Americans try JOLLIBEE (Filipino Fast Food) | San Diego, California

good afternoon ladies and gentlemen this is what i like to call an encore performance since so many of you guys have liked and commented on the last filipino food video from here in san diego last week i thought today i would show my appreciation with one more video and if you're in the filipino community there's only one place that you can go to truly express how much you care about this culture and that is jolly bees for those of you who don't know jollibee's is the number one fast food restaurant across the philippines it is the mcdonald's of the philippines and they have some very unique dishes now next week i'm gonna do some russian food and then joshua tree and mexico after that so i'm excited to show you all of these different places but today it's jolly bees so we're going back to national city i'm gonna invite some friends who have never tried jolly bees daniel have you tried jolly bees no never so this is americans and a mexican trying jolly bees for the first time let's go [Music] look at the lineup at jollibees [Music] one family bundle with the six gun burger big burger and amazing little house burger okay so it's about four of them yeah let's do one of each of those okay one spicy chicken one regular and one deluxe 50 106.50 cool baby thanks girls have a good day thank you we got it [Music] we got a few things for you guys to try here we go hey daniel's here how are you doing you guys here's a little teaser of what's coming this week oh yeah ladies and gentlemen doesn't get better than the bee ladies and gentlemen we are here again today actually right outside of porky's we came into this little plaza in the shade to try a full-on list of menu items from jollibee's i have a few american friends here and have you guys had jolly beasts just to confirm i've never had it sarah this is brad's wife sarah she's a new one from last week these two you remember from last week this is greg this is brad they are filipino food virgins well nine more i took your virginity last week right you did i'm still recovering yeah so this is a different style this is the number one fast food in the philippines to give you a little back story this guy in 1975 his name was tony and there's this place called quezon city that's right outside of manila and he set up an ice cream parlor and along with the ice cream he also did hot food items now the hot food items became more popular than the ice cream so he said forget this i'm gonna open up a fast food chain called jolly bees and thus a worldwide sensation was born and today we're gonna pay homage to the filipino people because there's so many comments saying you have to try jolly bees and i've tried it one time in the philippines that's it so there's a few different menu items here that i haven't had and also just to go through the list that people are asking at home they did not have any halo hollow because it's only in summer time they said these are actually peach mango pies they're out of ube pies and my favorite thing on the menu is adobo rice which we had adobo in the last video and they were out of that and out of garlic rice but otherwise we have the highlights so let's dive in and we're going to start out with the chicken ladies and gentlemen close your eyes take your picture let's get it all right charlie beats fried chicken cheers cheers oh crap i like it solid fried chicken good fried chicken out of the best fried chicken you've ever had give me a point system give us like a seven and a half that's pretty solid yeah nice crunch to it i agree good crunch good meat on the inside great flavoring salty deliciousness the breading's really good yeah it's not like super fatty like you would expect like yeah honestly or something it's good chicken is juicy the outside is crispy and one very important aspect of the fried chicken experience from jolly bees because you have to utilize the gravy this my friends is the jolly bees gravy you give it a little dip in there oh yeah that's good it completely changes it does it taste like thanksgiving it reminds me of tater wednesday in elementary school where you got the country fried steak and the gravy yeah yeah you know what i'm talking about i mean we never had that but tater wednesday but i can understand where you're coming from so it reminds you of childhood gravy from school yes that's good news yeah little little flavors of nostalgia that's yeah love it that's great news that's all you really want and a fast food joint is just flavors of nostalgia you ready get you an extra yeah portion for the lady spaghetti surprise for myself give this a whirl you guys let's give it a shot you gotta get a little hot dog in there a little bit of that give it a spin here we go it's kind of like a spaghetti mcgriddle a mcgriddles spaghetti mcgriddle you taste hints of maple syrup in there a little bit honestly it tastes like something buddy the elf would create you know how he dumps all the different stuff on it it is such such a sweetness i like it it tastes like something you'd have as a kid straight out of the chef boyardee can i yeah and but with an extra kick of sweetness i think it's better than chef boyardee yeah it doesn't have that like canned flavor or anything like that okay i just think the density of the spaghetti is pretty well cooked it's definitely soft so yeah it's good it's sweet it's not very meaty it's um you'd like it to be a little more meaty yeah it's like something a kid would make with their mom maybe okay i like that craig what do you think it's it's all right it's not my like favorite i'm used to uh i grew up with an italian family so i'm used to like um they made their own pasta and everything but this is it's not bad like i i'll eat it it's you know it's sweet um just different than what i'm used to yeah but it's not bad i mean the more i eat it the better it is i feel like i got growing on you yeah yeah i'll be honestly i'm the same way yeah i like it it's not bad it's like at first i was like but it's actually really not bad [Music] it's good tastes like my grandma's does it yeah a little bit was your grandma a good cook not the best i mean she was she was good on the spaghetti it's growing on me too all right this one is palabo so this actually has a shrimp sauce it's got the hard-boiled eggs it has the shrimp it has ground pork and it actually has little chicharron bits on top along with these rice or glass noodles it is a style of panset which we tried a lot in the last video i'm gonna get a little piece there get some of this nice crispy chicharron with a hard-boiled egg and i'm gonna get one of these shrimps grab that mix them all together cheat your own shrimp it's the farm it's the sea it's the head house we got everything in one stop the crunchy bits listen cheat your own pig's skin i say it's on blue in the face it's the greatest thing ever invented and the little crunchy chicharon bites ties it all together it's good it's pretty mild all around i feel like the shrimp is the most flavorful thing in here let's get it all it's got the harbor lake you got the shrimp chicharron that's gonna be a you're gonna really like that there we go i'm excited for you for this one got it all here we go you started off suspicious and then it hits your lips passes through your jugular and goes into your stomach and then you're thinking do i like this you know what that's way better than i thought it would be honestly the shrimp is probably the strongest flavor he's the alpha yeah shrimp strongest flavor the chicharron set nice little crunch to it i mean i like glass noodles so it's good it's better than i thought it would be and actually i like it it's called what it is it was a weird looking dish we weren't really excited about it let's call it what it is right that's fair it's fair to say there's a lot going on there but i would also say this is ten times better than it looks would you agree i would agree sir yes all right and let's cleanse our palettes real quick this is the pineapple juice or i think pineapple drink i don't know if they're allowed to call it actual juice i say drink drink it's actually like refreshing honestly very refreshing you know especially it's a warm day i think i got some vodka in the car this was a little vodka would be right just a little yeah oh you know what it tastes like when you were a kid did you ever take the you know the canned pineapple and drink the juice of the drink the juice yeah this is that's this is that all right now we're going to get into the sandwich portion of this taste test and we have every sandwich on the menu there is three styles of fried chicken sandwiches and there are four styles of burgers so let's start out with the traditional yum burger and tell me what you guys think it's basically just a regular burger with a little bit of a white sauce and you guys tell me what this white sauce is i love it i like it yeah it looked a little plain but the sauce is good i don't know what that is but it's good now it's good with the gravy [Music] gravy's a game changer the traditional young burger is very basic it's just the patty and then a special sauce and the sauce is almost man-easy garlicky with a little bit of onion it seems like yes yeah but the best thing you can do here is dip it in the gravy the gravy is a good side for everything and then the flavor profile [Music] i think this is the amazing aloha burger what's it got in it good it's got pineapple which is like you know everything with pineapple is good hawaiian pizza pastor tacos this hamburger it's good grab one portion oh my god i might come back just for this it's my favorite so far oh okay that's good chicken a buttered brioche bun and mayo maybe i mean i just taste the breading on the chicken that's what's up yeah that's what's up this is the spicy looks good yeah that i'm excited to eat this one honestly here we go i'm really excited cheers cheers oh yeah does that taste right that is a raw sharp jalapeno in there spicy chipotle i'd say chipotle yeah yep but you guys are right the chicken fried chicken fantastic i would literally come back for this chicken sandwich any of the chicken sandwiches probably a little spicy sandwich this is so good this is exactly what i would order is that number one on your list so far yes if i came through the drive-through i get that and then this one the third one is the same as that but deluxe so it's just lettuce and tomato and additional sauce on there next up is the burger steak so this has a mushroom gravy on top and steamed rice i mean this would be even better with the garlic rice or the double rice but as i mentioned they're out of that let's give it a try um it's a no for me it reminds me of like um like i boiled rice and like just chicken if my dog has an upset stomach okay so very basic team that's not steak it's a burger right you know what it tastes like to me it's not a steak but it's a you guys have ever had salisbury steak yes so it's like okay that it's like a salisbury steak with a mushroom sauce i no it's like it's a burger it's a burger pack as far as the comparison goes a local mocha would be the closest comparison right the hawaiian dish that's gravy burgers and it's delicious yeah so that's not the top of our list that's fine we don't they're not all going to be winners for everybody right and we're going to do chicken tenders now this is a pineapple barbecue sauce i do like the barbecue sauce you like the barbecue it's different okay the pineapple in there is like something very different from one they do good chicken good chicken the fry on the outside of those tenders is almost like a japanese tempura very lightly fried yeah all right the last thing before dessert jollibee fries take your pick take your pick your poison oh they're still hot piping hot still warm you're gonna need more audio to hear that crunch not a lot the fries are um it needs one thing gravy yeah let's try the gravy gravy adds to everything that's good gravy i mean the gravy is i actually like the gravy on there the fry is just a vessel for grain i was just gonna say yeah with the gravy it's great for the gravy if you like mcdonald's fries i mean you're gonna like them that's and i honestly i've never been a fry guy so i can't give this much credit i'm gonna do one mashed potato try i love them they're not bad not bad at all they're a little bit clumpy like quite clumpy i don't like like super smooth you can taste the actual pieces of potato in there it's not like you think these are real potatoes i think i hope so i think they're potatoes here we go ladies and gentlemen this is the final the ultimate wait did you already cut one yeah one this is broken already all right now i wish these were ube pies but again they only come out in the summer time let's these look great this is mango peach pies for dessert for the winter see i hear that crunch this is a positive good thing it's like real fruit really mm-hmm oh yeah okay yep yep that sounds good crispy this is awesome it's really good it tastes like a toaster strudel you guys ever heard those remember the toaster strolls you put the the frosting on this is bomb and the mango flavor this is better than any mcdonald's one i've ever had easily by far puts mcdonald's to shame yeah by far that that's a really pleasant dessert that's a great finish it's hot very hot yeah really good bye yep thumbs up [Laughter] approved all right greg after all this what do you think favorites favorites easily the chicken sandwiches um i would come back just for the chicken sandwiches alone and the mango peach pies those were great um pancetta was really good um and the fried chicken the chicken overall that's that gets my top choice i think it's great i think if i was going to bring a whole bunch of kids here and i had to feed a whole bunch of people this would be perfect i would definitely order the spaghetti the pan sets the chicken's good i really like chicken sandwiches like greg said the only thing i wouldn't order would be the steak and gravy and rice why you like the gravy by itself i like the gravy by itself but it's different than that the mushroom gravy okay i would come here for that chicken sandwich for sure okay maybe get some fries to dip in the gravy and finish it off with the mango peach pie aloha burger i liked it um deluxe burger i liked it mango peach i loved it and the pineapple water all right that was quite the meal i'm with you guys jollibee's for me the fried chicken is the best the crust the flavor the juiciness of the chicken itself in all forms in tender form in in bone form and in sandwich form the spicy chicken sandwich was delicious with that raw jalapeno excellent there's a little special place in my heart for the spaghetti i mean spaghetti and hot dogs that's just a childhood dream and to add the sweetness to it there's just something fun about that and that just reminds me of the philippines so much and panset was surprisingly delicious fries i'm not a big fry guy but if you dip them in that gravy that jolly beast has everything in the gravy is delicious i think we all agree that the uh burger steak was not the the hero of this video and the peach mango pie was the perfect finish that is favorite fast food spaghetti i'm trying to think of another fast-growing spaghetti part of it you know this is the best fast food spaghetti i've ever had i'm gonna say this is my number one fast food spaghetti there's not my only one but we'll cut that part we'll cut that out number one spaghetti
