Turning the Chateau's 19th Century Stove into a 21st Century Kitchen Worktop! 👩‍🍳

it's 5:00 in the morning and we are already up we have to go to the airport super early there is a lovely reason because we're seeing our guests this evening and having dinner with them I just wish the flight had been a little bit later today we're really there now I spent the entire time on Phillip's lap having my hair striped so as far as I'm concerned this has been the best possible start to a day here we are France here we come this is going to be your shortest ever trip to London I Was Here For What 16 hours to see you I would do anything nice try but actually I'm quite excited about so earlier at the airport because it gives me a chance to read the one I got for you amazing book you it's quite funny the minute Philip saw that he was like that's very that's very interesting okay maybe I can reach you in the car when we're driving home on the other side I might have finished it darling lovely weather we're having oh I think it's going to be I don't think it is I think it's going to be just as miserable oh oh I may have spoken too soon there are definitely patches of sunlight down there I did speak too soon the closer we get to L the more beautifully sunny it's looking it's good to be back actually windy chilly but sunny and the reason we got up so early this morning is because we're having dinner with our guests this evening Philip what happened well I I went to collect veterin and I also bought a lot of design books uh quite a few how much for all of these books these are amazing I think I paid about €200 for the books which is a lot of money but I think four of these books would have been worth oh my good there's one about ven American fol painters of three centuries my father would have loved that one so for example this one I'm very curious about private invitation that one we have a beautiful one but I thought then we can put them in the guest rooms as well there we go Venice oh my goodness I thought you'd like that one whoever these belonged to had exactly the same taste I knew you'd got books I didn't realize there were so many there's a rick Stein here as well Rick Stein's front oh I look at that in the car as well I've only we had a li we to put these in darling I know Shadow Cuisine o put that on the way home as well I think we've got plenty for look at yeah philli didn't just get the books though did you no and you filmed a little bit I filmed a little bit why I filmed where I got at you might wonder why I've come to this shut well recently they sold everything inside the shut and I bought some of the porcelain for our guest in us I think I might show the little baby in the back of the car you must be so happy fell I am so I've always wondered the one with the birds on top I know that's a terine from one of the dinner services that we use with the guests it's called the Rothchild bird service by herend and philli has had his eye on getting one of these Terin for as long as I can remember pretty much and this is it at that wonderful sale he managed to get this I can't wait to see it properly when we get back to laand we flew to to airport because it's a much earlier flight but that means we have a 2 and 1/ half hour drive ahead of us and that doesn't seem much of a problem now with all of this I thought that one was going to be your favorite oh yes [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] I am so excited yeah yeah hello hey and hi Molly how are you excellent oh my God this is looking amazing it's looking absolutely amazing cool like it's always been part of it oh my God it's amazing yeah oh gosh with all the steel as well I know like it's always been there I just wanted it to sort of look a little bit more look at that it's a nice height I can see my cousin like perfectly flush oh my goodness yeah it's very very cool the first thing I'm doing on getting home after celebrating the arrival of the work surface is running over to the Chapel to see how everything's going the ceiling looks great from here but let's go up and see how it looks up there I am astonished it almost looks new and yet it still retains a slight mtled finish that gives it depth and interest I was struck by how much cleaner it looked and I couldn't put my finger on it and I realized that all of the walls on the far side have been mled I don't know what that product is there's some sort of white wash over the original paint now whether that gets removed and it's some way of cleaning it or whether that's a base coat for the color that they think most matches the original color I don't know but now I can't wait to ask them and this wall is being completely finished ready for painting because there was nothing original left on this wall this one had to be started from scratch but you can already see how much lighter the Chapel's going to be with the new base color on the walls almost all of the vaults are completely finished and painted the stars are gleaming and the sections where the stars had been lost are waiting to receive their new stars and pretty spectacularly the rose window has been completely painted in this lovely Stony buff color and then the blue gray just inside the rims of each of the windows they did say to me that they might mle this a bit more to make it look less new from the ground but I'm not sure it needs it if you look they've actually done it fairly patchy on purpose but it's true that when you step back it looks pretty flat which they were worried about I'm not convinced that's going to matter from the ground though we'll make the decision from down there and pretty much the only vaults I can see that haven't been finished yet are this black one coming along down here and the red and green ones next to it all of the others seem to be completed and they're breathtaking in their detail complexity vibrancy I'm absolutely astonished by the work they've done there's a few parts of the vaulting to finish just at the base of that Vault the exterior of this window hasn't been done yet I think there's just a little bit left that they'll be copying around there and so looking at this this is St aloicious you can see the Stark difference between the surround of this window and the detail surround of the others for example this is the Archangel Gabriel you can see just how magnificent all of the patterning is around the stained glass and actually even on the mid level of the chapel they've started whitewashing all of the walls in this way I'm super curious about it and I can't wait to ask them what the reasoning behind it is and how it's going to help with the rest of ation here you can see what the walls did look like last time I stepped into the chapel and on this section of wall in front of me you've got a little bit of both some areas with that white patching on and others that have been left untouched curiouser and curiouser going to head back in now see how everyone is and then start getting ready for the guest dinner tonight how is it going in here yeah I'm ready a beautiful colored green soup a wild garlic spinach and peas and then we're having beautiful um L it smells so so good just now does look wonderful she's now resting see you're on bread Duty mhm M oh I will just test a pretzel just a check it's just a check yeah quality control coming up I like the round ones it's quite a fight isn't it who likes the sticks and who likes round ones luckily I like these and Philip likes the stick so we're a match made in heaven is is that the only way you know that yeah that's how I know we're right for each other I came upstairs to choose what to wear tonight when Phillip said actually Vivian has just given you a dress look at this apparently this is one of Vivian's dresses and she thought that it would suit me she was clearing out her closet so I'm going to try it on I think I'm going to wear it tonight I've come to LA brante with Vivian because it's on the way to the airport actually and you live in the area so I know meeting up we had to have a shopping date but you're already holding stuff how does that work well I brought gifts so this one is from M I don't know if she's going to like it or not but I mean oh I love the embroidery I know and it's got flowers and everything so I've got a I've got a car full of stuff to go to OS but there were a couple of things that were really special that I wanted to give away this one to Marie if she likes it and your hanger little heart little heart here on your hanger oh yes of course well everything is sh love this is for Stephanie this is one of my favorite dresses that sadly I can no longer fit into but this is called The Roxy Music dress I feel like there's a story behind that there is um because Roxy Music is my favorite band and the second time I met Brian Ferry I was wearing this dress and um I just can't give it to Emos and if Stephanie likes it I feel like I should sprinkle some Roxy Music Magic on her that's so kind of you thank you so much isn't it amazing it looks really nice on you and is just making me warm even it's getting quite chilly now we're starting the evening with a light very springy soup so it's wild garlic pea and spinach soup with a bit pistachio creem fresh and herbo get your appetite I love Wild Garlic too I when I saw it I was like I'm taking unfortunately not from the garden but the herbs are from the garden thank you thank you it was delicious starter so you've got a delicious lamb roast shoulder and there is pnip puree from the garden with parsnip crisps you're going to be happy with the parip yes pass I said PL all the pass I see why you did this table tonight that's the Terin that he just picked up I didn't realize you Pi them there thank you very much I'll stop looking at ter at last we have a dessert and it's a strawberry vanilla panacotta with post rub up from the garden first of the Season wow and the post liquid that I use to post a rubub is then turned into a little puree so you have that as a little sidekick and strawberries and strawberry flowers from the garden okay it's so beautiful thank you so much thank you and the L was amazing was very how did the evening go it went really well and oh my God the worktop is like unbelievably really my back is not killing me and I have so much fun I loved it I was just here in the moment I love it so much I really like this is yes thank you Maria for asking for this for 2 years so that I can now use it poor Maria must be sitting in South Korea going this is so and we did a cracking job I mean wow now we just have to do the fun job of decorating the top piece here feel some more copper thingies I've got some nice drle oil like I like here that's okay then you can sit there can't it yes and I with the books here just collection so I thought we could find some nice books we could put here you got so many new cookery books because today Philip bought literally four cases of books oh uh from an auction and the books were amazing and one whole case is cookery books he said they were ancient those with no photos in them no there's photos no there's one about shatow cooking from all the different shat L of photos he said ancient it's from 1992 I'm going to have a word with him about what he means by ancient2 is a bit ancient we had color photos in 1992 Mar well you know big strange anyway I absolutely love love this good and I absolutely love the meal it was delicious thank you we have had the loveliest evening and we've just had tea and coffee in the winter Salon it's a beautiful night actually surprisingly warm I'm amazed cuz it's supposed to be really cold this week but it's pretty idilic with the fountain in the background and now I am off to sleep very very well and I'll see you all Ed [Music]
