i put up my skincare routine about a month ago and since then i've gotten so many questions asking me well what's the one thing that you think really did the most to help your skin or with all the different things that you use how do you know which of these things really works and so i want to kind of address that question today because you know i know everyone's looking for like that one thing that's going to do everything for you in your skincare routine and like strip away everything else but unfortunately you guys know i always have to give it to you straight and this is going to be no exception i don't think that there is one ingredient that is going to do everything you want for your skin because your skin is such a complicated organ and it has so many different ways of showing the signs of aging or you know whatever your skin care problems are that you want to solve so i think that rather than thinking about skin care as what's the one thing i can do that's going to be the silver bullet you got to think of it more as it takes a village and it's going to take a lot of different ingredients that are proven to work to really see the changes in my skin and i think that's the reason that i've had such good results over the years is that i do use a lot of different ingredients and it is hard to get a lot of different ingredients into skin care products and so what i tend to look for in my skincare are products that have a whole bunch of different ingredients in them so that each ingredient can tackle a different thing on my skin so one of my very favorite holy is tretinoin at 0.1 percent azelaic acid at five percent tranexamic acid at five percent and niacinamide at four percent so each ingredient does a different thing in here so i already told you what tretinoin does the azaleic acid and the tranxamic acid are for reducing redness in the skin and i don't know many people my age with sun damage who don't have a lot of redness especially across their nose and cheeks i do and that is really help to control the redness in my skin and then i have niacinamide in here and niacinamide is another really great ingredient niacinamide helps to even out your skin's texture it can help to reduce your pores and it can even out your skin tone so those ingredients in my future formula were put in there specifically for my skin and the issues that i'm having your skin to repair the existing damage that you got in the past you guys know back when there was no sunscreen i mean come on when we grew up and when we were coming up there was an spf 4 and that was it so we couldn't help but get sun damage yes the damage was done 20 years ago but using sunscreen every day now actually helps your skin to repair past damage more effectively you know i always tell you that whatever sunscreen you want to wear is great with me whether it's chemical or mineral but i personally prefer mineral sunscreens which is why i'm showing you this one because this is my holy grail sunscreen this one is an all mineral sunscreen and the other reason that this is a multi-tasker is because the minerals in the sunscreen are so soothing and calming to your skin so if you have any skin irritation from using active ingredients like tretinoin or you know whatever retinol this will actually help to calm and soothe your skin at the same time that it's protecting it and repairing it so sunscreen especially mineral sunscreens are such a multi-tasker they are so awesome and this one is so beautiful this is a tinted sunscreen and so i just love it because it kind of evens out my skin tone a little bit and it gives me that lip from within glow a lot of sunscreens will also have antioxidants in them and antioxidants are what is going to be next that i'm going to talk about but sunscreens with antioxidants in them can also help your skin in another way because you guys know that most people don't put on enough sunscreen most people don't reapply their sunscreen so even though you're trying to do your best you know it's not a 100 perfect tool some sun's rays will get through your sunscreen because of course it's a screen it's not a block they're not even allowed to call them block anymore because it can't block the sun it can only screen it and so what you need is antioxidants to help to kind of clean up the sun's rays that do get through the sunscreen because the sun's rays will cause free radicals to form in your skin and so antioxidants will help to neutralize those free radicals so some sunscreens do put in antioxidants my third holy grail multitasking product is my timeless skin care 20 vitamin c plus e plus ferulic acid serum now vitamin c in the form of l ascorbic acid is like the big daddy of vitamin c's it's the one with all the research and evidence behind it showing that it works but what it can do for your skin is that it can help to block pigment production so it can help you to not form more dark spots it can reduce fine lines and wrinkles and even out skin texture and it also helps to protect your dna and to protect your collagen and elastin even though vitamin c has been shown to be like the big one it is helped by those other two antioxidants so they all do their own mopping up of free radicals on their own but when they're combined they can actually improve each other's ability to do that by 16 fold antioxidants are another ingredient that it takes a village because they all do slightly different things there's lots of different antioxidants and i think getting lots and lots of different antioxidants into your skincare is important but the timeless is my favorite way to get it there are a couple of other products that i also love that are vitamin c serums depending on you know what your budget is and what kind of formula you like and i'll list a couple of options in the info box below the video and my fourth holy grail multitasking product is going to be a really great multitasking moisturizer you know you can't have great looking skin without a moisturizer but why use a moisturizer that just has one hydrating ingredient why not use a moisturizer that also has some other anti-aging ingredients so the best ones that i use are my cerave pm facial moisturizing lotion or my olay regenerist night recovery cream these are both such great multi-taskers because they each have three or four different active ingredients to help to moisturize your skin but also to help to anti-age your skin so they both have hyaluronic acid and they both have glycerin now those are both humectants that's a water binding molecule and basically what it does is it traps and holds water onto the surface of your skin they both contain niacinamide i already talked about niacinamide earlier now where they differ is that cerave contains ceramides and ceramides are fatty lipids and they're great for your skin your skin actually produces them naturally it's the most abundant fatty lipid in our skin and as we age our skin makes less of it so you want to supplement it from the outside in by using something like cerave so that can help to plump and firm your skin and just make it look so much dewer and fresh and juicy and who doesn't want their skin looking juicy and beautiful right so that is a really good one what the olay regenerist has instead of ceramides is it has peptides they list them as separate ingredients but together they kind of equal matrixyl which is the original anti-aging peptide it can help to build collagen it can help to reduce your fine lines and wrinkles it's definitely moisturizing so it's a great ingredient to have and then this one actually has one other added ingredient it also has green tea which is an antioxidant so there's another place to get more antioxidants into your skincare routine so these are really great moisturizers that bring a lot to the table and aren't just like one trick ponies so these are the products that i swear by these are the products that are my holy grails because they are multi-taskers they have multiple ingredients in them that do lots and lots of great things for your skin so that's it for
