Hello guys, welcome to another episode of TwoSet Violin. Today, the xuesheng (student) has become the laoshi (teacher). We're switching around today, Zach and Syakirah are going to be teaching us some singing. And we have a new face here today. I'm playing the piano. - Yes, because my song... - Ahh... - ...for once, it's a song. - It's a song, it's not a piece! - Is our song good? - Oh, our song is definitely not piano required. It's definitely something that I think y'all will know and y'all will enjoy. I hope I enjoy it. You will. Anything I do is enjoyable. So we're gonna try and learn the... - (Brett) ...songs, I almost said pieces. - (Eddy) Yeah. - What do you think? 10 minutes? - How long do we have? 10 minutes each? - (Syakirah) 10 minutes? - (Zach) Sure, yeah... That's shooting for the stars. Okay, so let's learn it in 10 minutes each. And this time, I'm going first, 'cause everyone in the comments was like, - Yeah, that's right. - "Eddy's cheating by going second all the time." Yeah, he's always cheating! My laoshi (teacher) is better than your laoshi. - Yes, that's right! - Oh, nah, nah, nah, nah... We're the winner's circle! (Zach and Eddy) Winner's circle! We're not doing winner's circle. - (Zach) Yes we are! - (Syakirah) We're not. - I feel like an old dad trying to be like a young, relatable... - Yeah. - ...Gen Z, right now. - I'm like, "Hang on, - let me just get in sync with the world right now." - (Zach) Actually... Oh you brought music, do we have music? Nah, you don't, 'cause it's pop. How do I memorise the lyrics? (Brett, Eddy and Zach) Ahh...! Foreshadowing, Brett has to sing pop music. We need to do fundamentals first. I don't even know what... (Brett) I feel like... Alright, so today we'll be doing Mendelssohn's "Ich wollt' meine Lieb' ergösse sich". Is that German? - Yeah...! Mendelssohn! - Nah, I can't speak German. - Okay, you can do it. - Oh man, oh no! I'll teach you, I'll teach you. It's a love piece, it's a love duet, so you have to emote. Ohh, is this for Edwina? (Syakirah) You have to love me! The sexual tension. (Brett) 3, 2, 1, start. - Oh, what?! Okay. - Okay, so, fundamentals. You want to have a stable base, stable foundation. Yeah, good, good, good. And then, what— I would like you to think of the Eiffel Tower, you know, just having a really deep and strong foundation, yes. Oh my god, ew...disgusting. And then... You got a nice stable position, your chest is open, yeah, you gotta show...show the goods... Show the...show the girls. Don't be so tense, yeah, okay. Your breathing is already very wrong. It's too high, - Alright. - what you want to do is have deep, stable breathing. - (Zach) If you... - I'll fall asleep doing that. Hold on to my back, and then hold on here. Oh. Okay. You see, how...it's like, my shoulders aren't raising up, yes, yes. Yeah, yeah, so imagine it's like a pump, you know. I ate too much ramen. - F***. - (Brett) Yeah, I think I'm filled with ramen. Then just imagine you go even deeper, like pelvis region, and then as you're doing it, you're just expanding, you're floating on the water, just...yeah, you're already much better. (Brett) 8 minutes! - Okay. - What? Okay, so now... - Let's...tackle the lyrics. - Alright. Ich liebe dich. Let's make smart goals, yeah, - let's make attainable goals. - Alright. - Let's do until...let's do until second page. - Smart! Oh, nothing about you. Not that, not you. So, repeat after me. (Zach and Eddy) Ich wollt', (Zach and Eddy) meine Lieb', (Zach and Eddy) ergösse sich. So "ergösse", like, "to burst", you know, so my... "I wanted my love to burst". (Zach and Eddy) All in ein einzig Wort. Genau (Exactly)! (Zach and Eddy) Das gäb, (Zach and Eddy) ich den luft’gen Winden. (Zach and Eddy) Luft’gen. Yeah! - Yeah, you're doing really good. Winden... - Dude, I can't memorise this. - But you don't have to. - Alright, okay. (Zach and Eddy) Die trügen, - Yeah, es lustig fort. - es lustig fort. You don't have to be so... You don't have to sound like a villain. I'm just breathing through my like... - Yeah, it's just...oh, okay, yeah yeah yeah, - I'm not used to it, alright? - that's good, that's good. - It's changing my voice. What does "lustig fort" mean? Something about funny...wait, I cannot look at the fans... - Wait, what?! - ...and say "I don't know my German lyrics"... (Syakirah) Exposed! (Brett) 5 minutes! - (Eddy) Oh, s***! - (Zach) "Fort" means like, to go away, yeah? - (Syakirah) Not so smart now, are you? - Go away. - You want to sing your line first? - You're taking the lower one. - Okay. - So, you have the Mi... - ♪ Ich... ♪ Yeah? No tension here, no tension. Just relax, just rela...relax. Uh, good, good, good. And think of everything like, - it's like a column, it's empty, - (Syakirah) I feel so bad. - everything's resonating here. - Okay. I lost my pitch. Ahh!!! I'm under pressure! Yeah? Are you sure? (Zach) Okay, let's stop there. How are you feeling? Tired. Really? - My throat hurts, my cheek hurts. - Okay, maybe it's too high, - so, instead of thinking of pushing here, - Okay. I want you to think of the sound as if it's... ...ringing out and about. - So, you know how...can you see that? - Uh-huh. This is where I'm kind of like directing it. So that's called the soft palate, we do a lot of exercises to help raise that, and then that would lead the sound out. Let me know if I'm getting the right sound, 'cause I don't know. Tempo! Ohh...oh no, that chromatic messes me up. Let's try and read him... - You...what tempo do you wanna set? - (Vernis) Read? This is so... - What tempo do you wanna set? - (Vernis) Yeah, what... (Syakirah) We're going to shoot for the moon. Okay! - Okay! - Dude, you sound so good! - (Brett) Ooh! - Okay! Can you... - You sound so good! - Not bad! - (Brett) Ooh! Can you amplify his line? What do you mean by that?! Alright! - Yeah. - (Syakirah) You have 10 what? (Brett) 10 seconds. (Syakirah) 10 seconds. Okay! - Not bad! That's really not bad! - (Brett) Nice! - Oh wow, thank you. - (Syakirah) Yeah. This is good, this is positive reinforcement. - Good job, good job, good job. Yeah! - Thank you, thank you. - (Brett) Nice! - I hope you fail. - (Brett) Alright, guys. - Because like, you have to do choreography. - Oh really? - (Brett) Yeah. - I'm the backup, so you just... - I can't... Now here comes the real thing. Yeah, here comes the real deal. So today, we're gonna be doing um... - ...something funner than the Mendel... - Mm-hmm. So today we're gonna be doing a song that everyone knows and loves. Everyone in this century, anyway. And it's "Rain On Me" by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande! So it's one of my favorite singers of all time, so obviously you're going to be Lady Gaga. (Syakirah) So... I mean, he's already got the aesthetic going on, I mean, look at that, look at that. Everybody, get your TwoSet Apparel! We don't do all those fundamental things, I mean, you should already be able to sing, (Syakirah) you know what I mean? What does Zach say? Okay. We don't cross studios here, we only... no no no. It's our studio against their studio. - Okay? - Okay. We're just gonna play the track. - I don't know the lyrics, what do I do? - (Eddy) Ready? You listen first, okay? - (Eddy) 3, 2, 1, start. - Oh my god. - Yeah. - My part? - Yeah. Pre-chorus! - Yeah. - Free...free chorus? - Pre-chorus. Pre-chorus. Alright, this is the chorus, okay you have the get the chorus, okay? Here. It's so high! - Okay, you have to do this. - Okay. (Syakirah and Brett) Rain, on, me. Rain on me. - So those...those are the key parts, alright, okay. - Yeah, I can do that, I can do that, I can do that. - Okay. - But that high part, is that you or me? No, that's you. Okay, pull up your lyrics, - from your phone. Alright, alright, alright. - Oh, yeah, I need my lyrics, I need my lyrics. We always— (Zach) Yeah! - Yeah, you're—you got it! You got the first part! - Okay. Okay. - And do I do this as well? - Yeah, so you remember the... Yeah. So you remember the...the pitch, okay? - So let's go through the verse, okay? - Wait what? 5, 6, 7, and! What?! Where are we going from?! Where, where?! Cry, you know what I mean? Me?!?! Oh, dude. - So if all else fails... - Do you get dizzy hitting those high notes? No. It's called "being able to sing". (Syakirah) So... So just think of it like... (Zach) Oh yeah! Access it! Access that. Like... Like a dog panting. Yeah! That's it! (Eddy) 5 minutes 40 seconds. - Oh that's—right, alright, we have time. - We have 5 minutes! Okay, okay, okay. - (Zach) Do not win! - We're gonna drill this part until we get it right! - Okay. I can feel that ramen coming up. Okay, this part— (Brett and Syakirah) Rain, on, me. Yes!!! Okay, that is so dope. My throat... - Okay, okay. - ...it's gone. So do you want to add some choreography to this? - Yeah, let's do it, let's do it. - (Zach) Yes!!! - Oh, you're—he's so down to it. - The student becomes the teacher! - Let's go. Yes. My laoshi (teacher) is better than your laoshi! - Okay, we're going to do some basic choreography, so... - Okay. Like that. No, I don't want to jump. No, because that will affect his breathing. Yeah, that's really important! (Zach) Now you care about breathing! My breathing is important! Or we could do instead of this, we could do like rain, on, me! - (Zach) Oh yeah you should do that! - Okay. (Brett and Syakirah) Rain, on, me. No, that's fine. (Zach) Whoa, okay, okay! Sure, sure. Are we shaking my bum as well? - No, not like that, sweetie, not like that. - Oh, okay, okay. Just like, a little like shake like that, - more to like the right, do you know what I mean? - Uh, yeah. And you gotta look like super like, into the camera, you know, music video style, you know what I mean? - And then rain, on, me. - Rain, on, me. Yeah, because you know it's like salvation, the song is ending, so, yeah. We're only done with half the song. - That's half?! - (Syakirah) Alright. - How much time do we have left? - (Eddy) 2 minutes. - You want to try the song from the beginning? - Yeah, but which part are you singing? I'm singing the Ariana Grande part, so it's the second verse. - Oh, I just sing by myself, and then you sing then. - (Syakirah and Zach) Yeah. - Oh s***! - When the chorus... - So... - Oh, no!!! - You got Zach to sing with you! - (Eddy) Yes!!! I mean, you're gonna be fine, - all my students are excelling students. - Ohh... Ohh anxiety! Alright, don't forget the choreography, because if you do, then I'll have to drop you. - Yeah, then I'll have to kick you out, like... - Alright, I didn't... - (Zach) We didn't ask... - That's a start! You don't have to copy me, get your own style! (Zach) Okay! No, you know what, you know what, superstars are always fashionably late anyway. - Yeah, that's right. - (Syakirah) So, it's fine. What's the stage floor, is it like... So do you want to like be on your own first? - And then I'll come in. - Okay, okay. - Give me like when to come in, just in case. - (Syakirah) Okay. (Syakirah) You gotta be front and center. Oh, so I gotta move back and forth and stuff like that. Nah, I don't [wanna] see myself. (Syakirah) So after the... - I don't need to see myself. - (Syakirah) So... (Syakirah) We're gonna only go up until the second chorus. And then what do I do, do I just stop there? (Syakirah) You'll figure it out, okay. (Syakirah) I'm throwing him in the deep end right now, okay. - (Syakirah) 5, 6! - No!!! (Syakirah) 5, 6, 7, and! Can I do it again, sorry! I got my pitch wrong! Oh, singer's pain, you gotta get the pitch. - (Zach) Yeah, bro! - (Syakirah) If you don't have pitch, you have nothing! - (Syakirah) Don't let me down. - (Zach) Dude, we don't touch anything! (Syakirah) Okay, now wait for the music, babe. Oh, s***. (Syakirah) 5, 6, 7, go! (Syakirah) Come down! (Syakirah) Pose, end pose! (Syakirah) Oh my god, you're doing so good! - Okay, this is my turn. - Okay, okay. Bye-bye, everyone. - No, you're supposed to stay in, we have one more chorus! - Oh...oh really? Okay. What?! Okay! Yeah!!! Oh my god, we were so good. - Yes. - You know, if Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga ever need... (Brett) Yes, yes. I'm so in. I totally would've made it, I... I think...I think maybe just... - ...one more rehearsal to polish things up, - Yeah, yeah. - it would have been great to go. - Yeah, yeah. That was my first time singing a pop song. I'm not even joking. - Laoshi is proud today. - (Brett) Yes. Who? (Zach) What the hell?! Sorry, when I'm in front of the camera, only me. Hi everybody, thank you so much for watching, okay. Yeah, I'm just pre-empting, - um, my little budding star Brett's career in pop music. - Excuse me, can you not leave... ...him, - (Zach) out of the picture. - (Syakirah) You have a budding career in... - (Eddy) I'm a backup dancer... In Mendelssohn... And who's timeless? - Aha! - (Brett and Eddy) Ohhhh!!!!!! (Eddy) Shots fired!!! Excuse me! Yeah, excuse me! - You're excused, both of you all are excused. - We... - Don't rain on our parade. - (Brett) Yeah. So, uh, that was fun, we really enjoyed teaching the boys how to sing song, so, yeah, uh, do... - (Zach) Smash that like button!!! - (Brett) Yeah, yeah, that's...! - (Brett) Accent, accent... - (Eddy) Yeah, go on, smash...! - (Syakirah) Don't...don't forget to like and subscribe, and... - (Zach) Subscribe! - (Brett) Yes! - Let us know who did the better job. - Oh yes. - (Brett and Eddy) Ohhhhh!!!! - (Zach) I'm... Are you sure you want to ask that question? (Zach) No... - No competition. - If I wasn't sure, I wouldn't be asking. Ohhhh!!!! Yesssss!!! - I'm so proud of us! - Thank you!
