Subaru Impreza P1 v Mitsubishi Evo: DRAG RACE

hi how are you matt watson here from car wow which rally driver would be quickest in a drag race colin mcrae or tommy mackinnon well we're going to find out cause i'm going to drag race a subaru impreza p1 colin mcrae against a mitsubishi evo 6 tommy mackinnon edition yeah and obviously i'm going to be playing colin mcrae we've got someone playing tommy hi tommy how are you hi matt i'm good feels cool to be in this little car and it's a manual and i know yours is manual so this is going to be fun yeah i think a lot of people will reckon that you're not able to change gears yourself you either have an automatic or you employ someone to actually operate the gear lever for you when you're driving a manual car is that correct no i'm old school driver mate so it's nice to be in a manual this guy actually belongs to a greek guy so i went up to him just now said to him is his car in good condition he goes mate it's bomba and when you're greek bomber means like yeah it's really really nice so i started laughing and the thing is you've actually driven one of those before because you and i have raced a tommy mckinnon edition evo against my gi yaris oh this is close come on this one seems used feels nice so i'm hoping it's going to give me some good performance get away we've got the same brake horsepower haven't we so they're the same car theoretically the thing is right i was so impressed with how well you drove that evo 6 tommy mackinnon edition i only just beat you in the gr yaris and when i say i just beat you it was basically a photo finish the times were the same you're gonna you know see if you can beat me when i'm in a car the same era and i'm just gonna run through the stats now if you wanna go on your phone or something okay then he'll do his thing and i'll do mine let me tell you about this impreza p1 [Music] this car was registered in the year 2000. and it has a two liter turbocharged petrol engine it's actually a boxer engine on pistons four cylinder box oranges anyhow it puts out 280 horsepower and 353 newton meters of torque it's got four wheel drive a five-speed manual gearbox and this car weighs in at 1283 kilos if you'd like to buy this very car it's going to set you back around 45 000 pounds oh yes these things have gone up in value and i've got a plaque here this is why it's so expensive which says this is a limited edition car by prodrive and it's number 922 of 1000 built that tommy mckinnon evo 6 it also has a 2-litre turbocharged pixel engine also with 280 horsepower however it's got a bit more torque 373 newton meters bit heavier though weighs in at 1 360 kilos it's also got a 5 super manual gearbox and four-wheel drive if you want to buy that today it's around 45 000 pounds but i wonder if that car has a plaque in your car i haven't got any plaques why have you got plaques in your car i've got plaque on my teeth and i've got a plaque down there there must be a plaque that says like tommy mackinnon or something somewhere look in the center console we've got tommy mackinnon on the on the seat tom mackinnon edition but hasn't got anything else in here that's it now if you're thinking about buying a from the turbo you've got no pops though have you mate i've got no pops got no bangs you've got no friends quite a slow revving engine is that going to go against me no i think i will beat you i just do three two oh both got off the line oh that evo's quick got him ah [Applause] he's having me he's having me got him oh yeah oh no yeah you're well happy aren't you so happy gear change baby thank you very much my first gear change wasn't brilliant it was all right i don't think that made the difference i think your car might be quicker will you give me another go though just to be sure i enjoyed it so much i'm happy to do it again three two one [Music] good launch good gear change his gear changes rubbish [Music] come on good gear change matt do you know what mate it's your gear change pal no i don't think it is right i basically be going to camera good gear change good gear change good gear change good gear change good gear change honestly those gear changes are about as good as i could do probably not colin mcrae good but still pretty blooming good i ain't gonna get no better than that your car is just faster so then what exactly happened well the mitsubishi one completing the standing quarter mile in 13.6 seconds while the subaru took 13.8 seconds what we're gonna do now is a roll on in second gear from 30 miles an hour three two one go that's about a gear change i've learned yeah i don't know how that worked though 30 mile an hour beating him matt how were you at 30 mile an hour my car was jerking all over the place and it was more like 45 ma oh mine kilometers i'm in kilometers you might be better at gear changing than me but i'm better at reading a speedo yeah but michael was dancing around like a kangaroo juice in there mate it was too slow okay let's do something else then okay now we have a rolling race from 50 miles an hour in third gear three two one go building the boost oh here we go and here's the half mile my lips pops out okay so when there's less skill involved i seem to be winning now yeah and to be fair mine tops out actually mine like goes right round what does that mean mine tops out it goes right round so full pelt at fourth gear it's moving the minute i go to fifth gear and it comes off the speedo so it actually doesn't give me any more yeah still not fully understanding it you're lost though right yeah because mine doesn't mind like got a limiter on it so once it goes off the speedo it's finished japanese cars i think they had a limit of 120 or something but i don't know if we pull in that anyway it is what
