most of us start out playing the same blues shuffle pattern you know the one or if you're feeling adventurous it's modified like this and that's cool but it's really easy to get stuck there in this lesson I'll show you a killer 12-bar blues rhythm to help get you out of that rut now this still is rooted in that shuffle feel that one and two and three and four and but we're going to expand on it as you'll see still we need to lay out that foundation and we're gonna use our thumb to accomplish this and you'll notice throughout this lesson we're gonna use our thumb to do almost everything here so we'll play along with the one and two and three and four and then we'll add a chord move at the top of the beat now did you notice that I stepped into that chord move with the beep under this e major on the fifth string so what I'm doing for that quarter move is just laying down and catching these tones from an a chord and a major chord then I'm hammering back into my major especially calling out this minor third to major third all right all thumb here then back to the base but that leaves that second half of the measure of the rhythm figure kind of bare so let's spice it up with a little bass run to round out the measure what I'm doing here is still holding down this emajor shape but for b4 I'm actually playing a triplet the open D then our E flat into e here all on the fourth string and I'm walking into that triplet in much the same way we walked into or stepped into that chord move with our B on the fifth string all right so that's really the guts of this groove and we can base an entire 12 bar progression around that you'll notice as I play through it that we'll just change a few things here and there to connect through the chord changes [Music] now in the spirit of spicing things up definitely make sure that you're changing these parts work to get this down but then use it as a platform to change the base run change the chord moves strum a little bit differently add a lick there's really a lot that you can do to make this your home and to give you some help along those lines I prepared a playlist for you full of some ways to spice up your 12 bar blues so go ahead click play over there and I'll see you in the next video until then practice smart and play on
