so hopefully we are up and running it is just about five o'clock in the morning here in kyoto japan we did a live stream last night and were graced with slightly better weather than we have now but the closer we got up to kiyomizu temple there the uh the worst the signal was getting so we are going to head towards kyoto city center and take a walk through the city this morning and just enjoy the sights of kyoto as we do a little bit of a morning walk so how is everybody this morning chime in say hello get to know each other give that like button a bit of love we are gonna walk from kiyomizu all the way down to kyoto station this morning and one of my favorite little streets in all of kyoto is actually just off to the side right here let's go take a peek it might be just a touch too dark to truly appreciate it but we're gonna take a look now i'm using a bit of a different setup than i usually do so a bit of a reminder if i miss any super chats or anything like that please let me know and i will jump in again a huge thank you to red panda for kicking them off we are going to head down this way and slowly walk down the hill and i'm gonna hope that we don't end up soaking wet from the rain and that was my backup alarm going off just in case there we go this entire street actually walking down from kiyomizu into the city is one of my favorites and it's just so aesthetically beautiful all the way down and every single time that i come to kyoto i make a point of walking down through here and uh or or even driving through here if i come by car because it's just such a beautiful space sometimes stop out here do a little photography on the road but it's such a gorgeous space and a huge thank you to slices of japan who over the past year has become one of the biggest encouragers and supporters of the tokyo lens explorer channel saying hey norm i hope you're doing all right super excited for the stream have a beverage on me honestly thank you so much for that if you guys could see how goofy i look right now you would laugh i've got an umbrella up here which i have kind of strapped to my chest through my backpack and i'm just kind of balancing it using like the side of my head and then because i don't want to miss anything i'm actually trying to keep an eye on the comments section using a separate phone device trying to achieve the balance between carrying the gimbal a separate phone and the and the umbrella is quite the goofy looking balancing act so as we get into the city i may miss a thing or two and if i do please just let me know that uh i've missed it and i'll pop back in so mac bro in there keeping the ball rolling with the super chat saying hi norm hi mac how you doing so today i actually have to get back to tokyo fairly early in the morning because from about 9 30 a.m i have a shoot with two tsugaru shamisen players kiki and we're doing some recording you see kiki about a year ago now kicked off a long awaited online tsugaru shamisen course and we get together once to twice a month to shoot and upload the content usually one day an entire day for shooting and an entire day just for uploading everything's done bilingually with english and japanese and we now run online shamisen lessons for anybody who wants to learn sugar shamisen and we've even set it up so that there are affordable shamisen at different levels that students can grab so they can do their practice and we're moving towards in-person events in both japan and overseas in the years to come and let's walk this way just because it's one of the most beautiful streets you can walk down and i want to give a huge thank you to cookie ninja for chiming in once again and saying good afternoon as well as ronald for keeping that super chat ball rolling as well as nate you guys are so kind thank you very very much so you may have noticed you may have even been privy to the live stream yesterday but we are now streaming mobily in full hd 1080p and it tends to be a little laggy at the beginning of the stream and then picks up but i think it's better than the 720p streams that we were doing before and in order to do this i've registered for the stream labs app but again the stream labs app makes it borderline impossible for me to actually see the chat so i've got to keep everything on a separate device and look at this little walkway here look how beautiful this is and eva chan thank you for the super testing for a nice beverage after you get out of the rain yes and rey diaz oh my god i don't even fit under here ah my umbrella got stuck saying love the channels i used to jet in shimane again wow i don't know if i'll be able to visit there but if you could do a stream yeah shimane would be an amazing place to do a stream i would love that thank you for the suggestion so so many things to carry and manage yeah i definitely should have ducked going through that archway i i hardcore got stuck there so and around here there is a beautiful pagoda that you would have seen let's see if we can't go take a nicer view of it a year ago i managed to finally get a photo of this pagoda that i liked enough to actually put up on my instagram there we go you know let's head up the street a bit and see if we can't take a better look up here and another incredibly generous super chat from david saying good morning mate rare that i get to catch these streams of late super stoked to catch one in kyoto my first super chat thank you so much just want to serve some gratitude for all you do cheers that is insanely kind of you thank you so much i really appreciate it now the last time we headed up the hill we ended up getting stuck with some lag so i'm gonna cross my fingers and we are okay this time but i want to show you guys one of the best viewpoints for this pagoda up here and andrew in here saying hey you spotted the tamagotchis at village vanguard are you interested have you seen ads for the new japan model called smart no i haven't there's a new japan model i'm actually kind of interested in that i'll have to check it out thank you and an insanely generous and kind super chat from jacob deal thank you so much for that jacob i really appreciate it i don't even know what to say honestly thank you so this space right up here on the right hand side where you see these two white lanterns and this parking lot right here to the right is actually one of the best vantage points to get a photo of that pagoda and the street so let's turn around and take a peek there we go honestly so glad that we can be doing this in 1080p look at that view it is rainy and i'm probably far too hot right now but huh super glad that we can be here i'm gonna see if there's a way i can't manage two devices in one hand and carry the ah there we go fingers crossed that this works out there we go so we're gonna head down here yeah now this here is as i said one of the most beautiful views that you can get in kyoto i think i used it for my main documentary thumbnail as well as one of my favorite instagram photos ever drove out here in the middle of the night and jzm saying here's a bit of a beverage of your choice my dude thanks for giving this the ability to have these views when we can't get over there honestly thanks for being a part of it that's and we've talked about it a thousand times but i feel so much gratitude to be able to share these with you guys so it is 100 my pleasure to be able to share all of these views with you look at that look at even just here what beautiful space i am try there we go ah maybe turn this this way a bit there we are these live streams tend to be a lot easier when it's not raining because then i don't have to worry about everything getting soaking wet i think there was is it scary walking alone no it's not i've never really felt scared in japan mind you i might have a broken sense of what's scary because i did an anime and japanese convention a japanese culture convention in raleigh north carolina a few years back and walked through the city at 2 30 in the morning with all my camera gear like strapped to me and everything and it wasn't until i got about 30 minutes into the walk that i realized i may have made a poor choice so japan may have spoiled me for that sense of safety and just a huge thank you to annette who as well is always in there supporting there we go and another beautiful little street down here where we'll do our absolute best to not get hit by a car early in the morning for some reason every time i come to kyoto it tends to be garbage day so any kyoto exploration video coming to the main channel love the channels keep up the good work we might be able to do like a kyoto exploration video early on next year but if you are dying for some more kyoto content there is a fairly long exploration video that served as the behind the scenes for a documentary that i made last year and that is up on the main channel i hit a very large number of the major spots throughout kyoto within that video so also i'm just now realizing that both the gimbal and the phone are soaking wet so who knows there's a good chance this whole thing could just fall apart but [Music] super lovely i'm telling you every single time that i do an early morning walk through kyoto i find myself arriving on garbage day and being graced by beautiful garbage trucks so i am i'm just staring at the gimbal right now going this thing is literally dripping with water the umbrella it does nothing and i think there is a chance that the gimbal could just die on us today so and joyful cheese says always a pleasure to watch your adventures from the comfort of my room here in ireland get yourself a nice hot cup of joe to keep you going well thank you very much for that i really appreciate it and samuel also keeping that super chat ball rolling by saying when are you going to enable channel memberships you know i've thought about it and i don't think i'm going to be enabling channel memberships anytime soon i do have a community over on patreon where we do live streams several times a month we have a secret instagram account and a discord that we hang out on where we can all like hang out and chat so i like to keep the community kind of centered in one place wherever i can so if you're interested i'd love to have you hanging out over there we can get to know each other a bit better but i am trying not to drop everything all right and now we're out onto one of the main streets and jaywalking we are jaywalking but thank you so much for asking i uh i'm not opposed to the idea of channel memberships it's just youtube does take a fairly large chunk of everything i think like 30 to 40 percent um and patreon enables me to do things like the major documentaries that i always want to do those require me to go out places like when i did the documentary on the people living on the active volcano that had me going out and living on that active volcano for a week and that was entirely backed with uh with patreon so huge love and gratitude to the crew look at the water just running down there and you'll be pleased to know that my feet are of course soaking wet because you wouldn't expect anything less on a rainy kyoto morning i also am super used to doing these live streams really early and forgot that as we get into the winter months the sun comes up so much later and and those asking i'm currently streaming with an app called streamlabs and jlb saying thank you for always inspiring adventure now thank you thank you i really appreciate that i'm using an app called streamlabs to stream in 1080 to youtube so we're also on a new phone which picks things up much better than the old one let's head down one of the more narrow back alleys here there we go we're currently on an iphone 13 pro max so and i'm gonna try to take a peek at google maps as i do this in the hopes that maybe we can make our way towards kyoto station there we go and it looks like we're going in the right direction ish so we're just gonna keep doing that all right and try and get caught back up on chat there we go i gotta say as much as i love kyoto it was way more fun to stream without the rain seriously if i could find a mirror somewhere to show you guys how incredibly goofy i look right now you would most certainly laugh and yuri olsen in there for the super chat keeping the ball rolling thank you so much for that yuri much appreciated give me a second to there we go i'm trying to hold the phone and the gimbal all with one hand i mean the umbrella and the gimbal and it's working out to be a little more challenging than i had thought here we are i think we got it i think we got it how's this look how are we doing here is it smooth and okay enough i feel like maybe we're okay we'll turn down this way i'm gonna try to stick to little back streets wherever i can in this morning's adventure there we go [Applause] listen to the sound of that rain though yeah i saw those mirrors but they're not going to be able to show i'd be able to lie if i held the camera out i might be able to get a decent shot of how goofy i look but the [Applause] gimbal and phone would end up becoming even more soaked than they already are so there we go so where is everybody watching from this morning it is around 5 31 a.m here in kyoto japan how about where you are what time is it how's the weather there is it better than this right now i just want to be able to imagine better weather lots of germany toronto florida india wow all over the place [Applause] romania brazil and if you haven't already give that like button some love and because i know many watch without realizing that they haven't hit subscribe yet this is your invitation to hit that subscribe button and don't forget to turn on all the notifications because as i announced yesterday this is actually the kickoff to a full month of live streams all throughout japan give me a second dropped the there we go momentarily dropped the umbrella there all right this is the kickoff to a full month of traveling japan for the sole purpose of doing live streams here on tokyo lens explorer and i see somebody watching from hamilton is that hamilton ontario that is crazy really well [Applause] we are going to be traveling the country all month for at least the next three weeks leading up to christmas doing live streams in different cities all over japan so a lot of them will be impromptu live streams without announcements so hit that subscribe button and make sure that your notifications are turned on and honestly i just i love these little back streets oh like even just the houses in kyoto everything is so beautiful and mr mystery in here keeping the super chat ball rolling by saying thanks for the stream enjoying the views without getting wet i'm from canada and missing japan you know what i'm from canada and i live here and i'm still always missing japan so and thank you for that as well as michael cherry always keeping that super chat ball rolling huge thank you to you for that and bob g as well good morning bob saying there's a young fella called norm who's streaming in kyoto this morning oh wait we gotta are we do we have a limerick are we limericking look at that let's just take a moment to enjoy this [Applause] okay i love this i love this there's a young fella called norm who's streaming in kyoto this morning he's out in the rain which is kind of a pain he'd prefer it was clear and warm i'm down with that very well played very well played i think we are still on track and the soaking wet dripping gimbal has not failed on us yet this might be the last live stream for this particular gimbal i cannot see it getting this wet and surviving another stream so [Applause] how's that mouse there we go bit of a messy intersection here we're gonna turn left over this way and mia always sharing huge love saying oh zaimasu if there's anything left after youtube cut i'm tipping in for rain gear lol off to work honestly mia thank you so much for that always always with the kindness been a huge supporter of the tokyo lens and tokyo lens explorer channel for so long means the absolute world to me i love that over the years i've gotten to know so many people in the comments section and we've gotten to kind of hang out and get to know each other and it's just honestly thank you so much it's one of the reasons why if you didn't already know i tend to spend about the first hour of every video release on tokyo lens just hanging out and chatting with people in the comments for honestly a solid hour at least every single time and it is one of my favorite things and so it enables me to kind of get to know everybody and i love it so thank you so much for that another good reason to have notifications on for the tokyo lens channel as well because it means we can chat with each other on video releases and get to know each other listen to that rain though it is picking up and purple drank in here again hey how's it going saying i went to bed watching you and i just woke up to see you streaming again what are the odds have a good stream thanks so much we're a little wetter than we were in yesterday's stream and seriously look how narrow these streets are just wide enough that's a k car as well by the way so that's not even a full-size car as well as international disabilities a rights advocate is in here saying this is so awesome i'm enjoying it and what are these these lights are like flashing on and off i was like is this are we is this lightning am i gonna get am i am i basically just a lightning rod right now and richard hey richard one of the like earliest supporters of turkey lens ever one of the original i think the like first two ever tokyo lynn's patreon members before i even kicked it off that we've had many many good years together richard thank you so much for rubbing it in it is sunny there in california thank you so much for that but it does allow me to oh no i'm gonna get squished i'm gonna try and tuck ourselves in here there we go beautiful straight turn camera turn there we go and catherine saying i'm going in for surgery in a few weeks looking forward to watching all of your live streams while i'm laid up wow i hope it's not too serious i hope it's one of those surgeries that's for a positive thing above all else so and i don't know about you guys but i'm seeing this big old major road here and thinking how quickly can we get into some of the back streets but it looks like we got to take this one for a little while to get closer to the station with kyoto being i'm dropping this sorry i dropped the umbrella again i look so ridiculous right now it's there we go with the back streets of kyoto being as beautiful as they are i tend to want to avoid these you know what i'm gonna have to walk on these yellow blocks right here because the ground is so slippery right now that we almost went down that was it it was going to be timber and then normal's going to be gone so there we are going to keep going straight on this road for just a little while and we're gonna make our way to kyoto station but what i was saying is with the back streets of kyoto being as beautiful as they are i feel such a huge gap and when i say gap i don't mean like the juxtaposition that i usually love but i mean just an honest huge gap between the beauty of the back streets of kyoto and the standard approach to the bigger roads it's just it feels so different so there we are okay all right it's taking a peek at how much longer we need to spend on the major street so much noisier too with all the car traffic a small part of me wants to hop in a taxi and skip the major street just so we can get into the back streets again and so that i can be dry for a moment all right so we're gonna have a river coming up here that we're gonna cross and then after crossing the river we're gonna hop into some of the back street areas so i'm still trying to stick to walking on these yellow blocks so that i don't slip and destroy the stream you know about a year or so ago i did a live stream where we hopped on a bicycle and at the end of the stream and i was like oh i've never hopped on a bicycle like on the stream before let's uh hop on and see how it goes and like 30 seconds later youtube just killed the live stream and i felt so bad i was like oh that like i was cycling down the city streets of tokyo with the camera half mounted to the front of the bike and all of a sudden the youtube stream just cuts i was like oh my lord people are going to think that i got hit by a car and it was just that was it the stream was gone i think i managed to recover it afterwards i had like emailed youtube or something and they managed to get it all sorted out for me but that was not a fun experience i will tell you um and i see a lot of kind comments rolling in so just want to take a second to express some gratitude for all the kind words i uh again kind of managing carrying three things at once here and i've been missing more of the comments than i want to i am doing my best to keep up where i can but the phone itself now it's drenched it is just dripping wet but thank goodness for newer tech being more waterproof than older phones so all right we're gonna cross the river just up over here and then after crossing the river we're gonna sneak into the back streets and make our way towards kyoto station and let's see if we can't get lucky enough to actually make this light of course why wouldn't it start blinking as we cross it seems like the right thing to happen all right gonna get squished swish like a bun you know what i'm gonna be walking over here anyway all right there we go this is coming up on the river now [Music] all right so here we are back at the river there it is kyoto tower is no longer lit up and siren is saying norm how long will we be live i have a doctor's appointment in 15 minutes when will the next live stream be these are all very good questions well i would say we're gonna be live for still a little while we're making our way towards kyoto station and the next live stream will hopefully be close to the end of this week with as many as two to three additional live streams next week so i'm gonna cross over here and head towards that beautiful kyoto tower just happy to be off the main roads finally we got a little you know what we have a little bit of a river space here and i am just trying not to fall as we go through it so we'll walk here you can even call it a creek a canal if you will barely a canal an almost dry canal there we go there we are i just got stuck on some trees all right i will head down this come on camera narrow street right here oh there we go i don't know what it is about the back streets as soon as i get into the back streets like this the anxiety and the stress and everything it all just melts away believe it or not while we are on those main roads walking through it is just a constant roll-up of stress and anxiety and the noise and the and then we get into these back streets and it all just melts away nice and clear and everything just suddenly feels better so all right i think that canal leads to a space up here that i actually really like that i wanted to swing by this morning so again excuse the extra shakiness as i manage all the devices here but there we are and i almost missed a lovely super chat from yup captures in there saying loving the content from the uk many thanks honestly thank you so much for keeping that super chat ball rolling it means the world to me and i'm really glad that you enjoy everything so a huge thank you to you as well usually when i do these live streams i love to open it up to you know what let's take more more narrow back alleys i'm batman i like to open it up to some form of q and a but it just becomes impossible in the rain to keep my eye on everything at the level that i want to i don't want to miss anything so let's say in our next live stream adventure wherever that may be we uh we can squeeze in some form of q and a in there there we go i'm liking this little narrow alley back here and dropping the umbrella again okay all right let's try not to drop okay we might have a system that kind of works here for a second let's go with this and hope for the best got a nice little space over here hotel live max kyoto kamala it's a nice building quite beautiful actually and right here beside the little creek apparently over the past week or so kyoto has gotten really crowded and busy again with primarily domestic tourists because it has been the season for the fall leaves which is always a pretty popular season for travel in japan and kyoto has always been one of the primary fall leaves destinations for people who like checking that out so and let me roll in here i want to say a huge thank you to annette anderson again saying here's for some warm coffee thank you thank you as well as monique as well thank you so much annie get some hot coffee to warm you up take care i'm telling you when we i'm really loving this road wow look at this space this is a beautiful little area a hand see oda in here saying for a sento visit absolutely yes thank you so much for that i uh okay i think we're on the right road i think we're actually on the little road that i wanted to be on to to go i think this just kind of connects with the space that i want to be so and i may have found a way to wedge my arm in between me [Applause] and the umbrella to hold things so i think we're doing okay but yes thank you so much for all that where are we now let me take a look if you were to take a look at google maps and you were to look at dai ku cho or ju zhenji cho right in that area daiku or iwataki just trying to read these kanji here i think it's daikucho an iwataki cho if you wanted to take a look on google maps the color 12 did an amazing job on our last major adventure at marking off a lot of the spots so i want to give another huge shout out and thank you to the color 12 for all the time put into doing that just incredible huge thank you and white death sn says thank you man your videos and stream records help me through some of the tough days throughout the year and please don't do it timber ending i'm hoping a timber ending is where i fall down and everything disappears i will try not to do that and i'm really glad that i could help um i've said it about a billion times but i was lucky enough to be in a position to share a place that so many people love and so that's why i started the tokyo lens explorer channel during this time so that we could do nothing but repeated unabashed live streams over and over and over and we talked about it a little bit in last night's stream but as i said we're going to be doing an entire month of live streams this month leading up to christmas and the reason for that is that i put everything every egg into last month's basket and uh got a ton of content ready so there's gonna be a video every single week this month on tokyo lens and then in addition to that we're gonna be doing live streams every single week here on tokyo lens explorer so it'll be a huge month of content and adventure so and if you haven't already make sure to give that like button some love [Applause] coming into a nice narrow back alley here i've gotten to the point with the shoes where every step makes that sloshing noise so that's super fun for every step is like feels great and [Applause] beautiful river here that you can't see because it's so dark what in the world i expected that by 6 a.m we'd have at least some light to work with but it is still so dark you see japan no longer has the and there is wow there's no handrail or guardrail or anything here is there can i drive a light that will light anything up you just just fall off the edge into a river if you're not careful this is why you do not want to be cycling through kyoto in the dark while drinking well it's illegal to cycle drunk anyway um [Applause] and for those of you who just cannot get enough and you want more i like the how this looks over here by the way look at this look at that beautiful [Applause] in addition to all the streams that we're doing on tokyo lens explorer and the videos on tokyo lens i will be doing the usual live streams over on the patreon secret instagram for anybody who wants to hang out with those this is your invitation if you want to come and join oh boy that rain has really started coming down it says what is the temperature unfortunately i cannot take a peek at my watch right now my hands are very very full so i don't know the timbre it doesn't feel that cold honestly feels maybe like it's like 17 18 degrees celsius but i have also been walking for an hour and am wearing a thin down jacket you see uniqlo in japan has these ultra light down jackets that you can just roll up and put in this little pouch and shove in your bag or in your pocket and they're super thin and tiny when they're compressed but they're the perfect jacket to just carry around because sometimes japan has a lot of that like in between weather where it's too cold for a sweater but it's too warm for a jacket so you can just carry one of these around and i got one of them this year because i'm super cheap and they've always been like i think 50 or 60 or something and i've always been like huh we'll see i grabbed it on sale for something like 40 i know see super cheap and it was one of the best purchase decisions of the year [Applause] so [Applause] and [Applause] sweet archangel is saying that apparently it's 12 degrees see it's really hard to tell when you're walking and hot and sweating oh and we are making our way towards kyoto station right now using the back streets and getting closer and closer and in answer to the question we did cover it earlier but yes i am streaming from an iphone [Applause] all right [Applause] there we go coming up on a more main street here but we're still gonna dip into one of the back streets along the way so i think we'll dip across over this way and this should still take us towards kyoto station hopefully [Applause] and i gotta say i am genuinely impressed that the gimbal has not just shut down on us [Applause] the gimbal is honestly dripping wet right now my hands are soaking wet and it's just keep going it's just it's a trooper hat's off to the gimbal so [Applause] and the color 12. always keeping an eye on my route for me thank you so much for that saying i'm coming up on the railway line up ahead thank you i think there should be a little spot up here for me to break to the right maybe a little bridge across the river let's take a peek i don't know what it is about this mercedes-benz with a ladder on top covered in leaves that i love so much but i love it and we're gonna dip over maybe this way let's go this way [Applause] you never know if we're gonna end up with a dead end or we're going to end up going where we want to go [Applause] that'd be a fun game someone said did anyone keep an eye ooh look at this little what do we got going here has anyone ever played half-life 2 i don't know why but this entire area is giving me half-life 2 vibes is this is this even we're going to try look at all this and it's all got like barbed wire at the top no i just dropped one of my phones into the into the rain that was fun so much fun it was like all the fun if you want to have all the fun come and do what i just did you'll have all the fun there we go seriously seriously getting half-life vibes here man feels like we are but a hop skip and a jump away from kyoto station we're almost there we have survived so far it's always in the home stretch that you have to worry the most i uh had a friend back in canada a japanese friend who's living with a bunch of international students and they went on a one week road trip across canada apparently and jay walking jaywalking and in this one week road trip they traveled all over the place it was something like nine or ten days straight of travel and as they got back into canada i guess as they got back into toronto is the word we're looking for there they were minutes away from their home about to turn into the parking lot of their building when they got pulled over and it turns out the driver of the car was using a friend's car and didn't have a license and nobody knew and they got busted turning into the parking lot of their place and whenever i think of the last mile the last little bit being super dangerous i always think back to that story um s85 is saying have you been to nintendo i actually in the uh the video that i did last year the behind the scenes i think we stopped at a family restaurant right outside of nintendo for like three hours to charge up gear and edit in the restaurant and just sat there staring at nintendo so i've been kind of thinking of setting a goal for 2022 of making some more personal time for relaxation and gaming and i've been low-key thinking about getting a nintendo switch and so if there are any must-have games for the nintendo switch when the live stream wraps up please drop them in the comments and i will check them out speaking of dropping things in the comments as i said this is going to be the beginning of one month of traveling around japan for the sole purpose of doing live streams and sharing the country with you there is a live stream from kyoto last night where it wasn't raining loved that and i would love to hear from you guys as to what areas you would like to see so make sure to drop them in the comments section of this video or of last night's live stream as we walk through kyoto and honestly it is ten after six and we still have no sunlight how do we still have no sunlight what so i'm not even peeking through it's still nighttime dark here i feel like i came from that way yesterday but we're gonna go this way oops hey dude you had a red anyway he stopped he was just in the mood to honk oh boy [Music] there we are no i'm not the only jaywalker yeah you see in japan there's a certain level of passive aggression or i guess just full-on aggression for those that don't follow the rules so even though the light that that car was coming up on was a red light and he couldn't go through anyway he wasn't super pleased to see a jaywalker and felt the absolute need to honk just to let out that frustration and we let him we love him because we love him it's just having a rough morning you know nobody likes mornings even morning people don't like mornings i feel like we're getting closer and closer to kyoto station i don't know if you guys heard that but i just clear on stepped in one of the biggest puddles we have come across on this entire live stream so if the feet
