Travel Storage Organization Tips (Between Trips)

hey there today i am sharing tips on how to organize your travel gear in between trips we only pack in carry-on suitcases so this is how i store my carry-on bag essentials in the past the only way i have organized my travel accessories is in my carry-on suitcase in my house and now because my one other tub that i would store my extra essentials for flying in has fallen on my foot in the floor of my closet and because you my youtube audience has asked for this organization video i have finally found additional ways to organize my travel gear in between flights the easiest number one step in organizing your travel gear in between trips is to use plastic bins or you can use baskets or you can use those amazon boxes or you can use a box from costco it's a different shape and that's the kind of a box i'll tell you about in this video as well my name is laurie welcome to my channel i'm a pilot wife here in houston and i share tips to help you travel the globe without a worry in the world tips so do not miss those in the comments section you can buy all the storage bins for organization that you need but my tips are going to help you organize your gear inside those storage bins that leads you to step number two and that is to pull out all of your travel gear and put it in one place so that you can see what you have and what you do not need i put everything on my office floor carpet and then i moved on to step number three and that is i divided my travel gear into international flight essentials as well as domestic travel gear i only use that foot swing on long flights usually international flights my adapter converter also goes with that my rfid bags my passport booklet is what i would have in that section first but i'm also thinking about pulling my passport booklet out and keeping it in my carry-on suitcase because i have my vaccination card in there one travel tip is to use your passport as your id for domestic travel it's bigger than a driver's license and therefore you're less likely to lose it then i have to store my travel cubes for packing those can be packed inside of each other notice the gray ones now those travel cubes are for checked luggage so they're a little bit deeper a little bit larger circumference wise circumference perimeter i do prefer the compression packing cubes now i have used the regular ones but one of them broke so i just tossed them i do have a video that i'll put in the icards for you about comparing compression cubes and different packing ways or methods in between trips i store my packing cubes inside that carry-on suitcase and then i have two bulky items that we took to hawaii my travel speaker which is great for sitting on the patio of your condo and then also my fan in case you were going to hawaii that's something to not forget to pack because a lot of the places are not air conditioned and i have a video of what else not to forget that i'll put in the cards above for you the next step is organizing all of my little accessories that i must have for travel i see shoe bags slippers that i use in a hotel room a random cheap sole and i have a great travel hack for that i'll put a travel hack video a couple of them in the description box below for you the shower cap for packing shoes those are things that i do use but not on every flight but since they fit flat inside my carry-on suitcase and there is room i can pack those in there as well they're not going to normally go on top of my packing cubes because after a trip i just throw my packing cubes back in my carry-on suitcase on top of those other essentials i wanted to come in here real quick because i thought of a better way to store my international travel gear you saw that i put it in my carry-on suitcase which i travel with every trip since i only travel internationally every few years i'm going to take out those things that i packed in my carry-on suitcase i only have a few items that are essential to international travel so those will be easy to store in a plastic gallon bag so my travel tip is that it does not have to be neat in between trips but having a bin that you're going to store your things in and then knowing what things go inside those bins will help and another viewer said that they leave a little label like a sticker a peel off and on sticker you can also use blue tape of writing what is in that bin or that cardboard box before you go buy plastic bins take it from me and measure the depth that your shelf is so that that plastic bin will fit and not hang over the edge of the shelf too much that it does fall on your foot and do not lose the lid like i did because if you have a dog or a cat like we do that sheds more than a golden retriever you will need and want that lid because the cat's going to want to sleep on top of all those comfy cozy accessories now i get to make really cute fun meaningful pouches like my beach survival kit that comes in a pack of four i'm thinking about giving these to my girlfriends on my 50th birthday party uh girls weekend trip in a couple of weeks some of the pouches do fit inside of the other pouches and that's the first step that you would take to organizing your pouches i also have some pouches that are bigger and that i did not return to amazon in time so i have not donated them or gotten rid of them yet but while i'm looking at all of these extra travel accessories i'm mentally making note of what trip would i use that in am i going to need that much space in a pouch since these pouches are long they are going to go in my long plastic tub that i have in my closet my most used pouches and makeup brush organizers those are all gonna go under my sink in my bathroom in a costco box because it's oddly shaped it fits in under my cabinets which perfect snow have redone but i can have easy access to those pouches and they're not taking a lot of extra space up in my bathroom you could pack them all in a gallon bag before you buy storage organizers for your travel gear i suggest that you just use a gallon bag and see if it works see if you never go to that bag then it doesn't need to be under your bathroom sink it needs to be hidden in a closet somewhere or you can store that travel gear under your bed in between flights this last year i started using these three mesh pouches they nestled inside each other for storage but they also stand up on their own and i love that function i also keep like an old liquids bag with liquids that i don't really travel with a lot but i might for a quick road trip and then i have extra little pouches with my travel toothbrush like the little hand soap papers my shampoo bar disposable razors which are allowed in your carry-on bags here a couple of dollar bills for the luggage guy who gets my luggage out of the van going to a hotel these are all old pouches i don't know where my mother-in-law got them for me a travel tip for those large pouches is to nestle your makeup organizer pouches down in there but my normal pouch that i usually use would go in that large pouch but the travel tip for traveling with a large pouch for makeup for example it's too large to squish and smush in your carry-on suitcase so my suggestion is to divide those makeup essentials or your skin care or toiletry kit into small pouches like this because those are the ones that can fit when you hardly have any space left and you've got empty pockets of little space that you can smoosh the little pouch into if necessary another travel tip for a large pouch is to pack your electronic cords in there i use this organizer for my technology cords that i travel with but you can use a gallon baggie my husband uses a big pouch that's sturdy to protect all of the chargers that he flies with as a pilot another way to organize your cords is to use one of those long skinny packing cubes they are not compression amazon sells them in a set of four i have packed underwear and socks in there before you can mold the shape of that cube to where you need to pack it inside your backpack for example the top is all mesh so you can see the cords that are in there so you know not to crush them or put them under something heavy you can also pack your bathing suit and your cover up in a skinny cube like that for when you get to the resort again and your room's not ready quite yet the next step is to keep your in-flight essentials stored inside your backpack or your tote bags in between flights one example is my extra mask i have the gray color because it blends with most of my travel outfits i have my phone prop that packs flat inside my backpack my little valet tray that i store on my bedside table for my hearing aids my rings any kind of charger that i might have and they also store my cord organizer in my backpack in between trips the most disorganized part of my travel gear is the extra accessories that are essential to travel sometimes so that's where i pack my extra long wallet that i don't use anymore it's rfid my little coin pouch i need to store this with my international travel gear but because it's so small i know that extra little pouch is going to be here some of the pouches i stand up and then i lay flat all of the other things like a collapsible cup my little bra extra card holder for traveling in a pickpocketing area anyway so i packed that just smush them in there but do not forget the lid i would venture to say if i went through that disorganized bin that is now organized i could probably get rid of every one of those items so you go through your things while they're laid out on the floor or as you're storing those items in your plastic bins and treat them like clothes if you have not used them in two years or let's say you only travel once a year if you haven't used them in four years donate them to someone who can use them i keep all of my liquid containers packed in this bag or my other old liquids bag and that way i know they're easily accessible and those stay under my airplane my bathroom sink one travel question i get asked a lot is if you are allowed more than one liquids bag in your carry-on suitcases
