welcome back to the charismatic voice the legendary meatloaf recently passed away and we have yet to feature him on this channel so that is going to change today who better to welcome meatloaf in the afterlife than dio himself of course we're going to look to jack black to unite us all and believe it or not this will be my very first time ever hearing kickapoo i have previewed the lyrics and there are a lot of f-bombs so let's see how i manage [Music] a long ass time ago in a town called kickapoo they lived a humble family religious through and through but yeah there was a black sheep and he knew just what to do his name was young jp and he refused to step in line a vision he did see it rocking all the time he rode a tasty jam and all the planets did a lion [Music] oh the dragons bought the blazin and i stepped into his cave this is this is fun up first okay we're gonna go back to the beginning because we need to take a moment to appreciate jack black's voice i've heard jack black many times uh i have to say i like a lot of tenacious these songs um there's there's just a lot of different things he's done as well um all right kung fu panda that's really fun and uh i've heard him in some video games well anyway he's really really awesome i think that we need to have so much appreciation not only for his ability to really bring us into a story and a character but his ability to sing really high in a really pure tone for a long time these high notes that he's singing they don't sound like they've got any sort of strain going on and then he'll put in a little more pressure to get some more attitude in them but he's able to sing high and enunciate so well at the same time without any sort of extra clinching down i think it's really fantastic vocal production [Music] catchy too a long ass time ago in a town called kickapoo they lived a humble family religious through and through but yeah there was a black sheep and he knew just what to do his name was young jp and he refused to step in line a vision he did see it rocking all the time he rode a tasty jam and all the planets did alive yeah get the dragon's it were blazing and i stepped into his cave and i sliced his cockles shiny blades [Music] [Music] i love this kid this kid is awesome i'm usually gonna talk about a dragon [Laughter] and i i totally adore how his language just very much disturbs the family oh my goodness how dare you say all of these things i really love the way that jack back's voice um it gets a little distortion and he's totally rocking around there you can have you can hear that he's having so much much fun uh i also like the way we had a very slight shift in the um sort of backing instruments it's all been fairly acoustic so far but you can tell the style shifted right here and we just started to rock out a lot more but it's still kind of early rock at times you know we don't have a huge drum kick going on behind us this feels like young kid learning how to rock that's really really really cool we're gonna go back to his great moment oh the dragon's balls are blazing and i stepped into his cave then i sliced his cackle with a loud shiny blade [Music] and if you try to with me then i shall you too gotta get it all in the party zone [Music] he's got a black sabbath t-shirt on okay sorry let's appreciate the black sabbath [Music] [Music] you did not deserve that kid you did not you did not that was a really cool song i'm totally digging the whole dragon thing and yeah you gotta you gotta go conquer that dragon with that long and shiny blade yeah um that's so sad by the way this apparently is the beginning of a movie slash musical which i've also never seen i think it's called the pick of destiny i'm definitely going to supply a link to that in the about section below and i might just have to watch that soon after watching this initial one okay back a little bit [Music] rock and roll's the devil's work he wants you to rebel you become a man [Music] uh and there you have it meatloaf's awesome section he he really has so much power and enunciation and distinctiveness in his styling i'm gonna go back here um is this listen to that enunciation he's leaning and chewing through those consonants like crazy you he doesn't just briefly glide over a white not you but you right and you can hear him seeing singing through his teeth too which really fits the character of course wow okay he's also with that chewing of the contents he's being so specific about the pitch at the same time [Music] and there's a substitutive style thing that he does which it always was like hey he essentially does a little slide at the end of phrases a bunch very very distinctive and you hear it um a lot in here let's go back one more time i can't say enough good about his enunciation it is crazy powerful strong he's it's so easy to understand him you understand uh meatloaf came from a musical theater background right where but rock musical theater that is so important to get across your words and your story to the audience and you don't have a chance for them to go back like i'm doing here and re-listen and catch that phrase again it has to happen the first time and you don't want them thinking about what the words are you want them to be digesting the whole story that's playing in front of them and be able to turn off that analytical brain of what are these lyrics you need those lyrics to just pop get out there with such ease and clarity that a person doesn't have to think about what you're saying his lyr or his enunciation is spectacular this music that you play for us comes from the depths of hell rock and roll's the devil's work he wants you to reveal really nice characterization in there too um you know i get the idea of a very angry uh southern preacher at one point and i was told to watch out for this he rips down a bat at one point in here the bat that's hanging up which i think is referring to um [Music] can you hear me i am lost and so alone i'm asking for your guidance won't you come down from your throne i need a tight compadre who will teach me how to rock my father thinks you're evil but man he can suck a the rock is not the devil's work it's magical and rad i'll never rock as long as i am stuck here with my dad i adore the different clear movements within this and the way that each character has a moment where they can have just uh um can really let loose or really express one emotion very thoroughly i like the composition aspect of this and i it's so sweet how um innocent jack black can sound in this role it's it's one of the things i like about his voice he can sound really angelic or really dirty it's just he's got like the whole gamut to play with and uh this kid uh as he's saying things like what was that there was one particular line that just cracks me up oh but but man he can suck a he sounds so pure as he's saying that still it's it sounds like a like a little kid for reals good job jack black rock is not the devil's [Music] [Music] i'll never rock as long as i am stuck here with my dad also need to get behind this phrase rock is not the devil's work it's magical and rad uh i i hear lots of people coming to me and telling me that they were told when they were young that that music was bad you shouldn't listen to it that's true i i grew up in that a little bit but i was really listening to a lot more classical country church so that that didn't hit me as much um and definitely now this perspective and growing and listening to rock music with all of you and your suggestions and metal and getting into that man good music is good music guys enjoy good music make good music music helps bring people together music literally makes you feel better it makes things in your brain function better it will make you happier so make good music listen to music sing and have fun because music is an awesome thing it's it's not going to be the devil's work all music is going to be magical and rad so there's there's my preach sermon for the day enjoy good music is not the devil's work it's magical and rad yeah i'll never rock as long as i am stuck here with my dad i hear you brave young gables you are hungry for the rock but to learn the ancient methods sacred doors you must unlock escape your father's clutches in this oppressive neighborhood on a journey you must go to find the land of the holy one [Music] it was literally in the poster i love the way they set that up that was so so very cool and apparently when they recorded this fun story apparently dio walked and he had his own mic but they tried it out on their system first and it dio's first take shredded the mic and he said well that's that's why i bring my own mic so anyhow i just dilo's voice is so powerful and so good let's go back uh here okay i hear you brave young jables you are hungry for the rock but to learn the ancient methods sacred doors you must unlock escape your father's clutches in this oppressive neighborhood on a journey you must go to find the land [Music] in the city of fallen angels where the ocean meets the sand you will form a strong alliance and the world's most awesome bread to find your favorite fortune through the valley you must work you will face your inner demons i you all know this by now i love dio he is for me one of the greatest singers of all genres of all times and he's also he's quite old here you know and just still has such great vocal production i dig the way that the entrance had him so aggressive so pointed in the sound it was very rare which helped to to balance meatloaf's character right um and then you get to this uh i almost felt like a blessing more peaceful moment of seeking the land of hollywood and all of the glories in it and you know disneyland isn't too far away at disneyland's like an hour away from hollywood so we can include that in there too um so thinking about yeah the land the lovely land of hollywood and the way that dio's voice uh picked up some more depth so instead of being really here in the production you got a little more sound back here a little more roundness in it and you could hear uh the warmth and the sort of benediction the dew was giving and then went back a little where some rock elements i want to go back to dia's entrance one more time because it's so cool to hear the shift in there and how deliberately it was written and performed i hear you brave young gables you are hungry for the rock but to learn the ancient method sacred escape your father's clutches in this oppressive neighborhood on a journey you must go to find the land [Music] in the city of fallen angels where the ocean meets the sand a little closer to classical vocal production and the world's most awesome bear to find your fame and fortune through the valley you must walk you will face your inner demons [Music] with hunger in his heart and he journeyed far and wide to find the secrets of his art but in the end he knew that he would find his counterpart [Music] i i just want to go back to this ability of jack black's voice to take us through a story here he's keeping it pretty pretty simple at this point just getting these words to us and a nice storytelling tone that reminds me of reminds me of a peter gabriel or phil collins the kind of it's got a certain um a simplicity and pureness to it that makes it just really easy to take you through a storyline that's very effective he's such a smart singer and and producer and actor he's a really fantastic person [Music] i also love the music translation here with hunger in his heart and he journeyed far and wide to find the secrets of his art but in the end he knew that he would find his counterparts crying [Music] uh okay this is this is super fun we have to go back listen to how he's singing rock and all these different times he'll he will switch and freshen up the vowel in a really cool way so sometimes he starts out with raw and then as soon as he goes towards an at the end of rock he'll he's playing with it and it's not it's a vowel and it's also how he's threading the vowel so where that vowel essentially focuses in the sound it's really cool you hear it goes more nasal that time and starts a lot more falsetto um here adds more tone there [Music] and then just becomes a full music [Music] awesome this was such a fun start to what looks like a really fun film i'm gonna have to watch the whole thing i adore that we had three legendary vocalists singing in it and each of them on their own is able to do so many different colors and really use their technical chops to bring a character to life so we ended up having three very vivid characters that even within their small bits had a lot of dynamic growth it was very well written for each person and i find that kind of writing and performance just satisfying and inspiring if you would like to be inspired by some more deal i have an entire playlist of his work over here and hopefully we'll see some more jack black and meatloaf on the channel soon [Music] you
