hey guys today I might have a bigger smile on my face than normal because today I get to fulfill a lifelong dream and fly a 1978 Shrike commander now this airplane was made famous by my idol of all time when it comes to aviation Bob Hoover and today I get to take the controls of a Shrike commander [Music] [Music] welcome aboard everybody that smiles to us not left my face we're here in spring spring to Arkansas ASG and we're gonna be flying back to a Papa golf Delta today we're here with Adam he is the proud owner of this beautiful beast but I guess it's called miss Mia and has been so gracious to her calm pick us up and take us for a flight so today you actually have the GT here as well as the IFD Abaddonn in here so I tell you what I'm gonna go ahead and pull the heat is on here can I have at the same time you ready go all right I'm done have you there yet I don't even started come on I've done alright okay so that wasn't fair I'll tell you what I'll give you a second chance I'm gonna go ahead and put brown in standby okay you go ahead and put ground in your standby coke ready go and you're mocking like you that and I wasn't there you block my view but now is that you actually answered it manually when you look at but what's this process for you you just you know I would have to go database see what I just did right there I literally just turned this bottle knob a zip-up changing to emergency and up comes all the frequencies that's so there's brown right there it's been would you like to Tennessee you get a say for obstacles yeah this thing is I don't want to I've seen people go off through that so I'm assuming the key is then when taking off is you get yourself centered up on the center line to get where you even consider trying to take off there is no rolling start there's there's usually not once you get the hang of it it actually is in fact that it's learning how the plane performance and the worst part is when you start losing rudder Authority on landing crime and you up to transition from rudder to brakes right that's where it's Thank You bear I got a baron pilot repeat sake it sounds fancy don't take the take off sure I'd love to okay and now I'm gonna stay with I'm gonna stay with you on it just because it gets a little squirrely right at living with the F word yes whole yeah petal deal absolutely and we've got 15 degrees nose-up trim because the actual deck angle on the rudders went to the commander to have a negative duck game some Americans - always something very groovy the like take quality together you know aerobic she could come over positive academic there's so much room for active we got a chessboard right here [Music] oh my love this airplane want your food [Music] if I never eat again can I get one of these you want your food is about finding your risk actually yes I do I need to eat so so can you come into this and and modify your flight plan Oh nope if I can go flight plan and I could see it and I could check out this right but I can't I can ask questions or whatever but I can't I keep boom there you go lost difference I got I can't direct to or jaja that how many average have any jet engines the left one has about 120 and the right when I was about 500 okay that's what it was just such a good deal for trace I love the simplicity yeah I mean it really is a simple I feel like the Seneca was with the turbos was harder to fly than this oh yeah I think my parents are gonna fly that has sure flanks so crazy it's like tear tear but on each book in and they board them all in the middle yeah nothing on board but it's like you get up here and you're chill this is my happy place oh dude 6 hours and 45 minutes because of the headwinds and pulling the power back to stretch the fuel and I know she was suffering for thing but for me I wasn't my happy place I was like this is good agents just food the plane is running fantastic it's a it was kind of like this weather like today although then the headwind and I'm like man I six hours eight hours I know you know yeah short of of the fact that we couldn't run the heater because we needed to save the fuel if it was a hot day one two three four people over Little Rock out it's like mostly I've been happy I just put the JPI I'm putting in the JPI 960 so I'm gonna have the JPI display right here in the center if that's a game-changer you're gonna love that all be that that with my size dual centers to be within 1/10 accuracy right here yeah absolutely in fact when we get on the ground remind me I'll give you the contact so you can reach out these guys and see if they make one for this airplane to be within 1/10 accuracy I would love that what I love that yeah [Music] don't apply all right so let me see so it's gonna be a little touch here than probably what you're used to okay heavier young boy up going nine okay no way I feel far I think I feel on board you know that leather is very adjustable spirit so I'm gonna get chastised I'd rather look at this that my could be peace but I'm also so used to looking at his stuff that I'm used to when he left what she said and I I don't I have a thin learning by looking out I'm fairly bad about that I've been I've like I'm at first the flight instructors are gonna go stop it outside no what you do is you wear sunglasses when I'm 5.25 they can't see where your eyes are five point heavier it's okay this is where I really feel comfortable with two hands do it you go I now mean are you doing great it's just heavy it's just heavy definitely heavy it is really sensitive this young I mean it is real definitely heavy but it's sensitive you're doing a fantastic job it's like me I'm very heavy but I'm sensitive so sensitive say no fat no what'd you just say why'd you call me fat yeah it's our one three five point ninety two but now she'll smell my claw [Applause] hundred kilo Charlie fair play what do you think princess what do you mean what do I think you like it of course I like it is it a bearing killer well we'd have to like auction off the Baron to get how much money we've even put into it now I need a sponsor [Music] so welcome aboard everybody we first somewhere over the Atlantic we opened the door we got rid of you-know-who or sitting you know where and these now you know what I'm still back here oh this is my present for a split second I thought I just got myself an airplane I gave you one job take me home Beasley girl this feels so much better being on the side and I know that sounds funny I don't know if you notice this or not Adam yeah but your throttle and your prop are backwards [Laughter] what did this happen I mean you say what if you fly a baron no we're currently level nine thousand feet we are cruising at an indicated airspeed of 174 miles an hour or I'd say about a hundred fifty two knots we have a true airspeed of a hundred seventy six knots which is giving us a ground speed of 230 knots because we're taking advantage of a nice 45 not tailwind at a340 and we're currently burning about 28 and a half 29 gallons an hour and we currently have an outside air temperature of 390 although heroic to pour so what do you think should a parent pilot change your commander pilot being 239 pounds deeper commander by later it's a matter of trust in sight both of us and our experiment will stay fair pilot your line as I see will become commander pilot you'll always be si si angry boy for you people what do you guys think should I trade in the Baron for a commander there be a step up would that be a parallel boo put your thoughts in I'm going to make sure I've trimmed out right right for this yeah cuz you're imagining your hand flying yep we're trimmed out and bring the power back 18 inches and just let the nose come over cuz here's the other thing this does now right so as you descend you're now in and I don't know that the airplane yeah but I'm gonna guess we're pretty close to approach power settings yeah we are going oh gosh yeah yep okay so not only are your power set but at this point you're ready for the approach chopping your flaps your gear and you know all of the day but this is awesome that that's a how come nobody showed me that how come how come no flight instructor was ever like hey cuz the flight joke just don't know it it never taught it tonight would you put your Pat you put your power in right when we level off you mean yeah like honestly at this point I would probably visit my approach power he said I just leave in love I just leave it alone enjoyment trimming the level off from eyes approach commander 6-2 is the echo with 3000 with the Yankee and have the field site restrict to whiskey echo Pro child feminists who will turn right heading to the drill frank t20 to a scale [Music]
