at this point there's like 50 different styles of trap beats today i'm just going to kind of cover some keys for each of the different types and just some general things that you should know if you want to make this style of beats so let's get into it and you know if you could leave a like i'd really like that all right so first let's talk free vsts i'm gonna go over a couple because i already made a video on this where i go into a lot more detail and i show a lot more vsts first one that comes to mind though is labs by spitfire audio they've got tons of different sounds that you can use and they all sound like pretty good well not all of them but you know most of them sound pretty good especially for free next one would be vital it's like a synthesizer this one's going to be great if you actually you know take some time to learn how to create sounds on your own and for this one i don't love the standard sounds within it but i do like that you're able to you know create your own sounds and if you just learn a little bit and learn how to create a couple of different sounds you know you'll be in pretty good shape and it's free so and then the next one is ample guitar very solid if you just want to try some free stuff in general just go to plug-in boutique go to free and they have tons of different stuff you can use so you know definitely feel free to check this stuff out now some paid vsts and these are more expensive than the other ones because you know those were free so for the first affordable option we have omnisphere and i'm just kidding it's not affordable at all it's super expensive but atmosphere is great just because you're able to really make any different type of beats i would not recommend this though if you have a glow or like shitty computer because it uses a lot of cpu now another great vst that's paid and this is probably my personal favorite as i use it all the time specifically though i use my banks which we'll talk about in a second analog lab tons of different types of sounds bass keys leads pads pianos if you can swing it or start an only fans then i would definitely recommend getting the arturia collection got a lot of really great synthesizers in it i use it to create a lot of my sounds i've also got serum serum is great if you want to make like rage type b c type beats etc expand to is pretty solid you just kind of have to put a decent number of effects on it but it's great for like counter melodies and stuff like that and if we want to get super affordable gotta plug myself a little bit here any of my banks i have analog slash one shot bank so if you have analog labs you can use it within analog labs and if you don't you can just use the one shots i use them in pretty much all of my beats so if you just randomly click on any of my videos you'll see me using one of my banks arcade arcade is super dope for just adding like textures to your sounds adding like counter melodies etc and it makes it a bit easier just because you're like just adding samples on top of your beats already and if you want three free months of arcade link in the description so next let's talk bpm i really just recommend looking up the type of beat you want to make if you have a favorite song or something like that just use a website like songbpm.com you can go and type in a song and you can find the bpm for it one good chord progression if you want to make something that sounds dark is just just make any minor chord so we'll start with this right here and drop the second note down right here [Music] [Laughter] maybe bounce the middle up just add one note like that and you can just kind of build from here really simple one that you can use is let's just leave this right here drop this down five one two three four five and this is just a general trick for your chord progressions or if you don't know which chord to use next just drop it down five or move it up five and then alls we're gonna do with this is we're gonna strum this and this will be like more like a gunna kind of guitar style type of trap melody so let's pull this out like this this and this the sound is from my bank grails so very simple you got your base going now you can just add a couple more notes all these are pretty repetitive because for most trap beats you want to keep it kind of repetitive you're going to make it interesting with your drums your arrangements etc but again you know there's like 50 different styles of trap at this point so you can make it super complicated but just trying to give you guys a couple you know starting points so for this you can just do minor major chord whatever it doesn't matter you can do something like this where all these notes are lining up right here go and just have the last one change a little bit so let's do something like maybe this right here then you can go and pull these up maybe add a little melody inside here [Music] and then just you know go in and build off of this strum this a little bit right here so make it sound more realistic [Music] all right so now we're on to layering our sounds layering your sounds is a lot easier than you think and really the key for layering your sounds is you kind of just want to add what might be missing or the elements that the sound doesn't already have i just copied this over and we're going to go through my bank summer nights just so you guys can see you know what sounds good there right so let's start with this sound right here [Music] see how it sounds kind of all over the place probably not the best sound [Music] now [Music] this one layers pretty well like it's not getting in the way it's kind of adding a little something else as it's occupying different frequencies [Music] too much going on on this sound this one you can't even hear really so this probably wouldn't be a good one so what i think i'm gonna do is just layer it with a piano from grails called toronto i think this will sound good so it sounds pretty good i could add something when we got it back [Music] so this is a different beat this is actually the last tutorial i just did so if you want to learn how i made this definitely check it out but now onto your counter melodies and for your counter melodies you have a few options so one thing you can do start by adding notes that are already in the chord progression you made so let's just go ahead and do that and then over here maybe do a g and a d sharp she's there d sharp's there and that's just some notes you can start out with if you want to add a little bit of tension just add a note that's in the scale but it's not in the chord so let's just do that right here just for an example [Music] feel that now what he is do not overdo it with your counter melodies especially if you want people to actually you know rap or sing on your beats you can't do too much to the point where it takes over the beat as you know you have to think of their voice as an instrument as well and my own music and stuff like that i won't even have anything i have something more like what i'm about to show you guys other thing you do for your account of melodies which i really like is you knew this using arcade excel is great for this kind of add like little textures here and there like different sounds so this is just a vocal sound right here another thing you can do if you want to create as much space as possible if you get something like rk like this is just called expansive hits this is the bank i just found in here and just listen to this it sounds pretty tight [Music] and if you like that bass line that is the black bass from my kit blacklight my favorite bass probably ever whatever you do just don't overdo with your counter melodies all right so let's go over some effects while we're here some of my favorite effects are one reverb here i'm using valhalla vintage verb for this sound let me show you what it sounds like before and after it's just great for making things sound spacier and more like live without this piano sound the toronto sound from my bankroll also now with reverb free option that you can use is something like fruity reverb so let's throw that on here it's out then add it on turn out the wetness [Music] a little bit too much another plug-in i really like thermal thermal super fire like a creative distortion plug-in you do a lot of really cool stuff on it totally flip the sound [Music] i guess the fl equivalent of this would be like something like fruity fast distortion which has like a third of the options but if you need something free now check out fruity distortion [Music] another plug-in i really like for trap beats specifically is something like portal it's really great for like your counter melodies and like adding textures and stuff so this is just the vocal just doing something like let's just you know go through some stuff like add some texture to the sound usually i would turn it down quite a bit though another good plug-in that is free this is good for like bringing sounds out that you know maybe you want to poke through the mix a little bit more fresh air [Music] like look how much more the strings stick out if i take this away now pretty nice i'm pretty sure basically all that is is like an eq that's pulling up sounds and taking out sounds but you know it sounds pretty good now another plug-in that i really like is just rc20 it's just great at making things sound vintage i really like the vhs preset and these final ones pretty much all i used you
