[Music] so [Music] so yes yes on this palm sunday as we seek guidance from the word of god and study the scriptures to show ourselves approved let us not forget that we are no different than the children of god in the wilderness or moses leading them through the wilderness or job refusing to deny god even after he lost everything or judas who secretly betrayed jesus for 30 pieces of silver yes whether it's the old testament or the new people were facing difficult times just like they are facing difficult times right now huh plague and pestilence included yes some have have have lost jobs and the bills are piling up some homes are in foreclosure many of you are depressed yes and and some of our families are being torn apart because guess what it is difficult to be shut down and shut in trying to live together 24 7 all the while struggling while things are being revealed i say to you some of you have decided that it is time for a divorce yes and through a deadly virus and deadly violence some of us have had to bury our loved ones you feel like there's no hope many of us don't trust the government and you are resorting to seeking things that will bring you luck that's right i said it i said luck you are seeking that instead of seeking god's word let me tell you something you are wasting your time if you are trying to find your lucky star okay burning sage and and and rubbing on rabbits feet instead of trusting that god is in control and that he loves you you hear me he loves you so much that he gave his only begotten son jesus and that is through whom we have the victory jesus jesus jesus taught us in the scripture how to face difficult times when things get hard and we find no way out jesus said fast and pray turn to your neighbor say fast and pray all right turn to the other neighbor say fast and pray fast and pray yes sister county brother marshall come [Music] on yeah glory to god get used to it when you get used to it lord is mercy get used to not let spiritual warfare take us away from our god-given purpose and most of all let us do what the scriptures say in matthew 6 16. it reads moreover when you fast do not be like the hypocrites with a sad countenance for they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting and certainly i say to you they have their reward but you when you fast anoint your head and wash your face so that you do not appear to men to be fasting but to your father who is in the secret place and your father who sees in secret will reward you [Music] oh [Music] praise god [Applause] yes hey girl nice flowers uh okay well thanks pastor gave a great sermon today huh i guess it was all right are you are you okay no not really i'm on my way to take these um to never mind i really gotta go but wait is there something i can do to help ah thanks but no thanks come on come on i can't just let you walk away like that i'm okay i gotta go please hey i said no thanks i don't need your help now if you don't mind leave me alone leave me [Music] we alone to our lovers we lie to our friends painting our pictures and playing pretend we keep our secrets all to ourselves stand at a distance so no one can tell and nobody knows us and nobody will we all keep pretending we're better but still [Music] we keep our secrets to cover our shame you see the darkness and you love us the same so [Music] [Music] forgive them father for they know not what they do there are all kinds of secrets good ones and bad ones as the caretaker potter's field i have many secrets they call these grounds potter's field because nothing can grow here too much clay in the soil makes it a great spot for potters to come get cheap building material but aside from that this ground is dead it's worthless which makes it a perfect spot for a cemetery and this one's for all the poor and god forsaken sinners and outcasts of the world and i dig their graves sometimes i listen to the stories of folks who come to visit and place flowers on the graves of their loved ones here's a secret when i was a young man i i used to love to make things out of clay i was real creative you know i mean these hands could mold and shape this ear clay into anything i put my mind to i can even take a stone like that grab my sculpting tools and turn into a statue of a great person or or an eagle in flight yeah when you're an artist like me you have a special way of looking at the world but nowadays all i see is red clay and a bunch of rocks because i'm just not motivated anymore i don't have a vision to create anymore my vision's fine i just i can't look past the outside and see the heart of a thing anymore but i still come to this field every day every morning and dig graves and i know the history of potter's sphere like the back of my hand see potter's field ain't the only name for this path and this patch of earth most folks these days they call it alkadoma field of blood now some of the kids they think that's because of the reddish color of the soil all the clay but that ain't so it's because his fear was was sparked with blood the blood of a nazarene prophet named jesus he said he was sent from god maybe that's true i don't know but if he was we didn't have eyes to see it the world looked at him and still saw the carpenter and since that day his own friend's soul about a handful of coins and this potter's field well that's the day i decided to stop being a sculptor because i can't see the beauty in the world like that a world of killer man for being good if that's the fate of a man who did everything right i can't imagine what must be waiting for a man like me a fella nobody admits it seemed for a while like maybe this jesus was sent to help people like us like maybe he could see past the rough clay even us in it to shape us into into something beautiful i guess we'll never know all i know is the day we buried jesus this whole world felt like a graveyard [Music] we run from our troubles we run from our pain gather the dirt up [Music] and carry our secrets with us to the grave and nobody knows us and nobody will we all keep pretending we're better but still we keep our secrets [Music] to cover our shame you see the darkness and you love us the same [Music] son i did go to your church today the reason i didn't go there with you is cause i felt ashamed of my sins you know getting high and and drinking i didn't want to embarrass you anyways i came here to say i'm sorry i'm sorry i wasn't the best mother and i took my frustrations out on you all day oh dave i'm so sorry i'm so sorry that's so sorry i'm so sorry dave daddy why'd you have to go so soon we were planning a surprise birthday party for you i wanted us to hit the dance floor like we always do [Music] [Music] oh daddy oh poppy mama mama i'm so thankful you taught our family god's word i mean i can still remember you quoting john 14 2. in my father's house there are many mansions if that were not so i'd have told you so yeah mama i know you're in your mansion now my only regret is that i couldn't buy you one there's no one like you mama love you hey sis i tried to see you in the hospital but they wouldn't let me in i even tried to sneak in but they caught me and they put me out this pandemic has us all crazy i want to believe that you're in heaven so give dad a big hug and kiss for me love you sis grandma you know i didn't mean what i said i'm sorry i lost my temper but i never lost my love for you and i never will never ever i'm so sorry so so sorry oh i will go to church and give my life to christ so i can see you again well like you used to say peace out love you grandma girl well i cancelled our wedding plans today i i cancelled everything but my broken heart that i have for you i don't know what i'm gonna do without you i guess i'll see you on the other side [Music] so many different stories i guess i'll end up planted here someday too today you will be with me in paradise yes and on this good friday when we commemorate jesus being crucified uh we got to stay in the word yo [Applause] because sometimes we take things out of context when it comes to the word of god we get confused because we didn't get the full story so so so so we read a small portion of scripture and we say to ourselves i'm good i'm satisfied we even uh uh quote scripture without paying attention to the therefores and therefore we don't know what the therefores are there for hello somebody [Music] then we run around misquoting scripture misrepresenting the almighty with misnomers misinterpretations creating misunderstanding like like like like some of you are confusing mary the mother of jesus with mary the mother james mary magdalene come on now help us jesus [Applause] [Music] they arrested jesus they wanted to crucify him and they started looking for his disciples and my son james he was one of them he had to hide or they would have killed him too james walked with jesus he believed that jesus was the messiah and jesus spoke of yahweh as his father and he said that our enemy is anyone who follows the father of lies and a brother is anyone who follows jesus he spoke of a committed love beyond brotherly bonds james said that jesus didn't come to deliver us from rome but from satan [Music] while there were so many who wanted to see jesus dead some said it was ridiculous to crucify a man for preaching love and peace preaching love and peace and my life was without meaning before i met him i i was looked down upon and i loved him not only because he had driven seven demons out for me but because his gentle face his gentle face his gentle face and the look of love in his eyes was my very reason to exist my reason to follow him i i was in awe of him but as he talked more and more about this approaching suffering i dear god how could i understand that it was gonna be like this how could they do that to an innocent man i loved him i loved my son looking up at the cross and seeing his face filled with love the love who gave sight to the blind heal the sick fed the hungry and now tormented humiliated crucified on a cross like a criminal bleeding in agony nails in his hands and feet there was a crown of thorns on his head and even in his torment he still wanted to take care of me jesus looked at john and me and said woman behold thy son son behold thy mother why couldn't they see his love and compassion why that afternoon the entire earth was covered in darkness for three hours from 12 o'clock noon to 3 o'clock and then jesus cried out in a loud voice and said eloi eloi llama sabachthani my god my god why hast thou forsaken me and then some of the bystanders misunderstood and they thought that he was calling for elijah and jesus said i first the soldiers mocked my son offering him a drink of sour wine filled a sponge on a stick and held it up for him to drink leave him alone let's see if elijah will come and save him if he really is the king of the jews let him save himself and then jesus said it is finished no my lord into thy hands i commend my spirit and with those words he breathed his last he breathed his last suddenly the sky it screamed and its very elements seemed to shatter and in the ground and it heaved with pain and anticipation and then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom earth quaked and the rocks were split and the tombs broke open and i saw the bodies of godly men and women who had died that had been risen from the dead the soldiers at the crucifixion and their sergeant were terribly frightened by the earthquake and all that had happened they exclaimed surely this was god's son the disciple joseph went to pontius pilate and asked for jesus's body pilate issued an order to release him joseph took the body of jesus and wrapped him in a clean linen cloth and placed him in a tomb he rolled a great stone across the entrance and we stood nearby watching [Music] i'm nowhere close to a perfect man and it takes a supernatural love to even understand that beyond the walls behind the mask and confident smile was a broken man trying to grow up and making life worthwhile and i know there were times that you probably shouldn't but i thank you for always loving me and i know anyone else they probably wouldn't but i thank you for always loving me now i know there were days [Music] too big too small can i exchange and trying [Music] oh i just thank you for always loving me and i know i get bad but you wait patiently i just thank you for always loving me i thank you for always loving me father i want to thank you for always loving thank you for loving me thank you for loving me [Music] and i know i don't have everything that it takes to keep loving me and it probably [Music] keep loving me thank you [Music] [Music] [Applause] loving me thank you for always loving me [Music] the bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of god that there is none that are righteous no not one except jesus of course walked like us talked like us wept like us even got angry like us but he did not sing he loves us so much he loves us so much the lamb of god without spot or blemish who takes away the sin of the world we serve a living god and he loves us he is in control we don't have to go out there uh wishing on a lucky star huh knocking on wood burning some sage he trusts in a living god an almighty god the lamb who takes away the sin of the world yeah i hear some of you so some some of you christians say that that i wish on a lucky star or i'm hearing from the universe guess what the universe ain't die for you huh the universe can't do nothing for you jesus died for you and guess what we are blessed people we're not lucky we are blessed we are blessed because our heavenly father loves us hear me our father loves us we are not lucky we are loved [Applause] we are not lucky we are loved [Applause] amen amen turn to your neighbor and say i am not lucky i am loved turn to your neighbor and say you are not lucky you are loved turn to your neighbor and say we are not lucky we are loved hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah amen amen maybe i succeeded a little i jumped up from the floor to the middle you think i want the credit i don't cause the glory it ain't for me now i know who shits on the throne who makes the stage and writes the songs and i know i couldn't do this on my own and as much as i complain i see more sunshine my lucky stars [Music] i'm not when i love you [Music] today i'm in a happy place and i know it didn't happen by mistake i love how he writes my life and i love how it sees my heart so i fall to my knees and i say that i'm grateful for everyone inside so we don't think i'm the stars cause that's not where our blessings but truth is [Music] [Music] from the very beginning in this life that we're living was part of this plan all along so we don't thank our lucky stars cause that's not where our blessings are no they come from the father's heart not the sky not chance but truth is [Music] okay [Music] thank you [Music] see i don't think my lucky stars cause that's not where my blessings are see they come from the father's heart not the sky not chance but truth is when i'm looking [Music] with so early on that sunday morning the women who had gone home to prepare spices and ointments to embalm jesus's body came upon the tomb where he was buried but the stone that lay in front of the tomb had been laid to the side so they went in i said they went in but the tomb was empty jesus body was gone they were puzzled they were puzzled and just then they came upon two men dressed in white shining garments angels and in fear they bow their heads to the ground and one of the angels said why do you look for the living among the dead so i say that to you church why do you you and you look for the living amongst the dead oh no no i'll say it again why do you look for the living amongst the dead oh yes jesus died on the cross for our sin but he rose in all glory oh we serve a living god today we serve a living god today why do you look for the living among the dead
