D you cannot stack on people do you understand d d I don't understand even what happened to me phase two is right around the corner an agrand recently asked on Twitter if blizzard should delay the release of the next leveling raid so that people can hit 40 without feeling rushed to hit that first lockout the replies were a war zone and agrand himself stepped in a few times to rein in expectations about just how serious this raid is going to be but unless the analytics are and I wind up changing it the title of this video is was BFD too hard my short answer is no asterisk and I think neron should hit about the same difficulty but I feel bad for the devs because the sod Community is A House Divided and the raids or so far singular raid has been the main conduit for this drama that's because my long answer to the title is holy this community has spaghetti spilling out of its pockets and couldn't socialize with a deaf dog so let's work our way through that and Instead The Divide in the sod Community is between two extreme parties of players on the one hand you have the season of dads people with apparently six full-time jobs and 150 casual kids and if you play more than them you're a sweat on the other hand you have the supposedly disgusting basement dwelling cretons who play day in and out and contribute nothing to society but are toxic gatekeeping elitists intent on ringing the last drops of fun from their fractured childhoods yeah obviously as with most things the general population is somewhere in between but it's hard to deny the feeling of friction on Twitter on Reddit in game these two groups Clash on everything from the pace of phase releases to the color of the sky surprisingly I haven't seen many people explicitly say BFD is too hard or too easy but I suspect there's another reason for that relative silence back in mid December when we were only a few weeks in blizzard released some official stats at that time only about 2% of characters had cleared the raid obviously I expect this number has gone up maybe even dramatically but anecdotally I still know a lot of people who haven't stepped foot inside I've been 77 since I hit 25 and have okay parses throughout so while I'm not the best dragon slayer to ever touch World of Warcraft I'm not really part of the Casual demographic either instead like any good content creator I have outsourced my labor to an unsuspecting redditor who has no idea I exist user in tune hates me on the classic wow sub had a great thread asking people who hadn't cleared BFD why they hadn't and there were some great responses here but to save the illiterate Warrior Ms undue stress I'll summarize with one word anxiety I kind of get this because it's pretty much what I expected if you first found my channel through Final Fantasy you know that I spent a lot of time and energy trying to get fence sitters into high-end content in that game the story there was the exact same people who had been traumatized by horrible social experiences honestly usually in WoW had lasting anxiety about trying any content more difficult than Dungeons inad this is not helped by the flood of groups making seemingly demanding requests in trade or lfg you must be 77 have B have consumes have logs whatever the truth is you don't really need any of these things though of course they help instead there is something far more destructive Toad's long-term Health than having an undergear DPS in your raid and that's the perception that it's harder than it is no game has ever flourished without a casual scene some hard ass games like Melee limp along with an old guard that has never showered let alone left the house long enough to find another game but most games die when the new blood stops pumping games like wild star died on this crucifix Wild Star advertised itself as a hardcore MMO and surprise surprise it was not the game the silent majority of 9 to 5 players wanted at a minimum even serious games need some sort of casual scene to create a pipeline for Replacements as old players burn out or quit if your community is so Cutthroat and unwelcoming that new players never get through the door you've put a biological timer on the entire scene and it will wither and die I'm not saying we as a community need to fall on our swords and Reserve slots in our Guild raids to help fresh 25s or anything but I do think think a more visible and welcoming public pug scene would go a long way BFD was the perfect difficulty for a leveling raid it's easy it's fast it's fun but it does have a few hiccups and snags that can catch the inattentive and it's just barely hard enough to create this community toxicity it is possible to brick a raid ID on Kellis and end 57 for the week and the fear of this is I think what drives these sorts of recruitment messages but to be totally honest I think that fear itself is as part of the problem newer or at least more casual players should not be kept 07 because of a fear of 57 at a minimum Noob friendly pugs or pugs comprised entirely of inexperienced players should be more common than they are I'm well aware there are ID terrorists who join pugs in full graze parse full graay and altogether have no idea what they're doing but these Giga Chads are not the people I'm talking about rather there are many players who fear being these terrorists but who would actually put up much better performances if given the opportunity by themselves and others I was personally a few weeks late to the saw hype train and missed the first three or so lockouts seeing the flood of trade messages that were already gatekeeping I made my own scuffed pug of all fresh 25s and we had someone DC on Gast we then proceeded to Kus as nine undergeared totally blind fresh 25s and we bricked it but you know what it was a fun introduction to the content and next reset I went 77 and it's been smooth sailing since I can promise you there are enough anxious and inexperienced players who could be good out there to make enough raid teams for everyone the challenge is getting such players together one idea is to make a new lfg channel something like /join new lfg which would be intended as a noob friendly group finder failing that whether you're an experienced raid leader or a new player looking to get in there you could take initiative and just start messaging random players looking for group asking if they want to link up BFD is not too hard but the community hurdles sure are if we as a community have any interest in sod flourishing there has to be a healthy pug scene without clear and welcoming ways for New Blood to join the 2019 classic vets sod will probably wither to a fraction of what it could be of course guilds always have a place in this ecosystem too but if someone is too socially anxious to join a pug solo joining a guild may seem like a step they're not yet ready for anyways if you haven't finished eating lunch yet go check out this video I made on cool hunter tricks and sod otherwise give me your sub and off peace out [Music] gamers
