Walking Away from a Dangerous Job (and coming back with a new plan)...

all right you ready hey what's up climber nation patrick here so we're back today at his job site uh we were here a few weeks ago and uh i got up into this nasty basswood and uh and it just it's full of decay and i was gonna have to rig down the whole top and everything and i just i changed my mind once i got up there and i haven't done that in years i can't remember the last time i did that so i actually came down out of this tree and uh and we came up with a new plan so we're back today uh we talked to the neighbor he's gonna let us just bomb this entire top right into his yard instead of the owner's yard yeah so i'm gonna try and film this for you guys we're gonna bomb this tree into the neighbor's yard all right we've got this narrow little walkway which is going to get real muddy [Music] so again this is the neighbor's side and that's the tree there so you can see it he's got a bunch of in his backyard like buckthorn and dead trees and so uh before i bomb this top we're gonna preemptively cut down some of that stuff just to make our cleanup dog easier [Music] hmm [Music] uh-huh all right so we got the area kind of prepped a bit check it out we took down a bunch of buckthorn through the middle there as well as there was a big dead ash stem and then there was a skinny dead ash there and then two dead ash over here so that's what we're here for [Music] we just had to do a bunch of free work to be able to take that take the fast one all right so now that's cleared out i've already sunk a line into the basswood hard to see there i suck a tagline because it's a bit windy today and i need a good pull to get that whole top into this yard all right your foreign yep uh um flick this rope to me right here oh five guys pulling it once that our five one you want to settle down there bud okay so i want to pull like that way it's got a good lean like towards this towards this shop here so i want to counter the lean with my pulp yeah basically towards that spruce over there let me see that should work okay hang on if i take it here can i leave this peg just like this [Music] [Music] okay um i already warmed up my saw but just verify for me that it's gonna start with one pull just pull the switch out and back pop it back in should be fine all right i'll take her so uh it's windy boy yes [Music] wow [Music] [Music] right hey all right you ready [Music] um [Music] beautiful it's got a lot of decay through the center here the decay doesn't start until further up like the real bad stuff oh yeah you're cutting the decent wood that was okay yeah as we slice it up we'll take a look at it see how bad it actually was so so yeah that's the main section that i was worried about you can see from down there it was hollow and i could see it went way up but i couldn't tell how far and then that crack was there [Music] um nasty [Music] [Music] [Music] ah [Music] [Applause] [Music] so yeah it's one of those situations where you know it was it was very localized decay there was one main section of the trunk there it was really bad and below that wasn't nearly as bad and above it could be not nearly as bad so um overall like was it as bad as i thought maybe maybe not but better safe than sorry i wouldn't want to rig off it that's all it's a basswood it's shitty soft stuff to begin with right and with that much decay in the middle there we want to put a lot of rigging forces on it so hopefully you guys get something some value out of that until next time [Music] peace [Music] [Applause] you
