is this the coolest ac ever well i don't know many window units that let you do this so in this video i'm going to give you my thoughts on this medea u-shaped air conditioner and i'm going to show you how to install it and we're going to do it right now [Music] so here is an 8 000 btu air conditioner from medea and it has a u-shaped design i had never heard of that i never knew what it was until this company medea reached out to me and asked if i wanted to partner up for a video and i saw the design and if you look here basically the window closes and separates basically all of the noisy part of the air conditioner relax code i know it's hot and has this on the inside and to top it off you can actually open your window if you wanted to with this installed so when i saw that design i said yep i want to make a video and that's what we're doing right now so this one does up to 350 square feet which is probably a little overkill for my room but that's great because like this week there's a heat wave today it was 100 degrees and you know this should cool the room down really quick a couple features right off the bat that are that are nice like i said the ultra quiet operation you can open and close your window whenever you want it has smart control which you can operate this with your voice it also has a remote which is nice sitting on the couch you want to turn it on you can do that you can do it from your phone inverter technology which makes it 35 more energy efficient like it says here 39 a year operating cost and that is based on eight hours a day for about three months so that's pretty awesome that is pretty inexpensive to me i know when i blast my acs in the summer my my bill skyrockets so hopefully that will help with that now this is the window that i'm going to be installing this in and the size that the window needs to be is between 22 and 36 inches and it looks like mine is like 32 and a half inches so i'm right where i need to be and then the height has to be a minimum height of 13.75 inches obviously i have enough room in fact that's 22 inches so if your window doesn't open past 13.75 then this probably will not work for you this will work for single hung and double hung windows and they actually provide some mechanisms to lock the window in place if you choose to use them all right let's open this up and we have some stuff we have all the paperwork here's the main mounting bracket that's going to hold the ac we're going to have some other pieces now don't get intimidated by the amount of mounting hardware this is going to be easy i promise there's a lot of steps but they're very easy i'm going to make it super simple for you then we have some foam blocks to help block off the airflow when after we install it some screws more bracketry bolts so you only need one of those bags this one is extra which is nice to have extra pins and screws you'll see where those go later and we have a remote with some batteries this is one thing i love is that they supply a ton of foam pieces and strips to help block off the outside air and seal it up for you know bugs and all that kind of stuff that's really awesome that they include and of course we have the air conditioner itself and as always i do recommend two people to help you with this i'm just by myself right now so we're gonna make it work uh here are the tools that i'm gonna recommend using we got a drill with an eighth inch drill bit a phillips screwdriver this also has a flat head you might need that i'm probably going to use an impact gun a pencil tape measure a small level and i'm going to use this old kitchen knife that i like to keep in my toolbox keep it nice and sharp i'm going to use that to cut the foam pieces that should be about all the tools that you're going to need for this this is what we're going to start with this is the main support bracket and you're going to need one of these pieces and before i get too far into this um i want to show you how what its purpose is so you can understand it first basically it goes in the window like this these drop down something like that and this sits on the window and then this piece sits against the side of the house and this is what holds the air conditioner up and what would a nice hot humid day be without an afternoon thunderstorm you can see it poured just a minute ago but this is basically what happens this sits right here those legs sit down here of course you have to adjust them out like this and that supports the air conditioner but there's a couple things we need to do to this before we actually install it and a little note for those of you who have storm windows the lip for the storm window is right here so what you'll have to do is add a piece of wood onto the window sill to make that even and then you can put your bracket on you can still install the ac you just have to put that piece of wood there first we can push in this button and extend it and extend this out and get it to these holes on this side and then these brackets um the one the long one is for window openings between 26 and 36 inches and the short one is for window openings between 22 and 26 inches so i'm going to be using this one and i want to put it in the opposite end you see how this bracket is you want to put this the same way so i'll put this in here like that and then you can adjust this a little bit about there now i'm going to flip this around and i'm just going to take these pins out right here they have this little cotter pin right here put that aside both sides take those pins out those are gonna lock these brackets now over at the window i'm gonna go and measure this just like this i'm gonna find the center of this window this is just about 34 inches so half of 34 is 17 so i'm just gonna measure and mark with a pencil really light mark so i can erase it afterwards just make sure it's good on the other side that's 17. so now we know that that is the center and the distance between the center and each side is 17 inches now we can come back over to the bracket and you're gonna see this arrow right here that is the center of this bracket and we want to take that measurement of 17 inches and i'm going to hold it right here to the center and we want this bracket to go out to 17 inches so i'm going to push that button in and extend this and hook it on there that looks like just about 17 inches and then you want to do the same thing for the other side now we can open this window up and make sure these pieces are in here properly they have a little lip right here that slides in like that and then we're gonna carefully flip this so that those brackets don't fall out and install this just like this uh you can see the bracket see that arrow there it's lined up with the center and each side is nice and tight and you'll notice that my window has a lip here and this will work for windows that don't have a lip this bracket will just have to be screwed in down through here and on each side but this is how it's going to work for mine good so far koda now if you were gonna put this on a window that didn't have this lip you can use these foam pieces on the bottom of this bracket so they peel off like this and they stick so stick those right to the bottom of the bracket where it's going to sit so this is where i'm going to use my eighth inch drill bit to pre-drill this hole right here and i'm going to use these half inch screws that they provide and if you were attaching this flat here you would want to use the one inch screws going down here and the half inch screws going this way but my window has the lip so i'm just going to attach the half inch right here do the same on the other side all right now i'm outside in the rain excuse the noise from the traffic i'm going to take my handy level and put it right here and you'll notice that these feet are touching the siding if you have maybe a rock face or something this might be a little tricky you might have to adjust these uneven but the thing that you want is for this level to show that the bracket is either level or just tilted down this way a little bit so that it can drain so i'm gonna get this to a point where it's level and then i'm gonna drop it down one and i need to line up that hole right there there okay so now when weight is put on that you can see that it's about a quarter bubble so that's perfect i might even put a piece in here a shim i don't think i have to i have this sitting on there enough i think and this will support some of the weight right here and then we're going to go ahead and put the cotter pin through here just like that and now you can see right here that these are marked with numbers might be a little hard to see uh this hole would be four see it says three that'll be four and then that's five so i'm gonna go to the other side and put that in number five line that hole up and put the pin through and install the cotter pin i'm going to open this window up and this is where i suggest you have somebody help you put this into place put that around the bracket you just want to adjust the ac in a way where it looks close to where you can bring the window up and down looks good you can see on the bottom they have like these tracks right here that are kind of cut out of the ac and they sit on the bracket so you know you're in the right place okay now this is where these brackets come in and they attach in this screw hole right here just like this and then the other part attaches to this bracket so you use half inch screws that look like this right here and then you can attach this screw to this bracket make sure that's tight do the same thing on the other side now we're going to install our foam pieces that block this off these are some brackets that flip down and the foam goes right inside here and then goes sits against this sits down here what you want to do is get a measurement between here and the inside of here and then you want to add a quarter inch to it and you can cut your foam piece you might also notice that i added some foam pieces here i actually don't think i need that but you may so just basically seal up any air gaps that you might have my measurement is seven and three eighths so i'm gonna measure seven and three eighths and then add a quarter inch seven and five eighths then i always like to have a nice sharp kitchen knife an old kitchen knife available in my toolbox and i'm going to use that to cut this foam piece now if you install this ac where you don't have that lip on the bottom of the window so the bracket goes flat to the sill you're going to want to add this piece just peel this off stick it and cut it to length now i'm going to take this foam piece that comes with it i'm gonna peel this here and i'm gonna start it like this about that far up and then wrap it like this and i'm going to use some scissors to cut it off even right there i actually had to move this foam piece to the other side it peels off pretty easy uh just make sure that this is facing in towards the house this sits in this bracket like this and then that flips down and push it into place so what you want to do is make sure that your foam piece is even with this and it goes even across here and that that foam seal is touching the back of the bracket sealing all that up nice you might have to make some custom cuts around your window depending on how it is like this one i'm gonna tuck some foam pieces behind here just to make sure that's sealed up um but that's how you do the foam pieces i'm gonna do the same thing on the other side now on the back side of the unit here there is an anti-tip bracket you want to take this screw out right here and then that bracket actually fits in the window track right here to obviously stop it from tipping anti-tip bracket cool feature i can extend this it goes over that foam piece now you can push that in there reinstall the screw do the same thing on the other side now to seal against here with your window sash if you have a sash that's flat you can use the stuff that is supplied but mine has this big lip right here that is meant to seal against the original window so down here it's not going to work you want to seal up in here so i'm actually going to run to the store and grab a nice thick piece of insulating foam with a sticky back that i can put right here and that will seal that gap right there you see that's being stopped back there because of this piece so i want to bring that out so that'll have a nice seal right there here's the foam i'm going to use this stuff expands up to an inch and then can be compressed down to like an eighth of an inch so this stuff will be perfect okay let's see nice well the last air gap that you would want to fill up is right here in between the two sashes and you can use the supplied foam and just tuck it in there like this nice and neat while you're using this thing but i'm going to leave this out because i want to show off how cool this is that you can open up your window and still have the ac in there and as a note right here is the track for the screen i actually have a full screen that i just had to take out i'll throw that up in the attic for now um but it looks like a half screen if you kept a half screen in here you could bring it down to here now we can talk about security features on the back side you can kind of see in the reflection there is a tab that comes out like that that will stop even if you didn't have this handle it would stop against the lip of the window and then same on the other side just like that and then as an extra piece of safety they give you this bracket which you can screw into the other sash or depending on how your window is set up you can set it up like this and screw in this way if you want to use that you definitely can for a little added security that way if you wanted to lock this up nice and tight and be nice and secure okay it's plugged in ready to go and you have all the functions on here uh you can control it from the remote or you can control it from the app or you can even control it from voice you can connect it to a smart device so let's see turn it on there it goes different modes cool it's obviously just air condition dry it acts as a dehumidifier fan just a regular fan different fan settings a sleep mode and that is really quiet wow that's the temperature go all the way down very cool now you have this swing and what happens when you do that is this louver goes up and down gives it kind of a more natural breeze uh so it's not just blowing right in your face okay i'm gonna put this on high yeah this is nice i'm like on the other side of the room probably about 20 feet away and i can actually feel this breeze nice and cool and of course the question is is it cool so that's showing 48 jumping up to 49. but yeah 47. so the answer is yes it is cool it's been about 10 minutes and it's already really cooling off in the living room to control the unit using voice you'll have to connect it to whatever device you have i'm not going to say her name so that all of your devices go off but you would set it up that way and to control it with the app there's a manual right here that goes through step by step gives you all the information you need you scan this qr code into your device into your phone set up your account and then it gives you all kinds of things uh all different kinds of ways to control the ac gives you obviously temperature you can change all the functions that are on the front but it also gives you data on kilowatt usage gives you these graphs lets you set up schedules very cool looks like a pretty thorough app all right so my thoughts on the medea 8000 btu smart u inverter window air conditioner that's a long name but that's not what i'm going to talk about what i'm going to talk about is if i like it or not so i've had it for about a week and what i look for in an air conditioner is if it's cold and it works this thing definitely works and it's definitely cold it cools this living room down and dining room in about 10 minutes i leave it on low and it works all throughout the night all throughout the day and in that respect it is awesome obviously the coolest thing about this is that you can open your window which is nice because if you have a really nice day you want some fresh air especially if you only have one window that is a great feature about this thing another thing that separates it from a lot of other window acs is that it is quiet all the operation is outside and before when we had our ac i would really have to crank the volume on the tv in order to hear that over the air conditioning but with this thing i don't have to do that i can leave it on low and this place is nice and cool and i can hear the tv just fine and as far as installation goes there's a couple more steps than a regular ac but it actually makes it easier if you've ever installed an ac you know what i'm talking about where you're holding this ac up and then you put it in the window and you have to hold the air conditioner and try and pull the window down at the same time without pinching your fingers and then you have those flimsy flaps on the side and you can hear just all the road noise you can hear a lot of road noise here because the road is literally like eight feet or ten feet from my window but it does cut down a ton of the noise you have these nice thick foam blocks this is way less sound than those flimsy flaps on the sides of most air conditioners another thing i love is that i can sit on my couch and call out her name which i will not say and say turn the air conditioner on it turns it on you can make temperature adjustments and all kinds of stuff with just speaking the app is really cool it has a ton of features in there and it was really easy to set up you just scan that qr code run through the instructions set up your account and you have access to all kinds of really cool features for this thing so overall i love this air conditioner and i'm recommending it to you and you guys know that i don't recommend anything that i don't think that you would benefit from so i do recommend this air conditioner i love that it cuts down the noise you can open your window which is unbelievable that's i've never seen that before with any other air conditioner um and it's quiet i can watch tv and be cool at the same time so awesome i hope you enjoyed this video and i hope it helped you out if you needed some help installing this hopefully i made it really easy for you i try to in all my videos and if you want this ac i'll leave a link in the description over to where you can buy it that is an affiliate link so i'll get a small commission which helps support this channel so i can make more videos like this speaking of more videos if you want to see those i'll leave one here or here-ish and if you haven't subscribed yet definitely consider it i really appreciate it thanks for watching and we'll see you on the next one turn air conditioner on okay
