hey everyone welcome to beautiful new orleans louisiana my name is jeff and i work here at tulane university and today we're going to show you how you can spend one day traveling to our incredible city and visiting our campus we're going to give you all the best tips for where to go what to see and most importantly what you're going to eat while you're here in town let's go check it out here's your first stop new orleans airport welcome if you are flying to visit us this is the place you will land the great thing about this airport is that it's brand new it literally just opened and it is absolutely a beautiful place to spend your first couple minutes when you land here in new orleans so we are at the new orleans airport i've just met up with aaron so if you were visiting new orleans where would you recommend i go i mean any favorite neighborhoods any favorite restaurants that you would recommend to get a local scene but still really fun for a first time visitor oh yes well my favorite neighborhood in new orleans is mid city so i recommend going to parkway and getting a po boy or just taking a walk along the bayou it's just a beautiful part of the city to see it's almost like you're a communication all right so we're leaving the airport the easiest way to get from the airport to uptown is by hopping in an uber or a lyft it's only about 20 minutes so it's a pretty quick ride make sure when you're in your uber ask some questions you get some great intel from our drivers here in town where would you recommend people go like where should they spend their time if they've never been here before i like the world war ii museum i love that place i love that i love it so much there's so many things to do the aquarium the uh the zoo my kids love those things i love it [Music] so we are on st charles avenue in the heart of the garden district i'm standing right out in front of the pontchartrain hotel there are hundreds of great hotels in new orleans the benefits you get of staying in the guard district is you're about halfway in between our campus and downtown new orleans so you can check out both by the way if you head to our website you can notice a lot of our hotels offer some really incredible discounts if you mention tulane when you book it i think it's the best place to stay here because of not only the history of the hotel and the character of the hotel and the position so close to chilean campus you really get to local experience and that is what someone coming to today would want we're about to go up and check out the hot tin i would arguably say one of the best views of the city of new orleans mom dad guardian once the campus tour is over you want to come up for a cocktail at the end of the day this could be your spot so when i was a high school student visiting new orleans for the first time i didn't realize actually how big the city was and how big of a skyline we have all right so we just left the poncho train now let's head on the streetcar check out tulane's campus now you can download the go mobile app to get your streetcar ticket it requires exact change dollar 25 so the streetcar app is the best way to book your ticket and find out exactly when that streetcar is coming [Music] all right so you just got off the street car so one of my favorite tips to give is make sure you stay on the streetcar line till the stop after our campus it's the tulane and st charles avenue stop that'll ensure you get a really great first glorious view of tulane and our sign and gibson hall which you can see if you stay on for that additional stop once you hop off you're going to come right on our campus tour we offer tours almost every single day of the week multiple times a day and you can sign up for them online all right y'all so we're just walking through campus now by the way if you're checking out this video and you're not actually visiting new orleans don't sweat it we've got all kinds of great virtual events that you can do including a full virtual campus tour so if you can't make it here don't worry we got you covered all right so one of the great things about our campus is that there's actually only two streets that run through campus so the great thing is it's super walkable this is one of our main streets that went through campus this is called farrett street it's an awesome place to check out if you want to grab some lunch after your campus tour is over if you just head down straight that way you're going to see some awesome restaurants so a great place to kind of get some affordable lunch after you're finished with your campus tour so we've made some really great improvements to our physical campus over the last 15 years or so and i think honestly my favorite one is that the road that i'm on right now mcallister used to be a literal road so all kinds of busy traffic heading through campus and about 10 years ago we turned it into a pedestrian walkway so you're going to see all kinds of people walking and biking through campus it just has a really nice relaxed vibe in the middle of our campus and it truly is like the central artery of our two lane campus all right so when your tour is over you're going to land right here in pocket park it's one of my favorite parts of our entire campus no matter what campus you visit find a spot when the tour is over to just watch the world go by watch students interact with each other watch professors walk through campus i think right here in pocket park is the perfect place to just let it all sink in after your tour is wrapped up all right y'all so i really hope you enjoyed your time on campus your next stop is not very far away because you are heading right across the street to our beautiful front yard and that is audubon park ottawa park is incredible beautiful live oak trees all over the place awesome place also to kind of just put your phone in your pocket and just kind of observe and watch new orleans in its daily life we just ran into sam sam what year are you i'm a freshman and how do you like it so far i love it so much okay and as a freshman tell me about where we are right now and why it's a great resource for our students so this is audubon park it's a great resource to let out any stress you go for a walk go for a run just take a break from doing your work and hang out with your friends or go alone listen to music and just enjoy the time here in the sun with all the people and the families and students i love it here [Music] my biggest tip for you after your tour is over after you've checked out audubon park head here to magazine street i'm standing at the very base of magazine street right now it's about eight miles long some of the best restaurants in the city can be found here one of my personal favorites is lily's which we're gonna go check out today for lunch lily's is also great because it's one of our many minority-owned restaurants here in new orleans we are a very very diverse city with incredible food from all around the world and i will challenge you to make sure you visit some of our black-owned and minority-owned businesses and restaurants here in new orleans we are small vietnamese family restaurant my husband is a chef in the kitchen runs with me my mom my brother my sister-in-law and a few good employees in the back and they are like our family we've been here for nine years well the food was incredible thank you so much goodbye from lilly's cafe thank you one of the best things about magazine street is it is legitimately probably one of the best shopping streets anywhere in america particularly because a lot of the shops you're going to find here in magazine street are totally locally owned one of my personal favorites is dirty coast it is an awesome t-shirt store there's two locations on magazine street it's where i got this awesome t-shirt that i'm sporting right now let's check it out if you were visiting new orleans for the first time is it worth it to come check out magazine tree absolutely i take the magazine street bus every day and i get to see all of the amazing boutiques all the cafes the restaurants very new orleans so definitely check out magazine street especially dirty coast lgd that's me all right so we checked out tulane's campus we saw everything we needed to see uptown now it is time to head downtown to the heart of new orleans right now we are in the french quarter so yes the french quarter is touristy but you have got to make sure you put this on your visit list right now we are in the heart of jackson square that st louis cathedral right behind me all kinds of great stuff to check out let's go find out what this place is all about you know the most important thing about coming to new orleans particularly for the first time is that you are invited to become a new orleanian immediately so we want you to experience not only the great french quarter and the beauty and the history that's behind this area of the city uh but to get out into the neighborhoods there's so much here to do and see and it all comes alive you can't beat it now right across the way there's a place called cafe du monde where you get the best coffee and donuts we like to call them beignets [Music] so delicious so here we are on bourbon street you got it you got to see it you know you got to come to bourbon street and say you saw it just remember everyone you see behind me is a tourist so yes you should come check out bourbon street but don't spend a lot of time here you're not going to find any of our students here so say you saw it and then maybe find somewhere else hang out like royal street let's go check that out so we survived to bourbon street and we've actually just walked one block over to my personal favorite street in the french quarter and that is royal street i personally love it because it has great shopping so all kinds of great antique stores art galleries etc and you can always find live music here [Music] is wow that was a busy day and you've got one more task on your new orleans to do list and that is to find an incredible spot to have dinner so you can stay here in the french quarter there are amazing restaurants all throughout the french quarter one of my personal favorites is brennan's right behind me right now but i also encourage you to check out all the other neighborhoods that new orleans got to offer for dinner like the warehouse district or the bywater or the marigny there are so many places you can go for dinner in this town and trust me you cannot go wrong [Music] what a day we just had y'all so whether you've watched this video just to kind of virtually visit new orleans for a little bit or if you're planning a trip in real life sometime soon we hope you've enjoyed this checking out all the things that new orleans has to offer we've seen tulane's campus we've checked out magazine street and we've ended here in the heart of new orleans french quarter with that i say thank you for checking out this video hope to see new orleans sometime soon see you later [Music] you
