New House Tour! Totally Remodeled + Updated

[Music] hey everybody it's angie and welcome to hot and flashy and welcome to my new home in today's video i've got my finished house tour for you i am so excited about it it's gonna be a before and after because you guys know how i love a good before and after so we gotta have befores and afters in here i'm so happy to say that my construction is finally 99 complete there's still a few little things that need finishing so you may see little pieces of blue tape around the house here and there but hopefully i'll get those things done soon this is a whole new adventure in my life for those of you who don't know i relocated from massachusetts to connecticut and i switched from a 1831 house in massachusetts very old house with very small rooms and i purchased a bright open modern condo here in connecticut so i'm so happy with the move and um i wanted to show you today before we get into the tour i thought it would be fun to look at the before pictures so you could see what i had to work with you know there was nothing wrong with the house per se it has really great bones the kitchen was just so closed off from the rest of the house a little galley kitchen it was dark and i just wanted to open the whole thing up and make it really modern and it has big windows and i loved almost everything about it it's just the style of the previous owners was not my style they had a lot of wall-to-wall carpet they had a lot of dated tile work and you know like the bathrooms were from the early 90s i did work with an interior designer on this house and she was awesome while the construction was going on i was still living in massachusetts so it was great to have some people local here who could come over on the weekend and check out the construction that had been done and the progress that had been made that i think shows you pretty much the entire house how it was before and so now let's start the after tour all right so when you first come into my house it's got this nice big foyer you guys have seen this mirror and this area a few times i always show you this in my vlog videos this is where i do my outfits of the day and sometimes i'll click a little insta pic here of an outfit so i've got this big mirror here that i brought from the other house and i love it that was in my bedroom a little basket of dog toys then on this side i've got my hall credenza that holds everything i need by the front door there was a closet here and then next to it there was a door there that went into the kitchen and where my island is now there was a wall that went all the way across and split the kitchen off from the rest of the house it also had a more traditional light fixture so i replaced all of the light fixtures in the house they were all very dated and also i had all the popcorn ceilings removed so all the ceilings were popcorn so i had that all scraped off and now it's all nice and smooth so now i don't have a coat closet here but i had the coat closet moved over to the other side of that wall originally the foyer had a kind of a pink square tile floor so i had the floors torn out and i put in this gorgeous oversized wide plank tile i love this tile it's just so pretty i love the scale of the planks and i love the coloring on it you know i'm really into gray and black and white then it meets up with the hardwood floor kind of in the middle of the island so we took the hall closet from over there to gain space in the kitchen and we moved it to over here so originally this whole area was the downstairs powder room and it just had a small door right there and it just seemed like a huge waste of space to me because you know the powder room doesn't need to be that big so it's a good size closet for coats and then we created this little hallway and then we go in here and we have the powder room oh there's actually one thing that i did keep from the old place is this pedestal sink i didn't see any reason to get rid of this but i did change out the faucet and the handles here and of course obviously moved the position of it i think the sink was like over here where the closet was back there and then i think the toilet was there we didn't move the toilet maybe we moved it down a little bit i can't remember i just love this little bathroom i went with a round mirror and these really cute light sconces they're so pretty i just love them the flooring in here was that same pink tile and so i had it replaced with the natural hardwood to match the hardwood throughout the house all right so here are the before pictures of the kitchen it was a small galley kitchen that was separated off from the rest of the house by a big wall but it was so weirdly constructed the countertop went straight and then went angled in towards the breakfast nook and they had an awkward little built-in desk in there and it closed it off and it made it very dark and here is the after on the kitchen i took out this wall here that blocked off the entire kitchen and just opened the whole thing up and put in a massive island i had this island made so huge because i needed to max out the storage space in the kitchen because i was concerned that there wasn't enough cabinet space on the wall over there which you'll see in a sec but the island is five feet by eight feet and i just love it i kept this side of it blank because that's what you see first thing when you come in the door is that side of the island although there are outlet my builder is so clever look at these this little strip of outlets under there isn't that awesome and you would never know they were there you know from a normal standing height i had the island done in black because i wanted it to be neutral you see the color scheme in here is black gray and white and then i can do pops of color with the furniture and things i have the quartz countertop this one is so pretty i looked at so many different quartzes before i found one that i loved and found a whole slab that i could look at i like this one because the veining is super subtle in it it's not really like trying to look like marble it's just looks really clean and modern and then of course i have these stools i wanted to be able to seat four people here at the counter very comfortably and i had the island made extra wide originally we were gonna do it about four feet by six feet i think and in the end i ended up going with a five foot by eight foot island because i had to have the cooktop on the island along with the vent hood and i didn't want people sitting here if i was cooking to feel like i was cooking on top of them getting splattered with grease that kind of thing so i wanted a lot of space and i wanted to be able to have back to back storage here so on this side of the island i have extra storage underneath and i just love these cabinets so they all have the pull out bins so there are three sets of cabinets under here you know that's just like occasional stuff that i don't use that often so moving around to the other side of the island this is where my microwave is underneath here and then looking at the island from the front side i just did three big drawers on either side of the oven and this was one of the last things to come in was my oven i waited six months for that little guy but it looks so pretty and i just love it and i love this cook top i had a four burner cooktop in my previous house i went for a five burner here with the big souped up burner for boiling a pot of water and i love the black stainless steel hood it's the only black stainless steel thing i got for the house you know the black stainless steel is really big right now but i heard that it scratches easily so i went with the hood because you know i never really touch it that much and i went with regular stainless steel for everything else where usually you'll have a wall behind your cooktop and cabinets up top you have spaces to put your knives and your spices and things right near where you're cooking but i didn't hear so i just put everything in these drawers so this is where i have all my utensils i have pots and pans in the bottom drawers and then something that i really love in this top drawer i have access to everything that i really need for cooking so here's all my spices in these cute little spice racks that just insert right into the drawers and they're expandable and then here are all my knives so i these are right there where i need them next to the cooktop for quick and easy access and looking across the island to the other side of the kitchen i've got a big pantry cabinet over here that's kind of where that hall coat closet used to be and there's a little awkward nook behind there that when we were designing it we thought oh no that's going to be a funky spot but it's actually a spot that i love because it hides my toaster and my air fryer and my keurig so you can't even see them from this angle that side of the kitchen all the cabinetry is white and it goes floor to ceiling and again the stainless steel appliances i've got the same white quartz countertop over here with the really subtle veining then on the wall i didn't have a ton of space for tile in this kitchen but i went with this small scale herringbone in the white carrera marble i think it's just so beautiful i wish i could have had a lot more of this but but there really just wasn't a lot of real estate for the walls in this part of the kitchen so i didn't have any huge areas for it to run but i do love how this part of the kitchen came out i love all the storage i have down here one of my favorite things is the drawer organizer i have in here this is a bamboo drawer organizer that expands to fit your drawer so that is awesome oh my gosh you guys can i tell you how much i love my sink i got a black sink it is so trendy right now but i had a stainless steel sink in my previous house and i was so disappointed by how fast that thing scratched up i remember in the first two weeks of having it i was like oh my god it's all scratched it doesn't look pretty anymore and this black sink you know i've been in here for three months and look at it it still looks brand new and then this is my beautiful faucet i hope i'm not boring you with the details i think that some people you know just want to see the layout of the house and what i did but i was really into the design details i mean i picked each and everything that went in this house so you know i spent months just you know selecting each faucet and each light fixture and each appliance and so it really was like my life for a few months so i hope i'm not totally geeking out on you guys but you know i have a design background so i just love designing things i love how it's got this knurled texture on the pull out and it's magnets in there pretty tight so this guy just pulls out and it has the spray and so anyway that is my beautiful faucet a little bit more of my beautiful tile and then over here in the breakfast nook not too many changes here except that of course i had that weird little desk taken out that was in there it seemed to just eat up space in there and of course i had the light fixture changed out i love this one i call this one my rain fixture and uh this ceiling actually goes quite high up in there so i wanted something really dramatic for here it's got this big cathedral ceiling you never you never even see it it's kind of a waste of space but anyway i just thought it was so dramatic and i just wanted to have this really cool dramatic light fixture up there and then look i actually got some furniture for part of my house i got this beautiful table look at the legs on the table they're just so pretty and then i grabbed these chairs i bought six of them so you'll see two in the dining room six are for here but they stack so i thought good to have an extra two in case i have ever six people over for dinner and we want to sit in here i bought most of this stuff online so i'll link all the light fixtures and all the faucets and everything in case you guys are doing a construction project and you see anything that you like here at my house and you're like oh my god that's just what i've been looking for so i'll go ahead and put those links in the info box below the video and then if we continue down into the living and dining area all i really did in this area is to have the floors sanded and stripped down below the old varnish and then they just put on a coat of water-based polyurethane so that they stay light and bright i'm gonna keep this dining room table i need a carpet for here i need some different chairs for there i did have the light fixture switched out so i had all of these lights switched out these were the big um like eight or nine inch cans and they switched them out with these uh ones that just look so much better and they just really disappear into the ceiling but basically the only things that changed in this part of the living room are that i updated the ceiling fan love that ceiling fan it's so pretty and i had this wall changed out they had some really basic cabinets there that really didn't fit the space they also had a wood burning fireplace and a traditional wood mantel so i went ahead and had that pulled out put in a gas fireplace put in this tile work and put in a modern floating mantel so this is so gorgeous i'm kind of bummed today that it's so cloudy out because this just sparkles in the afternoon the afternoon sun comes right through the doors and right through those beautiful skylights and there are so many gorgeous colors in this tile it's gray it's blue um it's turquoise it just lights up the room and just sparkles so gorgeously in the afternoon and then for the mantel i went with a fireproof metal mantel uh because those can get hot and i wanted it to kind of create a heat barrier between there and the tv so there really is no other place in here to hang the tv unless i turn the furniture away from the fireplace and put the tv on the wall behind me so it had to go above the fireplace but i'm happy with it there i got the samsung art tv so i can change the art depending on the seasons or you know whatever i feel like i can put my own pictures in there so i love that little guy it's so pretty and then i also had these cabinets swapped out had new cabinets built with new poles and i also used the remnants of the kitchen countertop for the countertops right here on these little cabinets so this is just like a little area of tchotchkes there and i have another one over there those bookshelves will have more shelves in them eventually but my builder took the shelves to repaint them and the kids are sleeping this carpet is going that sofa is going this sofa is going i bought a big sectional for here and i can't wait till it comes in but it's not coming until april this is a new piece of furniture that i bought i think it's a little smaller than i wanted it to be i wanted it to be a little bit bigger but we'll see how it goes with the new sofa and then of course i have the big deck outside there's my big lounge chair it's a big wraparound deck and i've got this lovely marsh out back so it's really pretty private and nice i've got it decorated for fall now the planters aren't doing so well i don't have cushions on the furniture because it was um it's really dewy here in the morning and everything gets so damp so i'll put the cushions out later now here we are going into the master bedroom this is one thing that isn't finished yet is my closet i did have the light fixture replaced and i love this guy i call this one my jellyfish notice my like little water theme going here i've got my jellyfish in there but the rest of my closet is not done i've had california closets out to take a look um they're gonna give me a design and a price and build it out so for now i've just got these temporary racks in here and it's not enormous for a master closet i mean it's going to be fine for me but if i was a couple yikes all right probably my favorite and the most dramatic do-over of the entire house is the master bathroom so here's the before on it it was quintessential 90s it had the elevated jacuzzi tub that was taking up half of the bathroom it had one little small vanity it was so poorly laid out the toilet was directly behind the door so if you open the door it banged right into the toilet so instead of that jacuzzi tub i put in this gorgeous little freestanding tub in the corner with its own little tub filler then you know me with the skincare and the vanities i needed a huge vanity so i created the vanity that went from wall to wall in this bathroom and i love it it's got enough room to hold all of my beauty products and then some and i switched out the floor in here from i think it was blue tile or white tile to this gorgeous gray herringbone oh my gosh you guys i stress so much over this herringbone the right scale of tile the right color of tile and if it didn't come out to be everything i wanted it to be and more and then the other tile that i love so much in this bathroom is this little hex tile this is just so beautiful it almost reminds me of like fish scales and then i went with the pure white on the countertops black underneath with silver hardware and then i put in these hexagonal light fixtures that just go so well with the little hexagonal tile and then in the shower this is the new glass that came in just a couple of weeks ago so i've got it sealed all the way up to the ceiling because i like to be trapped in there with all the steam i did this little half wall on the outside because i don't like to see the shampoo bottles and soap and scrunchies and stuff so everything is on the opposite side there's a little niche in there and i just love the tile for the shower it's like a little sparkly jewel box i just went with the gray glass subway tile but turned it up so that it has more of a you know waterfall kind of look to it i get the same shower heads and everything for both showers for mine i have this controller where you just set the temperature once and then all you do when you get in the shower is turn it on or off and the temperature is always set to the temp that you like it so i love that i did an accent stripe on the back wall in general i like the accent stripe to be behind the fixtures but the way the light hits in here it was going to look really flat on this wall so i decided to have it go on this wall so that it could really sparkle with the light coming in from the window and boy does it sparkle it looks so so beautiful and then for the floor i did a pebble shaped frosted glass so this kind of reminds me of sea glass as well you know kind of a beach theme going on here because i am near the water and then over here this is the little built-in niche that i had done so that holds my shampoo and conditioner and stuff down here there's a little bench to put your foot up when you're shaving your legs so on this side of the bathroom i had the toilet moved from behind the door into where there had been a linen closet so let me just close the door here so you can see so in the old bathroom the toilet was right here sticking out in this direction and you had to kind of squeeze in there to get to this linen closet that was right where the toilet is now so instead i had the linen closet reversed into the room behind there which is the laundry room so i have a place for the extra towels and everything just on the other side of that wall right there put the toilet in that little alcove and it's a perfect little toilet size so then from there we go into the master bedroom where i really didn't have much done in here the previous owners had wall-to-wall carpet in here i had the carpet pulled out i had new hardwood put down i went with a wider plank wood than is out in the main part of the house in the living room so this is a four inch plank i swapped out the light fixture i love this light fixture i think they might have had a ceiling fan there but i'm not a big person for ceiling fans so i got this really beautiful light fixture i just love that it's quite a large bedroom so all i really did here was get rid of the popcorn ceilings new fresh coat of paint on the walls and it's a whole different room so now if we're going to go upstairs that was pink puffy wall-to-wall carpet oh my gosh it was so ridiculous looking and then i just had the steps refinished and painted we turned the corner and i actually had this closet kind of rebuilt because it had i don't know kind of really tiny weird shelves inside i think it had like wire rack shelves and i wanted this to keep all my pr samples so this is an entire closet of pr samples and oh my gosh does this help me to keep my world so so organized and across from there we have the upstairs bathroom this was so dated i went with the gray and white marble penny rounds on the floor i got a nice floating vanity i think i got that from wayfair maybe and i love how it has this integrated sink these things are just so cool i just kept it simple and use the same faucet for this bathroom as i got for my bathroom downstairs for this medicine chest for the kids i wanted them to have extra supplemental lighting to do their makeup so i got them this led medicine chest it is so cool i had this wall done as like an accent wall in tile it's just like a white big oversized tile had the toilet replaced and then i think this was a tub shower combo so i had this built out to be just a stand-up shower the tile in here i just love it's these elongated pickets and then of course they have their little niche to hide their shampoos and stuff and then there are two bedrooms one for each of the daughters we'll just glance in those quickly this is daughter number one's bedroom i did want a separate bedroom for each of my daughters since i was selling their childhood home so they each have a bedroom here and they're each going to decorate them the way that they want to decorate it i gave them carte blanche to do whatever they wanted this one is the sentimental one she wanted all of her stuff from massachusetts to come here with her all right and then the last room is the upstairs family room which i have of course converted into my filming studio so this is a really really big space again it's got those high vaulted ceilings i love this sputnik light that i have put in up here it's so beautiful the other thing i had done is i had lights put on top of those beams for just like some nighttime mood lighting if i just want to watch tv and have a little bit of light on isn't that so gorgeous these had track lights on them before so i had those taken off and had the bottoms of the beams filled in and put these up lights i have a little seating area over here i'm going to replace this sofa i brought that from home eventually i'll get like a little conversation pit going over there but this is my recording studio this is where i sit to make all my makeup videos so you can see my camera my lights then i have the view out of these big gorgeous windows here of the marsh so i can see what's going on out there the entire upstairs was that pink wall-to-wall carpet so i had the carpet taken up there were three different built-ins up here there was a desk a bookshelf and then an entertainment center i kept only the entertainment center but it was so weirdly built in there like it was stuck in a closet so i had the walls around it stripped back and had the whole thing painted white so this has become such a pretty area and of course this is the one area that i always keep it nice and clean because this is what you guys see in the backgrounds of my videos so that's another one of those samsung frame tvs i have a different piece of art on this one and then swinging around over this way this is my editing desk where i do all my editing of my videos it's tiny this is the desk that i used to film on that used to be the one that sat in front of my camera and this big double desk which is just basically an ikea glass table top on a couple of legs that used to be my editing desk and i did order a new desk for here that's bigger and white and pretty but it won't be in until february of course there's more art that needs to be hung every room has a fresh coat of white paint there was a planter box here that they had some ivy in that grew out over the edge and so i had the planter
