There are a lot of things I want to say.
First is, There are legitimate reasons to step carefully when dressing ourselves with the clothing, arts, artifacts, or ideas of other cultures. But please, letβs banish the idea that appropriating elements from one anotherβs cultures is in itself problematic. It is only problematic when the intentions are derogatory, stereotypical, and oppressive.
HOWEVER, I agree that what the TMAP staff and treasure did was inappropriate and insensitive. Therefore, we should hold them accountable to their actions and it is right to demand apology especially for those who were offended.
For people who wish to be educated:
CA is inevitable. In the this time of globalization, where cultures meet and potentially mix. Often times, people donβt even know that they are appropriating certain cultures. For example are bohemian clothing trend. People often wear clothes with tribal patterns or feathers but those are a type of CA if worn without paying homage to the culture it originated. Another example is wearing rosary as an accessory. Sacred objects shouldnβt be used for aesthetics (just like what Jihoon wore). Many of us are guilty of CA, we just arenβt aware or educated enough.
In conclusion, we should not stop educating people. Many people would use CA as an excuse to hate people but that should not be the goal. Our goal is to let them know what they did and reflect on them.
Lastly, we all make mistakes, some are worse than the other. However, instead of being tolerant or cancelling, we should aim for to change them than condemn. Hate the sin not the sinner, as they say.
With this, I hope those people offended will get the apology that they deserve and I really hope that this wonβt be the reason for them to unstan Treasure.
Good that the fandom is not excusing Treasure for this. I think fans were jarred with the image they have always associated Treasure to with this.The members should definitely take this chance to check themselves and be more aware of issues besides themselves. Not that I'm demanding them to be 'woke' and unerring, but educating themselves, developing awareness and empathy would make them better people and hopefully would reflect in their art as well.

It's not my place to invalidate other people's feeling. Treasure and YG will just have to take a consequence of their own actions. Just hope they can learn something from it and bounce back.

The last part was not it. Who thought it was a good idea to dress up as other cultures as a punishment? YG really needs to step it up. If they want to promote Treasure internationally, they have to be culturally sensitive.
The fact that they deleted the scene definitely shows that their watching what weβre saying, which makes it all the more disappointing because we had other incidents like this (the current one being the most severe) and YG staff just ignored in hopes that it will go away. Their basically doing the same thing by deleting the scenes and not issuing an apology.
Itβs just so frustrating that they want to promote Treasure to a global audience & the boys dreams are to go on a βworldβ tour but they canβt simply respect other cultures. They need a international pr person ASAP, and the boys need to be educated itβs tiring.
