Niko used to be an old friend of his youngest sister he wants to approach her but he doesn't want to look like a weird guy hitting on her so he asks curu to come with him she accepts to help him even though she's nervous about the snake killings when aragi climbs up to the shrine he sees nadio killing a snake with tears in her eyes he stops her and she immediately recognizes him when she was in grade too nadio didn't have many friends her only friend was ARA's younger sister Tui who introduced her to araragi in the present araragi takes Niko to his house curu then joins them and immediately starts looking for dirty books in ARA's room making him mad with an evil smile she reveals that she already found out all about his tastes in women when she was stalking him before causing araragi to panic seeing them bicker like that nadio starts giggling she asks the two to turn around for a moment when she tells them they can turn around again they're surprised to see Nate kide from wearing a pair of bloomers Karu says that she lent her a pair of her own Bloomers so that Ari wouldn't see her panties looking more closely they realize that nedo is covered with strange markings shaped like snakes starting to cry Niko desperately begs araragi to help her get rid of the markings visiting Asino araragi finds out from him that Niko is dealing with a snake Spirit called a jerala it's an apparition that is dispatched by a person's malice that makes sense to araragi because Nido told him that a friend of one of her classmates put a curse on her the boy that friend had a crush on confessed his love to nadio and she turned him down not knowing about that whole situation however a jerwa isn't something an amateur can control so Asino is suspicious when nadio realized a curse had been placed on her she read a book about curses and started doing rituals to lift the curse which is why she was killing snakes however her condition has been getting worse since she started doing that surprisingly ashino tells him that she was doing the correct ritual but she must have made some kind of mistake after his meeting with ashino aragi comes back home Asino gave him a charm to lift the curse with but they have to lift it at The Shrine they decide to perform the ritual that same night while he and canaru are getting some things for the ritual araragi tells her that Niko's life is in danger the jerwa is constricting her body the entire time and if the snake marks reach her face she will die asled him that NAA should be in pain from that so she must must be enduring it and putting on a brave face he also said that her classmates's friend's curse doesn't matter so much as the fact that nio made it worse with the ritual she performed usually there are no malevolent Spirits at that Shrine but because Shinu arrived in the town recently various Spirits began Gathering there she's a Vampire the king of apparitions so they were attracted to her since the jerwa was at the shrine when nadio was killing those snakes it targeted her she was unlucky because she wouldn't be attacked at any other place Karu wonders if it's risky to perform the ritual to lift the curse at the same Shrine but aragi tells her it should be fine if they follow the proper procedure after they've prepared the threee head out on the way to the shrine araragi asks Nido if she's in pain and she admits it feels like she's being squeezed araragi then tells her it's okay for her to say she's hurting when she's in pain climbing to the top of the mountain araragi and the girls are almost at the abandoned Shrine araragi asks Nido why she turned down the boy who confessed to her and she tells him there's someone else she likes suddenly she asks him how much of the past he remembers and she's disappointed when he tells her he doesn't have a very good memory Niko admits that she remembers him clearly because she never really played with anyone else other than him and his sister Tuki madiko and tukki hian split up when they started going to middle school leaving her alone again a little bit ominously Niko admits she was envious of her because she had a big brother at The Shrine aragi is outraged because curu gave nio a school swimsuit to wear during the ritual koru claims she's just accommodating for his taste and he gets mad at her araragi gives Nido the charm ashino gave him and tells her to close her eyes control her breathing and pray to whatever she wants before Niko starts she tells araragi to keep his eyes on her during the ritual then Niko kneels and starts praying she wishes araragi would look at her and remembers meeting him for the first time she liked him because he was kind and didn't bully her like the other kids she wished she had a nice older brother like Zuki does and asks dagi if she can call him big brother in the present the charm Niko is holding starts glowing and the snake marks start disappearing from her body araragi and Karu are relieved but Karu is concerned they'll owe even more money to ashino than they already do heragi tells her it's fine since they purified the shrine from all the spirits that gathered there and actually did Asino a favor after a while na starts Breathing heavily and Karu notices She's suffering she asks araragi if there's a way to remove the jerwa all at once and he tells her that he has the ability to touch it according to Asino however Asino also told him that the jerwa would then then start attacking him instead even if he managed to Shake it Off The Snake Spirit would then attack the person who cursed Niko in the first place Asino also advised araragi to stop getting involved with the Supernatural and try to help everyone he meets it's dangerous and there will come a time when ashino won't be there to help him araragi thinks he can't just ignore people and they're in trouble he also tells ashino he can't really exercise apparitions because he's on10th Apparition himself ashino then tells him that he could go back to being completely human if he just abandoned Shinu but aragi knows that already in the present nadio starts screaming in pain and convulsing making aragi realize something it turns out that the boy who Niko rejected cursed her too and there are actually two Jer andaas so the one charm they brought isn't enough araragi runs up to Niko who seems like she's in a coma having no other choice he grabs one of the spirit snakes and starts grappling with it he gets bitten a number of times and has a hard time after the second snake starts attacking him too he manages to free him self and defeat one of the snakes but the other snake is invisible so he can just barely see them moving through the grass and dust he does his best to concentrate but the jerwa Venom makes him collapse he still tries fighting with his last remaining strength but Karu tackles him enabling the snake to escape she tells her he has to stop moving so the Venom doesn't spread araragi is concerned because the snake will head back to the boy Niko rejected and canaru shuts him up by telling him he's choosing the wrong person to save with tears in his eyes a iig U to forgive him for involving her in such a dangerous ordeal however Karu is just happy that nadio is fine again nadio thanks aragi for his help but he doesn't feel he deserves it since he even tried to save the person who cursed her in the first place visiting Asino
