[Music] as one pretty car [Music] hi I'm Dennis gage welcome to my classic car well this week we're in Logan Utah for the Cache Valley cruisin this shows has been going on for 30-some odd years here in the northeastern corner Utah nice cars great folks and a killer setting what more could you ask for let's get around and check it out this is an interesting piece here John how you doing man great nice to see you Dennis great to be here man Cache Valley cruisin I've known about this show for a long time and I always had kind of a family conflict on fourth-class tree this year and I finally got out here this is such a killer show it's amazing we love the show and the show has been going on for like 30 plus 30 33 years this year the venue is so nice here in the fairgrounds and Logan itself is a beautiful town nice town you do a lot of things so there was we got in yesterday and you had the poker run up to Bear Lake they're like oh man a great place wooly super great I've never been there we get up there buddies hanging out and there's a you know the dinner going on so nobody comes back down here then you got two days of show the big day is of course Saturday and then you do this parade there's a cruise or what else occurs they block off from Center Street the 1400 North they don't have to be licensed they've just blocked everything off and they cruise up and down for about two hours well this is also I think this is a show that people have on their calendar and they just come back year after year after year they do well it's it's great I say there are some fantastic cars here let's look at a few before it gets any hotter okay that sounds great [Music] dr. surreal showstopper 59 the soda adventurer right adventurer correct I always had trouble saying that exit this was dishonest top of the line the very top in the car was over five thousand dollars back config really I mean I was more than a caddy probably but certainly up there and you've had this like for a long long time I have I've had it at least 30 35 years well it probably didn't look like this its whole life you have to do a complete rest on clay resto on it man there's so much chrome on this economy the size of that bumper I'm assuming you're trying for bumpers on the car you know the top bottom top bottom if not the most chromed up car ever built it's very close darn close to you look at the interior Allah chrome trim everywhere but man that side trim the anodized gold yeah which you know it's just all perfect cuz that stuff is so easy to dent and so far as you get back out I meticulously found places around the country that do very quality work so you took all that off and it's bail been straightening everything man and this original color combo um yes I mean it's interior though this thing not only is there chrome everywhere there's chrome in the upholstery if it is all this metallic thread in the seats which are gorgeous but back carpet it's like a starry night it is at night when you turn the dome lights on it all lights up just pops up and it's uh you know the the dual swivel to do a power swivel power swivel to I didn't know they were power oh the swivel part isn't power but it's a six I see okay push button transit charter flight from TorqueFlite three-speed automatic it has the mera Matic it also has a headlight dimmer on top of the dash it's got the remote power mirror it's got the search tuned radio with the button on the floor to change it well this is about as load as it as it could be it is it is it's stunning and what if you had this in 59 you were something and the gold hubcaps - I mean that's is that a custom touch well that's the stock adventure hahaha 59 DeSoto's the domes were shaved off how long is this thing it's got to be 19 feet long it's a bush 120 yeah geez what hauls this down the road Wow uh so is that like a 4:13 it's a 383 a dual quad so 83 yes still call it 383 stock on the adventure was this the first year 483 yes yeah man so with the dual quad and everything this really gets down the road really goes as fast as you dare drive do you still have bias ply tires have you gotten the bias ply looking radials no it's by SPO man you are a brave man well a 59 DeSoto adventurer done just about as pretty as I've ever seen thanks for bringing it out [Music] well Mike this probably crazy little car I've ever seen certainly the only one of them I've ever seen this is a 61 Mazda our 360 right yes which is a one owner car been in your family its entire life right my grandfather bought it new when he was stationed in Japan he was a f100 pilot uh-huh he said this was his way of relaxing after was a lot slower than f100 yeah they'd only been making passenger cars for about six months when he went there so it's like the first Mazda this is Mazdas first passenger Wow and they never imported this right no they started importing in 1970 he told me that there was kind of a language barrier I wasn't sure what he was getting but it was about three months later they invited him to the factory to pick up his car Wow and they rode the train up to the factory in Hiroshima they put him up in a hotel had a big like banquet type dinner Wow they rolled out the red carpet and the next day they revealed it at the factory for him was it all he hoped it would be yes oh really ask me is this the original color original color they called it opal green I love the interior too I mean it's it's cozy it's got a back seat but not much of one for sure and that's your gauge cluster that that's that's it just the speedometer doesn't have a fuel gauge it has just a reserved lever yeah just like on a motorcycle and the Mitsubishi radio was that so it had all Mitsubishi electron okay so this is the Mazda sign but it comes out oh that's cool transistor radio I said seven transistors oh did that but is so dreamy ounces oh man open it up I got to see this power plant what are we looking at it's a v-twin 360 CCS yeah four-stroke produces 16 horsepower 16 foot-pounds of torque 16 foot-pounds of torque 16 it's independent rear suspension has two half shafts on you joints that go into the rear wheels it's been in the family the whole time I'm sure your grandpa is really proud of the fact that you've you know brought it back so beautifully yes that's an original license plate too right it is that's what he had in Japan for the air force base Wow Mike this is just incredible this is 1961 Mazda our 360 the first passenger car that Mazda built right yes good call on your Grandpa's part thanks for taking such great care of and bringing it out Mike well Craig this is one unique vehicle definitely stands out in the crowd this is a combination of two vehicles right that's right it was a 52 cab and then a 50 suburban well you know it's interesting because I mean it's you she's I mean it's a wild ride but this is you mean that's pretty 52 I look at it and go that's a 52 Chevy it's a 52 Chevy so it wasn't like molested and chopping or anything right we didn't chop it no we built the panel's to clean him up a little bit the bumper we built the ride board uh-huh well this was originally a split windshield it had it had a post down the center uh-huh we took the post out and and had the windshield it's it's glass but spirit curved glad mmmm blast to fit to fit that the interior so clean and so simple well that's what I wanted I don't want too much bling I want it to be classy so we picked the two colors to accent the inside a little bit that's all tooled leather that on the door panel and back here that's all hand tooled leather and that's the head of my lab Wow and then gauges or gauges or Dakota nice really custom bought for this car the bed which looks like maple its wormy maple yeah we had to build all this cuz that that was that panel truck would cut the panel all back here was trimmed fenders are the same that came with the suburban Wow then we extended the inside so like put wider tires on and this she opens this way and then this opens like this uh-huh oh yeah we actually built a channel all the way around the inside yeah for that wood to go go in so gene so the wood is literally inlaid so Art Morrison chassis fabulous metalwork is this incredible wood bed I'm sure the engine is just a spectacular let's go see what you got up there oh boy of course this hood hoods all made one piece so all this all this stuff was handmade the firewall smooth all is handmade the radiator is down underneath here we're finished magnificently love the valve covers what's the supercharger the supercharger is a Magnuson what's it I mean you carved in a spot for the belt back there yeah that's really what we hand-built that hole firewall hmm notice there's no wires I can see your transmission is white I mean it like you say I mean she's as nice underneath the Schism this is nice underneath it is on top boy I mean all around this is a stellar piece of work well thank you so it's a 52 pickup 50 suburban kindig touch kindig touch thank in digs idea and he built it beautiful well Todd this is one of these cars that I went I have no idea what this is so I had to come find out this is I mean it's a KITT car right yes it's called a sterling a sterling yes I think they were big back in the 70s yeah it was kind of a luck body style before its time yeah yeah and then they disappeared you know you couldn't get anything for him and he happened to find this one in Chicago and pastor unassembled and be sitting out there on the symbol that assembled yeah holy cow and the kit was really just the body just the body just the panels yeah really weird headlights what kind of headlights you got in there they're actually off a snowmobile okay it's a little bit of mix and match here oh yeah yeah you just kind of make them up as you go make them obviously like a jazz musician right yeah it's actually got really cool lines that I can't really compare it to anything I'm not sure what it looks like it looks like a Transformers what it look like I had a kid call it a transformer yes oh yeah well then I'm not too far off how do you get into it the whole roof raises up oh yeah so so you can only do that from the driver's side with that key yeah when you got the kit did it come with the - - yeah have the dash panels and was that the standard - for this there are several different styles that they made for them did it come with seats or do this or seater like dune buggy glass shells that have been upholstered and she's like sitting on a V Double Dragon bug chassis well that's you know back in the 70s every Saturday there's a Jesus followed the Bradley GT of course in the laser x19 and but I've never seen the Sterling it's just a while saying most of those were then powered by a v-dub engine back here is that what you still have no where you go this has got a v6 Ford 2.8 man that's packed in there - yeah little tight you're made it up to the Volkswagen transmission I mean yes oh man how about the back me where the taillights wrong taillights are out of a triumph tr3 I saw you you know backing into here you even your backup lights work cuz usually on these really lot of things that don't work oh yeah but this pretty much everything works yeah you know it doesn't have a whole lot but what's there's worse it is the doggonedest thing I've ever seen man it's a sterling built on a v-dub with a Ford v6 rear engine and you did it 1987 all right John Alisa sorry pretty crazy car man yeah pretty good yeah yeah yeah thank you so Dell this is just a small sampling of the gazillion hot rods you've built over the years right true and you obviously you build some pretty crazy stuff yeah this baby is a twin-engine sporting what 215 Buicks right yes they came in this special does you expecially special Skylark that's not just for show that's the real deal a that's the real deal the real deal they fire up they run they drive it pretty well daily in the summertime this yeah you are definitely my hero so that's pretty insane and have you coupled them together with two sprockets and a double roller chain this is a amazingness I mean quite a showpiece you've done you know I mean you're painting everything's beautiful on it but this baby over here sporting a dodge badge up front yes that's a 26th dodge radiator shell the little bird on top is probably something from Western Auto in the 51 of them or JC Whitney I'm fancy eight we have a finish and you got the friction shocks up there too King shocks and what's the frame the frame is twenty six Essex oh really yeah Wow the back here is pretty crazy too and I was looking at that wow you know boat tail and everything and then I got looking at it it looked like a truck you got it it's a truck 47 international I'm looking at even the steering wheel and that looks familiar too that looks like a Vega or something you got a Vega it is abaga so you just have a lot of parts in many many parts and you just you just wondered what to do with them see build things I figure this way I can't sell the parts for the foot but wheels under I make and sell suddenly they go they roll they can roll out the doubt the driveway what's the engine I mean it's a nice a hopped-up engine 32 Ford model B the carburetor is three Stromberg a lot of the big boys tell me you can't run three on a four but you have proved them wrong I done that degrees oh yeah you can't oh yeah yeah okay so how many cars you think you've built over your turn fifty or sixty and you're pretty much a solo act right solo act the MIS number in 1957 first year out of high school really cut mom off making mint food here in this valley got it in a big Hager and ground it off but you've done all these cars there at in essence single-handedly mmm-hmm your we will tell you're an amazing guy and you've pretty much proven you can do anything you put your mind to true yep you just keep at it right keep at it yeah keep at it you're my hero I appreciate that it's nice to meet you my pleasure great work man thank you so much keep yeah oh man the cash valley cruising is such a great show this is one I'm coming back to Logan Utah check it out
