the following battle report is round 3 of our three-round championship series this is the final beware it obviously contains spoilers for our last two battles if you haven't watched them already I encourage you to do so before you get into this one deep in the heart of this imperial capital the war portal has grown stronger well its defenders have fallen one by one the estar DS have perished and even the adept disgusto DS have failed in their duty nothing now stands in the way both Zeno's and traitor rushed to claim this rent in the very fabric of reality and claim its power for themselves who will rise who will fall will chaos stand supreme will any ad rise this is 40 K in 30 minutes Championships welcome folks to the final round of play on tabletops first season you voted for your favorite armies and then they played off in a two round semi-final in round one rupert Gennari smashed stephen's white scars with a mastery of the movement phase and some very unfortunate dice rolls on Stephens part in round two Mike psychic shenanigans and complete board control proved too much for Sterling's elite armor as even the fabled hat wasn't enough to keep his custodies in the fight Rupert you're next now as we come to the final round Mike faces Rupert in an epic struggle to claim the portal of power and the title of the very first ever play on champ one of my chances of winning this fight I always like to go into a match expecting to win and you look for opportunities you don't get to afraid at the same time to eat our fighters left Rupert brings his combined al dari to the table to face Mike's affectionately named meat wedge list Rupert is taking full advantage of the new Phoenix arises rules for his Eldar excerpts and crap worlds and it's more special rules than we have time to list check out the description below if you want to see exactly what he's brought if rain and her shining spears along with a lost child ought arc skyrunner are in full effect with banshees dire Avengers fire dragons and dark reapers all supported by a crimson hunter eggs are all ready to wrest control of the portal of doom from Mike's arrayed forces of Z CH going into play Rupert down I've only ever played it once before you had a bunch of lucky dice that won in that game hope he doesn't get it this time plan going into playing Rupert is hopefully for getting to choose where he deploys if he gets to pick it's gonna be a really tough first turn Mike's custom mutilates and demon engines are gonna need to pull their weight here as Rupert's elder are fast and mobile and unlike stirling Rupert has the ability to deny more than one key psychic power making when to cast and what to cast a very important decision for him it might really come down to a psychic shooting war to see who wins this one we really went all out on this finale for you guys trying to produce as epic a battlefield as we possibly could big thanks to play ons own Tycho Amiga for his work on constructing that center portal of power as you can see it's erupted in the middle of this now abandoned city tactically it provides some cover but it does pose a real problem for Mike's army and their invulnerable saves does he try to outscore Rupert early or does he smash him home hard and score the later turns only time will tell for this last round we are playing narrow the search from chapter approved 2018 a unique mission grounding points for holding the dissenter objective by having the most model count within 18 inches at the end of a round now that circle gets smaller every turn by three inches forcing players to get closer and closer to each other to score points a real king of the hill type game line breaker first strike and slay the warlord are also in play the portal is spewing forth random warp energies so anything within 12 inches of the center of the board will not receive an invulnerable safe that's a real handicap to mic which relies on that for most of the units in his army he's gonna have to make some real smart tactical choices yeah so the mission creates a twelve-inch of war Tech's of no and vulnerable saves which is really scary for my attacks and for my shining Spears and my psychos but it's definitely more scary for Mike because his demons and his engines are really gonna rely on those and wonderful saves so I'm pretty happy about that on the other hand elder loved objectives that spread over the table or taking table quarters or getting into the corners of the board and in this mission I'm forced to just fight his game we're fighting his fight but on my terms how do you want to play this nexus what do you think would be reasonable you already at no invulnerable save I know do you want to give a cover save maybe just ignore it it's a big evil hill yeah it's a ruin it's a bit big and if it's a crater its way too big I don't want to make it critics that just means then it's my turn deploy we're playing the ICC rules where all of these gaps on the bottom level of ruins would actually be blocking line-of-sight but on the second level you can still see through so these windows are actually counted as line of sight mica is hiding a lot as much as he can anyway really doesn't have a lot of space to hide bigger models bigger bases and tougher to hide them on this table that's for sure that being said Mike can definitely get up quick and those monsters can take some punishment so this is gonna be an interesting tactical trade-off vortex beasts so cool do they do some work against the custodies yeah [Music] I'll spend one command point too deep strike those ten cultists do we need to start a timer for you Rupert I think I'll just stick with the easy choice which is just put everything in this big box and keep it really simple Rupert is definitely hiding as many units as he possibly can behind that single building you know he's got a lot of shooting but Mike does too and I think it's a smart play to hide as much as possible and then spring out with that better movement that he has over Mike do you have anything that shoots out of line of sight that have it used to but I don't think it does anymore who needs to shoot at a line of sight that's a good answer for someone that can't shoot out of sight [Music] [Applause] the really big constraint in this mission is you have to always be piling into the middle to score those points so ultimately he's gonna have to come to me and I want to try and pick off his big monsters one by one if they come at me on mass and I'll just be overwhelmed pretty worried about getting close to anything I'm gonna have one shot I think to actually touch some Eldar and I have to kill them all right so Rupert giving you first turn don't kill too much the way these missions work if you go second you control the scoring he's too fast he can move anywhere he wants if I can at least decide when things are scored and how they're scored then I might have some kind of advantage he has elected to let Rupert go first it's not a bad choice you know make him blink make him move first so Mike's decided to give me first turn which i think is a brilliant move on his part he risks a little bit about front damage but because his units are so beefy it's gonna be tough for me to kill anything serious I want you to take first turn because how you set up I cannot get first strike and you're not gonna seize on me no seasons for losers the beginning of round one Mike is starting with six command points and Rupert is starting with seven Rupert is elected to spend less in the pregame this time as opposed to his last game with Steve and leave more stuff on the table neither army has a lot of command points to spend so it's probably a good idea to keep as many in reserve as he possibly can and use them to maximum effect later Rupert really is the the master of the movement phase he's always super tactical and careful about his movement Mike really can put a hurt on a lot of his stuff so he's got to be cautious here with where he positions things okay so second phase I'm gonna cost guide so I need a six to seven so I get it that'll go in the scatter bikes yep I'll cost protect I'll put it on the scab ice goes off mm-hmm so then in the shooting phase they are gonna shoot that squad oh it's because I moved oh my and re-rolling yeah 12 room can I make 12 6 up saves I'm gonna go with maybe Rob Lee nuts you first 3 so 9 up a stead so one is alive can't see them I don't think anybody can see them except for the plane the five snipers are gonna shoot Ironmen okay hey on 5 + & 6 is the big deals and I reroll so - whoa so you get to re-roll every one hit one wound that's super good yeah we did two more lumens and three wounds - Armond I get three saves yes so I make all three saves but he takes to download mortal wounds I'm gonna put the doc repose into that second squad of cultists yep and they rewrote one again so that would be four four died yep which puts us down to two models yep savage I'm gonna spend a CP for those guys should do their little shimmy just the plain laughs I think and I'll just power way into the mutes away a position seven threes and I can reroll one of them so to move that power is a good yeah that was pretty savage I passed one fell one okay at the end of it because of some good movement he's managed to get most of his army into that 18 inch range to be able to score that all-important first point he's also keeping them fairly hidden I don't think he's gonna be able to do this in later turns but mike has got some work cut out for a mirror to try to dislodge enough units to prevent Rupert from getting this first point you've thirty four models within 18 I'm not kind of thing all right so there's no way I can even score because those guys yeah yeah oh start my turn he'll get a win back goes to seven the middle of vortex piece will advance that's 0-6 yeah that's Mike is pressing that tentatively forward here trying to make sure not to get too close but close enough it's seen losing his only defense that involves a puts him in a real tough situation I think he's got to make a choice hammer a Rupert fast or sit back and let Rupert come to him and win the late game at the end of my movement phase then this guy here is going to summon in some flavours so I got six I need eight so I get scooped I up three so start a psychic phase so Armand is going to temporal manipulation himself give himself D three wounds back he gets it yes sir he's back to max wounds heal then smite and he gets it is d3 also three on the plane on the plane demon prince will infernal gaze the jet and he does get it it's a five so I roll 3d six on four ups it does mortal wounds two to Morelos and then he'll smite it and he gets it three Oh none for I chose the the crimson hunter specifically because it was the closest thing I had to kill one thing and I could smite it of my shooting phase this middle is vortex beast will use his beam of unreality on the jet so it happens on a three plus cuz he's at seven wounds yep so I roll 3d six down for ups it does more looks that's really needed that's three down to one that's pretty close I will shoot the jet with the the autocannon the autocannon Helena trees two moons minus one and then I hope it explodes and so I fail one which of course I will CP real which I pass do I get the one back from you and I do so I actually go up a command points Y movement left jeez Louise so I'll spend one command points it puts me down to six and demon forage this guy he will shoot his Reaper autocannon at the jet and into the havoc launcher at the jet from the Reaper autocannon be rolling everything who didn't move right didn't it be rolling oh ho two moons minus one minus one but I'm plus one so here we go two three pluses you ready yeah haha you already rolled right yeah I did so got it the havoc launcher doesn't do anything no and now I need to not roll load yes yes all right that's what we needed right there it worked out pretty well it exploded which was fantastic because he had everything huddled in there just blew good thing out of the sky and then because I'd already used my CP rear oh I failed I will be explosion just keeps happening to me it's a pretty solid turn for Mike he's managed to take down a key unit that was definitely threat to him and that eggs arc that crimson on her eggs art and he's put pressure on Rupert's Eldar castle Eldar Castle when was the last time you heard that folks both players have scored first strike but Rupert has more models than 18 inches of the center so he scores that extra point putting us up a score of two to one so top of 10 - I could take the easy option which is snipe out the morphine and hang back but that could allow him to amass his units and sort of hit me in one wave in turn three so I figure you know what if you got to be a champion you gotta play like a champion let's just go get up now on the start of turn to the circle shrinks to 15 inches so only everything within 15 of that center point are going to score it's time for Rupert to come out let's see if he can weather this storm that Mike and zine sure bring it you kill a lot of stuff in in a short number of times here [Music] Rupert's looking to make some moves forward here but his advanced roles are really not helping him Mike's got him pressured pretty well but if anyone can shoot their way out of something it's the Eldar especially with a solid general like Rupert at the helm looks like he's trying to set up some multiple layers of charges just two will be able to avoid Mike's guns and hug them close I do think this is a crazy play the you know so championship go do something fun right overly okay I'm on the psychic face now okay I'm gonna cause some doom on the big dude and I get a 10 so he is officially doomed dude then I'm gonna cross jinx which I get on a seven yep so I'm gonna guide the doctor if this yep then I'm gonna do word of the Phoenix with a brain on a six goes off with a plus one okay that heals D three wounds and I get one so I'm back up to five I just just might on a six and I get one wound on the wall of fame all right shooting phase the dark creepers do the tempest since they're famous yep and then I'll do the solid shots into the mute select safety bills one three wings tempest for I rolled a three rain of death roll attack it here you go ten come on this knife is gonna have five shots into every man again and you can't see oh yeah no you're right I failed to take the model I believe it I'll shoot the DP then get this one we're oh no try I'll do the shuriken into the vortex Beast oh so that's you - three - treat yeah okay fail below yeah bikes same thing for us that's both wash brush you just soaking up all the juice tryin to lots of juice still coming yeah that is true all right go one wound moloch bean or mutilate vortex beast the shuriken are gonna go into the bed effects piece a feeling this would probably kill two in bundles and three honest he or just so he's dead does he explode nope see I was hoping that I could pull a Mike buns and just explode all over our man's face that would be cool and only you get to do that it's true it's true Rupert's look at assets of charges up here and I'm not a hundred percent sure that he needs to get all of them in but he definitely needs to hide some units and close combat to get away from Mike's guns for a turn and try to score that objective but I'm gonna charge with the Banshees first you ready go for it and I roll a four sure fortunately they get the plus one so I'm just gonna I'm just gonna go with that it's there so if this guy explodes it would be the most funny thing since sliced bread it would be fantastic yeah the two attacks have sorbus activated because the vortex beast died no they just get it just gives them Plus Ones a hit and then they have to strike first so that's two mortal wounds and two imma saves at minus three they'll die I think he gets fives because Jenks wouldn't affect him okay then I pass them they take to model wins yeah okay and then the other warlord hitting on twos hit yeah he ruins once a process with flying colors excellent now can I interrupt okay so I'll spend the two CP a favor I'm gonna spend another CPM every roll hits and lose I think that's a really nice move and I'll attack the these guys I'll do the two CP phone - one's head as six attacks hitting on fives two minutes yeah oh yeah and he's got three Zack to the fists yeah one wound ap two three three six not quite it does three three damage so pick up the middle a you know every time I spend command points on that guy he never ever makes it up not gonna come through that's tough [Music] so that's three wounds at minus-4 so success that's one failed to as a four damage lead ice now you want to explode yeah don't do it Mike would have been so mean Rupert's got quite a few units within 15 of the center and let's see if he can hold on to that as we go to Mike's turn you know Mike's taken interesting course here he's spread around this portal I'm sure you'd like to get around it the middle a lot faster it's a tough decision you know trying to keep your info or rush across and just get through as quick as possible so let's see how this plays out gonna spend one command point on the D Lord he's gonna advance and charge [Music] so into my movement phase he'll summon in three flavors absolutely no I takes one more to win because I rolled a double hmm kind of bring in a score to ten call this yeah yeah that makes sense okay start of psychic phase I am going to warp time hit here Arman will z choose firestorm these guys yep it goes off sure this I get nine dice nothing else Mike misses last move it gets it to 300 veggies I don't want it to be the Banshees but you've positioned it so excellently the DP he's going to cast infernal gaze on your warlord doesn't go up and then he will smite it goes up for once one bad psychic doesn't have a ton in it that's unfortunate you know Rupert's really tied him up and push them into places that I don't think mike wants to be started my shooting phase he will cast beam of unreality on a 2 plus goes off for ups do mortal wounds to the closest unit one mortal wound I'm going to demon forge the venom crawler okay and it's gonna shoot it's two cannons add the dark reapers in the back yeah so 4-2 ready to see go for it I really don't want to get the X arcing one of the guys so that's not so bad the Defiler is gonna shoot everything at the whatever these guys are called Foshan expect an experience Oh so first one d-33 ouch second one g-33 pastes them okay and then he gets shoots four times with the three thrown cannon in the air yeah but that that was what you needed Mike that was bad news beds for me five goddamn skill kills the squad what's next is he is going to charge the dire Avengers I hope I don't fail this charge I don't know [Laughter] good week like me sure the van crawler will charge that guy yeah it's no sweat alright actually you know what Divac prince is gonna charge that guy as well and the Banshees nine holla holla so I'm gonna open up with the demon Prince attacking the main guy there five attacks on banshees in three on hit daddy there your own runs three hits winning on for justice for two wounds - two - damage takes so two damage yeah he ignores among the fives so he knows both somebody check Rupert four horseshoes because Yeti had smile was running him today Wow so I'm so best thing so then I punch you back so you just get to go now yeah so it takes two and one mortal wound I'll have to DP I'm gonna be pieces waiter to do it yeah heroes ones so hits four times he strength six which I think your toughness seven oh no I'm stuck in six I'm talking to six so I fail l1 I feel one path Balin past one great so two damage okay plus immortal so three damage okay so he's gonna attack your main dude punch you punch punch punch yeah vortex I'm gonna crawler hit on fours we doing on threes in that uh nothing okay so I'm gonna demon Forge the Lord there and you're out of CP now I'm not a CP dang I get five attacks with the hell stalker I missed twice winning on twos three wounds - 306 is here we go you got two of them is that seven sixes you've rolled so far that's the number of in the end right there I've only killed one of ten attacks so far two attacks the strength for know a PE they both hit wound on three is two wounds here we go I will come on rear all the - do I get it back I do not saves and on the five up no and he had cut one attack - - she got an injector hits wounds on it two wounds - four or I can't say that damage d3o just take one with those twelve attacks hitting on Tuesday owning on twos I killed two guys I'm actually completely shocked since one did I kill three models that assault pays to ban one day so yeah I heard the demon Prince of venom crawler and a lord discordant I killed three guys oh oh Indian smiled yeah Wow I think Rupert's got a little bit of a lead here and it's gonna be hard for Mike to take it back you know Rupert got real lucky on those rolls in that last turn Mike needs to get in quick he needs to get in and hit hard he needs to get around that corner he needs to get around that that Center portal and he needs to tie up Rupert as much as he possibly can and again the portal shrinks start of this round only units within 12 inches are gonna score so they got to get closer they got to get in Rupert's movement phase with everything you've tied up in combat here he doesn't have a ton to move but he's definitely gonna have to shift some stuff in to get get in and score [Music] [Music] okay man let's go into the psychic phase the first thing I'm gonna do gaze is in the ad with your brain gets a smite ray basic it's my rule 7 plus 1 so it's Nate beginning tonight no okay so do it on the DP oh okay it's just not closest to just whoever yep D : yep so no I have to roll a 2 plus and then and then a role of one I will CP that so hey do I get a CP I do I do I wrote a two so he only gets one takes one wound and I lose that CP which is really annoying smite goes up on a on a 5 because she gets +1 but it's not a potent role I'll deny it it's on a 5 you said this is why you save the denies I bought it with an 8 okay another smite with de spirits here Google F on an 8 yep I can't stop you and he does tunes to this guy his two powers to go dune on a we roll the one with his rooms nope all the hills you know cuz guide 6 also fails I just know I would have failed my - okay shooting phase if first thing I'll do is my 5 ranges into your demon Prince see if they can prove their where they did the first turn hello out of my hand which is awesome oh I'm gonna blast them with the other and then fusion gun here we go yeah yeah so you do do it again six up hope not no [Music] for wounds that's how many yes yeah that means this tensor that means this cat bites get to go into the prints so I got five wounds and I get one we're all so six weeks it's free of the demon Prince oh he feels one hahaha am i down to one whoo I can do a nine in charge all right you ready to see a nine I really hope not that's five to seven I need a three up here [Music] no he's only strength sakes okay so one I have to kill him it's worth the cpe on the floor up here we go No so two ins Oh Elmo he doesn't explode e that is he now so you got to punch me okay so four attacks with the whatever the claws are called hitting on fours four hits cheese here we go mooney on twos no just once just the ones full of the buttons for wounds - three three damage each oh so three damage each yeah they go down to two so be two four six because it is relic and I need a load of fives which I get needy like that yeah so it was one Wow all right Oh real luck from Rupert there he should have been hurt way more from Mike's fighting back let's see what Mike's gonna be able to do in his half of the turn Rupert's gotta be happy with how that turned when I mean it could have been so much worse it was right there on the edge [Music] Armon will zj's firestorm you have world word yeah he does with a nine right six is let's do something this time one one mortal wound ready five up yep he'll then smite he gets it with a seven whatever's closest probably the Banshees do take one mortal wound could warp time himself it goes off he'll advance the game it goes nine stay over there Clara started the shooting phase the flamers we're gonna flame the flag loss the Fire Dragons [Music] [Music] so we'll go into combat sure did you kill a unit yeah you cover the building van cheese so I punch you first strangely okay and just the four swings I we knew one time yeah I just have to survive this one around I'll use my last point to demon forge him to women's strength fate all right here we go for us plus one fair one so three damage rounds down to two and I guess pileups to damage my friend and he's got two more attacks they both hits we rolling oh dear I could have been there right there that's it right yeah man that's my turn whoo well that takes us to the end of three here Rupert has first strike the warlord kill and he scored turn one Mike has scored points for turn three and has first strike it's really anybody's game here but I think Rupert has the mobility this is gonna be a real telling tale turn here folks turn four and this is where it happens start a four and our portal is shrinking yet again only models with a nine are gonna score this super tight quarters and it's got a favor Rupert at this point as he has the better armor saves and I think he's gonna have more bodies that can withstand losing an involved [Music] [Music] yeah that's great so much going in for the kale here is it [Music] [Music] thank face up with doom that one seven goes off I'm going to jinx that goes off so he's jinxed guide perils is but you get a - I'll get it I'll use the rinse so goes off yeah I'll guide the repairs from the brain on a five so d3 on the beasts - okay and then I'll check out world in Phoenix goes off well I should have smite it that one look at that oh yeah that's what you wanted so I healed three wounds on my auto type so he's back up - he was on - and I was on five shooting face you know what I'm gonna hold tight on that I'm gonna do the dragons into the venom cola they both hit em hmm they both wound yep so you're at - in sixes six is none as dead okay time to explode big guy please don't know what do they do then crawlers explode on fives each mile within six inches yeah so d3 on them come on kill about those jerks no don't do it well they did their job okay the old tuck is gonna paste paste Ahriman ass four hits and that's one armor and one minus three so one armor save yes sir three up gala and a ministry be for apple yet passive fusion doesn't wind oh I need the re-roll put them out of CP alright same thing over here into your vortex beast when we roll one miss nothing and then style lines nothing and then fusion we roll in three up wounds no sales if for 5k so it's down to seven so for for on regular for up saves I felt you so he dies yeah please slow gonna sit gonna fire all the five world one that was also stressful he's gonna charge on your mind okay he makes them I close enough to every agency sexy what we hit a hit obviously it's crack renewed 103 wounds -1 yeah does a d3 105 up loves it so he goes right in the Dharmendra is charging your cultists they do okay charge your ass up okay so punching into element for punches you rules the ones you a toughness for so I'm reading you on Three's I really want to roll some sixes nope so I get two for us fill them both for damage he's dead swing looks like it's gonna go to just a cleanup now for Rupert and a four is gonna see him score another point and I think the boys are gonna call it there you know Mike doesn't have anything left yes yeah that is scored and you'll score next tourney as well congratulations to our first-ever champion Rupert Campbell condolences to our runner up Mike buns he gave a hell of a fight but in the end the mission definitely didn't help him combine that with a top-tier opponent like Rupert and it's an advantage that you cannot afford to give up great fight gentlemen and well played you both have earned yourself in the annals of play on history our play on tabletop champion there you go buddy thank you thank you yeah Annie wait don't go anywhere we've got this for me as well with the help from our press and flip side of gaming we were able to be a Champions package and I will find ways to inspire people play and there's no better way to inspire people to play then a brand new army he's gonna get it brand-new space ring codex a guest space rage box for your brand [Music] it so ends our first season of play on tabletops 40k and 30 minutes we started this series barely six months ago wanting to produce some of the best foul reports out there and inspire people to play this hobby that we love I feel we've been able to create something truly unique here
