[Music] two [Music] [Music] oh [Music] big [Music] all roads lead to the araneta coliseum for game one of the finals in the women's volleyball tournament of season 79 of the uap and the finals has been dominated in the last five seasons by only two teams and despite today being a hectic tuesday people are flocking in deep captains gia morado and kim fajardo they have a heavy load on their backs to try to bring their respective teams to the promised land it's game number one of the best of three between the lady eagles and the ladies spikers and six straight finals between these two teams and nine uh ninth straight finals appearance for dlsu and what a historic moment this will be for the fans who made it here to the venue that is what is on tap this tuesday afternoon brand new month but maxino we'll be talking to our reporters denise desai from ateneo and escudero from dlsu good luck ladies but coach ronnie these two teams they've put together such a great program that for six straight seasons including today they both have made it to the top to contest for the championship and there's no doubt that these two elite schools are the yardstick in terms of competition in the women's division and they have frustrated the sixth other school in being able to gate crash a spot in the finals in the last five years only this the school from katipunan and from topham squared of course had to head out la manassa saturday in the last five years three championships to the two of ateneo we'll talk about history in just a little bit let's bring you to the here and now the road to the finals for these two teams it was littered with opponents but they dispatched their respective ones immediately de la salle winning versus ust de la salle having a twice a bit advantage versus the tigers who were able to get into the semi-finals for the first time the last five years but even if lasalle was in the eye of the storm versus usd they were able to get to the finals with a three one victory versus usd on the other side of the draw atonement made sure that they will not be taken to five sets by fbu if he was hoping to get that uh series into a decider hindi again it is obviously very cliche uh and we use that all the time but we throw away the statistics when it comes to a match-up between the lady eagles and the lady spikers but we have to go by history and based on their uh matchups this elimination round ateneo has dominated lasalle and in great fashion four sets in each of their two meetings and this is where athenaeu will try to draw inspiration by the way they were able to come from behind as they were able to get past lasallian four sets in the first meeting while also being able to defeat de la salle in their second round matchup in the first round meeting de la salle had the upper hand in the first two sets but eventually ateneo disallowed nassau from winning each of the first two sets and eventually nothing of frustrated lasalle and was able to bring down the defending champions in four grueling sets has been a dominant force on the offensive event but it was catalantino who was the difference maker for ateneo in that win pursuit of going now to the round two meeting too many errors for lasalle in that ground to match up as a whole they had 67 total unforced errors in the first two meetings second round match-up angela but in the last three sets it was jules zamonte who provided the the difference and she was the game changer for ateneo as they frustrated de la salle for two straight times the first two meeting stila this season 79. well mitch morenta you mentioned her 39 points combined right those two meetings for her meanwhile akiana d with 15 a piece support those players i mean both teams both defenses will try to nullify the effect of those players right now essentially kasama erik it's going to be ateneo's depth and offense versus lasalle's precious [Music] defense in the last five beatings in the finals lasalle had a 3-2 adventure has a 3-2 advantage that's 55 chance of winning the finals versus ateneo and uh we look back since season 74 uh and how it has gone down for these two teams in the last nine years only four schools have managed to win a championship of course lasalle uh in that category but right now lasalle is looking probably for their fifth title or sixth round in the last nine years ateneo likes to regain the title that lasalle took away from them last year and fdu at ust was in the hand was in the list of title holders in the uav before the stranglehold happened paraditus and this is the checkered history between anthony and de la salle in the last five years something that ateneo aims to rewrite and something that de la salle wants to write the same storyline in their bid to defend and regain rather defend and frustrate ateneo in this season and they do well here in the finals all right we'll take a quick break and when we go back we're going to break down ateneo and the lady eagles and how they did in the volleyball departments in season 79. back here at the araneta coliseum for game number one between ateneo and dlsu let's talk about ateneo and how good they are we mentioned this already coach ronnie how good they are offensively and serving but they do have some aspects that they need to improve and can't be exploited by the lsu in this game number one ateneo has the best offense so far and the competition they've proven that they are one of the tougher teams to be simply because low dead and dimming points of attack and of course excellent playmaker india morado right now we talk about ateneo's game versus fu they disallowed feu from dragging them into another fight setter here's this match that saw ateneo sort of fight that riptide throat thrown at them by a field mitch morente led the way in scotland with a total of 16 points followed by johanna marginot who had 14 points in their comeback after missing the last two outings ateneo survived the double-digit outings of ponz and remy palmer accounted for 26 of the total uh point production of fu and it this game it i think it did not just rely on their offense because i thought that in the last two sets fdu that only was able to beat ateneo in september three but therefore you had a chance to turn that match around but eventually voice composure championship experience set in for ateneo and they were able to finally shut the door and nephews campaigned the season and they actually even avoided a five-setter which they wouldn't take versus was tough and of course see dina wong was also there to save the day for ateneo and once again they were led by the composure and resilience and stability of giamorado now we mentioned the offenses take a look at the numbers of ateneo and how they rank in uab season 79. season 79. after the double round emulation right now 37.8 we'll talk about their spike percentage number one in the entire competition return in terms of blocks with a total of 23 kill blocks throughout the day so far this season number five silent two of the top players right now didn't talk about service races the game has to be really at a high for ateneo in their battle versus assault but they have a superior weapon in terms of offense in gmorado likewise we talk about reception and of course dinawal will try to help out they don't see mitch morente in shutting down the offense of the lsr let's take a look at again the offense of ateneo we really put a spotlight on that and how they performed versus feu okay their final four meeting uh you mentioned morente not to miss two games uh because of a knee injury and that baya deleon who has been consistent all throughout the season and these are the top three scorers for ateneo so far this season mitch morente is a 12 and a half point scorer so far for ateneo in that match versus fbu she had three of ateneo's eight aces plus one kill block 22 year old player from pw jason's eternal massive john number two scorer for ateneo this year with a total of 146 points that's almost 10.4 points per game for the 21 year old della salipa uh [Music] 146 points for this third year player hola mansa veda learning center well these are the ladies that need to be defended by a dlsu here in game number one if they are to try and limit the production of ateneo yes and this will be the points of attack that lasalle has to watch las alas to guard six to eight percent of the attack points of ateneo in that queen versus fu came from this three explosive players now we mentioned the achilles heel of ateneo is their defense more especially their libero situation and they have been trying out uh different players after giselle tan they have diana wong who's been manning the uh defensive end for ateneo as they are currently ranked fifth in uh floor defense there's no doubt that don mccandile is the barometer in terms of the defensive stopper to watch in the last two years dina wong will try to help out jason as the defensive specialists for ateneo versus final four but late in the second round it was already dino was able to help out the floor defense of uh atheneo and versus evie and the semis she had 30 of the total stops because of dicks 50 in terms of ateneo's total excellent receptions and she is going to be an ace defender that will be looked upon as a possible defense maker to be able to match up well with don mccandily of the de la salle lady archer well we've got uh denise denzel who spoke earlier to wang about the expectations and uh the game plan today game number one for ateneo dina last game against you know against feu that was your breakout game and you're only a sophomore and then after that you've adjusted your role as libero how did you manage to do it um i think practice long talaga every day tapos believe in yourself and have confidence okay and now knowing that you you know you beat lassal twice during the elimination now what's your game plan for today's game um i think uh mindset number is to focus on winning the championship um no expectations foreign have teamwork focus and let enough confidence thank you dean i'll see you at the game spikers and the lady eagles and people continue to pour in as we pack in the big dome for the big game on a tuesday afternoon and we've been talking about ateneo at length already let's put our attention to the lady spikers good afternoon everybody and uh coming off a quick finish of their opponent ust in the semi-finals or final four match-up that they had lasalle was able to survive the firestorm thrown at them by usd five players scored in double figures for lasalle in that twin versus ust rondina had 16 laureate 14 meneses had 10 for a total 40 points for adidas usd but eventually tin jamswan was able to help out major baron hindi and destroy chang as king fart was the fifth player in double figures for lasalle in that win by lasal vs ust 29 or 28 of delisle's 99 points came from their kill blocks it was a block party for the salt that shut down usd's offense to only 27 percent a slight hiccup for de la salle in that fourth set within luna they were a little distracted but in the fourth set lasalle was in cruise control as they took out any chances for usd to overturn that 2-1 deficit in terms of set count and is that blocking that really kills all the other teams the uap that's just one of the three uh aspects of volleyball that they dominated to lady spikers of the lsu coach ronnie and these uh these figures will definitely be one of the things that lasalle will lean on as they take on nathaniel lazar's defense has been unparalleled so far all season long number one in blocks number one in reception and there's no doubt that majority baron d and of course dopa gonzaga will anchor the net defense for lasalle versus ateneo's little points of attack courtesy of jia morado but we talk about rankings as setters number two morado and season 78 top setter that's a game fajardo but once again john mccandly will be a force to record with in terms of reception nassau's defense will help to work harder in their bid to finally get a game away from matinee remember the winner in game one will move themselves only one win away from being home the crown this year and this girl we talked about her defensive tenacity and don macandidi has been the benchmark of defense you mentioned that it uh see coach rabil desu has nothing but praise for makandili saying she is the person that the coach points to when players look for inspiration any of the dallas our players look for inspiration throughout season 79. last year stop libero also was named as the best libero in her playing years when she used to play foreign floor manager a defensive specialists who try to beat the biggest thorn in ateneo's top offensive ranking 30 percent of lasalle's number of digs versus usd don mccandily and likewise 30 percent of her team's total reception a fourth year player only 20 years old also a top candidate for a spot in the national team come the southeast asian game and when you talk about blocking three players have dominated sophomore duke ogunsanya last year's best blocker major paron in last year's best setter jumps into the mix to help lasalle be solid defensively at the net 27 percent of lasalle's 99 points came from their kill blocks gonzaga with six majority baron with four came for hardy with three are in the top 10 in terms of uh ranking factor things atop lockers when sanji had six of her nine points coming from kill blacks major baron but four for 17 points coming from kill blocks sikkim pardon the man joined the block party scoring three kill blocks out of the 11 total points that she fired paradise lady archers and obviously you look at this and if you're an offensive player you're shaking in your knees because you're wondering how you're going to get your offense through that but that is you know strategizing now let's uh go to beia escudero she earlier spoke to duke about the adjustments that lasalle will make after losing to ateneo twice in the eliminations and then facing them here in game one all right so dookie how will the team adjust this afternoon after falling to ateneo twice in the elimination round um we had time to address in our mistakes like we have to um think faster during the games and then um finals so is the team more pumped now coming into this finals especially since defending champions of course because we need to defend the crown and then we are more determined seven she sail [Applause] and now starting for the reigning and defending champions tell us the ladies spikers number 13 azuki oven sanya fair look gold order now well i've heard from ronnie malapas this is the dream finals and no surprises for both coaches they've got their strongest lineup to kick things off in game number one coach ronnie offense for ateneo defense for lasalle that will be the premium today let's remember game number one last year ateneo was the number one seed 12 and two win loss record lasalle number two seats 11 and three win loss record but lasalle winning game number one of the finals that's correct it took uh three matches last year for uh the title to be settled and eventually lasalle was able to beat ateneo in three games in group two winning their ninth ground in team history ateneo stated two has tasted two titles since entering the uap in 1978 season 74. finals but the last five years or the last six years has been a special moment and of course ninth grade finals appearances quick point for parole she puts away the over receive and going back to your point coach ronnie for ateneo nine final four appearances since the final four era in season 56 but for lasalle 18 final fours since 1993 and nine championships all in all in 23 seasons and if you're thinking no that's nine championships for lasalle seven for fbu five for usd and only two foreign [Applause] in terms of coaches in terms of knowledge in terms of teaching the game and future bundy has been able to develop himself into a difference maker for the mayor in the last few years and for more about ateneo we can go [Music] now the fans and our viewers are no stranger to these three words but today they will be more than just the battle crime of the athenaeum lady eagles but they're minded as well coming into today's game throughout the whole season the girls played happy happy because they played for each other and love of the sport eric and coach ronnie that one week break was very much needed by the lady eagles because they needed time to heal physically this afternoon back to you gentlemen all right thank you according to uh the players they really even for lasalle that the asean and the labor day weekend coaching was a big ripley for them because they allow them to heal injuries minor injuries and respiratory practice even for the coaches and for time to prepare and that's why we expect a lot of fireworks during this first game given that uh [Music] both offenses moving extremely well they're all fluid the fans are loving it the 3-2 lead by the lsu all the three points of lasalle have come from madrid right now she has outscored the entire team good entire start for de la salle looking to hold on looking to fight back looking to take the lead away and that is a plea the ultra fun serve playing in her final season obviously she wants to go out with a bang let's go to veya escudero american coach ronnie finding themselves in a very familiar setup the latest fighters are entering their ninth finals appearance with a different kind of attitude and a whole lot of motivation now as these girls go head-to-head against the ladies fighters mentioned to show their full potential as a team but more importantly to play for each other we don't argue tron this afternoon it's not just a normal game for the lady spikers because it is also the countless the last few games of the team captain kim fajardo here in the uap and speaking of him she expressed that she is only focusing on keeping her feet strong mentally and giving proper direction on the court so this afternoon we can expect the lady spikers to play with all hearts and dedicate the set in the last few games of the team captain herself campbell more on the lady spikers later on back to you all right thank you uh in the beginning actually i think she was saying that she she wanted to come back she wasn't sure of coming back for their fifth and final season but she came back for the players and now the players the other players are returning the favor and trying to make sure that they she finishes they finish on top but a bunch of errors here also helped by gopiko and her serve and her excellent looking to be more stable with the reception being the best receiving team has catalantina and veda and has fortified the front line here for oh what a tremendous defensive stand at the net but finally d on her third attempt punches through de leon and filipinos blocking nazar's leading scorer former mvp in high school last year's finals mvp 30 points in two matches versus ateneo hitting scorer for lasalle this year against lasalle rather 15 points a game service long for last year's best blocker and going to that to those stats from last season coach roddy it would be difficult for lasalle being despite being the number two season for them to lose last year against ateneo having the finest mvp having the best setter having the best blocker best bigger best receiver i mean they had it all even though they were number two seats but they again they overturned it to the finals and won the championship it was a different lineup remember for lasagna last year they had nickel yes they had sydney [Music] [Applause] [Applause] for the lady eagles here's d attacking valentino picking it up she seems fully recovered from that rightly injury that forced her out for two games the tail end of the elimination takes us to our first technical timeout leading by two h6 versus lasalle set number one former lady spiker chakrus enjoying the action and obviously cheering for their respective teams unfortunately you mentioned the different look of lasalle coming into this finals without their key players also for antonio without valdez and they are obviously trying to prove that there is life there is feature there is success without elisa valdez for uh for athene was fully transitioned quickly after eliza has left the nest there's a mcree's instant uh figuring in the finals of the collegiate conference of the v league last year they come back [Music] deficit we're tied at eight good set number one we talked about the fact that players coaches at ample time to prepare them for both teams executing so well against each other the third is wide second one for lasagna in the first set earlier it was uh and now it's indeed with another service error remember we mentioned earlier the top of the coverage 67 errors combined in the first two matches versus ateneo and that cost them dearly versus the blue eagles [Applause] fajardo good saga with diving sliding scrapping for every dig and then able to put away still made an attempt to bring it back in that's how tenacious this little girl is but what an ace there for morado giving ateneo their biggest lead once again infoheart morado not only are the top two setters in the last three years but they are also the highest scoring setters and the best serving setters here in the competition aloha 34 accidental 35 sikkim you correct coach ronnie displays that magnificent bld the ultra fun serve yet again biggest lead of latinea right now points prompting coach jesus to call a timeout [Applause] take a look at the form and now the ball travels across the net just making it difficult as well and identifying a probable weak link it's a receiving lasalle right now with three service aces that's all with one lasalle [Applause] [Applause] yes [Applause] scored five points versus the first round hitting did not play in the second round match-up versus lasalle we just saw noel early [Applause] [Applause] luna played well in the finals of season 78 had some critical points in that win by lasalle one of the biggest names for lasalle [Applause] also a multiple champion for the dallas lady archers if you think about it through 29 straight finals exit season 70 season 7 since they started going to the finals unbelievable 16-13 that's a three-point lead for the lady eagles over the lady spiker set number one there's a showtime spice on your screen of course right of course uh vice versa that went to fdu always with effie was competing in final four last season of course he was always there speaking of mpu women's division 29 championship right the if you're talking about last nine years i was actually last 23 years nothing but aside nine straight finals out of 23 years lucky break here no coverage of the deflection by ateneo but instead that ball decides to drop out luna scoring against a double block first point off the bench and coach ramirez saying he wants this more for the girls as they try to prove that they can also move on without nada without pika without sit that that they can win for themselves and that's why what motivates him to get these girls to the top that is always top of mind for coaches everything they do for the school and the players of course as major baron commits another service error that will be the fifth fourth or fifth service ever for lasalle in this match so far what an angle for d as she starts to warm up but you've got to commend the serving coach ronnie and these two two a days to practice seems to be paying off with these spectacular serves unfortunately just too good on the attack that is the first line of offense something that you were in control of [Applause] down to one big fight back for lasalle always quiet extremely efficient [Music] soft spoken type but knows how to win [Applause] at the start of the set let's see if the lady eagles can take advantage what a play they drew up for the same decision no touch whatsoever as it is another free point for attorney and that attack but she failed to connect [Applause] another strong attack as d after she seemed to have gotten her groove coach ronnie a couple of errors for her and now it's back up with her biggest lead of four time out here by dlsu a [Music] foreign [Applause] and [Applause] find themselves sitting beside each other uh chang fires it in it's picked up and she has the third time she scores this is now the biggest lead of the lady he goes at five to the delight of the ateneo bands biggest lead five points c 500 best player of the game so far and anytime you give up so many three-point sail attack errors and service errors [Applause] you've got to admire the athleticism of joanna again no knee problem whatsoever attacking jumping back up keep these scoring against a single block of paragraph but the damage has been done that's right looking to fight back later in the first set good misdirection by kim jong kindly needs to find more points for de la salle she is the top attacker for the sun all year long what sir but what a great save by giselle tan okay picks it up [Applause] university checks in [Applause] 23 points for the dallas algorithms also seeing action in the field oil that's right from that mistake uh a loss that's why you played the pre-season to fine-tune your uh entire package still keeping the lsu within striking distance set number one wants to talk things over as you take a look at that last point by the lady spikers [Music] my [Applause] one of their strengths today within three and this combo of coach ramil jesus conspiring to not only shin the deficit and slaps into a series of attack hammers right now right now i see i still see people just walking into their seats here after spending so much time in the queue outside of the iraneta policy hail end of set number one 23-20 biggest lead of ateneo was six lasal led by just a single point early in the first set another long rally in the making dan sets it up the former setter now turned libero [Applause] [Music] gatorade spike of the game from joanna maraguino redeeming herself after a couple of errors and nathaniel needed that and that last attack point coming from one of the best quarters in this year's competition is pushing antonio to a four set point advantage versus [Applause] and it will require a perfect three rallies for lasalle in their bid to lengthen this first set well this is the closest the lady spikers have been in a while three points but again like what you mentioned ateneo shows the point away from closing out [Music] and that hurt them allowing ateneo to control the tempo be more confident on their attacks and carve out a 25-21 win in set number one versus the lsu set number one of game number one in the books ateneo winning 25-21 versus the lsu let's take a look at the numbers and break it down the early lead versus ateneo but early service errors and inability to be precise whether attack attacks or spikes did them in 11 of ateneo's 25 points coming from lasalle's unforced [Music] [Music] all throughout the course of the year blocking and receiving for culture [Applause] but still no effect goes running it didn't spark the offense it didn't change the tempo and again the 11 errors hurt them obviously as you see another b elite the ultra panzer and this is what we want to point out the serving about the nailing set number one continues on how solid it's been and you know such such a benefit for them on offense as they you know kick off a game every time you have the first line of attack working for you chances are it puts pressure on the defense right away but remember lassals major strength on defense is their receivings right number one they have don mcconaughey they have desolation [Applause] they sprayed their service and they gave up a lot of points service errors as well [Applause] unable to get it through there's goes long as we check it with the east inside that they are one but each of them are different parts represent different parts and they must all be the best of their abilities so that they can win snapping this is all about being in sync with each other and having open communication on the court more about the lady eagles later gentlemen back to you all right thank you denise you've got to command the way she's been distributing the ball and uh using all of her many offensive players there's a a checkpoint fight he didn't want but because seems like there was step number two that's a good break for the lsl and now they tie this match at uh two points a piece here in the second set [Applause] not allowing themselves to be in a deep hole early going into this game one i think coach revealed this knows for the fact that ateneo is the best serving team i believe has at least 29 more aces or 19 more aces after the two rounds scoring there it hasn't shown yet that improvement that all that practice in the reception and let's see the adjustments after losing set number one of the lsu as we go to bay leading up to the finals the lady spikers did not waste any time and focus on reviewing old games and kept their attention solely on their movements which they say may help them as they enter game won this afternoon now tintin's unmentioned that she and the girls are using their back to zero mindset because like she said it's anybody's ball game this afternoon now given that this is the sixth finals match in the blue and green the defending champions are more determined and eager to go home with good news but they are reminded that this goal will not come easy and in order for that to happen the girls must learn to keep the camp of their game consistent and show a smart and fierce theme part of our ateneo last year looking to help out ateneo regained the crown from lasalle rare service error for ateneo who's been on point the service area the entire first set [Applause] way that was going through believe it or not that is the first offensive block for lasalle in this match they have none in the first set of gonzaga team fajardo had about 29 [Music] versus the eagles game number
