[Music] good morning guys today we're going out for a day of food and not just any food but hopefully something a little more authentic the area in right now is called me Noah it's a small stomach area near a Saxa Vista machi or back straight areas of Tokyo have always been my favorite in fact I've lived out on this side of Tokyo for the better part of 10 years if not longer but now I live on the other side of Tokyo so today I've stayed at a friend's Bo con called the under yo the owner mrs. Ichi is like the most pleasant person you'll ever meet she runs this place with her family her goal is to show like real more authentic Tokyo so I figure I'll keep that as a theme today as we're doing our food one of the things that I love is instead of having a buffet for breakfast they'll actually just make you breakfast right here we're doing so much food today that I had to skip breakfast so sorry next time next time all right let's get going thank you so much thanks for letting me stay now I have to find the gentleman who's gonna be taking me around for food today you see I know the area but I never eat where I live does that make sense I always go other places to eat so I have someone showing me around for the day because he knows all the food okay so we're gonna meet the guy yes I crypt meat the guide over at me police station in just a bit [Music] so my friends run a tour company here in Tokyo and they've assured me that they have a guide who knows all the food and we linked down below by the way I'm doing good very good Derek he know it's all the food around here very all the pressures on I'm very hungry sorry to have you meet me in such a weird space yeah yeah not got cemeteries over there but this little road here because of the view of the train lines and whatnot has always been one of my favorite spots so what's our first food for the day the Japanese down so we're doing japanese-style doughnut yeah now I have not been out to Yanaka Ginza in so long to me this is like the real side of Tokyo Chinese Channel neighborhood yeah it's really it's its traditional neighborhood in Japan you get that like you know you get a feel of what Tokyo used to be like [Music] it's also a really good place to grab straight food and you have you've already done it you brought me to a place I've never been yeah this is course for ya and this is the cat cow donut can stay in the donuts okay a lot of different options here these ones have a little cat feet on them look at that that's neat okay oh wow these look really good they actually they all look really good I don't know how I'm gonna choose man and here's the most popular one yeah this is the most popular okay I I will I will trust you [Music] alright I've never had anything like this songs to be interesting [Music] really soft yeah what it's more like a soft brownie inside than it is a donut I typically don't like dry sweets mmm I got I don't like cakes and don't have some stuff like brownies are okay because they're really moist yeah but this is really good the sweet was good but now I want something savory well it kind of is this chicken on a stick chicken on a stick yeah stick chicken all right what did you get skin you don't eat chicken skin yakitori yeah I I went with Minji cuts as it right there all right let's try yeah yeah this is really good men's cuts is always good in Japan Kabuki like eating and walking isn't really popular but we can come up to areas like nanika Ginza yeah or a sucks ah yes there are certain places where you can eat and walk and yeah this is this is one of them this is it eat and walk food if you will but that not everywhere you can do that no not everywhere definitely don't do it on the train oh that was heavy so do know about Kikuchi oh yeah those are like those liquor shops where you can actually drink in the shop right yeah okay I'm game I'm game so to paint a clearer picture inside just like this is just a normal Japanese liquor shop but outside there's a space like this where you can just sit and drink moderately popular with the people in the area you can get beer or they also have a selection of Japanese sake or nihonshu right here to choose from I think I'm going to go with a beer how about you I already miss summer all right I need to walk some of that off before we eat again haven't even eaten that much it was the beer that did it by far one of my favorite things about Tokyo in the back street so these little narrow like tunnel esque roads like this one right here Oh a hidden car we're gonna make a brief stop at one of my favorite little shrines here desert shrine it's an email shrine kind of like fushimi inari in Kyoto with the tunnel let's just this spot is definitely one of Tokyo's hidden gems it's a really spacious shrine to kind of get away from the crowds I don't remember all the gates being this short though I hit my head on the first one going in all right so a little bit of a fun fact about these torii gates in case you already didn't know what you might each one of these is actually donated by somebody a lot of them have beautiful kanji written on them like this and actually this is really rare I've never seen that but no matter what is written on them they are universally fun to walk through I'm gonna smack my head almost guaranteed [Music] this entire shop specializes in Oni D or rice balls and although there's a huge variety of stuff I always end up getting the same thing you have a favorite no time in title no actually my favorite - oh all right we're gonna get a bunch of mint I go onigiri yeah sitting why a little shop I was like any human yeah for all my time in Japan I have never been to an onigiri only restaurant it seems they have set now I'm almost full [Music] this over here is actually a pretty cute little cafe as well I love the open concept of it [Music] and we're back any thoughts for food well we're having tried takoyaki takoyaki a Japanese classic I don't know what you but I'm really partial to the idea of this mayonnaise and cheese don't try this one yeah all right but my cheesy sauce on the ice you ma yeah [Music] so you're really gonna make me eat pretty much all of this on my own a really quiet yeah okay yeah the thing to watch out for with takoyaki is it'll definitely burn your mouth so I'm in full expectation of pain right now okay Oh hot it's good it's good yeah this is just very hot good luck good luck see I told you Eric's like god you're just putting it on there's no way it's that hot it's what we call karma karma [Music]
