hey what's this doing in here I've got some good things to say I've got some bad things to say but first why buy one of those expensive Apple cases this is a husky case customizable foam inserts I bought it at Home Depot for 25 bucks and it's going to keep this thing safe and I don't have to worry and the best [Music] part it's fine I'm going to kick things off with a bad this is why Apple doesn't send me stuff the number one bad thing is this this is one of the reasons why Wireless airpods are actually better I hate carrying this thing around and I have snagged it on a few things already I've also dropped this battery because I started walking away and uh it was left on my desk but this is aluminum it's not going to break well not easily next this I like coffee and I like my mug but I can't use my favorite mug with this thing on even that that's not comfortable eating drinking forget about it unless you're drinking water through a straw or something next let's take a look at pass through yes it is better than the quest it is probably the best thing out there right now but it has issues regular camera issues that right there are LEDs and the synchronization between the cameras and the LEDs is not working so well hopefully you can tell that in the video annoying but not terrible much worse is what happens if you're not in a bright ass room like I am right now this is not how I typically work here this is how I make videos I typically work like this not even this light not even that light but we'll keep that on so you can see me I'm seeing a lot of blurriness this is pretty understandable cuz we're dealing with cameras but the low light performance on this thing is pretty bad if I start moving my head everything gets really blurry and I get dizzy one last gripe I want to mention with this thing before we get to the goodies I was trying to fold laundry yesterday while watching a YouTube video every time I was folding a piece of laundry The Vision Pro kept stopping the video or scrolling the screen even though I was not looking at the screen I was looking at my laundry that's something that they can probably address and it needs to be addressed cuz that is annoying I find myself tapping buttons accidentally all the time like right now whenever my fingers are together and I'm looking at something there's this little Green Dot that's the pull down menu the context menu and if I'm accidentally looking even in the vicinity of that it's going to tap that's the bad stuff luckily that's not related to work and work is one of the two possible scenarios for this device the other one being entertainment I'm not covering that here entertainment is amazing on this thing I watched YouTube I watched a couple of videos nope not not that not that don't even comment that I meant movies on Apple TV entertainment is great and work is another thing that I've done for the last couple days on this thing I've tried it progressively more and more each day the first they was super uncomfortable I had to take these things off and yesterday I was able to sit in these things for 3 hours and it was okay there is an adjustment period but let's get into it my first development experience was a couple days ago and I was pretty Blown Away by it where's my project there's a couple of small snags I hid initially but that's typical with iOS development once you get past all the provisioning stuff and hooking up and pairing your device everything is good the only difference here is that I needed to pair wirelessly so you need to be on the same network or you need to get one of those develop straps which is just going to be replacing this little part right here it's $300 and it's going to be useful for those projects that are going to have a lot of assets a lot of assets to transfer back and forth now today I'm sitting here in front of my laptop I have uh let's see 41 lines here in this file but this is not comfortable I could use my screen here like this and then pull up um something not music and pull up um an app for example let's say I'm looking at my CPU usage on the device how much charge I have left I want to keep an eye on the load because that's interesting to me to see how much of the CPU is used this is an M2 Chip in here and it's using up quite a bit just sitting there I could have some apps like Safari and other apps beside me here while coding but that's not super comfortable now usually when I look at my MacBook it's recognized and there's a little connect button that appears here but that's not the case and there is a way around that I'm going to show you that momentarily let's first open up display settings so we see what's available there is my LG 4K display here that I'm using vertically and my built-in display what you do is on the Vision Pro itself you go to the context menu you go here and then there's this button right there Mac virtual display and you tap that and connect to my Mac and now my Mac screen is going to be virtual notice I lost both my vertical display my 4K display and I'm I'm losing my macbook's display itself as well all in favor of this one big display how big is it well let's take a look here is my vs code window the exact same size that it was on my MacBook screen we have lines 1 through 4041 just like we did before and the text here is much clearer than it was looking through the Vision Pro but it's not as clear as it is looking directly with your eyes at the MacBook screen however this gives us a lot more space to work with I can have multiple vs code windows open and I can stretch this out to have a longer view of it so now we've got lines 1 through 56 I can do command minus and fit even more things on it let's see what I can tolerate this is not tolerable so it's 100 lines of code but it's not tolerable because the text is so grainy at this point this is okay but really I'm comfortable over here so this is about the same resolution where I was I'm judging by Comfort level level it could be different based on the person now going back to display settings there's a couple of other things we can do here you'll see that we're now connected to Vision Pro as my display and the default resolution is 2560 X 1440 and I can show more resolutions here let's take a look at this 1920 x 1080 view so everything is even sharper now but you have less space and this is still more space than you get by default on the MacBook depends on your scaling of course based on my scaling this is still more space now we can go all the way up to 5120 x 2880 which is a 5K resolution yeah we have a lot more space now I can fit a ton of code and browsers and everything right here on the screen and I can move this back a little bit now what I like to do is I've discovered this yesterday instead of seeing this big mess when I'm working cuz this is messy I like to do the immersion so I'm immersed more into an environment like this desert scene this is Joshua tree and it's a beautiful sun sunrise I think it is it's got to be a sunrise maybe Sunset I don't know but I don't go all the way because if I go all the way sure it's nice I can look all around me and it's beautiful and it's clear and I've worked like this for a couple hours yesterday I can even hear the sound of the wind it just like puts you in this environment where you're not sitting at your desk in a windowless office it just feels really nice working out here but uh I also don't see my keyboard which is a problem so I like to it back a little bit just enough so I can see my keyboard my trackpad and my mouse and still be able to see this I can position this a little bit further away from me so I can see the Horizon there we go now this resolution is way way too small for me it's not comfortable so I'm going to go back to my Default Resolution right here and this is doable so 2560 X 1440 the default it's a default for a reason I guess this this is a pretty comfortable resolution for me I kind of like this the issue that I find sometimes is the Paradigm between using this window and using the native windows that come with vision OS here I'm interacting with the windows by dragging them by looking and tapping like this but over here this is my screen mirrored from my laptop so I can't interact with it I can move the window back and forth and I can close the window but I sometimes just want to interact with the windows inside this window and I can't do that so I have to switch to either my trackpad or my mouse although if you really wanted to interact with a Macbook mirrored screen using the vision controls I found an interesting way to do it it's not the most convenient but you can do it here I've got my MacBook mirror screen and over there I have a VNC player it's an app that I connected to my MacBook whatever I show on one screen is mirrored to the other one but here on the bottom one I'm using only my mouse and I can't use my touch gestures but on the top one I can look at what I'm trying to tap on like for example I'm trying to change the tab and there we go I can actually do it now I'm going to select my code window there let's see if I can drag this window sort of sort of it's a little wacky a little choppy but if you really wanted to you could do it that way one other thing you can do with VNC is if you have another Mac or a Windows machine you can connect it and then you'll be able to see both your mirrored machine and your connected machine at the same time it's not the most convenient thing to scroll but if you had something up there that you wanted to read on another computer while you're working at the same time on your computer your local one then yeah you can do it that way now I also did try to connect to my Windows machine here uh unfortunately I'm having some issues it's probably not the remote desktop client problem but it's probably my configuration problem this connection to my Mini PC which is this machine sitting right on my desk works just fine if I'm using a remote desktop client on my Mac there we go but this is the remote desktop client by Microsoft this one is called RDP light it's an iPad app so maybe that has something to do with it I'm going to leave it there now you might be wondering what happens if I close the lid of my MacBook and try using something like this let's see nothing my MacBook is closed but it's still on and I'm connected to it now I have this keyboard it's paired to my laptop but let's say I want to be disconnected completely and use the Vision Pro without the laptop so let's close this out now I'm disconnected from my laptop and I want to see can I use it just for these going to pull up settings Bluetooth and I'm going to turn off the keyboard turn it back on and see if it shows up here there it is it's connected let's go to Safari and I don't want to use this keyboard yeah wow that's working pretty well this is an Apple keyboard but you can probably use other Bluetooth keyboards too my killer feature for me personally is going to be the notes app cuz that's my favorite note taking app I can just take this somewhere turn up my environment so I'm just not bothered by anybody I can dictate using my voice but that usually doesn't work so well and I end up fighting with Siri hey it worked pretty well this time see now it's missing a period and now I'm typing all the stuff I'm saying is that's commenting this thing along with my keyboard I have this virtual little field that follows my keyboard around that is kind of cool um it gives me the ability to extend my keyboard say I want emojis here and this just an easy way to add freaking emojis to my text there we go how would drawing be here it's not bad it's hard to draw when there's nothing stopping your finger but it's something I imagine the desktop use case would be really good for this cuz then you can just pick up your Vision Pro leave your desktop where it is grab the keyboard go to the next room and suddenly you're mobile what what about coding without bringing your desktop or laptop at all yes this is definitely possible if you forget about being self-conscious for a bit I tried this out but I couldn't exactly bring myself to being fully immersive I wanted to keep an eye out on things in my real environment I didn't bring my laptop just a keyboard and I was able to work on code hosted on GitHub since vs C.D Works entirely in the browser this is possible I've been doing mobile development with Native script for a while which lets me write native mobile apps using JavaScript and exciting thing is I was able to run a native script app in Vision Pro but taking it this far feels a bit forced and unnatural and I had the same kind of problem as when I was folding laundry where I'd keep skipping to a line because Vision Pro registered my fingers as Taps even though they weren't so when I'm out and about I would much rather have my laptop with me if I want to take a break or if I want to stop for the day all I do is just take this off it disconnects I leave hopefully remembering to take the battery out of my pocket so I don't drag this thing all over the place have my coffee which is cold by now and I don't turn this off I haven't turned this off for a few days it's just like my MacBook I leave it on it goes to sleep it does what it does and then I come back I pop this thing back on it takes let's see one two it's it's there it's already showing me pass through and now it's in my environment it doesn't reconnect automatically now my app is still open the native app but it does not automatically reconnect to my real computer screen so it's a pretty fast experience it could be faster but it's FAS enough some final thoughts here the tech is really cool and if you don't buy one just go to the Apple Store and at least try one on so that you at least are aware of what's out there I'm sure by now you've heard that this is going to be the worst the Apple Vision Pro is going to be but what's not being said is that it's possible that this is the best that's ever going to be too developers that hop on that early train can reap the rewards if it takes off but they're also taking on a great risk and I'm not talking about just the price tag of the device I'm talking about the the long hours you'll put into building for the platform now if Apple does continue to V2 I'd like to see multiple screen support better cameras more connectivity options like a fully capable USB C Port that would be nice not just via a developer add-on I'm also pretty stoked that web developers will be able to build for Vision Pro in JavaScript using native script I've played around with the demo so far and it's going to enable a lot of use cases got to give it to the native script team for pushing the preview app to the vision store so quickly what are your thoughts on the potential of this device as I like to think of it as a developer unit let me know Down Below in the comments I read those and if you want to watch my previous web speed test on the Vision Pro you can check that out right here thanks for watching and I'll see you [Applause] [Music] soon
