all right well today we're going to be tackling a very neglected project of mine my Turbo LS Street truck here this thing has been sitting for long enough to grow mold on the side of it it hasn't gotten used and it hasn't gotten finished to its full potential so I have wanted to build one of these for a long time I had this truck we finally dove into the build and it honestly came out great you know I put together a Ron's Pistons six liter with Stage 2.5 PRC ported heads it's got a vs racing 7875 turbo I built a full four inch downpipe and exhaust for it it's got a detourx fuel system Holley Terminator setup controlling the engine and the transmission it's got a built for Our Lady it's a really good overall combo and we put the truck together we got it running we got it driving we worked out the bugs and you know the truck absolutely rips but right around the time we got the truck to that point we were just fully deep back in my C6 competition drift car build and then the comp season and then these other projects and this thing just kind of fell by the wayside and got parked so it's been sitting at about 90 percent done for the last almost a year as painful as it is to say that so what we're going to do is we're finally going to get this thing finished up where I wanted to get it to from the beginning doesn't need a whole ton more it just needs a little bit need some Aesthetics need some mechanical stuff changed tinkered with finished up and then it should be good to go so that being said though we do potentially have a major engine problem to deal with first so I have driven it a few times in the last year and there seems to be a common problem I'm not one to jump to worst case scenario but I have not been able to roll it out as hard as I've tried we might have a major engine issue so first things first we need to see if this thing will still fire up because the squirrels have been uh they've been busy eating away at a lot of the rubber pieces so I'm hoping they didn't get through any of the wiring at least the wiring that makes it run and this thing will fire up and run and drive still so we can get it in the shop and I'll show you what we're working with show you what the problem that we're potentially dealing with is all right guys before we get too deep in today's video I wanted to talk to you about today's video sponsor ag1 so AJ one is a nutritional drink that contains 75 different Whole Food Source ingredients including vitamins minerals probiotics everything your body needs and craze to be happy and to be healthy the fact that I can have just this as my entire Health routine is the difference between me sticking to it and not sticking to it the easier something is to do the more sustainable it is if something is super difficult then it's really easy to fall out of that routine whereas with ag-1 it's such a piece of cake that can stick to it when I'm at home when I'm traveling all the way through I don't have to worry about missing a day or falling out of that routine and it has helped me tremendously I don't necessarily eat the best especially when we're on the road we just kind of eat what we can and what we have time to get and it definitely affects me you know when I'm not eating well I feel it and you know when you're at the track on a hot day and it's just everything is is stressing your body and you don't have any of those vitamins or minerals that you need it makes it a whole lot harder to deal with so ag1 has been an absolute Game Changer in that sense it gives me this clean sustainable energy that carries me throughout the day I don't get the crash I don't get the Jitters I get so much more work done it's honestly incredible and it's a piece of cake I mean one scoop eight to twelve ounces of cold water Shake It Up drink it you're done you're good to go for the whole day I mean it's about as easy as it can possibly get and personally I love the taste of it now it's not gonna be some raspberry banana strawberry fruit smoothie it's never going to be that you can't really expect that out of a drink that packs as much healthy punch as this but from what all is in here I can tell you I've tried a lot of different things and I don't know how they made it taste as good as it does I've come to really enjoy the taste of it foreign so if you're interested in trying it out for yourself go to athleticgreens.com forward slash Taylor Ray with two hours to get started on your first purchase athletic greens is going to give you guys a free one-year supply of immune supporting vitamin D3 plus K2 as well as five free travel packs with your first purchase it's definitely worth trying out see if you like it see if it changes your life as much as it did mine I'd be willing to bet it does so that being said we got a lot of work to do not a lot of time to do it you know the deal we need to get back to it let's see if this thing fires up it's been a few months so I'm curious It's always fired up really well uh even after sitting so I think it will but if the squirrels shoot through the wiring there's not much I can do about that so let's see fuel pump works like it's nothing Gotta Love a Holley Terminator man [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] well funny enough this is actually the first time this truck's been on the lift since it's been finished you know we got it part way done and then by the time we were able to finish it up we did the transmission install and all the other odds and ends in the house garage over there because we're in the process of rebuilding the shop so I haven't got to look under this thing since it's been a running driving truck and fortunately I mean there's like virtually no leaks you know this thing weeks less than uh my race cars I got a tiny little drop of oil there but it seems to be sealed up nicely which is good but also kind of bad because there are no external leaks and we do have the problem I think we have so let me drop this thing down and I'll show you what I'm talking about foreign so here's the deal truck's been sitting for a while I go to drive into the store I noticed that the truck's running a little hotter than it should when I'm sitting at stop lights as soon as I start driving again it cools back down as soon as I go to any RPM at all it cools down now that's a Telltale sign that you've got air in your system your Chrome level is low so what happens is your coolant level gets low air rises to the top engine's idling the water pump's not flowing a ton of volume so the sensor starts reading steam steam is hotter than water so it reads that your temperature is hotter as soon as you give it RPM the water pump starts pumping water through the system the sensor then reads water instead of steam and gives you the accurate actual temperature so I got home and diagnosis confirmed the truck was low now I expected it to be a little low maybe a quart well maybe I've been dripping truck's been sitting there for a while it was like a gallon and a half low now it had been sitting for a few months it was sitting in the gravel so you know maybe it was leaking and I just there was no spot but I I couldn't see any visible leak so I topped it off drove it around a little bit it seemed okay fast forward a few months I'm getting ready to go to the turkey rod runs pop the cap off check the coolant yet again and it is about a gallon plus low again now this time I pulled the dipstick out and I find that dipstick itself is very Rusty which means we've definitely got moisture in the crank case where it came from still unsure so I did an oil change on it I topped it back off with coolant and we took it to the turkey rod runs and the truck performed flawlessly I mean it was this first long drive on the highway it didn't get hot ran perfectly normal we did pools in it we ripped it we did burnouts everything no issues drove home everything was fine but the next day I go out I check the coolant and as you can probably guess it's low yet again so the coolant is going somewhere the obvious guess is head gasket but generally if you have coolant leaking into your oil through the head gasket it's going to leak oil into the corn but the coin is Crystal Clear there is no oil in the cooling system and there's no combustion in the cooling system now the other theory is that we're getting moisture into the crankcase from here and the coolant's going somewhere else but there is no sign that the coolant is leaking anywhere so that theory holds a little less water than the head gasket so I'm leaning towards it being a head gasket even though it's kind of hard to confirm that but that that's the best guess as what our problem could be and this is obviously a major issue we need to fix so what we're going to do is we're going to tear this thing apart we're going to re-torque the heads do a full thorough fluids change we're gonna go beat the snot out of it and we're gonna see if it's still good if it's still good after that we know we're good if not we're gonna have to tear it apart further and replace the head gasket and then go from there but we need to get this issue fixed first we need this thing to run right before we can work on the other upgrades and the Aesthetics and all that other stuff that we need to do this is this is step one so that being said a whole lot of triple jabber that's the long and short of the last eight nine months of this shark's life this is where we've got some work to do so let's Dive In foreign well as we were tearing it apart Josue showed up and he offered a good suggestion this is why it's helpful to have two people so we should diag it a little bit more I may have jumped the gun I'm pretty confident it's the head gasket just because I've kind of ruled out anything else but we are going to try pressurizing the cooling system I forgot I do have a cooling pressure tester kit maybe we'll find it coming out of somewhere if it is through the head gasket into the oil passage I think the best way to determine that is we're going to drain the oil leave the drain plug off pressurize the system and in theory if it's pumping water down into the oil Galley that should come out the drain plug then we know for sure that that's the case before we rip the heads apart it's just uh it's a good amount of work to get the heads off this thing so if we don't have to do all that we might as well try right give it a shot so this way's gonna vacuum these leaves out because uh things been sitting for a while I'm gonna start getting everything ready to do our uh we'll test here thank you you put that pipe there [Applause] someone else is awesome out of the drain thank you oh yeah if that was our whole problem again that the oil's a little a little milky so it could but it could just be damn we didn't fix that damn Steam work that's where it's all coming from all right well so we made the right call I think we'll confirm once we fix this but our steam vent right here we have this hose that we just used because we had it and a week before I chased my tail on a coolant leak for a while and it turned out to be this hose I fixed it I or so I thought it was fine for a little while and it started leaking again so we need to replace that hose and it seems like it's coming out of the steam vent itself so anyway point is we've definitely got a major leak there so we're going to fix that fill all the systems put back together thankfully I didn't get that far into tearing it apart and then see where we're at so Josue and I dive into putting this thing back together but first we've got to get this hose swapped out now I never should have used this hose in the first place this is actually for a welding TIG torch cooler I had it lying around it was just the only hose we had at the time that was closed and we were on a time crunch we were trying to go drive this thing and that was the one thing holding us up so we tossed it on one of those I'll replace it later and then later never comes or in this case it comes after you've been fighting problems with it which is usually how it goes That's why you should do things right the first time so we get the rubber hose swapped in the correct type of hose for this we pressurize the system everything seems to be holding so we're going to go ahead and put it back together now fortunately Jose had the idea to to diagnose this thing further it had been something I tinkered with over the last eight 12 months the truck's been sitting so it's something I should have tried to dive into more I'm glad he mentioned it all right so we didn't get too far into tearing it apart luckily I started with all the easy stuff so we only had the easy stuff to put back together we didn't get into the hard stuff all right well good seeming news I was that guy even though I was convinced I wasn't that guy because even when I drained the oil and there was a lot of moisture in there I was still like there's I was holding down hope that it wasn't the head gasket it didn't make all that much sense that it was the head gasket as we talked about earlier but the steam vent rubber hose deal was leaking we've got that sorted new O-rings on the steam vent box and then a new hose that's the correct size so we pressurized it it didn't bleed down we also drained the catch can here so it has this drain down here and I had tried to loosen that before I loosened it like a turn or so nothing came out so I assumed nothing was in it but you had to go two three turns out then it started draining and we got two full cans like 16 ounce cans of water out of there so the catch can here was completely full of water from the rain it probably drains into it so then that water was working its way back into the engine presumably allegedly allegedly it adds up so I mean I'm trying not to get too optimistic I have mentally prepare myself to pull the heads off this thing but I'm gonna be really stoked if we don't have to I mean and I was kind of disappointed in myself I put together a lot of Ls engines you know my garage in the shop you know at home doing all the same same methods and it's always worked great multiple so many engines to put together and then this one I'm like this is the first time I've ever had a weekend head gasket on engine I put together so it'd be nice it'd be nice Redemption for myself if that's not the case what do you think Josue I think that is implausible uh cause oh actually all right we're gonna lift this thing up uh I changed the filter put some fresh oil in it uh and then we're gonna go beat the crap out of it and we gotta throw this coin and if it doesn't leak then we're gonna beat the crap out of it so you know the deal I got to move mostly steps a lot of the way enough I don't know what you're talking about another driver back to work I never used it dude I'm six foot seven [Music] wastegate one it's got a hole in it that could have been bad [Music] all right trucks put back together oil is filled new filter coolant is filled we will need to fire it up and bleed it oh it's already sucked a good bit down I'll have to put some more and then see where we're at yeah I'd be so happy if that's all that was [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Music] is build a quiet exhaust for it I'm gonna build a four inch all the way out the back with I didn't think it would be that was turbo Alice's aren't normally that loud so loud it's obnoxious it's like you can't really rip on it too much because everyone's gonna hear you it would be nice for it to be like real stealthy this thing was quiet you can like you could rip on it you know kind of out of the way and nobody will even know what's happening foreign so after our successful test drive we decided we're not going to go any further on this thing until we clean all of the grime off of it this poor truck was looking rough man it has been sitting it has sat through two major hurricanes a ton of Florida rainstorms every element that could have been thrown at it besides snow has been thrown on it and uh it was showing so we wanted to get it cleaned up before the sun went down this is a great time to wash cars in Florida because it's so hot during the day that the sun will literally just cook the soap onto the car before you can rinse it off so perfect time to get this knocked out get this thing cleaned up give us some extra motivation [Music] all right well we washed this thing off yesterday we got it cleaned up a decent it looks a lot a million times better it needs paint we are going to paint it I have some body panels for it we're gonna fix those and paint it um but we brought this thing back in because we still have a few things a lot to do when test ripped it it felt good theory seems to hold water oh we do need to check the corn though see if it's low Cold Case it was kind of sucking off pulling in over time all right well the coolant level is down slightly but that's pretty common pretty much every car I've ever but cooling systems on you know you close everything up you drive it around a little bit and then it'll be a little bit low once all the air Works its way out of the system so I could just be that uh oil with clean and clear so I can't say definitively yet if we fix it or not we had coolant leaks you know what let's do the week [Music] that's it for a minute make sure we're good if it doesn't leak down it can't be losing coolant you know if it holds pressure you may be freaking put an x on it Mark it done move on with our lives just hold some water dang it this thing's been a fight but steam vent set up all right well health check number one seems good it makes sense you know one of my reasons for going with that theory and thinking that was even a remote possibility that our catch can got water in it and put water in our engine is the fact that this tire always leaks down the truck sits for months this tire goes flat so the truck is always leaned to this side and it sat through two hurricanes tons of Florida rain storms the water is going to run this way because it's leaning to this side right to here so you know it kind of made sense as outlandish as it seemed time will tell but I think we're okay so we want to take this thing for another Drive do another couple pulls make sure she's all good but before we do that we're gonna go ahead and remove this drawer system now I installed this thing quite a while ago now and the reason was for drag and drive events to be able to store stuff in there secure it keep it out of the weather but the the future of this truck the plans of what we're going to do with it is change and more of the stuff we're going to be toting around in it would be better fitted in an open bed so we decided to yank it out and uh what better way to clear all the excess leaves out than to go for a little drive and do a couple pulls all right well everything seems to be working completely fine trucks running good driving good sounds good for a race truck not great for a street truck water temps hanging out right at 200 transmission temp 185 air fuels all looks good boost control is working yeah transmission temps holding steady cooling temps right where it should be tanks hot so it's definitely still got Cooling in it we'll have to check it once it cools down to verify but think mechanically we're back to A1 so we still got a bunch to do to this thing I'm going to rebuild the exhaust out the back uh we're gonna change out some body panels headlights tail lights Wheels and Tires Lower it paint it get the AC working and some other odds and ends make it a really really really dialed Primo Street truck so that's coming up and I'm still waiting on some parts for that and some time I just I wanted to see where we were at mechanically because if it had a bad engine we need to pull the head gaskets I wanted to get that knocked out first so we're kind of done with this for the moment it's not going to get parked for as long I promise we're gonna drive it we're gonna use it but what we need to move on to is a C6 Corvette competition drift build we are taking this thing drifting in two days we're going to grid life and it's going to be its first time on a big fast track we've done a bunch of small track stuff we've driven the skid pad at osw a number of times for testing fun events we did one up there and then we did the comp at the freedom Factory which was still on the infield so the fastest the car is probably gone in drift is 70 75 miles an hour we're going to a big road course this car makes a ton of power we're going to be going really fast I guarantee you well over 100 mile an hour entries in this thing now what that means is just because our body panels have held on this long doesn't mean they're going to keep hanging on the most important thing is the hood so we have these quick latches for the hood and these came with the hood so we just left them but these are not the correct quick latches to use on something like a hood they're way too small way too small of a pan and I think these are the knockoff ones that come apart we broke one on the bumper so I don't have faith in these holding the hood on at 100 plus miles an hour and if the hook comes off that's a whole can of worms I don't want to open so we're going to upgrade these uh we need to do plugs we need to do potentially oil change and we've got some other upgrades to do I've got all the parts in the seat so that being said I'm gonna quit your job and we're gonna get this thing pushed into the lift Bay and get to work good drop it down go hurry dude come on why are you taking for ever and then people comment and they're like why are you yelling at him it's not that big of a deal and I'm like that's the point for future reference if I'm ever yelling at oh sway it's always a joke I don't think it's a joke it was like wait what it's a joke this whole time I've been crying myself to sleep for no reason [Music] all right beautiful you want to put that over here all right so here are the quick latches that were on there there is the watch itself the nut and then the PIN here is what's going on as you can see it is significantly larger I mean just a little inside portion fits in there the pan itself way way larger this is a much much beefier quick watch so these again are specifically for hoods this is a specific Hood quick latch which is what should have been in here from the beginning again these were just in the hood we ran with them should have thought about this before but thought about it now here we are so these are what we're putting in uh the difficulty is we basically obviously got to open up the holes in the hood some of them are a little tight but this one's a little bit tight to this Ridge here so we either gotta shift it this way or cut this Ridge down there's going to be some modifications involved it's not as simple as just uh drilling out some bigger holes we got to get the nuts for these welded in so these thread in and are in the right place so the hood goes in the right place we got a decent bit to do so I'm gonna quit your over jabber and we're gonna get to it so Josue is going to work on getting the new hood latches onto the hood I'm gonna work on getting the pins mounted to the chassis so basically each side of the system now this again is not going to be the easiest of tasks so these have to be pretty precise they've got to go in the right place but on top of that since we already have a big hole there we can't just hole saw these out to the right size because there's nothing to Center the pilot bit so we have to use a die grinder with a carbide Burr on it now we used an aluminum Burr because they have much much wider flutes and uh those work perfect I mean these Milwaukee die Grinders I don't know how I would without having a good die grinder for as long as I did because I use these almost daily now they come in super handy so Josue is working on basically getting those fit in it's more than just the hole through the hood it's all the surrounding areas we need room to be able to get to the nuts and tighten them down it's it's definitely a bit of a process and it's not as easy as we may have envisioned now again while he's working on that I am working on mounting these to the chassis now this is going to be a little tricky as well and this got it has to be pretty precise so I cut some Square tube that it's going to weld in in the back and then go ahead and get the nuts tacked to those now the tricky part here is these pins are pretty large for this Square tube and when you're welding something like a nut if if you're not perfect with it you know the weld can get in there and seize up the thread so we need these to be adjustable so that way we can get our Hood exactly where we want it we're already fighting an uphill battle to get these in the perfect spot so that the Hood's all lined up if we can't adjust the height it's going to make it a lot more challenging so the one went perfect no issues at all adjust by hand but the second one just did not want to work the nut got stuck so I cut it apart I took it all apart and I decided all right I need a jam nut anyway so I'll just use the stuck nut as the jam nut and then tack another one on I tacked it on it was perfect I checked it checked it walked away came back and it was stuck again so I I'm struggling a little bit here I'm fighting with this a bit but we're just gonna keep on moving along we're just gonna have to be perfect with where we Mount them otherwise it's not gonna work so I go ahead and get the post cleaned up I get the old post cut off that had the tiny little pin for the tiny little quick latch and then I go ahead and clamp on the new one and get it exactly where it needs to be to tack it on so we're just going to do a couple tacks on here now and make sure that it all still fits first foreign [Applause] foreign once I got the rear set welded it was time to deal with the front now I was really hoping when I cut the previous setup off that this is going to be a hollow shaft and I would be able to slide the pin right in there no ever required but unfortunately it is solid so we've got to drill it out all the way up to the size of the PIN to get the pin in there now we could have cut those off and welded something else on there and I did think about doing that but the alignment and the the positioning of this has to be so perfect that just once you cut into it and start welding it it the chance for misalignment is so much higher so I decided to just suffer through drilling It Out by hand get it done and save myself some time in the long run so we had the same kind of trouble with the nuts here where they just you you get a few tanks in and they'd want to get tight on you so I did make sure to measure and I knew exactly how high these needed to be so I tacked them on with them at the correct height so that way if we have a hard time adjusting them we're good to go there or they're already pretty close to where they need to be so once I got them tacked let them cool down for a minute it was time to throw them all on and see if the hood fits so we bolted the fronts in and just guessed on where they needed to go based off where the paint was chipped and then started working on getting the rears on now that they're fully welded up now there's a lot of adjustment in these so getting it right the first time is unlikely and unfortunately we didn't get it right the first time I was optimistic but I knew it wasn't likely that we were going to bolt these on and the hoop is just gonna clip right in like nothing happened oh it ain't perfect but it's on there I ain't going nowhere maybe we'll get some more time I'll rebuild those mounts entirely and get it exactly where I want it but we did have to we did we definitely a little bit we didn't have to Tinker and tweak but we had to do that with the old mounts too like the ones that were already here so it's just part of it but we got it fit pretty good it's about the same as it was before just I'd really like to get it to the point where it just sets on and you don't have to jiggle with it at all but it's not bad oh all right now we don't have to worry about our Hood flying off I have confirmed the track is 100 miles an hour so plus 100 miles an hour plus so it's a good thing we did this now I did want to do plugs and an oil change but it's a little too late in the game I don't want to open that can of worms right now right before we need to leave I just want to get this thing loaded get everything strapped down that way we're ready to roll in the morning so let's get this thing put in the trailer get everything tied down and we should be ready to roll I think that's everything [Music] all right [Music] [Music] foreign cars loaded up in the trailer we're trying out a different strap setup I wanted to do this for a while but utilizing the e-track strapping over the wheel instead of strapping to this chassis or the subframe so we'll see how that does we got the scoot in here all of our wheels and tires totes of parts we are ready to rumble just gotta toss the bumper in here I absolutely hate the fact that I have to take the bumper off this car to get it in the trailer but we are going to rectify that soon I've got a whole slew of trailer upgrades planned some extended ramps so we don't have to take the bumper off and watch your jack set up for the front so we don't have to crank it manually uh winch for the floor so we don't have to ride the clutch on this thing all the way up camera to tie into the truck that was one of the biggest features of the new truck that I was excited about when I got it and I've never gone through the trouble to add the trailer camera but it'd be really nice to see behind the trailer when you're backing up in a crowded area and you don't know if somebody's behind you or not so anyway we got trailer upgrades to do we're going to do that once we get back before the season starts that's one of the big things I want to get done so that being said that is done loaded up turbo trucks back doing turbo truck things so we're gonna drive this thing some more and get into upgrading it getting it making it look right and uh be mechanically 100 we're cruising right along we just basically got to my goal of having every vehicle run and drive they just a few of them still needs some tweaking so obviously more to do on the horizon but for now that is going to be a wrap I hope to see you guys at Good Life hope to see you there video wise I think you should definitely watch it it's going to be our first time really taking the vet on a big track and being able to actually use that thousand horsepower uh we're gonna be driving with the pros we're going to be doing some crazy grip versus drift tandems drifting around cars and moving clipping points like I think it's going to be really fun so even if you don't normally watch The Drift videos maybe stay tuned for that one give it a shot let me know what you think if you go from here to there let me know so Jeepers driver thanks for watching thanks for subscribing goodbye
