when is a 1776 1976 dual date kennedy half dollar worth money how much are these coins worth stay tuned because we're going to talk about that in this video all right here's my website portsmouthcoinshop.com i have several items on sale and i have a lot of new items added so check it out if you get a chance now we're going to talk about 1972 and it's actually a dual date 1776 1976 kennedy half dollars now it's the only kennedy half dollar that has a different reverse all the rest have the eagle on the reverse and it looks like this this is independence hall this reverse was it was changed to commemorate the bicentennial of the united states of america okay and now the regular reverse that we see that's normal is here now when you're looking at these for mint marks this has no mint mark which is normal but the mint mark would be in this area right in here so the mint mark on the 1976 is actually here now they were released in proof sets like this which are clad they'll be in a black box and they'll have that red insert then they were released as no mint mark philadelphia and denver mint mark in sets like this um i'm showing the reverse here uh as you can see you've got the what they some people call the drummer boy but it's actually a colonial drummer and you'll have the type 1 of the type 2 so they came in 75 min sets and 76 mint sets as 75 proof sets and 76 proof sets but there's none date it's 1975. so if you hear someone having one of those it's either a daniel carr restrike or it doesn't it's it's a fake so that's very important to note then they came in kind of on a sms set but it's really a special set it's a kind of a special finish but it's under ms but they came in these packs here and these are 40 silver here then they came in a box like this and they'll be proofs in that box and i'll show you what they look like just like this here and they're 40 silver so they're the proofs that they're the 40 silver the best way to determine whether you have a silver kennedy half or not is if you weigh it i mean that's the important thing you always got to know the weights so i come over here to coinflation and you want to look at the weight 11.5 weight in grams is how much a 40 percent silver and 60 copper kennedy half dollar will weigh so some of these can be really valuable but there's a reason why they're valuable they have to be graded and they have to grade a certain grade and be a certain either a proof or non-proof or you know like i said cloud or silver so we're going to look at a few of the more valuable ones now there are some varieties to look for and that's the first thing we're looking at here is a 1976 s so you remember the little pack that has the kennedy half i showed and has the quarter and i said it was kind of an sms but it's under the ms because it has a different finish than business strikes well here it is this is an double die a verse and this is something that you can look for it's the fs101 it's not extremely valuable but you know mostly it's the thickness of the lettering this is not a very good picture but that's one thing to look for in these this one graded 68 it's not difficult to find these in 68. most people are trying to find these in 70 and they're worth a lot more money in 70 but 780 dollars for this one in a 68. then you have the 76 d like i said here's the mint mark here ms 67 and it's difficult to get but above 65 on the business strikes here in the mint sets you'll notice that they're kind of beat up a little bit but fourteen hundred and forty dollars now one of the things that's very important to look at is when these sold because some of them may not be worth that much now but at one time this is what they sold for now here's your clad it weighs 11.34 grams so then you have the 76 s and which is a clad but it is a proof and it's a proof 66 now this one's a double die reverse so on the reverse here you have the double die this one sold for 1527.50 cents then you have the 76 now this is clad without the mint mark so it's a philadelphia mint coin the only reason why this philadelphia no mint mark coin is worth 1997 dollars is because it graded mint state 67 in the pcgs holder that's the only reason it's not worth that much because it doesn't have a mint mark it's not worth that much just because it's a seven bill date or a 1976 half dollar but then we'll look at the reverse here there's a reverse design again then we have a 1976 d this is a clad mint state 67 plus okay now this is 2 585 and the reason why it sold for this much is because it graded 67 plus has that plus grade on it then you have a 1976 s this is the proof and this proof is actually i'll show you here when you're looking at the holders it's clad if they have an s in front of the 50 cents or silver on it any slabs it just depends on what grading company then you know it's silver it's very important to distinguish the difference between the two this one was a proof that came out of a clad proof set that i showed you earlier in the black box with the red insert one 5100 and seventy five dollars you know and most of us are never going to get grades like this or coins like this uh very difficult to get these grades that i'm showing you in these coins so you have a roll of kennedy halves someone left you some or you found one in your change or role searching or whatever what are they worth what are those worth that's what's important what's what is it worth that you're finding maybe in your pocket change and like i said most people don't spend these anymore so when i say pocket change i mean from the bank so maybe even a collection at one time because they did circulate at one time so here we go here we have a 69 it sold for 18.99 it was a 76 s i just showed you the one that was 70 and how much it sold for here's another one at 70 the 76s this is the silver it sold for 241. but we're still not seeing the ones in circulation well here's one aubu bicentennial kennedy half a dollar ninety nine our best offer so two bucks some people are paying for these uh the circulated versions and here's some here's a lot of six that it includes a 76 and actually for a dollar ninety nine so as you can see there's not a lot of value here's some that are cut out of mint sets but there's just not a lot of value on the circulated ones that you're finding in collections that have been beat up a little bit have some wear on them they're just not worth a lot of money you know it's not easy to get a couple dollars out of these when they're circulated a lot of times we just take them to the bank it's not really worth it you know it's only worth a little bit above face if you want more values you want to explore this a little bit more you can come over here to pcgs price guide or go to ngc's price guide or coin dealer newsletter website they actually have their own retail so that way you can get an idea of what something sells for because there like i said there are some that are valuable you know when you get into certain grades and some people like to try their hand at that and send in bulk submissions of the proofs and so hopefully that helps you out a little bit which ones are worth a lot of money there are some that are worth a bunch but it's very rare to get that grade but hey it doesn't hurt to try if you want to cut out some proof sets and cut up some mint sets and and try your hand at it i mean it's a gamble but some some people like to do that i like to do that so thanks for watching my latest video and hit that bell when you so you can get a notification for every video that i release and have a great day
