[Music] hello and welcome back to the channel i'm your host and fred flintstone of full voice ken levine i'm a singer and vocal coach here on youtube and today we are looking at my mother told me by voice play but before we do that i'd just like to remind you all to please remember to hit that subscribe button and the notification bell so you don't miss out on any of the great stuff that we produce here every week on the channel so this is a request from sultana samara uh on my youtube channel uh so tana writes please react to voice play my mother told me it was sufficiently cryptic enough to actually get me my attention so i thought why not let's check out voice play one more time they're always good always high quality and always so silky smooth so i am interested to hear what they have to do what they have to say with this song right now here we go three two one boom my mother told me someday i will buy gally with good oars sail to distant shores wait a second he's saying that with an accident does he have an accent is that lane sail to distinct he's kind of has a bit of a he's doing something icelandic with that man they all have pretty voices though man listen to this a mother told me oh so good and then i galley with good old [Music] you know they're all looking very dramatic in the makeup and the costumes and i'm i first i couldn't decide whether they were vikings or pirates or zombies oh my but they look good and they always do a good job they look good the costumes are good the makeup's cool um they very look very fierce jeff what are you doing oh [Laughter] by the eye of odin that is a low note i gotta hear that again okay so what he's doing technically there is um if you want to try and emulate what jeff is doing you need to literally swallow swallow your larynx and then take in a big belly full of air and belch out that tone uh that is uh i can't tell if that is sub-harmonics or a growl or a combination of both or some kind of um um mongolian throat singing technique that he's employing there it's really cool i just want to get another hit of that [Music] who stand [Music] [Music] okay um okay i don't know why i'm focusing on this it has nothing to do with the music at all it's just to do with the performance of these these guys obviously no strangers of getting up in front of the camera and doing their thing and i just love how they're they've got the dead eye stare like i am so going to [Music] mess you up and that's actually really hard to do uh hard to sustain i guess i should say without feeling kind of self-conscious while they're doing this so i'm really curious if they have like a crew of people who are filming them because clearly they're not on location that that is the backgrounds are green screens but they're really awesome backgrounds and the lighting is totally on point they all look like they're in different sort of viking locales yeah um i challenge you to just sort of like stare michael kane like into the camera for a while and not feel incredibly awkward it's it's challenging anyway i'm geeking out on something totally unmusical related but performance related and and i'm digging it i'm i'm liking what they're doing my mother told me someday i [Music] sail two distant shores stand upon the prowl noble work i [Music] okay i like how okay this is another background thing and i promise i'll i'll focus in on the music in a minute i like how they have jeff in a cave because that's basically what his voice sounds like it's coming from a cave it's so low and deep and bottomless [Music] okay hang on guys i've been watching a few beatbox um world beatbox uh champions i can't remember what it's called the beatbox uh world b box challenge and uh the the video submissions for the wild card and those guys are amazing uh i wonder what what would you what did lane do what is that that's sort of like it's like he's gathering up all this powerball energy and then sending it out is that uh is that live or is that you know been i don't know enhanced somehow it's really cool effect i like it [Music] [Music] mother [Music] [Music] so is that eli he's the tenor and okay well let's hang on back up i just need to where are they he lies in the middle i think and uh yeah looking fierce there taking the lead on that high part uh with um jesse is that jessie over here with the beard anyway uh so good so good um yeah really really good control over that high tessitura going up to that high c high d d c flat c sharp i guess um sounding so smooth that's that's not easy to do [Music] my mother told me someday i went by [Music] stand up [Music] many men [Music] okay i did it again but this one didn't is that just lane doing that sound or is he getting some help from one of the other singers going at the same time putting that out there to everyone who is more knowledgeable about uh the intricacies of how voice player layers their audio so good [Music] okay i love what they're doing here on this just sustained ooh vowel it's very distinct at least in my headphones i can make out each of their voices are not trying to sound like one um barbershop quartet voice they're they're playing around hence the name um and it's it's distinct but uh i like what they're doing it sounds more natural to me to what they would probably sound like live um often with vocal acapella groups there's a little bit of tuning that happens with it sweetening the tuning in post and it's necessary sometimes because you want everything to be in tune with each other and if you're recording things in a different location uh like this appears to be then you're going to need to you're not going to get the same um gelling effect of being in the same room and letting all of those delicious sounds um uh marinate in the same sonic environment um but this i like this feels real it feels [Music] authentic [Music] okay okay the song's over dude oh yeah okay always entertaining voice play they are um meticulous in their orchestrations they're entertaining um they sustained that energy all the way throughout the entire performance and it was great to to see them with the backgrounds there um really uh i just having fun with it having fun being badasses that was kind of oh it's nice to see anyway uh great um a question about the production the vocal production of jeff not again not sure whether that was a sub-harmonic or it's hard to tell sometimes first pass what he's what he's doing and what particular vocal technique that he's employing to make that those sounds those incredibly low tones which sounds so incredibly satisfying within the mix of the whole group and and probably on their own could you imagine he's just practicing and he's just low tone after low tone and you're like i'm getting used to the floor rumbling all the time um okay uh now if you are a singer who is up and coming or just trying to figure yourself out and you would like to tap into your own floor rumbling vocals i strongly suggest you reach out to a talented vocal coach there might be one living in your area that's the best way to learn one-on-one times being what they are it's not always possible you can reach out to one of us vocal coaches out here in youtube land you don't have to work with me but if you want to work with me i will be sure to leave those links down below in the description and yes um as always please remember to hit that subscribe button and the little bell icon so you don't miss out on any of the great stuff we produce here every week on the channel and if you have made it to the end of this video thank you so much for hanging on and hanging in and we will see you next time [Music] oh
