hi guys welcome to Big Oil fishel today we're going to look at my top 10 greatest will Strongest Man competitors of all time [Music] so to start with on anyone's list is the famous probably the most famous British strongman of all time Jeff capes Jeff back in the day can have brought a strongman to the nation everyone was watching on BBC one probably over 10 to 20 million viewers used to watch it was back in a day where there obviously wasn't you know lots of lots of different channels to watch and people used to sit around and watch strongman at Christmas and Jeff was the real first guy that could have made it popular in the UK obviously a two-time winner of the title you know Jeff was a brilliant athlete he had epic rivalries between John Paul Sigma s'en and Bill Kazmaier as well later in in Bill's career but jeff has to be on anyone's left two-time winner of world Strongest Man just the character that he was and the kind of the build the building up of the sport in this country you know without Jeff it just wouldn't be the support that it is today we wouldn't have people kind of saying oh I'm strongman Christmas you know even watching it since we little kids or or with our dads or whatever back at Christmas he was the man that started it off and as a two-time winner has to be on anyone's list next up at number nine I have a silver ass joke now this is a guy that unless you're really like diehard strongman fan you might not have heard of he's definitely probably the least known guy on my list to be honest but he was an incredible strongman and he won in a very very tough era where Mariusz Pudzianowski was dominating and the dryness was kind of starting to shine and show the em you know dominance that he had in the sport Vasil one world Strongest Man in 2004 and he was just one of the most intense and determined guys you could meet he wasn't there to joke about he was there to win and he was one of the first guys that I used to really like enjoy watching just before I got into the sport his kind of intensity his leg power the way he moved with weights he was probably you know one of the reasons I could have really enjoyed the yoke and the farmers walk watching this guy you know he was so fast and so explosive really strong legs really strong overhead and just a very very determined man anything that involves kind of pain he'd be there and you know he was one of those guys which was mentally hard to break as well as willing world Strongest Man he won the IFS of World Championships so one of any two people thats ever managed to win both titles world Strongest Man for those that don't know in 2000 after 2004 split if the split from from world Strongest Man and well Strongest Man went off and ran their shows of Mary's Petrovski stayed in those but all the other top athletes that were competing at the time went into if so so you know the FC titles from 2005 2006 2007 were much harder contests than world Strongest Man but luckily well strongest man can have got all the athletes back in 2008 and you know now we have all the top guys compete in one place again but for a little while there's that split and you know you for fans that don't realize that you know there was guys that were winning big titles back then that weren't televised on that kind of normal world Strongest Man show but Vasil great athlete unbelievably fast and powerful probably had a shorter career than some of the guys he ended up getting a bit of back injury and had to retire but he was incredible to watch and definitely one of my favorites number eight the one and only John Paul Sigma soon and a lot of people I know would have him much much higher on their lists I have you know we're all we've all got our own opinions John Paul was definitely without question one of the most charismatic and entertaining strongmen there's ever been and really the first kind of guy that that people got behind is just a character not just because of how strong he was just the way he was a four times winner of World's Strongest Man which is an incredible achievement personally I think he didn't deserve the win in 2000 in 1990 against Tony Wilson od was dominating that contest and the organizers changed the last event to throw in well it was essentially putting a few bricks on your back and running around the 200 meter course and Odie Wilson being up at nearly 190 kilos just didn't move too well in long-distance events like that it was actually seven points in the lead going into the last event came last and John Paul did what he had to do to win but that contest aside John Paul was a dominant strong man you know the other three titles he thoroughly deserved he had epic battles again between him Bill Kazmaier and Jeff capes an amazing package of strength athleticism speed and ability he had a great physique as well so you know the people have always said like in recent times you don't have to be fat to be strong but that John Paul was proving that many many years ago and it's just one of the biggest characters in the Spore and it was a shame he was taken from us too soon but definitely you know that the first of the the amazing ice lenders and has to be on anyone's list one of the other contests so I should mention in 1987 there was a contest called pure strength and it had John Paul Sigma's and Jeff capes and Bill Kazmaier and John Paul dominated it there was I can't even remember how many events in total but there was it was about 12 events a lot of events and he just absolutely dominated the show and proved it that year he was definitely the best in the world number seven on my list Eddie Hall the Beast Eddie's rise into a kind of strongman stardom has been incredible life I've known Eddie since he was an arrogant little pup competing in Midland Strongest Man he had a great physique he was you know you could tell he was strong determined he was an angry little thing that I don't think the competition winner is well which is kind of going back you know many many years you could see there was something about him but he just kind of needed a bit of fine-tuning at the time and his progress has been absolutely phenomenal you know whatever you think about Eddie his determination his work ethic and you know his will to be the best there is it's just second to none you know 2012 he dead lifted 400 kilos of Britain Strongest Man and then just four years later he pulled that incredible 500 kilos to do that is just you know not it's just unheard of to go to improving it that much in an event his static strength is just ridiculous from leg power shoulder power bench pressing overhead pressing deadlifts squats he's just statically strong at everything and if we were talking purely just the strongest men on the planet and he's always gonna be up there with the static strength he has the reason he's not any higher on my list is because I'm talking about the greatest strength athletes of all time the greatest world Strongest Man competitors of all time and as it stands he's on one world Strongest Man title he did what he wanted to do he won the title I mean he's pretty much got out his folks and one of the things and you have to respect the determination he had to get there a lot of people doubted him and he proved everyone wrong myself included you know I used to see Eddie as a big strong guy but he wasn't that good at was you know the athletic events but he went away and worked hard at it and proved everyone wrong and proved with hard work what you what what's capable I've never seen anyone kind of go to the levels but he'll go to to be the best and you know that's got to be commended for anyone it's 500 killer deadlift you know 500 kilos is just still when you say it it's just ridiculous he took the world record from 160 because 160 162 kilos under 63 around around 160 mark to 500 kilos that's crazy yeah and you know to then go on and win World's Strongest Man what career but I can't put him any higher than some of the next guys because of the titles and World Records are they because but he's done everything he wanted to do and he's always going to be a big name in the sport so Eddie's rival I've got his number six he's on half-thought Julius built and the next of the Icelanders and have four just like Eddie is an incredibly determined man how far our vote is one of the most talented guys you will ever meet the genetic freaks he's just got a huge frame he puts on muscle very easily he's athletic he's statically strong and he's massively massively driven you know despite being kind of a big star now in Game of Thrones playing the mountain he's still determined to win more titles he's won every major contest there is to win you know a number of those multiple times and he's still young and still keen to keep winning which is incredible you know a lot of guys once they win something their motivation goes Hathor if I'm writing this blog core or kind of talking about my top 10 in 10 years time he could well be at number one he has a potential to be the greatest of all time right now he hasn't won enough titles to be any higher than that but you know like I said he's still only halfway through his career and if we're doing this this in a few years time I'm sure he's gonna be much higher he doesn't look like you know letting up he's he has no weaknesses any more astatically he's dead lifting probably he's probably capable of about 480 on a deadlift he can squat world-record weight she presses record numbers he moves really well he throws up the stones around like they're toys he just doesn't have a weakness anymore and you know he's always a hard man to beat and to be honest 2018 he's been almost as well he's been unbeatable I think he's won every single contest he's done and he's just looked dominant doing it next up we have another Icelander number five for me he's Magnus ver Magnusson Magnus was never yet he looked him and you never thought that guy's the strongest man on the planet but he just knew every single trick in the book he had incredible like dynamic ability his speed his kind of you know his strength was good enough he can't seize the strongest but he was good enough he was up there and what was amazing about Magnus he'd find a way of doing things you know you'd look at him anything he's not probably the best bill guy for that but he think about every event and he'd find a way that worked for him and he win events he just wouldn't expect him to win I've seen him win squat events of world Strongest Man you know he when truck pulls he was just the complete package and dominated the sport in the early 90s early to mid nineties he was just you know he wanted four titles and Magnus is also the only guy that has come into world Strongest Man as the reserve and won the show first time which you know what the hell is that all about it's just unheard of and you know he managed to do it and he just shows like for such a small island how good iceland are to have three guys in my top ten list that is just insane how strong the guys up there are but Magnus has to be on anyone's this four times winner of world Strongest Man for me entertaining to watch back in the day still hugely respected in the sport now he's the head referee of world Strongest Man now and I think myself and along with all the athletes regard him as the top referee he strict but he's strict across the board and fair and you know it's great to see him still involved in the sport he was definitely one of my favorites growing up number four the one and only Bill Kazmaier bill was just a beast toward you know he just looked powerful he had that crazy intense look in his eyes he used to scare people out of one-on-one events I've seen videos of cats wrestling doing they did sumo wrestling back in the day in some of the events and you see guys almost look like they're just gonna run out of the ring because they're that scared of going up against him casas static strength was second to none he he's one of the few guys from the past that statically is still strong enough now to compete against the best best guys in the world you know an amazing squatter amazing benchpress so amazing overhead deadlift is static strength you know other than maybe Eddie Hall no one's really kind of surpassed by much it I guess Eddie and there's a drone in terms of strongman but not by much you know but bill is still if you look at his numbers that he lifted he would still be one of the absolute strongest men on the planet right now and bill was doing that in a time where he was that was strong enough that's what we have to remember is he you know how strong could bill have been we don't know because he wasn't pushed to those kind of limits he was the strongest guy that by a mile back then anyway so he didn't need to get any stronger but I know from conversations I've had with him and I know bill just the way sports work if you had people pushing him I think he could have been a hell of a lot stronger as well and with three World's Strongest Man titles and then unfortunately being banned from world Strongest Man for a number of years so we missed out on maybe seeing him win maybe three or four more you know he could have he could have had the all-time record unfortunately we'll never know but in his problem when when he was competing no one was getting close and I honestly think he would have won a number more titles if he had the chance luckily he's back involved now you know it's great seeing Kaz do commentary in helping our events and refereeing events you know he's one of the best characters from from strongman and you know everyone just loves to listen to a cast story these days they're always entertaining and you know in his prime as an athlete he was just incredible so number three on the list we're into top three now is getting exciting the Dominator mariusz pudzianowski number three for me he has the most titles at five at the moment no one's got more world Strongest Man witness than Marius and as I said earlier a couple of those titles have been one in weaker generations if you like 2002 2003 Maris was unbelievable and everyone was competing against each other but unfortunately we had that split in 2004 after to the 2004 show and a lot of the top guys ended up going to the if sort of contests so I believe he had a few easier wins I'm not so you know you can only be who's there in front of you but they certainly were easier shows and the if shows at the time but but that aside marriage was an incredible incredible athlete that took us brought to another level his physique alone was you know people used to look at him he looked like a bodybuilder was in such great shape his endurance his speed his determination his abilities like to do things for repetitions was just unbelievable statically maybe not as strong as a lot of other guys but he was still very very strong you know his numbers in the gym were good and his is just determination on any kind of event and medleys anything that you involve carrying things for distance those type of things he was just unbeatable uh you know and he put a long string of victories together in competitions including world Strongest Man but other shows you know he was a 16 time Super Series winner seven times winner of Poland's Strongest Man 6 times Europe Strongest Man winner won multiple other shows you know broke records he just in the early noughties heated with sport to another level and just dominated for a number of years like I said though the only reason I don't have him higher on the list is because I don't feel some of his walls from his mom wins were as impressive as summers the next few guys wins in in other shows but marriage is gonna be on anyone's list and as a five times winner he has to be he was he was just kind of brought something completely different to it he's evolved the sport he's made people work harder and he dominated for a number of years and his victory in 2003 was probably the most dominant victory I've ever seen anyone have well strongest man contest he just dominated the show start to finish and was just on another level number to come in two guys that are still competing now one of the greatest strongmen of all time Brian Shaw no matter what you say about Brian he he is one of the greatest of all time first these are four times winner of world Strongest Man three-time winner of the Arnold Classic and probably one of the smartest and most fashion or strongmen on the planet he thinks about everything from training he kind of looks at like he's so methodical about everything he's kind of looking at the absolute best way that works for him to do things you know he flies his his food halfway across the world so he's not eating food from other countries got his food and his meals all prepared for him he'll he'll buy you know new mattresses of his staying at a hotel if he's not up to the mattress he's just so professional he wants to be as prepared as well prepared as possible when he comes into a show and he just literally there's no like stone left unturned with him he thinks about everything he has incredible static strength he's one of the best dead lifters in the world a good presser but where he just excels is just the strongman events where he just makes awkward heavy objects look like toys you know he lifts stones up so easily throws objects so high so powerful and he's so consistent across the board you could be put contest and you know Brian is going to be top three on pretty much every event so if you want to beat him you are gonna have to come in as something special because he's consistently going to be placing high and winning events he really is just an all-around brilliant brilliant strong man and you know he's really dominated in probably the toughest area from whenever you know he's he's competed against the likes of drin us the likes of Thor the likes of any mariusz pudzianowski derek Poundstone some of the greatest strong and we've had of all time and brian has beaten the more number of times he just truly is one of the greatest of all time and he's still competing it's still hungry to win so you know who knows how many times you can end up with but I think he wants to go down as one of the greatest of all time at all the greatest of all time and I know deep down he wants six quarts from this man tiles and you know there's no reason why he can't do it it's it's tough now and as you get older it's harder and harder but what he's done how motivated still is how hard work and he still is he's certainly capable of it right number one the greatest world Strongest Man competitor of all time has to be the Drona so viscous and you know you can say I'm being biased because I'm friends with his dress but I'm friends with a number of guys on these lists and for me as Ernest has to be number one three reasons why firstly the amount of titles he's won he's won for world's longest man titles to its of world titles he's won eight Arnold Classic titles he's won Europe's number of times the turanians Strongest Man a number times and countless other titles in between he's literally won everything there is to win he's broken countless world records way more records than anyone else he's taken the log record from 2005 he did the thirty was the first guy to do two hundred kilos on a log and since then he's owned the log World Records he's taking up to two hundred and twenty eight kilos and no one's been able to take it off him he's just kind of constantly just chipped away at the record and broken it at will up until you know the last even up until 2016 like even last year 2017 he's winning international shows his careers have gone over twenty years winning huge shows he's kind of competed across the board from like the Magnus ver Magnusson days up until till now with what the likes of Thor and Eddie and Bryant he's absolutely you can have he can't be lower than that one on anyone's list he's just one way to many things and in in the two early two-thousands too late she doesn't he was almost unbeatable he just his history a string of victory I think he had strung six victories and the Arnold's together and that's kind of classed as that the real heaviest show in the world and that is prime he just had this belief in himself that he was unbeatable and it would look like he might not win a contest it we come down to an event but might notoriously not be his best event he might not always do that well on but when it mattered he dig deep and pulled out the bag and come out with a victory I think you know one of his first if sir wins he was going into the contest and he was actually struggling and he needed to break the world record on the atlas stones and he went and did that he broke the world record one of the stones and ended up winning the title and and no one saw that coming you know he won the Arnold's again a few years back where everyone was saying old renesis finished his back's done and you know he's got hamstring injuries shoulder injuries even with a bad start and the deadlift he kind of was placing low and he still went on to win the contest so you can never count this man out I'll never count him out he's a great strong man he's humble I mean it I say it great he's the greatest strongman of all time in my opinion and has to be number one on the list without question and he you know looking up it's a strong list there's some brilliant guys on there I've got a few honorable mentions you know guys like you class Allah he was two times world Strongest Man it's one of the smaller guys that kind of competed that strong man but unbelievably good OD Wilson another guy that maybe a lot of guys don't know I I will always say in 1990 he should have been the world Strongest Man an amazing power lifter and definitely should have been were strongest man in 1990 Mike Jenkins another incredible athlete you know terrible tragic story about Mike passed away a few years back but but Mike was just one of them he came from no way he won the Arnold Classic qualifier went on to Judy Arnold came second in his first year at the Arnold's and then went on to win in 2012 he was winning well Strongest Man in 2011 unfortunately picked up an injury but the guy was incredible just getting better and better each year and you know he's just hugely missed in the sport spent Karlsson one of the most charismatic guys in the sport winner in 2001 and derek Poundstone parents was was unbelievable he had a great career should have one more strongest man in 2008 he was so close just needed to push the out the stone up and he would have had it but just missed out to Marius but he won the Arnold's he won't autism us and was just another guy were just sheer determination hard work you know his work ethic was second to none and definitely a contender for anyone's top-10 list okay guys that's my top ten list I really hope you enjoyed it comment down below and let me
