what are the worst new SUVs that you can buy for 2024 that's what we're going to find out welcome to Car Corner where we help you the consumer Master the process of car buying and car ownership if you're planning on buying a new vehicle then this video is for you I'm going to share the absolute worst new SUVs that you should not waste your money on that are absolute Rock Bottom for safety reliability and value whether it's because they're just poorly designed overpriced or known for having reliability issues these are the top SUVs that you should avoid buying for 2024 and many of these also happen to be the slowest selling SUVs on the market so clearly I'm not the only one who is rejecting them before getting into this list though remember if you enjoy and get value of this video make sure to subscribe and turn on notifications so let's start off the list with the SUV in the number 10 spot which is the Jeep Wagoner if you buy a Wagoner you better be okay with just putting all your money into a giant pile and lighting it on fire because that's basically what you're doing first off the Wagoner is a hideously overpriced vehicle for what you're getting they go for around 70 to $80,000 to start but the grand Wagoner version can go north of $100,000 and a test drive unit that I had earlier in 2023 was even pushing north of 120,000 which is an absolutely ridiculous amount of money to spend on a Jeep when you have so many better SUVs that you can buy for that money instead and because the wagon is so overpriced it's also a really slow seller so if you buy one of these you better be prepared to lose a ton of money in depreciation and you also better be prepared to spend a lot of money in repairs because Jeep doesn't exactly have a great reputation in that area either the Wagoner is relatively new but it's already had a number of report issues mostly electronic issues leaking sunroofs and a few drivetrain complaints as well Jeeps are just not known for having Stellar build quality so it's it's very likely that the number of complaints and issues with the Wagoner are only going to increase as these vehicles age and the Wagoner is not even class leading when it comes to Interior Space Comfort performance or fuel economy either so if you want to buy a full-sized SUV you have way better Alternatives that you could be buying instead now if you want to see a list of the worst luxury SUVs that you should avoid buying I'll put a link to that video up in the top corner but for now let's move on to the next SUV in the number n spot which is the Volkswagen ta the TA is easily one of the worst subcompact crossovers available on the market right now and an overpriced one at that I test drove one earlier in 2023 and had so many complaints with it I just couldn't wait to give it back for one thing the all-wheel drive versions come with a very jerky and unrefined dual clutch transmission which is a terrible transmission design to have for almost any SUV I mean just imagine if it's jerky and unrefined when the vehicle is brand new imagine what it's going to be like when the vehicle is out of warranty the 1.4 turbo 4cylinder engine also had poor performance and fuel economy and it was just a really overpriced vehicle for what you were getting and to top things off Volkswagens are not exactly known for having Stellar long-term reliability especially well beyond the warranty period and they're also known for being extremely expensive to repair as well the complicated turbocharged small displacement engine the Dual clutch transmission and a number of electronics don't exactly paint a good picture when it comes to long-term ownership costs so if you are shopping for a small crossover SUV the to is one that you should definitely not waste your money on and that's also definitely true of the SUV in the number eight spot which is the mini Countryman the Countryman is the mini that's really not so many this is mini small crossover SUV and as far as I'm concerned it's just an overpriced underwhelming vehicle to purchase they typically go in the mid $40,000 range but they can easily push a price tag close to $660,000 and I'm sorry but for that kind of money there's just much better options that you could be buying instead the Countryman is not a particularly comfortable SUV to drive it's really nothing special when it comes to Performance or fuel economy either and its track record for reliability is spotty at best older minis are known for having all kinds of issues from random electronic issues to engine problems that include timing chain valve guide and oil consumption issues as well and because mini is part of BMW you better believe that anytime a mini needs anything repaired on it it's going to cost a fortune to fix now I know there's an all new design for the countrymen that's coming for the 2025 model year that should address some of these complaints but in any case if you are shopping for a small crossover SUV there are much better choices out there so don't waste your money on this one and now moving on to the SUVs in the number seven spot we have a tie between the Chevrolet Equinox and the GMC Terrain now I'm putting these two together because they are mechanically identical SUVs with the exact same platforms and these same drivetrains I think if you're shopping for an SUV in the $ 30 to $40,000 price range these ones are just about as bad as you can get not only are they extremely outdated when it comes to their designs interior technology and also have very poor safety scores from the IHS that alone should be enough to cross them off your list but they don't exactly have very good track records when it comes to reliability either the older versions of these SUVs with the 2.4 and 3.6 L engines were known for having all kinds of issues from timing chain problems to oil consumption and even though the newer ones with the 1.5 and 2 L turbo engines do seem to have improved a bit in those areas they still don't exactly have a really strong track record and there just isn't enough value here or really much of anything to justify spending any money on them so if you want to buy a compact crossover definitely cross these ones off your list and next up in the number six spot we have another GM SUV which is the Chevrolet Blazer the Blazer is another example of an overpriced underwhelming SUV that you should just not be wasting your money on not only are Blazers incred ibly expensive typically going in the $4 to $50,000 price range but you're really not getting all that much for your money although the interior space and cargo space is not too bad they do have a rather cheap and unimpressive interior and they're nothing special when it comes to Performance or fuel economy either and to top things off the 3.6 V6 engine does have a history of a number of reliability issues including timing chain issues and oil consumption it's been major news news now that GM is going to be introducing an all electric version of both the Blazer and the smaller Equinox for 2024 and these should be dramatically better than the internal combustion engine versions that we currently have but if going electric is not your thing and you just want a traditional gas vehicle well there are much better SUVs that you could be spending your money on than the Blazer so just avoid buying this one and now let's move on to the SUV in the number five spot which is the Ford Explorer the Explorer is another example of a really underwhelming SUV that just doesn't deliver enough for its rather high price tag there is absolutely nothing class leading about this SUV when it comes to performance fuel economy it doesn't have an especially great safety score either the interior space is on the tighter side when it comes to three row SUVs and it also has a rather cheap feeling interior with really dated technology on top of that now there is an st version with much better performance thanks to a twin turbo V6 engine and out of all the versions that you can buy this is probably the most appealing one of the lot but then again with a price tag that pushes north of 60,000 even close to 70,000 you're really not getting much value for your money especially considering that the Explorer is not really known for having great reliability with all kinds of issues with its EcoBoost engines the transmission and electronic problems and also having poor resale value as well but sadly the Explorer is not the only SUV from Ford to make the list in the number four spot we also have the Ford Escape now although I am a fan of the Escape as the hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions which are actually pretty good SUVs it's a completely different story when it comes to the escape with the EcoBoost engines both the 1.5 and 2 L turbo 4cylinder engines do have a history of a number of reliability issues they've also been involved in very serious safety recalls which are rather concerning as well and not only is the quality and reliability of the Escape problematic but it just doesn't offer very good value for the money so if you're shopping for a small crossover SUV it's best to avoid the escape and buy something else instead and next up the SUV that we have in the number three spot is the Mitsubishi Eclipse cross now although Mitsubishi is a brand that doesn't exactly have too many winners here in North America the eclipse crosses one that you should definitely be avoiding perhaps the most significant issue with this SUV is its really poor safety rating the IHS ranked it as one of the least safe small SUVs that you can buy for 2023 with a number of poor ratings and different safety criteria but not only does it have a poor safety score but it's just a poor SUV to buy period for its price tag it really doesn't have anything to offer that you can't get in one of its much better competitors and on top of that Mitsubishi as a brand is known for having a lot of issues in North America including a very small dealer Network being problematic when it comes to Parts availability and servicing so why exactly would you go ahead and waste your money on one but amazingly there are even worse SUVs that you should be avoiding including the one that's in the number three spot which is the Jeep Compass I have long warned against buying the compass in many of my other videos and nothing has really changed for 2024 when it comes to reliability and quality safety and value for money the compass is easily one of the worst SUVs that you can buy and even though jeep has really tried to improve the compass over the years introducing a newer much nicer interior along with a more powerful turbocharge engine it really hasn't done all that much if anything it's only made the compass a much worse value this is a vehicle that used to cost in the low $20,000 range and now if you want to buy one with a lot of options you could easily be spending well north of $40,000 which is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a compass who really wants to waste their money on a lowquality vehicle that has a poor reputation for reliability and is also going to depreciate rapidly over time I don't know anybody who would so don't waste your money on the compus because you have way better options that you could be buying instead but whatever you do don't go and waste your money on the vehicles that I put in the number two and the number one spot on this list which are without a doubt the worst new SUVs that you can buy for 2024 and those SUVs are the Jeep Renegade and the Fiat 500 x now I'm putting these two vehicles together because they are more or less mechanically identical running on the exact same platform and they also both share the same issues and have the same reasons as to why you should avoid them when it comes to Quality reliability safety performance they're just basic value for the money there is absolutely nothing that these two SUVs have to offer they are known for having a number of reliability issues and quality concerns especially as they age beyond the warranty period they have very poor safety scores from the IHS and frankly they're just terrible SUVs to drive nothing special when it comes to their performance Comfort or features in technology either and it might also come as no surprise that next next to the Jeep Compass the Renegade and the 500x are some of the slowest selling vehicles on the new car market and there are so many reasons why these particular vehicles are just piling up on dealer Lots they're incredibly overpriced offer very little value and most consumers know that they're just a total waste of your money as far as I'm concerned even a decent amount of discounts and incentives are not enough to consider buying one of these SUVs so if you're in the market for a new vehicle just avoid the these ones at all costs now I think it goes without saying that not every single buyer of one of these vehicles is going to have a negative ownership experience but just because there are a few happy owners out there doesn't mean that those are the norm the vast majority of consumers who have purchased these vehicles have had a negative ownership experience in some way and have even regret buying the vehicle in the first place so if you are in the market to buy a new SUV now you know
