what are the most reliable and longest lasting SUVs that you can buy for 2023 that's what we're going to find out welcome to crop corner where we help you the consumer Master the process of car buying and car ownership for this video I'm going to share the 10 most reliable SUVs that you can buy for 2023 that are known to last around 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers without having any major repair issues the information for this video is provided by iccars.com a reputable car buying website that analyzed over 260 million cars on the road between 2012 and 2022 for their annual reliability study and stick around until the end because I'm also going to share the longest lasting sedans minivans and trucks from the study as well but before we get into it remember if you enjoy and get value of this video make sure to subscribe and turn on the notifications I post two videos a week always straight to the point valuable car buying advice designed to help you the consumer so let's get the list started with number 10 which is is the Toyota Highlander according to the study the Toyota Highlander has a 17.5 percent chance of lasting 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 1.2 times more than the average SUV and that's no surprise considering that the Highlander has always had an excellent reputation for strong reliability Toyota has been making it for over two decades and it has a very well proven track record so if you want a reliable three-row family SUV it's hard to find a safer Choice than the Highlander and to make it even more attractive the Highlander is also available as a fuel-efficient hybrid which also has an excellent reputation for strong reliability and next up on the list in the number nine spot we have the Toyota RAV4 according to the IC car study the RAV4 has an 18.1 percent chance of lasting 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 1.2 times more than the average small SUV and again this one was no surprise to see see make the top 10 list the RAV4 has long been known for being one of the most reliable and trouble-free SUVs that you can buy and that's true regardless of whether you go with the regular RAV4 which has a very well proven four-cylinder engine or the RAV4 hybrid which has a hybrid system that Toyota has been using for over two decades so whether you want a safe practical and affordable small SUV or a hybrid SUV you really can't go wrong with the RAV4 and next up in the number 8 spot we have a full-sized SUV which is the Ford Expedition I have to admit I was a bit surprised to see the Expedition on the list but even so according to the study it has a 19.9 percent chance of reaching 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 1.3 times more than the average full-sized SUV now it's hard to say how much of this reliability is more attributed to the older Expeditions which used a V8 engine as opposed to the newer Expeditions which have an eco boost twin turbo V6 engine the ecoboost engine in the Expedition is also shared with the F-150 truck which does have a rather spotty reputation for reliability sometimes having turbo issues timing chain and timing cover issues as well as a few other problems too however because the Expedition is an SUV instead of a truck and it's not really subjected to the same kind of Workhorse heavy duty abuse that a truck might see it does seem to have better reliability so if you want a long lasting full-sized SUV you could certainly do a lot worse than the Expedition but if you want a more reliable Choice then let's move on to number seven on the list which is the GMC Yukon according to the study the Yukon has a 21.4 percent chance of reaching 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 1.4 times more than the average SUV as far as full-size body on frame SUVs go I really think the Yukon is one of the best choices that you can go for it's extremely comfortable and practical Choice with a ton of interior space and a lot of great technology it also has a choice of two different V8 engines both of which are extremely smooth and refined and although there certainly have been some reliability issues especially with the cylinder heads and lifters on the V8 engines for the most part these are now Fairly reliable SUVs but not everybody really needs or can afford a full-sized SUV like the Yukon fortunately the number six SUV is a lot more affordable and that one is the Subaru Outback according to IC cars the Outback has a 22.3 percent chance of lasting 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 1.5 times more than the average SUV and not only does the Outback have a great reputation for having strong reliability but it's also known for being one of the most comfortable and spacious SUVs that you can buy in the segment it also offers a choice of either a 2.5 liter engine or a more powerful 2 2.4 turbo engine and you also have a lot of great technology including Subaru eyesight safety technology with a top-notch safety score so as a whole you really can't go wrong with the Subaru Outback and moving on to the next SUV in the number 5 spot we have the Honda CRV according to the study the CRV has a 27.5 chance of reaching 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 1.8 times more than the average SUV that's very impressive but not all that surprising considering that the CRV has always had a great reputation if you want a safe practical and affordable SUV you just can't go wrong with it and to make it even more attractive Honda even offers it as a fuel efficient hybrid which is arguably the best version to go for so as a whole the CRV is a solid choice and a great pick for a reliable long-lasting SUV and next up in the number 4 spot we have the Acura MDX according to the study the m MDX has a 29.2 percent chance of reaching 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 1.9 times more than the average SUV again this is one that I would have to agree with although the early versions of the MDX did suffer from some transmission issues as a whole the MDX has always had a solid reputation when it comes to reliability it's been on the market for over 20 years and has a very solid track record and it even continues to use the same 3.5 liter V6 engine which Honda and Acura have been using for an extremely long time so if you're looking for a well-designed luxury SUV that also happens to be very reliable the MDX is a great choice as is the next SUV in the number three spot which is the Toyota 4Runner according to IC cars the Forerunner has a 41 chance of reaching 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 2.7 times more than the average SUV that's pretty incredible but again no real surprise considering that the Forerunner has always been extremely well known for its tank-like durability not only is it built for heavy duty off-road use but it also has a time-tested 4-liter V6 engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission which had been used by Toyota for an eternity it's been around for so long and so thoroughly debugged at this point that it's likely one of the most reliable vehicles that you can find on the market today but as incredible as the Forerunner is there is another SUV that came even higher on the study so let's move on to the number two SUV which is the Honda Pilot according to the study the pilot has a 42.7 percent chance of reaching 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 2.8 times more than the average SUV although the pilot is certainly known for being a very reliable SUV I have to admit I was rather surprised to see that it did beat the Forerunner but I think that's just due to the fact that the pilot is a more heavily used type of SUV and that's because this is a family SUV designed for Workhorse Duty and racking up huge mileage and if that's what you're looking for the pilot is certainly a very solid choice but it's still not the longest lasting SUV in the study so let's move on to the number one pick which is the Toyota Sequoia according to the IC car study the Sequoia has a 47.1 percent chance of reaching 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers which is 3.1 times more than the average SUV that's pretty incredible but again no real surprise considering the sequoia's amazing track record for having strong reliability whether you're looking for a capable off-road SUV a big family SUV or a vehicle that's built for handling a lot of Towing the Sequoia is a great choice now it is worth mentioning that the brand new Sequoias do use an all-new twin turbo V6 Hybrid drivetrain and remains to be seen how reliable they really are in the long term although it's unlikely to be quite a solid and long lasting as the V8 engine in the old Sequoia I still would be willing to give it the benefit of the doubt now with that said it is worth mentioning that there were two other SUVs that did make the IC car's top 10 list and these were the Honda Element and the Toyota Land Cruiser but because you can no longer buy these SUVs brand new in North America I decided not to include them on the list there were other vehicles in the study however that also performed extremely well in the sedan category for example we have the Toyota Camry which has a 20.4 chance of reaching the mileage Milestone there was also the Honda Accord which has a 27.1 percent chance of also reaching the same mileage Milestone and the number one sedan most likely to reach 250 000 miles or 400 000 kilometers well that would be the Toyota Avalon another sedan that unfortunately you can no longer Buy brand new in the minivan category however the minivan with the highest likelihood of reaching that mileage is the Toyota Sienna with a 23.3 percent chance and as for the truck category while both of those also happen to be Toyotas as well for mid-sized trucks the Toyota Tacoma has a 41.7 chance of reaching the mileage Milestone and in the full-size truck category the Toyota Tundra has a 47.9 percent chance which is way higher than any other comparable full-size truck if you're beginning to see a pattern there's no question Toyota absolutely dominated the study with the most winners in every single category it's always interesting to see reliability data such as this especially such comprehensive data that covers over 260 million cars on the road and the takeaway is this even though there are still a lot of solid choices to choose from if you had to pick just one car brand to go with on the safe side it would have to be Toyota so there you have it let let me know what you thought of this video and if you have any suggestions
