Really gives perspective on how big space really is. (even just "local" space)
Love videos like this. Really puts it in perspective when you see the ships at warp on a chart like that
Cool, really shows just how big space is. It always bothered me in First Contact how they were patrolling the Neutral Zone, and Picard then sets a course for "Earth, maximum warp." Even at 9.975 it's still going to take a heck of a long time, right?
I believe the Enterprise D went through significant Warp drive upgrades over the years, and I thought it reached a maximum velocity of 9.975 at the end of the series.
Very interesting video.
Hearing Voyager referred to as the Voyager is always weird sounding to me.
In "The 37's", when Amelia Earhart asked Tom how fast Voyager could go, he responded "Warp 9.9... in your terms that's about... 4 billion miles a second".
So.... 4,000,000,000 mps / 186282 speed of light mps = 21472.82x speed of light.
Which means Voyager could have made it home in 4 years. Sounds like he's an order of magnitude off. Of course, he could have been just throwing out a number cause he really didn't know the conversion factor of kilometers to miles.
Technically correct or otherwise, I think this is a great video and should be required watching for anyone writing a Startrek episode (hint hint CBS).
Arent they snails compared to a star destroyer though?
Isnt it mostly moves along speed of plot? In a TNG episode, I think the E-D is trapped in another galaxy, the original unchanged E-D could maintain a speed that will cross delta-quad in 3 months... never mind Voyager.
