VW Golf R v BMW M135i v Audi S3 v AMG A35: DRAG RACE

which is the quickest two liter four-cylinder turbocharged german hot hatchback over the standing quarter mark well we're gonna find out today because we're putting up a new volkswagen golf r which i am sat in against a bmw m135i a mercedes amg a35 and the new audi s3 to find out oh yes it's drag race time people so let me tell you about this golf it has 320 horsepower and 420 newton meters of torque the bmw it has 306 horsepower but 450 newton meters of torque the mercedes it has 306 horsepower and 400 newton meters of torque the audi has 310 horsepower and 400 newton meters of torque all these cars are automatic and they all have launch control every car has a dual clutch automatic gearbox apart from the bmw which uses a torque converter system still got launch control though in terms of weight they're all about the same over 1500 kilos though the bmw is pushing 1600 kilos price wise ranges from around 37 000 pounds to 39 000 pounds anyway we're gonna do a drag race but before we that anyway and i'll get on with the race let's do it i've got a feeling this is going to be bloody quick come on go far oh great start absolutely destroyed the field oh my god there is no way this car has just 320 horsepower that's a load of arse speaking of arse my arse dynometer which is very finely tuned and calibrated it reckons this card it's gonna have about 340 350. how was your launch out here how did it go for you yeah really really hooked up that beamer he was a little bit ahead of me but then i just seemed to pull past him but you just spec you've got no hope for catching that so bmw close one between the audi but in the end no yeah exactly that i think i got a better launch because this does have a nice elastic band style torque converter mercedes were you in the race it wasn't the best it launches okay but it's just not as fast as the other certainly not as fast as golf this is like otherworldly in fact you know what i have specialist timing gear here i've got the results on it they're going to blow you away so then what exactly happened well the volkswagen won completing the standing quarter mile in an incredible 12.3 seconds the id was second with 12.8 seconds the bmw was third with a time of 12.9 seconds and the amg was last taking 13.7 seconds to do the quarter mile due to a bad start to be fair though the ng would still have come last anyway even with a great start as the best time we've ever had out of an a35 it's 13.4 seconds okay now we're gonna have a rolling race from 50 miles an hour with the cars in their comfiest settings and their automatic gearboxes in normal drive just chilling right i'll call this in three two one go come on kick down that took forever to kick down the bmw was off that mercedes is napping again here comes the vw golf though can i compass the audi bye-bye everybody definitely more than 320 horsepower gearbox on this was a little bit coming all right i'll change down now i don't need to hurry because i'm quicker than the others and then the others took off then this just caught up i went by hmm i bet you're feeling a bit smug at first bmw i really was i felt great and i was even beating the s3 but i was so taken aback by how well i was doing i forgot that you were in the race you absolutely destroyed me and it was quite close between me and us three wasn't it but in the end uh my superior driving skills which is what it was down to you know i held the wheel very straight and i kept my right foot firmly on the floor that saw me through yeah it looked like we all had a really slow kick down and then it looked like mine was just a little bit ahead of yours and i thought this is good and i started pulling past the beam i thought i'm gonna get a win here and then again just your little happy face pulling down the road away from us devastating and what happened in the mark yeah it just took what felt like a week to kick down and by the time it had you guys were just gone oh dear paul mercedes now we're going to do the same thing again this time though we're in our sporty settings and we're going to be in manual mode locked in third gear and i call it in three two one go oh the pick up on this is pretty intense i don't even have to change up it does it automatically that odd he really picked up come on is there enough runway to catch him is there enough runway come on come on yeah i've come past holding the brakes now blimey i'm really enjoying today for some reason i i can't think why howdy that was so close but i came past in the end that was a lot closer than the other races i think it really was bmw how was it for you it wasn't bad at all i think we all got a pretty even getaway that time and mercedes what was your pickup like were you like level with us for about like two seconds and then it was all over do you know what this picked up really well this time in sport eventually you guys just pulled away oh dear finally then we're gonna have a break test from 70 miles an hour when we reach the line full emergency stop here comes the line that was almost a complete role reversal mercedes you won one this breaks really really well hey thank god save some face for amg good stuff audi we've basically got the same cars though you are on slightly bigger alloy wheels so a bit more contact patch with the ground i'd say even though we've got the same time so or maybe your reactions are just better it felt really strong under brakes i'd say it's more down to tires than anything i think the curb weight above these is pretty similar that's probably a tyre thing and bmw you're the heaviest um you lost that yeah you're right i did but not by much and if i was this close to you in the drag race i'll be blooming chuffed so uh i'm not too downhearted overall i think it's a win for this vw golf r what a machine it is so quick for a four-cylinder two-liter turbo it's nuts i hope you all enjoyed the video if you did please give it a like now i just So it seems the stock MK8 Golf R is closer in quickness to my stage 1 MK7.5 than a stock MK7.5, sitting between the two. They really wound the thing up a bit right out of the factory.

Shame they ruined the interior and exterior design in the process.
