[Music] it's the 21 days of the tour de france live coverage presented by rocket mortgage it's taken them eight days but they finally found the mountains of the pyrenees today is a massive day on any cyclist who dreams of victory in paris two weeks on sunday i'm phil liggett bob roll is with me as we're looking here at a breakaway of some 13 riders getting away in the first two miles of the day and in the breakaway is nielsen powerless the american from durango in there and the best place rider overall along with the inuit zacharian well this is a massive breakaway bob and they have made massive time already seven minutes 25 seconds over the rest of the field it wouldn't be surprising if a rider from this breakaway was able to win today's stage the king of the mountains is there benoit koznerfall 40 kom points up for grabs in the polka dot jersey that man in the red and white here comes an attack for the sprint looks like jerome kuzan total direct energy but be that as it may peter sagan leading the competition after he was behind sam bennett got the jersey back morkov going after him pretty hard acceleration considering the difficulties to come on today's stage phil there is a prize i think it's about 500 us dollars and jerome kuzan is taking that the frenchman mikhail morkov last year's champion of denmark goes over in second place nobody else interested at all in the sprint points because they don't feature in the competition in any way one thing morkov's doing there is getting up the road in case there's splits in the breakaway you do not want to miss this splits in the break that's for sure well there you have it there's your answer bob segan started to go and it is sam bennett never listened to a word you said who's taken the two points and no points for peter sagan almost caught us out that it looked like the sprinter from b and b brian kochard getting second position in that but yeah sam bennett gets two points closer to peter sagan just like this is as handy as that so he's 131 plays 138 of us again now so that was a good catch there for sam bennett now we're still going here it's all over i think isn't it waving goodbye to the race you cannot pedal backwards do you know i think he is yeah well i'm very surprised the cameras have caught him turning around stacking his bike the champion up italy and europe has just abandoned the tour de france i'm very surprised jerome kuzen is getting a little bit twitchy on the front here and he's looking into the face of zakadeen the best place rider in the race who is almost the outright leader on the road from alberta well that's a catapult for you well done ben okazawa he has made this competition in this first week of the tour de france his but unfortunately there's two more weeks to go in the tour de france today we go through the 900th mile of the race so far but you've got to admire this man but just one kilometer from the summit with the main field here well just about the main field because the rider in the middle number 31 roman bardet who's finished second and third in the tour de france in paris has had a fall on the way up the mountain now he's got a couple of teammates who've fallen back to help him i think we can show you here on the upper right of our picture there they are amongst a few spectators and that two of his teammates have waited for him there they've seen whatever happened now he's just in the wheels but i think he'll probably glimpse some blood on his left elbow if we see him riding away so that's quite a shock for team ag2r here because baday is hoping to be involved in the race for the the final yellow jersey in paris there he is number 31 getting himself back in nice piece of riding there brought him safely by his teammates alexis avimaros is the rider who's brought him back and there's the blood on the left elbow he looks okay but a nasty mind is just how dangerous the tour de france is literally around every corner up or downhill now this is an attack which has just happened from the front group moments ago while we were showing the roblich story there jerome cuz out breaking clear he's planning an awful long time up front over some big mountains bob but he's got ambition i'll give that to him the shadow boxing has begun even in the breakaway he has a teammate in the breakaway and guerlier so gullier now can sit on the other riders in the break give him himself a chance to rest easy and maybe go for the stage win it's a good move by jerome kuznetsov part of this outside category climb of seven miles the port of ballast you can see you get some idea of the slopes here when you look at your own cruise and you look down there's the statistics join the since sea level up to his 3032 feet or elevation rather and maximum gradient bulb 16 more or less that is going to hurt the legs a week into the tour after a long tough day nielsen palace chasing the rider up the fro up the road jerome kozan has a pretty handy lead just over a minute but nielsen palace is now trying to rectify that and he is on the attack in the breakaway great ride in by nielsen very heads up so far they've got a good temper going now but they're not making that much impression on the front group still 11 minutes and at 50 seconds nan's peters now nance peters big move here zachary trying to cover that man's peter's teammate the king of the mountain not going to be contending for the stage i don't believe today but nance peters he's got one more climb after the top of this one and a sweeping descent into the finishing town but zachary looks like he's up to the task of closing down to nance peters this breakaway is definitely going to split up if you're jonathan waters you will be hoping that nielsen palace can make the juncture well this is kuza who is up front has now been detached from the back and it looks like his day is done here now nielsen palace in the pink tagged onto that little select group of five riders here while three riders are trying to go clear and eight really is all that's left of the thirteen men that made the move nance peters oh zacharin on the right and uh just where i think it's contact trying to come up there with them but these boys are hurting everybody now slowly but surely trying to claw the way back 10 17 it could still be a winning gap for the two riders up front but this gap is going to come down quickly soon async in front of wild van art yesterday's stage winner in the sprint van art that shows you how good he is he is right there in the front looks like cepcus having a bit of a hard time well we don't want to see seb cuss falling behind but he's in his first tour de france and he's a great talent his job in this race is to keep his team leader primage in the right position he's done that because prima rockledge is still at the front of the race but for today it may be common sense for him to take it easy and save his energy it's another big day in the pyrenees tomorrow one to go for zacharin and peters well that's what that'll be the objective for peters to try and take these 20 points away from zachary and it's 15 points per second and the first eight riders over the top of what is the major climb of today on this all category climb is covering eight riders so peters if he gets the 20 he's done his job as a teammate of the race leader in the king of the mountains and that's benoit konafar and konafar will still lead in that competition with one more climb to come today that's an incredible situation for a rider really isn't a great mountain climber back there peter's still hanging on in there the orderly crowd with their masks on now the organization have stopped he's over the top he's got the 20 points zachary not worried he'll take 15. more interested in what comes at the finish today after the climb of the caldepera sword his comes in neilson done the ride of his life here he's got back to this group and he's going to go over the top of the mountain high amongst the men and he does descend extremely well there's the summit just a grit of the teeth nielsen and then you're on the way down it's a long long descent this they can catch those two front rudders bob there's the clock bottom screen they've got to make up the best part of 40 seconds oh that's really hurt neilson palace but he's hanging on to sauron craig anderson [Music] nielsen palace one of the best descenders in this group here we come this is the yellow jersey group adam yates is coming up to the top of the port of ballet still in that leader's yellow jersey if the race were to end now primos roglidge and a reducing number of teammates at the front is destroying this pace this race simply by the pace this is a gita and he's just hung on to get over the top the champion of colombia now he's got time to zip up that jersey and stand ready for the plunge to the valley below don't want to start climbing again you most certainly do not do not want to take your eyes off the ball on this descent a very dangerous descent and the consequences of getting any corner wrong would be absolutely devastating oh i i can feel the pain of this back from here bob this is awful for tebow and i think you know and the news will tell us tomorrow no doubt he must have heard this back in that crash on stage one when he crashed at three kilometers from the finish and hurt his right shoulder as well now we can't see that ala philippe looks there 41 in the middle of these three he made a move they've reacted to him now he's gonna have to wait and see if he can try another move they were paying attention that time also in trouble is igita in the yellow jersey just vanishing from the screen and emanuel bookman in trouble i tell you what bob alaphilippe has not just popped he's blown he's gone right out the back here he is on his own job done out hoping to maybe reignite the motor but that didn't work he's blown the motor up and he's getting dropped and this is now of adam yates being joined by primos roglic the moment that adam yates got to be in trouble here comes nairo quintana in red and black coming across to the pogacha and primos row glitch nine miles to go and this is the next pinch point on the stage today roglic has answered it he's across with the gacha bookman this is the hot favorite aboard emmanuel buchmann has gone they've cracked him and it's all because of the attack here by bogaccia let's see if again bernal can close down that gap he was gapped there by primos roglic and today pogaccha and zillner zacharian for the stage win still hasn't been able to close down his disadvantage to the lone leader nance peters another attack here by teddy pogacci he caused the problem first time he's going again here four kilometers out from the top of the climb and just another five miles after that during the finish and tom de moulan here as now it looks as though he's done a big turn to try and keep his leader in the fray which he's done he's dragging his heels a little bit now there's no respite pogacchia being chased by richard carapaz the teammate of egan bernal from ineos tom dom trying to close back that gap adam yates is caught back up and let's see if teddy will gotcha trying to recoup some of his losses from yesterday it's been very aggressive so far nance peter's starting to get a bit of an advantage over his lone chaser illner zachary and he's got all the momentum and definitely the support of the crowd and it looks like the russian rider is now cracked he tried to reach him uh but he didn't allow for the enthusiasm of the french public to pull their man up to the summit of the paris sword so zakarine is falling back he might well get picked up by the chasers wow now it's like we're just coming into the top of the moon here now as we climb over at the top at 5150 feet now we've plunged it down onto a plateau and we raced to the finishing line just six miles distance and the yellow jersey has cracked again so near the summit he's going to have to take a lot of risk on the way down he can't afford to lose three seconds on that group in front if he does he loses yellow pagacha up the road gilmartin chasing nairo quintana on his his wheel and roe glitch lopez is there and rigo bear to iran also there and atomy is just a little bit behind should be able to catch on before the top or certainly on the descent he's joined by enrique moss the movie star gc rider roman barde riding well he's just a little bit further up the road in the blue jersey with the brown shorts nairo quintana on the attack adam yates has closed his disadvantage down roglich going with nairo quintana this is a dangerous move guillaume martin and miguel angelopez trying to get back on terms rigoberry to iran in the pink jersey with the yellow helmet he wants to catch these riders before the descent starts and not have a big disadvantage to the finish line this is a massive move quintana wants help here on the attack and he's getting it but he didn't have to accelerate himself quintana refining himself here this year riding for a french team uh which is unusual for the colombian but the french say he's really settled him well nance peters in his first tour de france of a team ag2r they don't win many of the big races up goes the zip he'll see the finish round that corner he is going to get an incredible round of applause and cheers as he comes up to the line let the crowd now bring him home as they bang on the doors let it go he says come on everyone cheer for me a win finance peter's a win for the team in solitary splendor and an unbelievable ride to do that in the race lead for 88 miles now i haven't seen the orange jersey exactly so are these guys raising the second place but they most certainly yes they must be veronica the second yeah carlos verona tom screens now this will be a huge tom squeens we know thomas from the tour of california on a number of occasions where he's won stages particularly at the segway in california now let's see can he produce a spin he's a good sprinter and he's opened it up here the champion of latvia chased by carlos verona but i think tom's screens may well have the kick that matches this is a huge result for squeegee as well verona takes third zachary distance on the descent had a tough time on both last two descents and he'll come across in fourth place nielsen palace going wide on the bottom corner of the previous descent was able to catch the pursuers but then got dropped on the last climb i would imagine we'll see him coming in before the peloton however so another good day out for nielsen palace in the pink jersey of ef maybe a bit of a disappointing day for zach green when he had a very good chance to win the stage today well i bet when he started the stage he didn't realize he would be in the hunt to win it but he put himself into that position in that big group of 13 and he had to give it his best shot but he's the man who has won it and nan's peters and i've never commentated on him before has delivered for a french team and here is the new big man as far as i'm concerned in the tour de france nielsen peters he's come over the line i don't think i've missed anybody hey palace yes sorry thank you in fifth place bob today yeah that is another big day in the mountains for him well he's getting time back he lost yesterday and the hats off to him for that because he said at the start this morning yes i made a mistake yes it all went wrong for me yes i had a mechanical and yes i lost time but today is another day take your hat off to him this is a tremendous fight not sure exactly the time gap it's about seven minutes from the race finisher that's already come across so we'll see what the time gap is between pogacha and adam yates roman bardet on the attack and he's very close to the lead of adam yates and adam yates now is chasing roman varde barde just 13 seconds behind and putting some serious pressure on the other gc contenders this is a good ride by roman bardet he might have just gotten word his teammate won the stage and is inspired on this last little climb on the race course well this is another good move here adam yates has got to go after him he's got to go have to chip away at the seconds that split him so yates has gone to the front to try and catch him he's just going to close down the situation a little bit here for bart this is the face of pogacchia the youngster here youngest man to podium in a grand tour last year in the welter espana he finished third just over 20 years of age hit the line just trying to look for the clock there the moment couldn't find it here comes bardet a little bit of daylight dale martinez he needs nine seconds bob no he needs 13 phils gil martin needs nine bardet needs 13. that's the damage from his crash he seems to recover from that rather nicely i've got i've got i've got bardet of 13 you're absolutely right bob i told you you should be a good mathematician 13 seconds is the gap but yates is behind yates is still there he's not got 13 seconds here but he's lost a little bit of ground let's first of all have a look at the stage result here those that have finished by the way norms peters er he takes the ride today just over four hours tom squeenge coming in in second place for trek carlos veron at third zacharian slipped in the end to fourth look at the time gaps but none of these affect the race lead and that absolutely brilliant performance again by nielsen powell's there he's home in fifth place other riders from the original breakaway of the thirteen eight survived to reach the finishing line ahead then teddy pogbacher came in and claimed back some of the time he lost yesterday with his mechanical and the crosswind race that they had now the next thing is going to be rather interesting how it stands tonight going into another day in the pyrenees tomorrow yates maintained his three second victory over roglic nine seconds over guillermo tan no change there but in the frame now amanus finished second and third in the tour de france in the past roman body is up to fourth at 11 seconds last year's winner in the tour de france aegon bernal is down 13 seconds off the face along with nairo quintana this is a tremendously close race after eight days of racing seconds only covering the top nine positions podja car who was up to third two days ago descended has come back up now into the top ten what an incredible bike race we have seen and so nan's peters is the winner for france but it's the british rider adam yates who remains in the leaders yellow jersey for the fourth day [Music] you
