sure hey Sharon yes what comment do you always get about your hair then it's thick is it thick no so here we're gonna do we're gonna go ahead and we're gonna show you exactly how she does her hair we're gonna show you how to use a round brush how to use a flatiron what kind of styling products to use how to use them appropriately all of the things so that you can make short thin hair look thick right solid idea right let's jump to it can we take a side note here real quick white shirt just so you know I listen to your comments I'm wearing white black white just wanted to throw that out there so one of the things we want to do is make sure that we're trying to create as much thickness or the illusion of as much thickness and fullness as we can right so on a typical day now this is gonna change a little bit right now she doesn't want a ton of volume in a day that she wants a lot more volume the first thing we're gonna start with is a volumizing product and making sure that we're using enough of it so there's a few products that we like but one for instance is this T ecni Art mousse okay this stuff is great because it will give you a little bit of control and volume without a lot of texture in it but if we're gonna use it we're gonna use about that much to get the amount of volume and texture now again I'm not putting this in her hair but you start out with show me we're gonna use a little bit of this this is called revamp and this is going to give us the illusion of fullness and volume but it's not gonna give us a lot of texture it's gonna be a lighter product so it's not gonna look or feel like there's a bunch of stuff in there this is how you typically use it so what do you do with this right now like what would you typically how would you use that I would can I do it a little bit after I had my hair before I Drive so work it through work it through and you know start okay so first of all one of the things that I want you to recognize here is that when she's working that product through she's working it through it everywhere we're not just spraying it in one spot and then letting it go she's making sure to use her hands to really distribute that product through all of the hair roots to ends whenever you're applying a product to create volume or any shape you want to make sure that you have some of the roots but it's also important that you have it in the mid shaft and the ends because that's how you're actually gonna hold it Bend Bend which you'll find out in a little bit is really what creates volume and shape just having product at the roots creates root lift that's all it is is root lift so you've got lift and then your ends just kind of sit there flat you also want to make sure that your hair is not totally dry or dry in spots you want to basically get out of the shower and towel blotted so that it's got an equal amount of moisture everywhere so again that the product distributes evenly through everything what do you do like what is your step by step when you start drying your hair well first of all I sit down when I do my hair okay okay so let's back up why do you sit down it's a lot easier you're more relaxed you a lot of times we get real tense or arms get sore what do we get it's holding up here when you're sitting down you just won't relax there is some validity to the idea of if you have an area where you can put a chair or set up some sort of sitting area it's a great way to go about not dealing with the fatigue and just being able to talk over it like this right took forward so you don't have to hold your arms up for so long all of that stuff is really beneficial so that's a great point okay so we're gonna do now so then basically I'm just brushing this in here and I moving it all around so that I get some volume but I'm getting as much moisture out of the hair as I can before I do any more styling this hair when we get it styled is going to be coming more down so by blow-drying this stuff up like this you're starting to get a little bit more of that root lifting at the roots here so you have some foundation to create more of that volume that she wants there is one other little thing that I want to share one of the things that she does especially let's say you have some wave in your hair or some curl in your hair using your scalp as somewhat of a round brush using your scalp as a flat surface to wrap sorry to wrap your hair around it's going to help to start straightening that out of it and start smoothing that out of it so when you're using your blow dryer and you're doing this all around your hair wrapping it around this side wrapping it forward wrapping it back starting material wrapping it for like this wrapping it down right doing this this is helping smooth that hair out it's helping get a little bit of volume at the roots and it's helping get that a little bit straighter so you have less to try to deal with when you're around brushing or flatter anything at the very end now we're gonna walk through the process of how you would round brush this so the round brush you choose what you want to pay attention to is that the round brush is not a lot smaller than billing to you here you shouldn't be able to wrap your hair around it much more than once if it's really long and you got a really small brush like this hey you're just gonna get a lot of curl at the very ends which isn't gonna actually create Bend that's what great volume and B you're gonna have a much higher probability of rolling that round brush back and then end up with an hour worth of you trying to get around brush out of your hair probably enough cutting it this long what do you do when you start round brushing it when I started I take it I started the hardest areas and the area to me is right here in the crown how many of you want to know how to round brush the back of your head or style the back of your head here's how okay so you got the hair down and you're just taking it right in the crown area and I can just pick it up and I make sure that when I comb through the hair that I comb it smooth get it through and then I'm going to take the brush and make sure the ends I can feel with my hands the ends are at the brush and I don't roll it all the way down I roll it half way so let me let me show you guys this I'm going to spin her around here real quick so where her roots are going they're moving forward they're not even up and they're not down there forward this is creating root Bend which is going to create volume when she takes this brush out of her hair it's going to want to come forward which she will be able to comb down and manipulate and not make it end up styling forward but it will give that initial Bend that's creating that's gonna create the volume so what I would do is just take here can I can I use this okay so so I'm gonna grab it and I can spray just a little bit and then when I put it in think of this like kind of like a very light hairspray take it and then now I'm doing it right now if you can see once you dry that right it's gonna stay up like this it's not gonna end up like that but we're gonna stay I'll be this what that allows is for you to get that hair out of the way easily so that you can move on to the next section below that so that's how you'll deal with the back is essentially starting with this stuff so that you can get that out of the way it so you can move to the next section and get that out of the way so you can move to the next section okay so let's talk about flat ironing now there are a lot of things to kind of take into consideration when you're flat iron especially on short hair again I don't think people realize that you can create a lot of volume with a flat iron and in fact I kind of prefer to use a flat iron because the way it heats the hair it locks that bending more efficiently so it's typically going to last longer it's gonna add shine and it's gonna add a smoothness to the hair that to be honest you just can't get without the amount of heat that these do these use so where do you start again in the back like you normally do exactly so you take your section and pull it up forward after blue making sure that that roots going forward and then I make sure that I run it all the way out to the end okay so let me I'm just gonna turn her to the side here so you guys can see this better so what's going on is she is putting grabbing the section and she's bringing these roots again just like we're in the round brush she's bringing these roots forward and then adding the bend and going slowly over the ends and what's that doing is it's creating this curl right but what ends up happening is when you take this length when you take this brush and you comb that curl out what you end up with is a bend which creates a bunch of volume moving into the front right so let's maybe because this might give you a little bit of a better idea kind of to see it from a different angle if you will I wanted to be fluffy but I don't want curl I can take this just give me an idea I can take this and I can roll it all the way around and look how I don't want that yeah so what happens is when you add too much Bend you twist your wrist too much you're gonna get curling it again go back to the video that I found about longer hair with curl with a flat iron flat iron you will get wave out of it here's the thing curl does not create necessarily volume Ben especially on short hair creates volume those are two different things so if you want volume and control what you're really looking for is about that much if you can see from the side about that much Bend Bend doesn't only create volume it also creates controlling when I say control what I mean is being able to get your hair to do what you want if you want it to come back off your face it's gonna come back off your face if you want to wear some pieces down more like a bang it's gonna wear it down if you want to bring it off to this side we're gonna if we've got Bend in it we can get it to that side right it's gonna give you the control to be able to style your hair the way you want to style it unlike the other video I did we're talking about long hair unlike that in this scenario you actually because of how short the hair is you can twist your wrist because it will create that little bit of Bend that you might need what you do then is you start at the root and you start to twist it and as you get towards the end you twist less and we'll kind of go through and actually Finance Minister you guys can kind of watch this process but pay attention to when you pull the section out where those roots are going if you put this blender in and you do this all you're doing is giving those ends some Bend and you're laying that flat against the scalp so adding this a little bit of motion up and bent that's gonna help you get that up off of the roots and create more root lift flat iron it now we're done now what do we do from here so in Sharon's case we're gonna want to add a little bit more shine back into it she's got a fair amount of shine in some areas right now already part of that's because of the revamp that we used prior part of that's because the flatiron just happens to lock in shine which is nice but we want to give a little bit more separation in softness to it I mean so keeping it from looking too stiff and held into one spot that's kind of the biggest key that we're getting through with this would you agree yeah in my generation to feel like a hairdo I wanted to have some movement this is clay okay from l'oréal and we are going to use a little bit of this okay so I'm gonna put this in I'm actually gonna give it to you but this is how much let me just show you that's how much we're using okay not a lot but and put this earrings so she's gonna work it all through her hands now when she goes to apply it there's gonna be a couple of things here that are very important so go ahead and put in your hair and I'll walk them through what you're doing okay so first of all notice where she started she started in the back not in the front ninety percent of your hair is back here and people want to have a tendency to put the product in especially when they got shorter and they go straight to ten percent of their hair which is their bangs then you end up with greasy bangs or a lot of controlling this kind of weird stuff going on the front and you don't end up with product all over the interior which is a lot of what's creating the overall shape so start in the back another thing that she's doing is she's actually bending her hands a little bit and she's working it through the ends now what you'll see is when I do this those ends are hitting my palms and that means that that product is going over the ends and it's not attaching itself directly to the root right at the gate so she does this she's working it through also if you noticed when she worked it through she wasn't ginger about it she got in there she moved it around she messed it up right and she really worked that product through she's giving it a lot of movement now see the amount of texture and movement that we're seeing in it right now this is gonna keep it from looking too contrived which is gonna keep it from looking so much like a do like a hairdo there is one thing that happens as we age and that is that we will start to thin around our hairline that's most folks so having some softness around there will help to add the illusion of a little bit more thickness in there so you can also bring it back off your face and if you notice when you do bring it back off the face it has a tendency to create the illusion that there's more of a line drawn past the cheekbone here which draws the eye up and creates more cheek structure versus when it gets too full down here her hair doesn't really do that because it's not cut to do that that's how it kind of lays soft in here anyway but if there's too much fullness down here it can actually just make it look thicker and add more emphasis on cheeks versus having that back up off the face it kind of lifts everything up you can still have some softness there see this line see how this line does in there it's the same if you follow the cheek structure it does the same thing and it draws this volume brings the eye into this volume right here which is slimming it lifts everything up it does really what we want to do as we age which is lift things up easy is that all right that's all the tips on short hair how to make a look thicker I hope that helped if you
