Montreal is Canada's second biggest metropolitan area with 4.4 million inhabitants on the island and is known as one of the most Multicultural cities in all of Canada having lived in Montreal all my life and having worked in Montreal real estate for the past six years I certainly know this city quite well including all of its pros and cons that's why in today's video I'm going to share with you a list of all the top pros and cons of living in Montreal but first let's roll the intro [Music] foreign hi everyone Josh here and before we start I just want to remind you to hit the Subscribe button and turn on the post notifications so that I can continue to make more content like this in the future Montreal is a beautiful city filled with diversity amazing food and wonderful people but that's not to say the city doesn't have its cause so let's kick off this video and hop into the first con of living in Montreal which is the constant construction Montreal is notorious for the orange cones and the construction all throughout the city if ever you visit that is usually one of the first things you'll notice working on the city roads and infrastructure is actually a good thing but sometimes it feels like the city puts up orange cones for fun because you really do see them everywhere it also seems to take a long time for construction projects in Montreal to get completed which over time can frustrate many montrealers moving on to con number two which is kind of related to the construction Montreal is known for some pretty bad traffic especially during rush hours during the mornings on weekends and after work hours traffic on the roads can become pretty bad as most major cities experience I'm not sure our traffic is as notoriously bad as our Ontario Neighbors in Toronto but you're definitely going to want to plan ahead if you have somewhere to be and have to leave during rush hour for myself Waze is definitely a close friend of mine when driving around the city for Real Estate showings con number three would have to be our Winters winter could be very cold in Montreal and we certainly experience a fair bit of snow we'll usually start to experience colder weather in November see our first snowfall in December and then start to warm up in March and April during our coldest months of January and February temperatures average minus 10 degrees Celsius but on the coldest days it can get to minus 30 degrees Celsius and with the windshield it can feel even colder I can honestly say after living here all my life you kind of get used of it and Montreal does do a good job of plowing on the streets and making sure they are cleared after major snowstorms but you still have to make sure that you dress warm moving on to the fourth con of living in Montreal which are the potholes after the cold Winters and when the weather starts to warm up driving on the roads can sometimes feel like driving in a Minefield trying to avoid all the potholes the city does try to fix them but our roads unfortunately are known not to be the smoothest especially in the springtime coming in is Con number five Montreal housing is no longer as affordable as it used to be we're definitely not on the same level as Toronto or Vancouver however the median price for a single-family home on the island of Montreal in the fourth quarter of 2022 with 680 000 and for condos it was 435 thousand dollars luckily Montreal has some cities located just on the outside of the main island that can definitely make breaking into the real estate market much more affordable and easier Canada does have free health care but finding a family doctor in Montreal can be difficult called and has a long wait list that is why I am making it Con number six in Montreal and around Canada there has been a shortage of doctors for many years now and it could take several years before you are matched with a family doctor finally the last con for Montreal is how busy it can get during rush hour on the buses metros and trains a lot of people in Montreal tend to use public transportation to get around and it can get very busy during rush hours our public transportation systems whether it be buses metros or trains pass very often during rush hour however in most cases you can still expect there to be long lines and for it to get quite crowded now that we've made it through all the cons of living in Montreal we can finally discuss the pros of living in the city so here are my top 10 pros of living in the beautiful city of Montreal starting with its vibrancy Montreal is simply a vibrant City it is filled with history beautiful architecture art and culture just simply walking around you'll know notice historical buildings murals on building walls and there's always something going on you can check out many different Museums Art Galleries unique cafes or visit some more Suburban areas that are more calm and have nature parks where you can relax personally I find Montreal is very unique for that and that is why it is our first pro the second Pro Montreal is that it is very Multicultural Montreal is a Melting Pot with people from all over the world and when you walk around the streets you will not only hear French and English being spoken but many other languages as well many people from around the world choose to call Montreal their home which says a lot about the city and its charm in itself the third Pro of living in Montreal is that there is always something to do in the Summers you can go to the Old Port and walk around or check out the international Jazz Fest or Comedy Fest and you can even watch the Grand Prix live and enjoy the weekend's festivities during the winters you can enjoy the beauty of the snow go skating on the outdoor rings have fun sledding down the Hills or even take a short drive just outside of the city to go skiing or snowboarding on one of the many Hills located not far we even have winter festivals like Igloo Fest and reblanche all that to say Montreal always has some sort of activity you can keep yourself busy with when you're not working Pro number four of living in Montreal is its schools Montreal is home to some of the best schools including McGill University Concordia University and John Wilson School of Business there is also a mix of well-recognized private schools and very reputable public schools for all education levels people come from all over the world to attend our universities especially McGill as it is ranked in the top 50 of the best universities globally Montreal is known for its excellent food and variety if you're a foodie then Montreal will definitely be a good City for you and that is why it is pro number five we are famous for smoked meat sandwiches bagels and puts in but we also have amazing restaurants located all throughout the city that can satisfy what all your food needs you can literally find any type of food you want and for the most part it's going to be tasty if you like sports then Pro number six is also for you Montreal is home to the Montreal Canadians CF Montreal and the Montreal Alouettes and that means it's home to Die Hard sports fans hockey in this city particularly attracts the most fans and you can always watch a sports game live throughout the year coming in is pro number seven Montreal is a bilingual City in Montreal for the most part everyone speaks both French and English I know this might not be a pro to everybody watching this video but growing up being able to communicate in two different languages definitely has its benefits and it's one of the things that makes Montreal very unique Pro 8 is the safety of the city despite Montreal being one of the largest cities in Canada Montreal actually has one of the country's lowest crime rates you can walk around pretty much any part of the city at any time and feel safe of course course there are always exceptions to that rule but generally you don't have to worry much about it Montreal is a big city with a lot of opportunities for work which is why it is pro number nine whether you work in engineering Pharmaceuticals telecommunication software the hospital system or construction there are always new positions opening up it's a competitive market however like I said there are always opportunities to find work finally Pro number 10 of living in Montreal is that for being Canada's second largest metropolitan area home prices aren't that expensive to compare it to some other cities in Canada I know I had mentioned in my list of cons that Montreal home prices have become less affordable than they used to be however considering you're able to live in a major city of Canada the home prices are relatively reasonable compared to other major cities like Toronto and Vancouver not only that Montreal has surrounding areas just off the island such as Laval voteroy and the South Shore that are not very far at all and can make living here much more attainable for most people well there you go that is my list of the top pros and cons of living in Montreal hopefully you found it helpful if you made it this far I want you to let me know Below in the comments any
