I will show you the next thing which is Nintendo prototype pack Luigi blood who got the 64dd stuff up and running sent me a pack of games that are very interesting and this is like a bunch of different things that were released some of which warrant and I have a lot of informations all the informations on each of them so I'm going to read and give you history consider this like a companion piece to the half-life 2 beta stuff from last week it seemed like a good idea and so let's check them out okay let me get the thing up and running in just a second here and what I need to tell you is that the first game we're gonna look at is dr. Mario it says here for some reason we have many prototypes of dr. Mario for NES interestingly called virus instead it gives off a certain idea of the game's development I suggest you try the 1990 version first okay it's a it's called virus and then I never stream again because my computer just explodes but don't worry about it I'm sure it's gonna be fine all right so anyway as I was saying this is the Nintendo prototype pack and this game is the original version of dr. Mario it was originally called virus and it works okay so there's fall down on or off and I don't know what that means but we're going to find out it's already weird no music so yeah this is just like weird prototype early versions of games that I don't know like how these were found but dr. Mario without the music kind of sucks chunks it's not great half of the good in dr. Mario was the music who's this dog by the way this dog did not make the final cut if I'm not mistaken so let's clear a level and then I have an instruction goddammit let's clear a level he says as he screws up clearing a level got it the dog is okay even though the dog is still yelping in pain oh we've got a lot more viruses to go never never mind okay so virus then there's fall down off which what does what does that mean oh I think I know what this means it means watch [ __ ] weird that makes things a lot worse yeah I don't think I like that very much but you know Mario is in it so it's probably for the best that they ended up calling it dr. Mario virus does not have the same ring to it Oh God Oh God Maris all right so we'll move on now this is the next version of iris this is the pc10 version and it says here this is much closer to the final version but still different enough to be interesting so this is the next version of virus and we got music [Music] okay I don't know if dr. Mario looks different from my recollection is that dr. Mario looked a little different in the final game oh yeah this is lo something weird is happening you would think like how simple this game is they made it in like a weekend that's not how that works strong it's gonna save it but I have here a prototype for Super Mario Brothers 2 the version of this game is sort of an in-between process from doki doki panick and super mario brothers to there's a fair amount of differences such as the underground music and the lack of a run button oh no you can access different worlds by pressing a several times on the title screen nothing prevents you access to corrupted worlds if you press more than six times so please explore the realms of these worlds if you want by pressing a a different amount of times on the title screen Oh corrupted worlds okay so many of you probably know here's your history lesson that Mario 2 in the US was originally getting called Doki Doki picnic which then became Doki Doki literature club now is Doki Doki Panic and then it became Mario 2 in the US and you know people like myself thought it was great but yeah the lack of a run button not good it's so weird not being able to run ooh magic lamp instead of a different magic lamp nose potion right Yes sorry potion was like what was it yep potion this is kind of a nightmare without the Run button but so far this level seems pretty similar and I'm not seeing a ton of differences aside from some basic stuff but let's check out the music down here oh my god Wow actually come to think of it I'm now surprised that they didn't go with it what how the [ __ ] do you get over there [Music] Oh boom just barely I can't even imagine what this is like without some of the platforming options that running affords you I guess you just have to change characters some like real stanky percussion alright so Berto I don't I can't tell if Berto looks a little different Varro's body looks a little weird there's no Bo Mario I'm on an egg over the [ __ ] ocean [Music] Oh weird okay so they didn't finish doing the slot machine mechanic wow that was Luigi yeah if this game was made by a different company today that slot machine would probably be monetized and [Music] get you some different character skins better jump a gun I don't remember if Luigi looked this [ __ ] up [Music] originally a body is real weird okay well that's one of the corrupted worlds [Music] world seven one so right here at the end Vinnie there's more to the underground theme okay well we'll move we'll listen we'll get there I kind of want to know how we got this like how do we currently have also the buttons are reversed in a weird way it's not bugging me out man [Music] to reverse the buttons I'm sorry a lot of these prototypes just show up in a box of games bought on eBay weird okay much better controls reversed still no run of course see my memory of Mario 2 is not so great that I can tell the differences in the sprites but if you can see any differences enjoy okay we're gonna listen now a lot of the differences are really just unchanged from the original Doki Doki even the slot machine oh [ __ ] [Music] this is amazing [Music] kind of wish they left this that's great so we'll take a tour through all the worlds and if you see any differences that you recognize you know point them out otherwise I'll do my best go see if the rocket looks the same yep same rocket the grass isn't animated well the cherries aren't animated either cherries are supposed to be animated I feel like they're supposed to be clouds in the background here but I don't know yeah like non-animated cherries basically take this game from a 10 down to an 8 Luigi's legs feel different wait a minute why are you touching Luigi's legs hey Mario I've been rubbing them for a long time this guy's been rubbing them [Music] Pech okay so the waterfall level I can't even imagine what it would be like to actually go to a flea market or order a box of games on eBay for like a hundred bucks and you end up getting a rare version of a game that never was released officially think about how many of those things were found and then never played or opened or dumped onto the Internet oh also yeah that waterfall is just horrendous if I'm not mistaken the animation and the final version of the waterfall does not hurt one's eyes as much there are a lot of collectors who hoard them that's a shame I mean it's nice to have what we have but it would be nice if you know there were more things that you can see non hoarded doki-doki x' waterfall isn't that fast my pet peach is more or less like the lugs are pretty tiny but same [Music] but yeah the run button I have a question chap in Doki Doki Panic could your character run or were you stuck to this block speed no okay I don't know if this is different but you can walk on this enemy at the same speed at which it flies this is cool but I mean it's really great to think about like how this game went from doki doki panick to this to doki doki literature club which was a totally different genre and it came out god 30-something years later crazy it's an easy joke it's a low-hanging fruit and you know how much I like them fruits yeah no I select on the main screen depending on how many times you press the a button and if you press it more than there are worlds you get a bunch of weird corrupted worlds so I'm not actually using the corruptor for most of this most of this seems to work okay except for the green waterfalls I mean I'm shocked that this works oh [Music] wait no I should take the warm-up this [ __ ] blew my mind when I was a kid that you could get a warp zone by doing that it was just a quiet and we're back to regular world six there seems to be some kind of double jump that doesn't work very often I don't know how it works but I've done it like two or three times I think it's just a glitch that was probably fixed [Music] god I hate when you throw a salad out and you can smell the salad dressing from your plus shoot game by Hal laboratory released on the NES this prototype is something that I think has a Larry's intro placeholder to check out so you have to load this into the famicom disk system you and that's what we shall do on a minute video filter video you and here it is Famicom vini may we see your Famicom disk system no you may not in fact [Music] all right so far so good not a bad intro for an NES game [Music] but long long ago there lived a boy grotesque boy whose name was [ __ ] makan he was so poor that he couldn't buy anything but he bought Walkman and stereo kozo whenever he saw how laboratories made it and it does feel pretty good for an NES game [Music] so I guess it's level based gameplay like that's one whole level [Music] remember kids we would spend $60 or more on games like this [Music] this is identical to the final game outside the intro test text okay alright so be it interesting never saw that game before and that poor grotesque boy let's take a look at another one that uses a very special game console system of course and it's called sound Factory and it's a prototype for the Super Nintendo sound fantasy sorry sound fantasy I don't know why said factory but basically this uses the mouse so it says here this is the kind of game it's kind of like Mario Paint that was never released for the SNES oh so this never came out this game is kind of like a music based Mario Paint successor that was never released sound factory was another game okay I'm supposed to come out in late 1994 but was cancelled last minute by Nintendo possibly because of his experimental nature then he can read I promise the creator of this game Toshio who I went to make electro plankton for the Nintendo DS later on you alright sound factory [Music] so I need to the sensitivity of the mouse is crazy lower that a little bit better okay all right good um I can draw stars oh cool I kind of hear in my head where this should go I love this chord right here this one yeah not bad for random placement but there's definitely a chord I want over here but I can't get it [Music] like you can't really even see what you're placing you just have to do it and hope for the best alright okay so sound Factory what's weird cuz it says sound factory over here and then it says sound fantasy on the Box strange alright so select for insects okay what the [ __ ] I can 1994 it's a little more of a classic mini golf game by Nintendo and Hal laboratories so there's a 1992 prototype recently found patched by myself with better controls says Luigi blood it was playable in trade shows the final version released for so teleview in 1996 Wow okay so we'll start with the 1992 prototype yeah immediately recognizable level design a little bit just because the kirby's dream course has such a distinct style that's Gorby [Music] haha so if you've never seen me play kirby's dream course the game is [ __ ] amazing and it is basically this yeah it's a golf game it's a Kirby golf game and this is very similar yeah this would have been good enough on its own without Kirby oh and and make no mistake if you watch me play Kirby's Dream course or if you play it yourself you'll find out that I rage a lot it is a game that is very chill until it's not and you'll find out if you play it [Music] special shot [Music] [Music] special fallout I really should have the Mario Party stuff and power-ups but it's it this is look at the level are you kidding me why is the level going so crazy I don't know what's going on up here what like who are these lads what is their purpose Oh some differences already like weird inflation stuff that's there there's plants the levels deform even more in an interesting way as well oh okay there's more more polish there's like music for when you're about to [ __ ] up a putt and for par cool okay I'll do like one more level of this [Music] you can't inflate the ball like kirby so that it's it's got its own thing it's got its own feel to it like you look Kirby you could pump and that sounds weird but if you haven't played the game it's probably a lot weirder than than you think or less weird what does the blue spot do I don't know let's get the idea very very interesting stuff I'm learning a lot on today's stream will move on to SimCity when Nintendo grabbed the rights to make a SimCity game it was originally being developed first on the NES and under the direction of Shigeru Miyamoto well right even went to Nintendo for a week for the game's design it was eventually cancelled in favor of the SNES version as they were slowly phasing out the NES it is considerably different from the SNES version including the music written by the same composer of the SNES version I mean I can't even really fathom I never would have thought like how would you even get a SimCity game on the NES [Music] sorry about that you didn't miss much [Music] okay so [Music] oh this is crusty [Music] football hell yeah let's put down a football stadium why not no there's no houses and no people here but there's gonna be football well it's definitely Sim City [Music] there's not um that's industry wait a minute now I need a power plant that's it that much it's kind of cool and if I learn how to play it I might enjoy it even more you got an auto budget [Music] okay that's how you move the map okay cool yeah I mean it would have been playable enough it seems the fire department their airfare for air crash [Music] tornados just waiting on the monster [Music] vini this version is nearly feature complete it only starts to bug out towards the end of big cities oh man imagine getting that far with a game and then having to cancel it that must be heartbreaking only two copies of this cartridge are known to exist [Music] well yeah I have one of them that's right this is I have the third cartridge [Music] cool earthquake the stadium was destroyed the last bastion of humanity [Music] dumping this game was a huge drama fest I believe it I was told that a lot of people don't believe in having the beta's of these games actually put online so and I have one more game for you before we go to grab bag which is Yoshi's cookie you [Music] this is a Super Nintendo version [Music] okay so that's the Super Nintendo version it is this is the prototype and then I'll also show you the final version as well which it says here is included to show how drastically the differences can be I actually forgot there was a Super Nintendo version that voice so yeah the core principle of the game is still intact even this early on a lot of people that hoard the carts do actually dump them for preservation they just don't release them to the public which sucks but at least it's better than letting them rot I mean I hope this stream you know I am a newbie to this world of preservation and betas and people getting these karts [Music] so I'm fascinated by this this is my first time really examining any of this and I think it's really interesting and I really hope that this stream inspires people to if they have them put them on the Internet it's really really fascinating it is entertaining but also yeah I mean it's it's a preservation thing too I just hope that more of this stuff is eventually dug up because I would definitely have no problem doing a part 2 [Music] some galaxies brain pulled a heist and pretended to be a repairman for some dudes arcade cabinet and dumped a rom for some unreleased game Wow why is mono Mario's pumping he's pumping he's pumping Island so anyway you get the idea this is the prototype and this is the final version so it's a puzzle game it was never a huge fan of Yoshi's cookie but I rented it so this is only five months later so you now have a new title screen you've got action you got verse and puzzle Yoshi stogie no intro [Music] I mean it doesn't appear to be that much different [Music] Mario's eyebrows are red the Yoshi sprite is remade but Mario's exactly the same yeah this I got this [Music] well this is kind of cool two moves but yeah I don't really know what else to say I mean this isn't the most drastic example of of all this the prototype is definitely
