there came a point during the Thousand-Year blood War Arc where the entire bleach Universe was about to end and it appeared as though all hope was lost for the Shinigami chapter 616 of the manga delivers a major plot twist during bleach's final Arc where ukitake is thrust into the spotlight during The Darkest Hours of the war against the Quincy those of you who are familiar with bleach story will know that this is where Kubo really lets loose and illustrates the devastation and Chaos that ensues once yobak has fulfilled his mission of killing the Soul King in this video I'm going to be analyzing the pivotal role that ukitake plays during the Thousand-Year blood War AR I'll be uncovering loads of details that you didn't know about his character and be sure to stick around until the end of the video because I'm going to be taking a deep dive into how ukitake's Destiny was predetermined from very early on in his life I'll also be examining how the right arm of the Soul king of mimihagi operates and last but not least I will be breaking down why yobak shrift ability the almighty was unable to foresee mimihagi temporarily putting a stop to his plans to destroy the soul Society huo Mundo and the world of the living so without further delay here is my breakdown on UK's role during the Thousand-Year blood War [Music] Arc yido ukitake is the captain of the 13th division of the goate 13 and his long tenure within the soul Society is frequently interrupted by his bouts of illness when he is sick he has to spend days recuperating at his family state in Ugo and it does make you wonder how this man even achieved the rank of Captain if he is so sick all of the time in contrast to being sick there are several moments within bleach but we do get to see him showcase his abilities and this has led to some fans wondering if Kubo really had given his character enough screen time during the final Arc of the manga several fans were disappointed that we didn't get to see his Bankai reveal and in general his character didn't live up to our expectations but despite this he's still one of the most beloved characters within the bleach Universe due to his calm gentle and wise demeanor though not always at the front and center of the action his character is utilized by Kubo to symbolize hope which we had seen when he had teamed up with shunu in order to put an end to rukia's execution during the soul Society Arc this had really left me with a positive impression of ukitake's character his contribution during the Thousand-Year blood War Arc is something that cannot be understated as he literally ended up saving the entire world from shattering to Pieces before I deep dive into details about ukitake's backstory I wanted to go over what had happened during the Thousand-Year blood War Arc right before ukitake had made his appearance between chapters 597 to 611 of the manga we see how the Quincy had successfully invaded the Royal Palace from Asin versus oetsu Naya in chapter 602 to the fight between ichibe and yobak that begins in chapter 605 these chapters are packed full of explosive action unexpected deaths and a myriad of various abilities being revealed on both sides of the battlefield with the weight of squad zero bearing down upon him it is imperative for us to understand how yuab Baka tipped the skills in his favor thanks to his utilization of his broken ability the almighty by the end of chapter 603 yobak and hashad had made it to the S King's Palace the sternritters who were left behind quickly figured out that yobak no longer has any need for them after they had just barely survived the light of as swalling that yobak had cast over them this is the Quincy leaders unique ability to reclaim and or redistribute the spiritual powers of other quincies it absorbs energy from the Quincy who are judged to be unnecessary and it sends the power to those who need it the Quincy whose power was taken will end up perishing whilst the ones bestowed with power will be revitalized Yak is also able to increase his spiritual pressure and that of his fellow sternritters via this method and after having just casted asalin he is now ready to fight against the members of the zero division at the beginning of the second invasion of the won Reich ukitake was not present on the battlefield instead he was Far outside of the seres Border ERS with his two assistant captains K and centauro they were encased inside of a shrine deep in the forests we see him again in chapter 64 when he meets with shunsui in the Ser surrounded by Rubble ukitake notices that the quiny have now invaded the Royal Palace and it is here where he reveals that he has prepared kamik Kake in anticipation for this so we are now beginning to understand why he was in that Shrine during the second Quincy Invasion Now ukitake does not elaborate on what this means but we know that it must be some sort of a ritual due to the Eerie dark shadow of an eye that stretches behind him ukitake states that the kamake was a success but shunu notices that it must be taking a huge toll on him in chapter 605 ichibe and yobak continue their battle as yobak is almost defeated thanks to the power of ichib zako ichimonji ichibe uses his ability to strip Yu habak of his name by covering him in Black Ink however yabaki is able to prevent his own death using the power of His shrift ability he has bestowed upon himself the letter A as a shrift and the power that is being given to this letter is the power of the almighty this is the very first time that we see this unique power displayed in battle and we learned that it enables yobak to see and alter the future as well as consume the power of others you have to understand that uak is now practically unbeatable because this is the same power that the soul King had utilized in order to maintain the cycle of reincarnation thus explaining why the soul King has multiple irises within his eye and why yobak has multiple irises when he activates the almighty some distance away from the battle hashad explains to Udu that yak's eyes have now been truly opened this is due to the fact that upon his defeat 1,000 years ago after a failed attempt to defeat the Shinigami yobak had entered into a state of deep hibernation for 999 years he had remained in this state of near death until his heart had started beating again after 900 years and after he had reclaimed his sanity after 90 years he had then reclaimed claimed his power after 9 years if Yak had reopened his eyes before the 9 years of power were over then he may have lost the ability to utilize the allmighty which would have resulted in all of the power that he has bestowed upon the St Ritter to have forcefully returned back to him however he had kept his eyes closed for the sake of his Stern and now that the N9 years of power have come to an end yabaki is able to utilize his powers at full capacity we see how his ability manifests Itself by the multiple red irises that appear on every corner of his eyes you is able to take out ich in a very graphic illustration that showcases his body imploding with the entirety of squad zero now defeated yobak turns his gaze to the chambers of the Soul King by the time we reach chapter 611 Ichigo orime ganu and Chad have already made their way to the Royal Palace here they encounter the corpse of ich and when Ichigo resurrects the priest by stating his name the deceptive leader of the zero division urges Ichigo to stop yuab Bak however he knows that this is an impossible feed as he is seen apologizing once Ichigo and his friends depart in chapter 612 ukitake makes his final appearance in the midst of urahara's lab after performing some medical procedures urahara is secretly devising a plan for the Shinigami to Ram their way into the Royal Palace by assembling all of the captains and vice captains urahara plans to use the combination of the Heavenly armor the platform that myi had made and the Shinigami combined spiritual pressure in order to catapult their way into the royal Palace by using a gate that directly connects their location with the Royal Palace in chapter 614 Ichigo and Company finally confront yobak in the chambers of the Soul King but unfortunately they were too late it is revealed that yobak has already impaled the soul King with his sword as he taunts Ichigo into removing the sword however right after Ichigo pulls out UAB bak's sword from the soul King's chest he swiftly cuts down the soul King with the sword which cuts the sustainer of the bleach Universe into two pieces while blutv appears to be visible on ichigo's hand yobak explains that he had sent some of his ratu into ichigo's body when he had pulled out the sword and as a result the Quincy blood that's flowing through his body had forced him to unwillingly attack the soul King this causes utter destruction and Mayhem as in chapter 615 which is titled All Is Lost we see that the Realms of hundo the dangai the world of the living and the Soul Society begin to crumble this is because the soul King is no longer able to fulfill his key Duty which was to bind all of the worlds together and to create a balance amongst the Realms with the soul King practically dead everything within the bleach universe is about to be destroyed due to the unstable amount of spiritual pressure that is being created from the huge number of souls that are flowing into and out of the Soul Society the soul King is no longer present to maintain a balance of the souls when orime tries to use her powers to revive the soul King she completely fails as yobak gleefully exclaims that the soul King can never be returned back back to life now now this is what leads to ukitake's major role within the Thousand-Year blood War Arc just when it appears as though all hope is lost the captain of the 13th division Reveals His plan to take the place of the Soul King he unveils a symbol on his back as ukitake UNS his zako and calls upon the name of the deity mimihagi causing the kamik Kake to transform into a huge eye which hovers above him we then cut to a flashback of ukitake's childhood where we see him lying on a bed we know noticed that his mouth is filled with foam it is then revealed that he was one of three children but he had suffered from an illness of the lungs which had left his hair discolored as we learned that he should have died back then but his grandmother a deeply superstitious woman had carried him to the shrine of Mimi Hai and had performed a right to offer his lungs to the deity it was thanks to this intervention that his life was ultimately spared and it is the reason why he was able to become strong enough to enlist into the go 133 we see ukitake violently cough up some blood as he explains that this deity has been consuming his lungs the ritual that he had spoke of kamik Kake is performed to allow Mimi haag's power to spread to the rest of his body's organs meaning that all of his internal organs will now belong to this God ukitake's story is so heartbreaking because we all know where this is going he needs to give back what this God had given him all those years ago as he is now just a vessel he is the right hand of the Soul King ukitake had been preparing for this day ever since he had found out how he survived he expresses zero regrets as he comes to terms with the fact that he is about to die the next few manga panels here are very difficult to read as we see the impact of this ritual on ukitake the captain shrieks violently as blood pulls out from his mouth as we see mimihagi ascend from his torso it's painful to witness the Black Mass oozing through every orifice of his body ukitake's body is visibly drained of every ounce of spiritual pressure as his once healthy and full body is reduced to that of a skeletal figure the captains and vice captains watch on in horror as mimihagi ascends through the sky of the ser and into the Royal Palace the shaking then appears to have stopped as we quickly begin to understand why mimihagi wraps itself around the remains of the Soul King as it helps to bring him back together the black eye of mimihagi envelops the sphere which contains the soul King temporarily offering some stability to the three separate Realms therefore we Now understand that ukit Taki's role within the Thousand-Year blood warar AR was to offer up his own body as a noble sacrifice and to prevent the entire universe from shattering to pieces now having understood this I believe that it is important for us to uncover the origins of this deity who we learn is in fact the right arm of the Soul King mimihagi had become a God that was worshiped within sakone which was the 76th District of East rukongai within volume three of the Kia own world light novels ich explains the history of the Soul King noting how the ancestors of these Sun yashiro family were afraid of the Soul King's Powers they had feared that if the soul King had become too powerful then he would one day be able to overpower the seal that was placed upon him and then destroy the members of the noble families to prevent this the ancestors from the five Great noble families did not let the soul King live or die but instead they had trapped him into a state where he was neither alive nor fully dead during this process to trap the soul King they had also taken away his arms that governed Stillness and advancement and eventually the severed right arm would come to be worshiped as a deity known as mimihagi whilst the left arm would become Stern with to see the compulsory perida as explained by ukitake mimihagi bestows blessings upon those who offer him anything aside from an eye since the deity already possesses his own in turn Mimi Hog's Powers stop the progression of whatever illness is afflicting the person's body and it extends their life for a finite amount of years considering that ukitake is one of the oldest captains in the goate 13 we can assume that ukitake was in possession of Mimi Hai for just under 1,000 years ukitake's lungs were offered up to the de which had allowed him to continue living but it is important to note that he would often cough up blood and become too fatigued or get out of breath for long periods of time mimihagi is manifested as a humanoid creature with a torso that looks eily like an arm and a right fist with a huge single eye on the back of the Fist Mimi haag's outfit consists of a dark robe with a simple tunic thrown across its upper torso when Mimi hogi is revealed to US during the Thousand-Year blood War Arc he lacks a physical body and instead appears as an entity made up of RI in the shape of a dark shadow we learn that mimihagi governs Stillness which means that ukitake was correct in his assumption that the deity would be able to put back together the soul King's body this is because mimihagi can halt absolutely any process stopping development growth change and progress it can accomplish this by full ful the integrating with whatever being that it is attached to the main reason why yobak was taken aback by Mimi haag's appearance is because his shrift ability the almighty was not able to foresee what action mimihagi would take here this is credited to one of Mimi haag's main powers which is known as precognitive immunity with this ability mimihagi similarly to the soul King is unable to be affected by the foreseeing powers of the almighty thankfully this prevents it from making an appearance in any of yak's Visions another power that mimihagi shares with the soul King is the ability to see into the future which also helps it to counter against the powers of the almighty in chapter 618 we see mimihagi possess the power to erect a barrier of darkness when yobak tries to attack yobak notes that in addition to all of this mimihagi is able to consume him through assimilating with him however the Quincy leader ends up assimilating mimihagi instead the kamik Kake or in other words the Divine vow ritual that ukitake performs is only only a temporary solution to prevent the soul King from dying the effects of mimihagi will end once ukitake dies and so the deity is no longer able to fulfill its Duty now that we have a better understanding of what mimihagi is I want to now turn our attention over to the outcome of ukitake sacrifice and what kind of an impact ukitake's actions had upon the rest of the Thousand-Year blood warar Arc Within Chapter 67 uak is astonished at the fact that he was unable to foresee the arrival of mimihagi he angry questions mimihagi and wonders if the right arm of the Soul King has now developed some affection for the soul Society after governing it for all of these years mimihagi does not respond but instead closes its eyes the deity was able to escape the sight of yobak Almighty because of an apparent Synergy that it had managed to maintain with the soul King The Almighty is able to view the future which is a progression of time without the aspect of progression mimihagi can avoid appearing in a future that responds naturally to the passage of time time now if you recall this is because Mimi hogi governs Stillness without this progression of time Mimi hogi is able to remain undetected by the almighty because it relies on the natural passage of time to foresee the future I want to now go into greater detail about UAB bak's inability to foree mimihagi in order to better understand what is going on we need to delve into the nuanced interpretations of seeing there's a distinction between merely observing and comprehending what is observed we all know that UOB bak's name is rooted in the Hebrew name for God Yahweh in Hebrew there are two terms that describe the act of seeing the first Raha signifies physical sight insight into the Supernatural and even the Divine contrastingly the second term chazon pertains explicitly to a prophet's Vision akin to a symbolic Daydream of potential events Raa represents a direct observation of an event either within the past or the future which is free from any symbolic or metaphorical imagery which is typical of a prophetic Vision the key difference between these terms lies in their depth of understanding while Raha offers a clear unobstructed view of an event chazon provides a vision embellished with symbols enriching the viewers understanding I've spoken about all of this to basically explain that yobak did not understand the significance of mimihagi appearing in front of him and had prevented the fall of the Soul King in chapter 616 yobak misinterprets Mimi hai's nature mistakenly identifying it as the soul King by chapter 6 20 he further notes the absence of the Soul King's will in a severed limb these observations allude to yobak struggling to fully comprehend the events that were unfolding though he might observe occurrences through the almighty specific attributes can obstruct his full understanding which ultimately prevents him from fully understanding what is going on and this is exactly what mimihagi was able to accomplish back in urahara's lab ccio notices that the kamik Kake ritual wasn't able to achieve its full purpose despite the fact that it had provided temporary stability we quickly learn that ukitake is still not a complete replacement for the soul King noting that the stability will only last as long as ukitake's life does urahara admits that this is his first time hearing of the kamake ritual ukitake's fate for now is left unspoken whilst urahara continues to Race Against Time in order to stabilize the soul Society meanwhile within the Royal Palace after the right arm of the Soul King prevents the soul Society from crumbling by enveloping the soul King's remains yobak attempts to attack it in chapter 620 but in a surprising turn of events mimihagi counters seemingly trying to engulf yobak who is visibly taken back given that both mimihagi and perida are sentient fragments of the Soul King they are both able to fully Express that own free will this is the reason behind Mimi hai's defensive stance against yobak who is the son of the Soul King yobak sculls the de mocking mimihagi for the fact that it cannot see the difference in their power he states that not only is he far stronger but that he will take its power for himself yobak then proceeds to consume both mimihagi and the Soul King disrupting The Fragile piece that mimihagi had momentarily established and before too long the soul Society begins crumbling once again chapter 621 title the dark curtain reveals mimihagi being forcibly pulled out of ukitake who then collapses to the ground as he loses Consciousness we can see how mimihagi slowly disappears meaning that yobak has begun to absor ABB the soul King ukitake is left in a pool of water as he is surrounded by his assistant captains centauro and Kon in the next panels we see a pitch black shadow spreading across the sky within the Ser yobak completely absorbs the entirety of the Soul King and his powers this power proves too intense for him to handle to the extent that the flood of the Soul King's power overflows out of yak's body despite ukitake's Valiant efforts and the temporary stabilization from the kamake ritual he tragic ially loses his life unable to Halt yobak from absorbing all of the Soul King and his powers this is a really heartbreaking moment for a fan favorite captain and I do sometimes wish that ukit Taki's sacrifice did in fact add more weight in order to tip the scale in favor of the Shinigami during the war shortly after the Thousand-Year blood War Arc we got some closure for ukit Taki's character when we see shunu paying a visit to his grave in chapter 685 it appears as though Kubo had wanted to give his character a bit more scream time because we learned that ukitake is revived within the one shot special chapter no breaths from Hell 12 years following his sacrifice shuni and the other members of the goate 13 gear up to perform a conso ray a special Soul burial ceremony right before ukitake's grave this intricate ritual is an alternative to the traditional conso and it is reserved for captains of the go13 who fall in battle it is performed 12 years after the death of a goate 13 Captain a shinigami's body is made up of Rishi and once they die they transform back into RI merging once again with the soil of the Soul Society the term Ray translates to Spiritual Authority historically it was a measurement unit favored by S society's nobility indicating the density of ratu in RI to put this into perspective shunsui elaborates that a regular Shinigami in the goate 13 typically holds a ray grade of 20 or above in contrast Vice captains fluctuate between grades three and four while generally Captain Clash Shinigami have a ray grade of three and above due to their intense ratu concentrations these Elites cannot simply return to the Earth the Shinigami learned within the academy that the only way to return such dense RI into the soil is via the conso ray ritual however the true purpose of the conso ray is far darker than what we could have imagined because in actuality it sends the Departed captains Straight to Hell the difference between this ceremony and a normal console is that the current captain and lieutenants have to capture a hollow and purify it in front of the grave of the deceased Captain so whilst shuni and his fellow Shinigami unite in front of his grave in the human world Ichigo and the other Shinigami are forced to kill Hollows that have broken out of hell thereby unknowingly completing the conso ray ceremony and finally sending the former captain of the 13th division into hell once he has been cast into hell ukitake intervenes in xop pooll Grand's battle against Ichigo as we see an in en larged Soo kwari impal the aranka through the chest and pull him back through the Gates of Hell ukitake's unforeseen end and subsequent Revival hints that Kubo has Grand plans for the future of his character while ukitake's Revival in the One-Shot chapter released a few years back was a pleasant surprise many fans feel that his involvement within the Thousand-Year blood warar Arc didn't do justice to his character a common complaint that I hear from many fans of bleach is the fact that we did not get to see ukitake's Bankai at any point during the entire series the unrealized potential of his character coupled with an Abrupt conclusion left a bitter taste for many fans always held ukitake shun and unana in high regard often thinking of them as the mightiest captains within the bleach narrative but despite this the peak of ukitake's battle press was witnessed when we had seen him deflect a few of Stark's sarrow during the fake kakura Town Arc after this he was swiftly defeated by wonderwise the consensus seems to be that Kubo utilized UK AK mainly as a narrative tool to save both the soul society and Ichigo by preventing the destruction of the bleach Universe in spite of this Noble sacrifice yobak ended up absorbing mimihagi anyway his death served no other purpose than to power up the villain who was already strong enough to end ichay with a single look had he not done the kamake ritual you can argue that yobak might not have grown to be so powerful we have to remind ourselves that ukitake was plagued by a debilitating illness throughout the series everybody within the the goate 13 knew that he could not sustain a fight for a long period of time especially if it was a one-on-one battle against one of the Stan despite being amongst the eldest and most powerful go 13 captains ukitake's prolonged existence was primarily due to mimihagi replacing his lungs even so his health was perpetually declining kubo's choice for ukitake to die heroically defending the Ser feels very appropriate and I think we've had enough hints from Kubo and the anime staff that ukitake's role will hopefully be expanded upon in core 3 of the Thousand-Year blood War Arc anime in addition to this we know that he will be playing quite a prominent role within the hell Arc which is yet to release so this is definitely not the last time that we have seen ukitake before we wrap things up I want to analyze the symbolic importance of mimihagi and why Kubo heavily relies on religious imagery during ukitake's kamik Kake ritual numerous cultures draw a distinction between the left and right paths spanning Traditions like Voodoo Buddhism Christianity and west esotericism one must either choose the right path or the left path but not both in the context of the Thousand Year blood warar a we see that many characters are faced with a choice to either go against the soul Society or to die fighting for it mimihagi and perida the right and left arms of the Soul King fit this dichotomy perfectly mimihagi the right arm of the Soul King represents the path of righteousness within the story it is manifested not out of an egotistical desire to prove how powerful it is but instead we see it materialized due to the noble actions of ukitake who wishes to prevent the end of the world fascinatingly we find out that mimihagi has been sustaining ukitake's life for many years mimihagi governs stagnation and we can deduce that mimihagi is content with things staying the way that they are unlike perida who governs progress the Shinigami Quincy conflict is ultimately a conflict which represents the battle between progress and stagnation the intense feud between the Shinigami and the Quincy reflects this inher parent struggle between stagnation and progress this is why yobak shock at Mimi hai's defense of the Soul King hints at a larger thematic and narrative Arc emphasizing the ultimate need for balance within the world it is also fascinating to note that both of the arms of the Soul King exhibit an insatiable urge to consume body parts with Mimi huggi offering life in exchange for a body part and similarly we had seen parida consuming the remains of Neu we have no idea as to why the limbs of the Soul King desire to consume other body parts no reason has been given within the manga but from a judeo-christian perspective we can view this act of cannibalism as an expression of power in the Book of Revelations the Beast that is cast into hell is seen to be devouring followers of Christ so it may be just me but I firmly believe that Kubo wanted to heighten the sense of ethereal Doom that accompanies these Divine beings in summary ukitake's Destiny to save the soul Society was determined from a very early age his sacrifice was truly heart breaking however this had allowed the shinig armi to gain an upper hand during the Thousand-Year blood War Arc only for a brief moment we see how Kubo expertly weaves the themes of life and death Free Will and fate into these gripping chapters despite the controversy surrounding his wasted potential it's important to compare the intentions behind ukitake's Noble act with the ultimate result of the battle I'm convinced that ukitake's demise served a greater purpose and hopefully the Thousand-Year blood War Arc anime can reveal this to us hopefully from this video you you've learned a lot more about ukitake's role in the Thousand Year blood War Arc as well as more details about mimihagi there was a lot of thematic analysis and comparison to religious imagery while a lot of it is theorizing I feel like it makes sense in the context of ukitake's role in the Thousand-Year blood War Arc what do you think about yobak and his failure to foresee the intervention of mimihagi did you learn more about ukitake and what the kamik Kake ritual was meant for was there anything about the role of ukitake in bleach's final Arc that I have forgotten to mention definitely let me know by continuing the the discussion in the comments and
