good evening youtube guess who's back hey it's been a minute it's blade banker hope everybody's doing well first off uh thank you to everybody for all of the kind words and everything that was said uh for the passing of my father-in-law it was really nice to have the community kind of rally around me and give us some time and help us uh get through it it's rough we're we did the funeral last weekend we've tried to kind of settle in and let everything settle in this week been a bit of a rough week but uh we're making do and i'm ready to get back to some video making so here we go i've got a a bit of a controversial film to start back film not like this is going to the oscars or anything this would be a video a short video [Music] um this is as the title shows is going to be top five overrated knives now no no no no no a couple of things i want you to keep in mind number one this is my opinion opinions mean nothing number two i'm not saying that any of these knives are bad actually the quite the opposite i think they're good knives the way that i am defining overrated is i think that they are good knives but there's a better knife at or below the price of said knife and i'm going to give you that better knife in my opinion uh and i'm gonna try to give you some prices the pricing is kind of all over the place because i'm trying to you know some of them are dated and i'll have to work with that date pricing plus what it is today so it's a little bit confusing but we will get through it this is my first video back so uh it'll be a little bit uh all over the place like it's already starting blade bankers back and already starting all over the place so bear with me we will get through it together and here we go okay folks so i'm going from five to one least overrated to most overrated uh again i don't think these i want to go over this again i don't think these are bad knives i think there is a better option for at or a lower price i think all of these knives are actually pretty good knives with the exception of a couple so i'm gonna go five to one and then i've got an extra thought that i want to put out there i was gonna put it in my countdown but i thought it would cause a little too much controversy so i wanted to just put a thought out there so number one first up on my overrated knives list is the trouble blade debt collector this one is the mini deck collector this one's got a crew wear blade it's titanium uh that's actually frag titanium yeah is it yes um it's got a cleaver style blade which you can see it's got a huge stock so trouble blades has had kind of a checkered pass they were around and they weren't now they're back this this knife costs about eight hundred dollars i was trying to look up pricing it's gone up to 900 950 at this point um i think it's a cool blade i it hasn't really set well with me because it just you know some blades speak to you if you will and this one hasn't so i do think there is a better blade i've had this one for a long long time and i have never even thought about carrying it but i did recently get a blade from casey gray who y'all know i'm a big big fan of now look at this this is a very similar style knife all right large blade stock cleaver style this is called the razor this one's got zirconium which is a fingerprint magnet that's why you see all my fingerprints on them it's got damascus bolsters all right it's got a damascus clip it's got titanium liners that are anodized it's got a a a gold thumb stud all right it's got a vegas forged sand my damascus blade all of this package keep in mind zirconium damascus sand my damascus from vegas forge all very very premium products you could call this fully dressed out the same price as this one now tell me as an owner of a knife which one would you rather have just i mean me automatically i go to casey gray not only because i i like him as a maker and i like how he does things but this blade is just fully dressed out versus this that is pretty standard and there's not a lot of bling to it if you will not that i'm a bling guy this is a very moderate bling you can see it's it's it's got all kind of if you could see inside those liners it's got mill work inside the liners as well it's got the anodized standoffs i mean it's just a really really nice blade so that's why i think the trouble blade debt collector is overrated and the blade that would replace it in my opinion is the casey gray razor so that's number five let's move along to number four number four is kind of going to be a two part and i'll tell you why you're gonna think i'm crazy when i show you this knife number four this is the demco ad20 with the shark lock okay this is a wonderful knife i mean it is so smooth so fidget friendly this one has the thumb stud and the hole super duper easy to work with i thought for a while that this would be trouble having that right there it's not it's it's it's a little bit of a hot spot right there but i don't you know hot spots don't bother me now why am i saying after i just talked about how good this is that it's overrated well there's a reason and i don't have a picture of the other one uh because it you're not going to be able to tell the difference this is the dimco ad20 okay now demco has an mgad20 okay that's a machine grind rather than hand ground okay this particular knife is about 800 825 dollars the machine ground one which is the exact same knife except the blade was ground by machine which you wouldn't even be able to tell a difference is 425 dollars so there's a 400 difference between this knife and the machine ground version that's why i'm saying this particular knife is overrated i'm and i'm using the term overrated not in the in the um historical sense or the or the normal sense okay i'm using it in in in the sense that i want to do this video so you can get essentially the same exact knife except it's not a custom air quotes for 400 left less so that is why i'm saying the 80 20 is overrated now along those same terms okay [Music] you can get the ad 15. this is a demco 8015 this one has green g10 and a tie upper this one is also a demco 8015 this one has carbon fiber and a tie upper okay you can get this knife it's kind of hard to tell because these knives are hard to find right now so you can buy one like this for about 500 up to this for about 800 if you find the right deals on them uh some are less some are more you just gotta kind of look around there's the only reason i'm saying this is overrated and i think it's an excellent knife i really don't think it's overrated in terms of use and practicality but in terms of price you can get the cold steel which i'll i'll put a picture up here so you can see it the cold steel ad15 for 205 to 215 so you're getting the same mechanism the same knife essentially same blade steel same everything but you're getting it for anywhere from 300 to 600 less pretty good deal okay for number three it's a little bit weird scenario that i'm giving you i'm giving you a couple of different versions so i've got the zt 350 which i've got two of so i'm gonna throw those out here one is extremely used and one has never been used and then i've got the zt 301 and i'm even including the is it the 300 or the 303 in there the black version of the 301 so i think these knives are cool knives uh clearly i don't like the assist part of it if you've been watching my channel for any time i'm not a big assist guy but these knives are neat the 301 is a full titanium build it is assisted as well it's got s30v it's a ken onion design the 350s also are canadian designs they also have the speed safe that zero tolerance and kershaw is so famous for these are partially serrated they're s30v blade steels as well they've got g10 handles instead of the titanium now why am i saying they're overrated well i'll tell you these these two right here cost about 156 dollars new this one has been discontinued and when you originally got it was like 280 bucks 300 bucks or something now i there's no telling how much it costs when things go discontinued they go extremely discontinued and extremely pricey so i'm going to move these aside and i'm going to show you the one that i think is a better deal but still gives you the same uh use kershaw blur kershaw blur is also made in the usa it uses the speed safe this one is the s30v version it is i believe this is aluminum with g10 uh kind of like inserts it's kind of like the um skateboard tape the grip tape on it um i think this particular knife gives you every single thing that you need in the 350 301 303 but instead of it being 150 to 300 dollars this one you can get from anywhere from 65 to 85 dollars again you got a nice big belly a little bit of recurve on there s30v blade it's got a good coating on it you've got a good handle it's got the speed assist uh it's got a this it's got a liner lock it's almost like a liner lock insert because it's so small in there but it does have liners um and all of that package is pretty much giving you exactly what you're getting right here except you're getting it for 65 to 85 instead of a hundred and fifty to three hundred dollars so that is why i have it at number three so we will move along to number two number two is the sage four okay the sage iv i don't have it's the only one of the five part series that i don't have there's a sage one two three four and five the sage series just to remind you is the same handle and same leaf shaped blade with the s30v blade steel except all of them the sage one is a ladder lock the sage ii is a frame lock or a reef integral lock the sage 3 is a ball bearing lock the sage 4 is a back lock and the sage 5 is a compression lock okay the sage 4 i do not have when it was brand new you could get it for before it was discontinued you could get it for about 200 bucks okay now and i'm gonna i've got a picture up here while i'm rolling and talking to you now that it's been discontinued trust me i have been trying to buy this knife for quite some time and i cannot get it i cannot find it for less than four hundred dollars okay now keep in mind this is just a backlock knife it's got a wooden handle it's got a nice wire clip which i really like it's got a bolster look to it uh s30v blade nothing special okay other than it belongs in this series and i can't find it for less than four hundred dollars anywhere i look now why do i think that's overrated because i think there is a knife just as good for a fraction of the price and that is this was on my knives most underrated video this is the spyderco chaparral okay this knife this is the plain jane version okay it's got cts xhp it's got frnn handles it's got the leaf shaped blade it's got the back lock everything is just like the sage iv it's got the wire clip except the blade steel is cts xhp it's a full flat grind just like the sage for it's got the back lock just like the sage for the biggest difference is this one right here costs 95 okay you can get chaparrals in different versions like you can get the carbon fiber one and it'll run you up to about 140 they've got some other ones if the only time it gets really expensive is if you get the titanium or the step titanium ones okay those can run up to two and three hundred dollars because uh the step titanium one of them has been discontinued the maybe even the titanium version has been discontinued so those prices have slowly creeped up on us but in my opinion this is number two because of that there's such a huge price differential and this chaparral does everything that the sage 4 does in addition to looking exactly like it except a little bit smaller and just different uh handle materials and blade material for that matter uh you know who's i'm not going to argue between s30v and cts xhp two totally different steels i'm not going to get into the argument over which one's better but in my opinion this version right here should be shown as as a a a version that can do everything that the sage iv can do for about 25 of the price so that is why it's at number two all right my friends number two i mean i'm sorry number one we are down to number one what here we go this one is hands down no questions asked to me is the benchmade griptilian now the reason i say the benchmade griptilian is overrated is because it is thrown in your face everywhere we go benchmade has made this knife and until they came out the crooked river and the bug out they made this knife their their knife that they wanted to be the staple of their company that they wanted to sell yes i have five of them okay um that does not mean anything they were just deals that i happen to pick up okay this knife from the mini griptilian costs anywhere from about uh yeah 100 to 110 dollars to the full-size griptillian may cost you 120 to 140 until now look i will say this i'm going to move these other griptilians aside i just didn't think the griptilian offered much in terms of i didn't like the feel of it holding it i didn't like even though i like 154cm steel that's what they used for a long time i thought they could have upgraded it many many times and they finally did i also hate um the frn that they use i can't stand the the plastic so they finally upgraded it and this is a mini version of the one that has the gray g10 with the blue liners and the 20cv blade steel now is benchmade doing soft 20cv yes every production company is doing soft 20 cv so i don't want to hear that argument all i'm saying is when they finally got it to a version that i kind of liked it's got the deep carry pocket clip this mini version is 175 the full version is 200 or 225 i can't remember which one i did not look up the full version now i think there's a better deal out there that is similar to the griptilian and i'm tired of seeing the griptilian i am so glad that the bug out in the crooked river came about because i was tired of every time you looked at benchmade or looked at a website that sold knives you had 600 million griptilians on there that you could buy i know a lot of people love this knife so i'm not knocking it for that reason i think from a everyday standpoint from an everyday carry it's a good knife especially this version that has the g10 and the 20 cv however that's 175 dollars when you can get a full size hogue dug ritter rsk mk1 generation 2 with g10 the able lock which by some accounts is stronger than the access lock it's got the 20cv blade steel look i don't want to hear the soft uh i'm not in here to talk about how it's being heat treated uh it's got a stonewash blade it too has a deep carry pocket clip all of this the full size version for 160 dollars and you can get the mini version for a hundred and forty that's thirty five dollars less and forty to sixty five dollars less between it's thirty dollars less on the mini thirty five dollars less on the mini i'm sorry and forty to sixty five dollars less on the full size i just think the hogue ritter is very similar if you like the griptilian i think it's a very similar product except it comes with better materials and it's just a better deal in my opinion i mean i'm just being honest with you again these are my opinion so let it go in one ear and out the other this g10 has a great texture on it that provides for really good gripping it's got small jimping on the spine of the blade and the spine of the handle that works incredibly well even though it's very small jimping okay i still think this version of the griptilian is a great one it's just higher priced when there's a the almost the same thing out there but to me is a little better in this and you can get it for much much much less of a price so that is why i think the benchmade griptilian is the most override rated in my case okay and also i'm talking about with the exception of the sage 4 but i had all the other knives in that collection i'm talking about knives out of my collection okay i just think if you're gonna go with the griptilian you might as well try the hogue ritter rsk mk1 g2 or the mini for that matter whichever one fits you better all right i don't ever have lock stick out of the able lock i have lock stick all the time out of the access lock uh especially on these griptilians for some reason these things just operate so so well i know there's a certain someone that likes to talk about how soft hogue uh 20cv is but look guys when you're doing it at 58 to 60 you got to make it soft enough where the everyday consumer can resharpen it and uh where it doesn't break on you all right i think the knife does well look if we're gonna most people that use a pocket knife use it for very specific reasons and aren't out there testing it all day long so for the for the reason that it is made it holds up just fine okay now i do want to talk about and give you a thought before i leave so let me put some knives out here and let's talk about okay folks here's my final thought you see out here the military the paramilitary two and the pair three okay here's my question and the thought i want to leave you with is the military family overrated i know i know y'all might hate me you probably already hate me for saying that is it overrated that's my question that's what i want to know have they made so many versions of it and so many sprint runs and so many exclusives that it has watered down the greatness of the knife that's my question and here's my other question if it is overrated is there a better option and is that better option this is the better option the manix the manix family as you can see i've got a manix 2 xl and then four manix 2's two of them are the same one is the light blue or the translucent blue that's cts bd1 and then one is the cpm rex 45. two hollow ground two flat ground and the main x2 xl is a full flat grind is that the better knife that is my question for you love to hear your comments i'm not gonna give my opinion it was gonna be in my top five but i could not make a decision you see i have a lot of paramilitaries militaries and pair of threes and i have a modest amount of manics or knives from the manix family i think as if you've seen my top five most underrated knives that the manix is the most underrated knife on the market however it's gaining a lot of traction they're doing a lot of sprints they're doing a lot of exclusives they're doing a lot of different versions of it is it better than the the military family that's my question that's what i leave you with thank you so much for tuning in i really do appreciate it i'm glad to be back thank you for all of your kind words in in our time of uh a little bit of family despair here i have really appreciated all the private messages and comments on uh youtube and instagram it really means a lot to me and my family and i will see you guys on the next one it'll be right around the corner take care guys
