[Music] what is this this is the real deal that's pretty crazy [Music] I am Dennis gage and welcome to my classic car well this week we're in Newport News for the Virginia Fall Classic beautiful autumn day gorgeous Park full of about five hundred some-odd cars I'm gonna enjoy this let's check a few mouse [Music] nice - yeah [Music] triumph [Music] hell how you doing man doing fine how are you sir you look like you look like the Great Pumpkin yeahbsolutely well how appropriate though because this is the Virginia Fall Classic yes sir let's hear old love it what a cool show absolutely and what a nice time to do a show like this in Ottoman in what a beautiful part of the country what Newport News Park yes sir largest city on park in the United States trees everywhere a car under every tree yeah yeah I'll say so so how many cars you expected today about six hundred which is I mean that's a big show that is right that would be a record you know is this a mostly a local region will show or where do people come from pretty much but we've got over ten states represented here we've got Wisconsin New Jersey Pennsylvania no stopping us here in Wisconsin Wow great turnout and you've been doing it for how long eleven years though oh and you guys what you have some charitable organizations yes sir we bring it together the Virginia Peninsula Car Club council puts this event on and all the proceeds go to Children's Hospital of the Kings daughters that's wonderful in the first ten years we raised over $330,000 one of the great things about the car hobby ineptly such a giving a bunch of people and stuff yeah like you know you've got a lot going on here and there's just some really interesting covers here is what do you say we get around check a few miles great so I'm good to me [Music] while paint job it's like marbles well Bernier I go to a lot of car shows you see a lot of Cobras you do but I saw this one and I knew immediately this is the real deal you see a lot of Cobra replicas but this is this is not only a real Cobra this is a really early Cobra very early what year it's actually scored in Milton October 62 it had to be one of the very first the first seven cars including Carol's car that so claims Rahl built the same shop at the same time and actually Carroll actually worked on this part no kidding this very car what number is it Oh 303 which it means the fourth car built it's an AC Cobra real AC Cobra truly is you can tell the nose is a little bit longer I mean when I saw it I just I knew it was the real thing and I I don't think I've ever seen one this early it's got the AC knockoff sinners yes oh so original not being an early one it's gonna probably have the AC pedals too right it does lo and behold it does other Stewart mourners up what is the gauging in them they are Stewart one are they don't yeah so you got to mean you're monitoring everything there and it's cozy isn't it the original seats the person that had that before me redid the C's we did not redo the seat and again you can tell this is not a fiberglass replica and the little you know delicate bumper so being this early this would have actually had the 260 in it correct not even a - 18 before - 89 yes this car was built before the 289 was available let's go look at that two things go let's do it this is the real deal simple looks primitive doesn't it completely open transverse leaf spring the early ones were it's like a step back in time but you did like oh well you know it's 50 years old you know she fits nice does and solid lifters solid lift what kind of horsepower 260 260 260 260 260 holy writing oh gosh it's enough power from this car oh gosh it's plenty of power for this car this is just spectacular and it you know again even replica course almost my lung but you just don't see the real ones and this is stopped me in my tracks I was like oh my god well Bernie so this is a 62 63 it's built in 6 October 62 is title time degree 63 AC Cobra actually a seat Australasia code true real deal real do you made my day thank you very much been a pleasure [Music] well Scott there's a there's a lot of customs at the show today's really heavy customs show but this has got to be one of the wildest ones the story that I have is the car was built in the mid to early 60s by customizer out in California dick Dean's so this is a dick dean car well I'm still trying to research we believe this is a dentist it's believed that that it is a true car so it's it's a 57 old it's a 57 nose mobile four-door station wagon originally really well you know what it looks like now is it kind of looks like an old version of the Cameo yeah you know I mean that's kind of it looks like a real trick pickup but this is a wagon yeah and they just kind of hack that off and maybe it's a clean cut yeah this would be the window line okay right here yet right cross here and then the back glasses did you see is move forward then this panel was made right and that's tied into the floor pan now back here so this is the station wagon yeah this is this is door tailgate on and original hinges and everything Rijal hinges and all that is correct now how about the jail lights now all the chrome was removed and then the taillight for French Tim and then this is the original rear bumper for it what's the bed this is Brazilian teak it sculpted Brazilian teak I love the interior too because other than the seats you didn't change the 57 holes - digit not much at all there's just a few little buttons on there that are a little different we tried to keep all the original treatment still got the stock radio there and some of the this the wheels and 47 that's the original wheel yeah this this is old stock motor great the seats are out of a 65 GTO here's now you're running a you're not a period-correct engine no I'm not oh let's have a look at it a little bit engine going yeah this is a it this motor came out of my 1932 hot rod it's a stroker motor it's 383 cubic inch but you're going to change it - yeah I've got another OHS mobile motor for Tron which is I found a w-30 whoa 455 which came out of a 69 first automobile those are not easy to come by yeah I want to keep it to I'm trying to keep it GM correct well you got certainly the only old pickup here so it's a 57 old pickup made from the station wagon maybe by dick Dean we're hoping that it's true Wow let's just do the Baker truck well George I'm a studio and I've always liked studi trucks I think they're kind of happy looking but this is downright gnarly I don't think I've ever seen a four-wheel drive Studebaker I didn't know they did him Studebaker built the truck and sent it to nap Co which was a conversion company and then once it was done it was sent to the dealership oh so you still bought it from the studio looking like this you didn't have to buy the truck send it out have it converted it was converted came to the dealership and that's how you got it correct Wow I mean it gives it a pretty aggressive look actually you know again these are these are kind of the rounded you know they're happy but this thing this thing looks serious how about the color was this a stew decolor this is a Studebaker Collard and they were never chromed up front right this was they were always painted no everything was painted the chrome on the hood is was an accessory for the Studebaker trucks which I which we added so you could get that and this is the luxurious interior yes a little more luxurious than original man if did not a lot going on there is there he didn't originally have the carpet out did they no sorry originally the rubber floor mat but as of right now there's nobody that reproduces and I cannot find an original well you know these things we know there's a lot of metal in these fenders I mean you could you could work on these several times and not go through all yes sir and is that it that's got to be a new tailgate um yes our new tailgate up had a lot of new parts in the 70s one of them being the tailgate I love the stance of it man it's sitting up there so still has the original Studebaker engine yes sir 250 2:59 just look at that baby firm on melon hood - so that is the 259 studi with the truck climate Iser fresh air yes sir your heat and defrost single barrel two barrel it's a two barrel and that's the let's sear or the oil filter out there optional oil filter - partial flow as opposed to a full flow so she I mean these were really tough engines yes sir it just runs like a champ my manager keep oil and water in it it does well it will do whatever you want it to do right so I mean studi guys sort of stick together you got you have a bunch of truck buddies yes sir I'm on the internet weed there's the Studebaker truck farmers there's a small group of us that up started back 20 30 years ago truck farmers yes sir truck five Studebaker trucker well this is great it's a 58 Studebaker trans star with an Africa 4x4 conversion yes sir yahooza thanks man thank you great truck [Music] Rob this is a funky little car I don't even know what it is what is this thing 1960 German Ford Taunus 17m deluxe taunus tau and us Hannes Thomas it's a German for it I'd know they meet him uh yeah they've been making him actually Ford built a plant there in the early 30s really in Cologne yes it is really a funky design I mean these are they turn signals or running light those are parking lights turn signals are below one of the things that I noticed when we were looking at this was that it's almost a 56 55 56 Merc side trim you know with that slash and everything yep and then interior is really nice I mean I can't believe it came that way in 60 almost really the front seats are all right in console or not a part of the original car but the rest of it everything in the dash is it's a cool speedometer actually it's you know I like the the grid behind it I mean would the seats come out of 69 Cortina so it was in English for so you keep us in the crest and everything is that the the symbol for the a sitar yes the whole window design is just one on them it's good they at least push out curved glass here and even the taillights are funky you know if you kind of blur your vision just right it almost you got a little bit of nomad action going here I had it mistaken for a gnome yeah it's like a shrunken all night cuz you got you know the fin here it's kind of a 57 Nomad act on there so what powered this originally originally was a one point seven liter four-cylinder you probably don't have that anymore no longer now let's go look and see what you got oh yeah that's no 1.7 I sort of added four litres to it so what is it it's a 300 horsepower Chevy 350 really yes that's a that's a well that's a tight fit but your helmet your exhaust manifold that's homemade I could not find a manifold anywhere that would allow me to run the engine in steer so I had to make my you know and those are two important things that go together so you basically made that manifold then you take it out to the three the inner fenders and then take it down the body oh man that's a nice it's pretty low - yeah um my buddy who was helping me put it together kept trying to talk me into putting a blower on it but I figured 300 horsepower probably enough goodness under probably just get this around fine this thing is wild it's at honest a Ford Taunus German Ford correct 1960 yep it's crazy thanks for bringing this baby out thank you it's so funky [Music] man Paul that's a beautiful car thank you 56 merc custom I think I've seen this before your wasa George Hiwassee Joe Ross oh yeah you know it kind of grabs your attention I don't know what it is it might be this green and orange paint job what is that collar how's a fellow sunset orange pearl and that pearl makes it Orange change older almost green I mean there's a lot of color in that color the whole front ends Ben I mean the bumper is gone and it's opened up where right right we tube the front end now these had these had this eyebrow to begin with but it looks like it's come out it was coated out about three three additional inches I love the louver hood everybody I know this got louvers knows how many louvers they have how many have all right nine honey nice oh you know - oh yeah now is that it is that an expensive proposition well back in the day used to be around 450 Luva and I heard now it's up to about 950 holy mackerel just - just just - punching holes wow I had no idea man I mean you've done a lot of work certainly shaving the handles and everything but you let the stock trim and I love the interior man you did this up serious it took him a month to hang the headline in it the headliner is in 78 78 pieces in the headliner holy cow is it innocent is it leather micro leather and suede oh wow that's pretty much the 56 Merck estimate clustered right action it right only thing we changed was a stern column and put the console in it what's the kalamata monic olive that's nice was that pinstriping there all the orange most of that was there I've had it redone once an old man and back here these are Packard - I could tell white classic I mean that's a classic looking really pretty smoothed out back in - bumpers gone bumpers shaved everything shaved off so originally this would have had a 368 or 312 312 we talk great oil look you probably won't have the three totally let's go look at oh yeah man you've you've done some work under here - there's a pretty fancy pinstripe in there you know it's not just these thin lines you got some I mean there's some austrie under that loud detail me and so what's the engine 305 Chevrolet a thrill flash every in an armored our 400 transmission and louvered valve covers livid valve colors does this baby get a lot of attention yeah yeah close enough Paul man I'm glad you brought this baby out 56 Merc I love it nice custom thank you you bet oh man what a show and what a time of year to be in Newport News Virginia Fall Classic Newport News Virginia check it out
