doing certain is one of the best fps games ever made and especially coming for me that's a very bold statement i don't like very many games especially first person shooters i'm actually quite picky on the fps genre because it's my bread and butter sort of speak it's my go to and even with titles that are widely accepted as the best games of all time often find a handful of criticisms that normally go against the grain that do tend to land me against a handful of keyboard warriors that just often times lead to arguments that basically represent modern warfare s2 lobbies [Music] those that can't read or spell and you know get make fun of for the second grade diploma as they should anyways doom turn was a game that is undoubtedly a pioneer in the first person genre and how its software has tied the movement with the combat actively promoting weapon swapping staying on the move going for enemy weak points the movement flows with the combat that by itself has a whole depth to it in learning knowing what weapons work best on certain demons what combos are best to rely on how to move about in certain arenas how to go from attacking to retreating to attacking in just a matter of seconds by just using the environment and using it smartly can instantly turn the odds in your favor there's so much to understand and master in doom eternal from the movement to the combat and the both of them flow in such a way that not very many games have ever been able to do before and to be completely honest with you i wasn't expecting any games to come remotely close to even incorporating let alone challenging doom eternal in this aspect that was until i came across ultra kill ultra kill is a very interesting game it is the game that besides doom eternal has been able to give me this type of [ __ ] how do you say this without sounding sexual it it's a good game without getting ahead of myself let's talk about accessibility because unfortunately as of right now ultrakill is only available in early access on steam and as of right now it is 20 usd and once this game gets out of early access the price is most likely going to double it is for sure going to increase but what it's going to be at is yet to be determined i will say though in its current state well worth doubling the price this game from my understanding is actually developed by one person which god damn a whole team made anthem and one guy apparently made this game i don't know if that's true but jesus christ triple the price if this is true so anyways ultra kill is a fast paced fps game reading off its description it's a fast-paced ultra-violent old-school fps that fuses together classic shooters like quake modern shooters like doom 2016 and character action games like devil may cry which graphically you can't see the inspiration of quake in you know the original doom games but contrary to how it looks it's very much a modern day shooter the movement in the combat was kind of why i was liking it to doom eternal just like doom eternal in this game you have to master the movement and then master the combat which also promotes weapon swapping and flashy ways of eliminating all those stupid enough to come at you the flashier the kills the better the combos the higher the score and that's where i'm assuming the touch from devil may cry comes into play with this nice stylistic combo meter at least that's what i'm assuming never played that much devil may cry now there's actually kind of a lot to talk about this game so first and foremost let's talk about the movement you have your basic forward backwards left and right strafe buttons there is no running however you do have a slide button and a dash mechanic the slide is infinite there's no stamina bar or cooldown on it however the downside to it is when you're sliding you can't regenerate your dashes that's kind of frozen your dash is on the other hand you have three you can nash three times consecutively or you can dash in slow intervals and then just wait for it to regenerate and then you can use it again you also have this small platforming mechanic where you can basically jump off walls three times consecutively until you hit the ground and then once hitting the ground you're able to do it all over again this mechanic is actually used in some of the levels in reaching the next area but for the most part it's actually very useful in combat being able to slide on the ground up to a wall jump up attach yourself on the wall jump off dash once or twice to dodge enemy projectiles while raining down shots of your own or while in mid-air you can also parry enemy attacks by using one of the two arms that the game gives you the first one is very basic you can use it essentially as a light melee attack or you can use it as a little bit of a stronger offensive weapon as i mentioned you can parry enemy attacks it does take a little getting used to to timing these things just right but if you can it's definitely satisfying because if you can get the angles just right or get enemies bunched up together one parry attack can result in a very satisfying explosion [Music] and the beauty of it is none of this disrupts your movement and likewise none of this disrupts your combat so long as you're capable of dodging enemy shots shooting and somehow trying to successfully accomplish a parry at the exact same time you're 100 fully capable of doing so the game isn't gonna hinder you in any way speaking of combat the game does not have any pickups whatsoever minus maybe a few secrets that you can find throughout the levels and maybe a power-up that overcharges your health but nothing in terms of ammunition and health regeneration in case you haven't noticed in the gameplay by now the game does supply you with a health bar which is right above your dash meter and the way you regenerate your health is probably one of the most unique aspects of this game in order to refill your health and ultra kill you have to literally be showered in fresh blood or in other words bathe in the blood of your enemies as you're mowing them down corpses don't count so you can't clear out an entire arena run up to a headline on the floor and spray at it hoping that you'll end up at max health before the next wave of enemies it doesn't work like that and i absolutely love this mechanic not only is it bloody and gory and just amazing to watch blood paint the walls on the floor and body parts go flying but this mechanic promotes you to be smart and in a way it forces you to plan ahead for when you're going to get in the face of certain enemies for a nice little health boost sliding head on into a crowd of enemies while spraying the nail gun which is this game's closest thing to a machine gun or firing off the nail gun's alternate fire mode which which every gun in this game has an alternate fire mode which i'll talk about a little bit but the nail guns attractor variation fires off magnets which the game doesn't tell you this you can have multiple magnets at any one time and every nail you fire near the magnet it's going to obviously attract it and the bigger these magnets get the closer they are to each other they're going to actually connect and start moving in these weird patterns that whenever anything runs into is going to be torn to shreds so you basically can set up these nice little traps with just the nail gun and its magnet allow these magnets to get bigger and bigger controlling more and more of the arena bait enemies to run into these traps which is basically just [ __ ] nails flying all over the place slide into them while they're being torn to shreds and while you're sliding into them you can switch to your shotgun specifically the shotgun corey jack which this shotgun's alternate fire mode is a grenade launcher so while you're being bathed by these enemies blood you can basically finish off anyone outside this trap with a nice little shot from this grenade launcher once you fire that off you can switch the pistol you can switch back to the nail gun you can switch to the rail gun as i said all these guns have infinite ammo the only thing is the alternate fire modes do have a small cooldown which hey conveniently you can bypass by switching to a different weapon so that really doesn't even matter kinda goes back to a little bit of promoting player creativity now in the game's current build there's a total of four weapons each weapon has two variations with the exception of the railgun and the difference in variation from weapon to weapon or weapon type to weapon type is essentially just their alternate firing mode which for the pistols you have two the first one is a charged three beam shot the second one is a revolver which its alternate mode throws a coin in the air and if you manage to actually shoot that coin the bullet gets deflected to the closest enemy's weak point the next category you have shotguns the first one is a quarry jack that i talked about which is basically a grenade launcher you also have a shotgun pump charge which pumping your shotgun increases the power of the shotgun but decreases your accuracy you can also kill yourself if you pump the shotgun too much then you have the nail guns which is the attractor firing the magnets and then the other version which is a heatsink which fires off a burst of high damage and then finally you have the railgun which is the only weapon currently that has three variations you have the electric base version which fires a powerful instant piercing shot that can't be fired in the water i'm assuming because you'll end up killing yourself the other version i actually don't have any gameplay of it but i've played with it essentially it's called the screwdriver and that one works amazingly well on enemies that have high health pulls there are boss fights in this game so to melt a boss in a matter of seconds if you can hit him with this which is going to consistently do damage over time and then set up two magnet traps from the nail gun and then follow that up with say a grenade launcher from the shotgun you'll mount him in a matter of seconds and then the final version of the railgun is called the malicious essentially that one is perfect for crowd control on impact it's going to generate a giant explosion and then finally i kind of brushed over this very quickly there are two different arm variations as well the first one is the one you start out with for lighter melee attacks and parrying projectiles and then you have another one that you get later down the line that yes moves a little bit slower and has a heavier melee attack to it but its usefulness comes from its alternate mode which essentially if you hold down the melee button it's going to create a shock wave it blows up shotgun shells in your hand pushing enemies back while showering you in a little bit of their blood as you can see it also has a nice little combat advantage if enemies are on the edge of a high ledge you don't even have to fire at them you can basically get in their face and blow them away with your little hand cannon the only downside to this though is if you're not paying attention there are some areas throughout the game that the floor is actually made of glass panels and if you're not paying attention this shock wave will blow those glass panels out from underneath you potentially killing yourself or in this neat little arena you're basically constantly vortexing landing back on this platform it's bs actually enough dying there normally when you fall off an edge in this game it immediately just kills you but in this clip they they [ __ ] respond me and i wasn't expecting that so touche all in all for a 20 buy in price i highly recommend this game i think the foundation is solid and once this game does come out of early access it's going to be an amazing game the only real downside i have is because it's in early access you only have access to 15 levels which is this game's entire prelude and act one this early version also consists of eight bosses and eight enemies on top of the four weapons and two to three weapon variations that we already talked about once it comes out of early access there's going to be a whole another two acts which i believe they said every act is going to consist of 10 levels so about 22 to 24 extra levels once you take a secret levels into consideration i'm also assuming there's going to be more weapons and along with that more enemies and more bosses on the surface right now for 20 bucks it doesn't sound like you're getting much but because of the player creativity and how much freedom you have in approaching these fights there's a lot more replayability than meets the eye not to mention in the current build you have access to cyber grind which is this game's version of an endless wave based game mode and all the clips i've been showing where i'm basically on this platform where all these blocks are gray has been from this game mode and i love it it is amazing playing this it's hard to think so much about doom eternal because again you have weapon swapping you have dashing you're trying to constantly stay fluid while chain all these crazy kills and there was a clip where i was actually thrown out of the map because my shotgun hit an enemy's projectile and it killed him but it threw me kind of into the [ __ ] stratosphere and when that happened you only have three dashes to try and come back and again if you fall off the edge it's game over so during this instance i i felt like something like the meat hook or if you can attach yourself to an enemy or anything like that to improve on player fluidity i think that would do the game wonders i'd also say if you do own the game or you decide to play it don't immediately jump into cyber grind that's meant for end game content when you run through what is available right now and it's a good idea to get all the base versions of every single gun because in cyber grind you're gonna get the bosses from the game thrown into the mix with the normal enemies and facing all them with just the base pistol is not fun at all anyway some closing notes to the devs if anything what they should do is add in some extra content to really grind for right now as far as stability goes i haven't had any issues with performance or anything like that the game has ran like a dream i mean it doesn't look graphically anyways like it's gonna be all that demanding but in cyber grind i would like for the enemy count to be doubled at the very least i've never seen more than nine enemies at once and i think this game can definitely handle double if not triple the amount and because it's all about promoting stylist points and getting your score up and cyber grind is supposed to be the epitome of scoring insane points what they should do is add in more things to spend your points on because right now even with six hours underneath my belt i have all of the weapons and all of the weapon variations now does that mean i'm a pro with all of them [ __ ] no but that just means right now i've played enough to acquire everything that's available to me and i would like more things to spend my points on but anyways that's gonna wrap it up for this video let me know what you guys think down in the comment section below if you guys played ultra kill if you guys have what you guys think about it if you guys haven't what do you think about the gameplay you know hearing about the combat personally i'm a huge fan of it i think it has tons of potential and even if it doesn't have that much content now the early buy-in price is definitely going to pay off in the long run and let me know if you guys want some more ultra kill videos i was going to actually make an ign review but considering i did watch mojo yesterday i thought it'd be weird to do two parodies back to back so an ign review is still coming probably sometime this week but let me know if you guys want some more ultra kill videos but like always guys my name is cynic thank you all so much for watching but until next time see y'all later
