TotK is messing with the Timeline (SPOILERS)

universe [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] Beginnings the Kingdom's first skin and queen were involved in the imprisoned in war the imprisoning war that led to the Syrian of demon king Ganondorf for tens of thousands of years she would not break from a sealed until the end of the era of the wild during the events of Tears of a kingdom this kind of breaks the timeline as is often the case with news other titles there's been some debate among the fandom and a lot of recent converts to the side of a fandom that refutes the official timeline Ganondorf has been sealed away during the entirety of the Kingdom's history but he appears during the era of a hero of time and the era of Twilight and the era of a great sea albeit as a different Incarnation a third Incarnation also appears in four Swords plus but this shouldn't be possible the events of Ocarina of Time the Wind Waker Twilight Princess and four Swords Plus have been said to take place somewhere between the founding of Hyrule Kingdom and the era of a wild while Demon King Ganondorf is still sealed away is it even possible for two incarnations of Ganondorf to exist at the same time did Rory will know about any of this the imprisoning war this event was featured in tears of a kingdom but the name originated in the backstory for Triforce of the Gods and evaporated on during Ocarina of Time although the latter was later retcon to be covering events prior to being prison in war in any case we have been presented with this war three times and with details of each instance never really line up it is entirely possible that there have been multiple Wars as sheriff's name but I think this and other events and tears of a kingdom point to a much more significant factor that we haven't really considered yet this is the officials out of timeline the Canon timeline given to us by Nintendo themselves but why does Nintendo whenever at all possible seem to still readily contradict their own timeline Nintendo made the timeline but they didn't make it for themselves they made it for us recall the time before the release of Hyrule Historia when no official timeline existed and the fandom brimmed with theories of one connected continuity speculation of Nintendo's secret documents which all pointed to her grand master plan surely if we knew what Nintendo knew this would all make sense Nintendo released the official timeline because the fans baked and asked for it and they gave in to our whims it was made to produce a fans but recently it's become increasing the nuclear that Nintendo doesn't care to use it there seems to be two primary camps when it comes to a fandom's take on the timeline on the one hand you have a timeline deniers there is no timeline every game is self-contained and it's futile to try to fit them all together because they were never meant to fit in the first place on the other hand you have those who try to fit the pieces of pirates history together into one shared continuity Zelda is historically a franchise of games focused on puzzle solving though it seems only fitting that the door would be a puzzle of its own the most common take I've seen around a fandom recently is that breath of the wild and tears of a kingdom take place in their own new continuity apart from the games that came before some of them Skyward Sword into his continuity as well but I think the answer lies somewhere in the middle some titles are clearly meant to coexist While others are disconnected from one another we can't group every game together but we can group most of them with at least one other as a result we end up with a few groups of of games all connected with one another but disconnected from the other groups so let's start from the beginning iron fantasy was the first title released the adventure of think it's sequel Triforce of a Gods was meant as its prequel although in later years the time between tripods of the Gods and Hyrule fantasy would be expanded upon with additional titles dreaming island is confirmed to involve the same bank as Triforce of gods and the same goes for the oracle's duology whose linked ending dates into German Island Ocarina of Time was originally intended as a prequel to Triforce of a Gods involving the events of the imprisoning war of the previous title but as I said before Finns didn't quite dine up and still be imprisoned in war which shifted on the timeline happening after the events of Ocarina of Time during the downfall timeline I won't say anything about that Abomination by Shifting the imprisoning word to happen outside of Ocarina of Time the connection between Ocarina of Time and try foreign has been broken Majora's Mask is a sequel to Ocarina of Time involving the child timeline but when Waker is a sequel involved in the adult timeline Twilight Princess Phantom America desk and Spirit Tracks keep the relationship to Ocarina that is presented in the official timeline four Swords and four Swords thus a duology made Trilogy with the addition of a Minish Cap is not involved with any of the other games and so it gives us our third grouping Triforce of a Gods 2 is a sequel to try for silver gods and has its own sequel Triforce Heroes this brings us to Skyward Sword breath of a wild and tears of a kingdom sometimes seen as a deuce Trilogy these titles share of the same director and bear some connections between one another they make our fourth grouping I approve his word around before but I believe it would be fitting to refer to these groupings as separate continuities that they have separate lore separate histories and separate consistencies and that as far as we you can tell there aren't any explicit connections between any of the games from these separate continuities I want to name these continuities the Triforce Arc the time split art before Sword Art and the goddess Arc or the demon king art what do you think I hesitate to call them timelines or continuities in their names because that sounds a little too technical for my taste and I think Arc works but you may have a better idea if we separate these stories into different continuities different ways the same events could have played out there are some interesting differences in the histories and canons of each of these arcs in the Triforce Arc the world is created by free gods and the times of that Arc by free goddesses and and the others it's unclear in the Triforce Arc the master sword is created as a result of imprisoning War and the goddess art the result of a great demon war and in the others it's unclear I'd love to go over the histories of each of its continuities in Greater depth in their videos as what we taken's account as Canon would be different for each Arc maybe a video to coverage history if anyone's interested anyway uh this is where my mind has been since tears of a Kingdom's release maybe this it's a bright approach maybe I'm thinking about it Ron but one vein has become increasingly clear to me and a lot of other Zelda fans that moving forward we should maybe start thinking about the timeline a little bit different [Music] foreign
