[Music] well hello guys and as I promised a visited Vladivostok hey guys and welcome to Vladivostok took me eight hours to get here so let's talk about it this is a city in the Far East of Russia the name actually came from two Russian words rule edit and vostok which means possess the east few Russians living in the European part of Russia have actually been to Vladivostok because tickets are pricey and flying time is no joke for Moscow the flying time is a little over eight hours but the majority of Russians will have to first fly to Moscow and then to Vladivostok but that's nothing compared to taking the train yes Vladivostok is the terminus of the famous trans-siberian railway which is a seven day journey from Moscow Vladivostok is geographically closer to Alaska and even Australia than it is to Moscow how did Russia get this far to this part of the world especially in the 19th century when logistics was not nearly as advanced I was asking myself that question well initially the region was inhabited by aboriginals and have been part of many Chinese dynasties when China lost the opium war with Britain and was unable to defend the region Russia took advantage of the opportunity and acquired the entire maritime province and the island of Sakhalin but the Treaty of Beijing in 1860 in 1871 a commercial port was relocated to Vladivostok from nikolayeva on a more another Russian City the first school was opened in 1899 and it wasn't until they completed the trans-siberian railway which connected the city to Moscow that the city's economy was given a big boost during the Soviet times the city was a closed one surely it has changed since that time so let's take a look at the modern day Vladivostok in 2019 the population of the city today is 605 thousand people and it keeps growing which is not always the case in many Russian cities the city's economy is based on shipping industry commercial fishing and the naval base this is the largest Russian port on the Pacific coast and the headquarters of the Russian Pacific Fleet major exports include fish and seafood lumber ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy and major imports are food medicine clothes and home appliances for a number of years later Vostok was the sole supplier of used Japanese cars and people from all over Russia were coming to Vladivostok to buy a cheap and reliable Japanese domestic market car and take it back to their city driving that same car from many thousands of kilometers and risking their lives in the process because a lot of times they could get robbed by the criminals and in the 1990s for many thousands of kilometers this part of Russia was still like the Wild West the car would have the steering wheel on the right of course this practice went on for many years until the government raised the tariffs and made it no longer profitable to do so the practice stopped but in Vladivostok the car fleet still consists of about 90 percent Japanese vehicles with the chorus came the cultures of TuneIn driftin and street racing the city fell into the trap of car dependence for every 1000 people they have 437 cars with the national average being 373 all the central streets are flooded with cars not enough parking I have not seen a single multi-level parking garage in terms of city development this is a dead-end and if they want the city to grow further they'd better come up with a public transportation alternative when it comes to public transportation buses is the most popular option while trams and electric buses as well as ferries and boats are becoming less popular roads are okay in the city but going outside of the city you might get in trouble you'd better keep an eye on the road or you might lose a will or two and I'm not exaggerating especially destinations like Slovakia and andreyeva is a total madness at a speed of 100 kilometers an hour you'll have to be ready to be dodging potholes like dodging bullets pretty sad that the road network is in such a sorry state more cars bring more traffic jams and traffic is congested for the most part of the date except for the weekends Vladivostok reminds you of San Francisco that's what everybody says it's Healy and it's windy and that was the impression of Nikita Khrushchev as well when he visited the city in 1959 returning from his us trip mesmerized by the American San Francisco he initiated a plan to build a Soviet San Francisco shortly after the big flight of awestruck project was on the way in May 1962 the first funicula was opened today there are only two funiculus in Russia one in the city of Sochi and the other in Vladivostok that funicula instantly became a popular tourist attraction despite his short length of just 183 metres and the whole ride be in just 1 minute and 30 seconds tourism has now become a major part of the city's economy with over 3 million tourists visit in the city in 2017 700,000 of them were foreign tourists 90% of which came from China Japan and South Korea in fact when I arrived and I was walking to my hotel with my luggage everybody that I saw on the streets was Asian Hey what's her name lucky nice to meet you where do you come from Pro is about open Japan yeah okay is this your first time in let Eva stop it last time okay and how do you like it so far yeah it's amazing amazing yeah the breeze I hope it's the name but it's very good to go okay yeah what did you like about the city Georgia foodies Alicia okay yeah the restaurant oh the restaurant yeah those are nested on Georgian restaurant yeah that's very good Polonia here for how many days holding four days yeah tomorrow we have to go back get back ok yeah ok you guys enjoy this thing yeah you do thank you I felt like I was overseas also Vladivostok is the terminus of the trans-siberian railroad so it gets plenty of tourists from there while Nikita Khrushchev failed to turn Vladivostok into San Francisco the new ladder Vostok starts in 2012 when leaders from the APEC member countries met on the Russky Island or Russian island as the result of the preparation for the summit Vladivostok got his International Airport renovated also three new bridges and new campus for the far eastern Federal University or constructed actually those were not your average bridges there now the landmark of the city totally amazing let's take a look at each one of them the Russian bridge it's a cable-stayed bridge that connects the Russian island and the more view of a more ski peninsula parts of the city across the eastern phosphorus trade it is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world with a total length of over 3 kilometers did you know that the Russian breach is also the third tallest bridge by structural height at 320 meters [Music] another bridge is the Golden Bridge it is also a cable-stayed bridge Kosta zolotoy rogue or Golden Horn be built in that same year just before the 2012 APEC summit before the bridge was built the time it took to travel around Golden Horn Bay was about an hour and half so it's crazy that Russia had to wait for the APEC summit to build those bridges clearly create the positive image in the eyes of foreign powers has always been a more important task for Moscow you want to get post card like pictures of the Golden Bridge you got to go to Eagle Nest Hill in Russian it's cold Arleen the igneous door hello you know I have a couple of questions for you I see a lot of Chinese people and Vladivostok is it a popular destination for the Chinese most of young people obviously taking joins ace so I like taking pictures you mean like Instagram and stuff we do oh okay so that's what brings them over here this it but that's not all like the Russian saying goes God laughs things that come in threes they also built another impressive bridge nice Givaudan e or low hanging over water bridge it's a bridge over a more straight it's a four lane 4.3 kilometer long bridge actually the fifth longest bridge in Russia so just think about it the locals had desperately waited for these bridges for over a hundred years and now they received them all at once imagine how flabbergasted that must have been I know I would while the bridges today are the major sights of the city the city has a lot more to offer let's start with a central square with a couple of monuments and a magnificent Church one of the monuments pays tribute to Soviet fighters that put an end to monarchy in 1917 in my view this place is nothing special always crowded with tourists and it's clearly liking something to make it a memorable place a walking distance from this place you can find a submarine s56 turned into a museum you can go inside of the submarine and touch it's heroic past the interior of the submarine central and bulk compartments is preserved in the original forum sea passenger terminal and railroad terminal are standing side by side at the time of my visit a cruise liner spectrum of the Seas the largest cruise liner that ever visited Russia was parked here it's enormous and it's obviously a big step in the development of tourism for Vladivostok another fascinating location is the old Vladivostok fortress let's protect our fortress a complex of unique fortifications one of the most powerful coastal fortresses in the world in fact fortifications are scattered over a vast territory in the city and you can stumble upon fortifications just about anywhere the construction of the fortress started in the late 19th century after the fall of Port Arthur during the Russian Japanese war of 1904-1905 the Vladivostok defense fortifications had to be dramatically improved I found it funny seeing modern-day Japanese tourists exploring Russian weapons that were built to fight their country a hundred and twenty years ago but looking at this now it seems like all wars eventually become just a page in the history book Wow I think they've figured out how to use them guys were in trouble there's a number of wonderful prominence along the coast full of tourists and street musicians and good-looking girls and guys as elsewhere in Russia the most popular one is the spartina knob it is man which means athletic promenade decades ago it was the place of the public baths the waters of the Amur Bay were believed to have high salt concentration and therefore were good for your health let's take a walk and see what it feels like [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] another popular spot for walking is nvidia tesla division that was opened in 2012 it's a good place for walks and rolla skaters in vladivostok you can see the Russian ballet good acoustics and atmosphere the State Academic Mariinsky theater has modern architectural design with spacious interiors making it a magical and breathtaking experience to witness and feel the Opera House the arsenie of primordia museum founded in 1884 is worth look to get a feel for the local history of different groups of people that lived in and around the region finally the Russian island is now accessible for everyone to visit it's a beautiful island with great views and I highly recommend you get a taxi or rent a car and drive around the island to explore it depending on the time there's various activities to do you can rent a boat for a reasonable price to explore the surrounding areas or go diving or snorkeling there's also the far eastern Federal University with a wonderful and enormous campus super-modern the University campus occupies 54 hectares 133 acres and right next to it is another popular prominent University Ithaca naba - Lana a nice park with numerous walking trails waterfalls and ponds as well as many sports facilities I was impressed to be honest tennis courts and football fields and everybody can come here not just the students you can play tennis you can do all sorts of sports man I wish I were a student over here the Vladivostok oceanarium or aquarium it features over 100 species of marine life spread out over three separate halls but look at the place and how well-kept it is you can rent bikes and explore the area I find it to be absolutely lovely and one of the most popular places on the Russian island is to Bizen Cape you'll have to drive all the way to the end of the island and then take the gravel road it's actually pretty hard to get to so drive carefully especially in a rental car but once you reach the parking lot then you're out for a 40-minute walk to the destination this Cape is really a must visit place of Vladivostok great nature and picturesque views there's even a zipline which I honestly wouldn't recommend don't give up a little if you're lucky enough you'll find some wild foxes in the forest I think if I lived in Lodi vostok I'd be coming to the Russian island every weekend okay back to the city there's this place of the city called million K it's an area consistent of red brick buildings arcs and balconies built at the end of the 19th century in the very heart of the historical light of our stock the old mill Janka was a busy in a creepy place with brothels gambling houses and opium dens crime-ridden area controlled by Chinese gangs in 1936 NKVD equivalent of KGB put an end to that send in all the Chinese gangs back home during one of its raids nowadays it's a place with lots of cafes and bars art galleries and walls with graffiti that attract many people when it comes to weather Lada Vostok has a man soon influenced humid continental climate with warm humid and rainy summers and cold dry winters because of the influence of the Siberian high winters are far colder than you would expect from its 43rd degree northern latitude which is the same as Sochi and an average January temperature of minus 12 will remind you that you're still in Russia the warmest month surprisingly is August with an average temperature of almost 20 Celsius and the best time to visit is July through October [Music] why as Lida Vostok a great place to live first the food you like seafood they have it well you can have it in many restaurants throughout the city one of the best restaurants is considered Zuma where you can try as callebs far-eastern crabs and oysters some other popular restaurants include supra which is Georgian cuisine learned that there's always a line in front of the restaurant so you got to take a number my favorite breakfast spot was Michelle cafe it's a chain restaurant so there's many locations malakal and Med meaning milk and honey is another good central location serving Russian cuisine another wonderful thing about living in Vladivostok is the nature and the sea incredible nature is all around you sometimes it's really hard to get to I didn't get a chance to explore everything obviously because some places you need a well-equipped 4x4 it to get to but let's take a look at some of the places that I visited one of the most popular beaches not far from the city is camera or lazuli Bay about 30 kilometers from the city there's everything here for your summer vacation supermarkets cafes and restaurants children playgrounds and sports equipment rentals and met some cool guys here one of them is for friends he couldn't speak a word of Russian or English [Music] he knows Eliza emotional marginalized emotion Arijit electronically soy or chin he broke the spoken ideals Aryabhatta a Muslim prayer most of reproducibility Kevin is the score is to go seriously I pity this abyss mystical head of unfortunately this great beach was very polluted with garbage and that was the first thing that the locals asked me to mention in the video so they should never know my dude is no athlete but look at that yeah sorry loser mom let's see what CS here okay could I see yellow restoring lost answers justness escalating here look look is they either one look I splash knows no previous tip buddy other pasta another him train each vehicle is a pleasure some of us easiest after Little Italy I see so there are another popular destination is the agar shelf lighthouse sometimes also called Tokarev ski founded in 1876 the agar shelf lighthouse is among the oldest lighthouses and far east this is where the land ends and the Pacific Ocean begins in the early spring people come here to look at spotted seals which come very close to the shore and search for fish and open water during high winds it's a popular wind surfing spot if you have time a highly recommend making a pit stop at octopus cafe located just a few hundred meters before the parking lots of lighthouse another popular place around the city is an art park called degorski upon's and it's not exactly your ordinary recreation spot it has a huge territory lots of benches hammocks and swings you can ran a log cabin of course you can cook your own barbecue or shashlik whatever you prefer it's places like this that make light of aw stock a wonderful place to live and I'm talking about the options you have when you want to go outside of the city and spend some time in the nature and about a ten minute drive from this place is the famous Safari Park it's a great place to see tigers and bears and deer and elk and leopards in their natural habitats know cramped cages no suffering animals instead what you're going to see is spacious facilities keeping amazing animals in their natural environment many of these animals were rescued and are now kept in very good conditions just a hundred and fifty years ago these Far Eastern Tigers that are now on the brink of extinction were the kings of these lands occupied territory all the way to Seoul South Korea being so close to Asia the city gets a lot of direct investments one of the best hotels in the city is Lotte Hotel and Resort and Lotte of course is a South Korean corporation local food scene is of course under the influence of many Asian countries like a local favorite is called Panza no other major Russian city will offer you this it's a russian version of korean steamed pie stuffed with cabbage ground meat and peppers when it comes to beverages a local favorite is milk ease pincer milkis like Osama what SecureAuth hooker it's a soft drink produced by latte again that same South Korean company carbonated water with milk to give it a creamy taste you gotta try it because it really tastes good Vladivostok also has direct flights with many Asian destinations like soul Taipei Tokyo and others now is my favorite part of the video let's talk to the locals let's have some small talk conversations still nice all stuck it's Tuesday what if I got just a full chance more even these capacitors copilot is watching because to be mr. Heston operator come here would yes you will pack a little good diet because with smooth and rich idealistic or other the course will be my master of Ngati Porou be monopolized yes what my Libyan ruski was tracking reo my videos know you yeah it's a video each other must be what smart really crazy we hope she your cousin osterlich receive a would be washable do spoke British a circle with your stuff don't watch appreciative good snippet relative salaries here are higher than in many other Russian cities but so are the prices this includes gas groceries housing and pretty much everything else you will not get a hostel for a price lower than 50 bucks and you will not get a decent hotel room for a price of less than $100 so it's a very pricey actually here and remoteness from the rest of Russia makes logistics a problem you know in the retail to make 25 30 thousand rubles a month which is just basic survival level and okay salary is considered to be about 50 K which is a little less than a thousand dollars and good salary is considered to be 100 thousand and more which is one point six thousand dollars and more you know I've learned that some positions at the Seaport they pay pretty well anywhere from 100 to 200 rubles which is a 1.6 thousand dollars to about three thousand dollars and many locals choose to go to work in South Korea where they work in the sea or in the fields making about two three thousand dollars a month you know it's all about hustling I've seen local guys catching and selling oysters to Asian tourists making 100 200 bucks a day thousand is also really expensive price per square meter in the city center is one hundred and twenty four thousand rubles and monthly rental for one-room apartment is comparable to Moscow and strangely enough they don't seem to be building a lot of new housing like they do in other Russian cities for some reason to give you more price examples one liter of milk is about eighty rubles which is like 1.2 dollars by Russian standards this is kind of pricey what are the downsides of living in the Far East in latter Vostok while the seafood is available not many people can actually afford it and the majority of those huge Far Eastern crabs are exported to Japan rather than sold locally my biggest disappointment though was that many beaches are polluted just flooded with garbage and you can find garbage piles everywhere and many residents of Vladivostok told me that they feel bad because all the foreign guests can see that let's talk to these wonderful people cleaning up the entrance path versum all cursed the bus well yes not business as soon as guests at my border this conditional stigma was a toast oh no cigarettes Kiyomasa you could unload it more respecting gumenyuk the duty Shapiro would report of the business prudence operating no slacking what peseta emil attack kikuno news messages read prudence apology elemental as much it's a more primitive no prostitution eternal go first I did page Pfister could the continue of cheese cut or a newsie possibly loser yes mr. is built it another Akita so my family Maggie if the chemo blossom so can you get to curse up to Assam iguana did so Garuda what he was talkin so that pilots at TCG Luigi cutaway pas it him couch a moose ARA Pacis pellet pistol in a National Guard a administers Gordon was a possible to not study Kotori she shared Novgorod hero starts of the community but she was rushed to video it would that you want some more points to complain about NORC no car sharing so far driving in the city is a pain not enough parking on the city streets pedestrians are clearly not a priority look at this sidewalk do you think this is a sidewalk or not well I've seen foreign tourists standing there puzzled and lost not knowing if they should keep walking or the sidewalk has ended look at me walk in there they followed me the city has a casino crystal tiger with more than 250 gaming machines and 50 gaming tables and it's the first and only area in the Russian Far East where he can gamble Vladivostok is Russia's gate to Asia and at the same time it's the closest European city for our Asian neighbors lots of international events happening Vladivostok exceeded my expectations I was expecting a rundown city with people that can't wait to get away and move to the central part of Russia and is that what I saw no I saw a city live in its own life blessed with perfect location on the Pacific coast and growing tourism flow from the Asian countries Vladivostok has so much potential but it feels like it's under managed and not properly maintained but I hope that will change in the future thanks for watching guys and stay tuned [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you
