this video was originally posted last year i have since updated it with new information on some of the rides a further explanation is in the description [Applause] [Music] not all closed roller coasters are demolished for a variety of reasons some roller coasters are abandoned by their owners and left to rot on the property so in my habit of being a listaholic let's take a look at the top 10 fascinating abandoned roller coasters as voted on by the fans just a quick note though i won't be talking about six flags new orleans since i've already talked about its abandoned roller coasters you can find a link to that video in the description number 10 vertigorama at argentina's parque de la ciudad abandoned since 1983 though the park itself is still in operation its roller coasters are abandoned on the property the most famous of these attractions is a racing coaster named vertigo rama this coaster never got a chance to open to the public in the late 1970s the argentinian government was interested in building a massive new theme park to entertain the masses money was no object so in addition to several flat rides officials invested in a state-of-the-art racing coaster by swiss manufacturer intamin while the park opened in 1982 the roller coaster wasn't constructed until 1983. unfortunately the public never got to see this attraction open due to the necessary electrical parts never arriving it's unknown why the parts never showed up and the ride's complete history is still a mystery to many over the years a long recession period would reduce the park's operating rides and nowadays it's more of a leisure park than an amusement park number nine wild mouse at oklahoma's eagle park abandoned since 1986 the wild mouse is a widely popular roller coaster showing up at theme parks all over the world back in the 1950s american manufacturer b.a chef and associates started this huge craze by inventing the coaster first known to open at wisconsin's dandelion park this ride would make its way across the globe showing up at several amusement parks one of these parks was a little-known place in cache oklahoma called eagle park this park was the brainchild of a man named herbert wozner jr wozner first directed the park in 1957 as a replacement for another defunct park called craterville a few years after its opening park officials wanted to install a ba shift wild mouse as the star attraction however much like vertigo rama it is said to have never opened to the public according to property owner and wozner's nephew wayne gibson a tragic accident prevented the coaster from opening while finalizing this coaster's construction gibson's father fell off the ride's scaffolding and would later die of his injuries since then the coaster has sat unused on the property and is the only ba shift wild mouse still standing to this day the story of eagle park is far too big for a top 10 video but perhaps i'll cover it more thoroughly in the future number eight toboggan at indiana's bendix woods county park abandoned since 1970. located in northern indiana bendix woods is a recreational park with a pretty big reputation not only does it house a popular maple syrup festival but it's also home to the world's largest living advertisement a row of trees spells studebaker a now defunct automobile company and can easily be seen from a satellite view what you may not know about this park is that it's also home to an abandoned roller coaster within the trees lies the rusty brown track of an in-house made coaster named toboggan this coaster never opened to the public either during a test in 1970 two employees were said to have fallen off the ride and right then and there it was declared to be too unsafe to open over the years the track has sat in the woods being overtaken by the vegetation recently some of the ride's track was taken down to make room for more maple syrup lines but the majority of the ride is still in place keep your eyes peeled for that old track number seven over water roller coaster at china's honey lake entertainment city abandoned since 2007. this is one of the only roller coasters on earth built entirely over water built by an unknown chinese manufacturer this coaster features a long sprawling layout that can easily be spotted from a bird's eye view it features several airtime hills and a large double helix one thing to note though was the lack of easy evacuation pathways meaning that passengers would likely have to walk up and down the ride's course in case of a ride stoppage it's unknown if this was a contributing factor to its closure but a more likely factor was the decline of honey lake itself shortly after its opening in 2000 the entire park would be split in two due to a major highway being constructed over the years the park would become more and more dilapidated with the over roller coaster closing sometime around 2007 and the rest of the attractions badly aging the hassle of splitting the park in two as well as the increase in competition from happy valley shenzhen just 15 minutes away led to the closure of the park in 2011. to this day the coaster still sits on the water serving as an eerie oddity for the locals to take pictures of number six spree blitz at germany's spree park abandoned since despite its prominence in a popular click bait thumbnail rest assured there are no killer clowns to be found here still though the history of spree blitz is truly fascinating first constructed in 1969 this park was a product of east germany's communist government shortly after the berlin wall fell the park was overtaken by a man named norbert witt whit would install several new attractions many of which came from france's defunct mirapolis amusement park one of the more notable attractions purchased was a powered roller coaster by german manufacturer mock rides for those of you who don't know a powered roller coaster uses a specifically designed track to power a motor inside the ride vehicle rather than using gravity alone the powered coaster mainly uses its motor to traverse the course after being moved from france the coaster would be renamed spree blitz the most defining feature of this ride was its colorful tunnel entrance which resembled some sort of blue feline unfortunately it would end up operating for a little less than a decade wit's criminal activities as well as declining attendance would cause the park to officially shut down in 2002 while the majority of its roller coasters were relocated to other parks spree blitz still sits on the property to this day it has since been considered one of the most fascinating and photogenic abandoned locations in all of germany with spree blitz's tunnel receiving plenty of photographic attention while german officials have started cracking down on unauthorized entries guided tours of the park are still available number 5 sandblaster at florida's boardwalk amusements abandoned since 2018. this coaster has only been abandoned for about a year but its story alone makes it well worth being on this list first operating at illinois's defunct adventureland park this ride has been relocated a whopping five times in its lifetime it has been to legend city in phoenix arizona wild westworld in custer south dakota del grosso's amusement park in tipton pennsylvania blue diamond park in newcastle delaware and finally boardwalk amusements in daytona beach florida in 2013 the roller coaster was added as part of an initiative to increase tourism to daytona beach however just four years later declining nascar viewership led to less people being interested in the area numerous hotels were delayed or canceled and the boardwalk's operations became questionable in 2017 the ride was shut down after a failed inspection according to orlando weekly inspectors found excessive rust damaged bolts cracked bracings and an unidentified electrical problem but regardless the rides on the boardwalk would open later that summer after a deal was reached between the ride's owners and a new operator the ride was then given a few unspecified updates but just months after this deal was reached disaster struck on june 2018 six people were injured when a ride vehicle suddenly derailed it was literally dangling from the track and the incident was all over the news despite the coaster passing an inspection that day video evidence shows maintenance workers welding as guests were riding it the shadiness of this incident caused the entire amusement park to be shut down and the coaster is still there unused since that fateful day it's unlikely this ride will ever reopen but it's unknown when or if it will be torn down well it's time for an update on this one because shortly after posting this video last year this coaster was actually torn down and no remnants of it remain still though it's a fascinating story and i decided to leave it in here number four orphan rocker at australia's scenic world abandoned since 1988. once upon a time a man named phil hammond tried to build a revolutionary roller coaster first conceived in the 1980s this was the first roller coaster to be completely designed and manufactured in australia its name orphan rocker comes from the nearby orphan rock a famous national landmark adjacent to scenic world the rocker part of its name also refers to the rocking ride vehicles each of the cars featured seats that rocked side to side but unlike a suspended coaster the track would be located below the trains the modern day equivalent being disney's seven dwarfs mine train with a long winding course over a breathtaking terrain orphan rocker was marketed as the scariest coaster on earth and just looking at some of the ride's transitions make it easy to see why unfortunately despite his noble intentions phil hammond's lack of experience with ride design hampered the coaster's success despite it being ridden multiple times by scenic world employees it was allegedly considered to be too dangerous to open to the public one famous story centers around a failed test involving sandbag dummies flying out of the ride vehicles with some never being found park officials deny this story though saying the ride just didn't fit the direction of where they wanted to take the park officials say they wanted scenic world to remain more of a scenic park than an amusement park still though they would allegedly spend decades trying to get the coaster open but to this day the track continues to decay the lucky few people who got to ride this coaster can certainly claim the ultimate bragging rights number 3 cyclone at pennsylvania's williams grove amusement park abandoned since 2005. this is perhaps the most sorely missed roller coaster among pennsylvania enthusiasts first opening in 1933 is the zipper this low to the ground coaster had somewhat of a backyard feel to it being surrounded by trees throughout the layout in 1972 the park acquired new trains from the defunct cyclone roller coaster at new jersey's palisades park since these trains had cyclone written on them the park simply renamed the coaster as such over the years this small coaster would go through quite a lot in 1972 it suffered serious damage from hurricane agnes in 1995 it suffered damage from a fire and just months later a buildup of snow would cause the track to collapse from the weight there are even stories of it taking damage from a truck running into it nevertheless the coaster would persevere and would continue to run all the way until 2005 that year the park's owners decided to focus all of their attention on running the nearby williams grove speedway and would officially close the amusement park their attempts to sell the park came up empty-handed and while they did auction off a few attractions the roller coaster has been standing but not operating for almost 15 years though the track is still in the property the trains have since returned to their original location in fort lee new jersey and officials plan to put them in a museum sometime in the future number two cliffhanger at north carolina's ghost town village abandoned since 2010. this is by far the most visually stunning abandoned coaster in the united states then known as ghost town in the sky this was once a thriving local theme park in western north carolina the only way to get to this park was via chairlift or a special funicular railway themed to the old west the park featured shows character actors and even a few rides in the late 1980s park officials took note of the increase of thrilling steel coasters in the amusement industry in order to draw on the thrill seekers they decided it was time to add one of these new fangled creations to make the attraction a reality the park hired american manufacturer hopkins while mainly known for their flume rides hopkins had also manufactured a few roller coasters the coaster then known as the red devil was built on the slope of the mountain giving passengers stunning views of the nearby smoky mountain range it was like something straight out of a dream but that didn't stop the ride from being a maintenance nightmare right from the start in fact many of the parks rides were poorly maintained and would regularly break down this was reportedly due to ghost town in the sky's ongoing financial issues the deteriorating condition of the park would cause potential visitors to stay away and ghost town in the sky would close in 2002. four years later the park was sold to a new owner but it wouldn't be until 2009 the red devil was renovated it received a six million dollar renovation and would be renamed cliffhanger it would also receive a new yellow color scheme and a new set of trains the ride would reopen in june 2009 just two days after its reopening though state inspectors found a crack in one of the trains frames the ride would later reopen in october but even more mechanical issues would cause it to close again just days later though officials planned to open the coaster again in 2010 a flaw in the trains wheels kept it from reopening park officials planned to purchase a new train but considering the park's ongoing financial problems they clearly wouldn't be able to do so the coaster would sit unmaintained on the property and has remained there ever since the park's final closure in 2016 it's unlikely this coaster will ever operate again but at least it provided coaster historians with a fascinating story to research number one nightmare at england's camelot theme park abandoned since 2012. no this wasn't themed after the british game show of the same name but it still has a strong history in the late 80s german manufacturers here had been manufacturing coasters designed by the famous anton schwarzkopf after schwarzkopf's own company went bankrupt zira had agreed to bring some of his designs to fruition these included the famous olympia looping and a tamer coaster named bavarian mountain railroad first built at kobe japan's now defunct portopia this coaster was originally built inside a large mountainous structure after the park's closure in 2005 bmr was dismantled and sent all the way to england for the 2007 season it would be installed at lancashire's camelot theme park and the reconstruction would end up costing around 3 million british pounds as for the ride itself the layout would start with a spiraled chain lift to the top before dropping riders straight into an overbanked turn though it didn't feature any inversions this coaster boasted a fast pace and packed in plenty of thrilling bank turns it also had a near vertical bending element nicknamed the psycho drop now that's one crazy name this element was said to be the most intense part of the ride as passengers experienced the g-force of five times the force of gravity this gave it more g's than any british coaster at the time despite getting a thumbs up from enthusiasts and being generally acclaimed for its intensity the coaster did little to help camelot's declining attendance after years of low visitor numbers camelot officials made the decision to shut the park down however in an alleged effort to save money on a demolition crew nightmare was left standing but not operating it is now heavily protected by a full-time security team to keep out trespassers but this hasn't stopped hundreds of teenagers from climbing this coaster over the years seriously though if you're thinking of climbing it please don't it's an abandoned steel structure that isn't meant to be used as a jungle gym but if you just fancy a look at the old attraction you're more than welcome to do so from the road alright so i have another update unfortunately this coaster was torn down recently to make room for housing the coaster was scrapped and it's always unfortunate to see a classic schwarzkopf bite the dust however a near-exact clone of this ride still exists at sweden's gronolund this coaster named jetline is said to be just as good or even better than nightmare was so i recommend checking it out when you can before we wrap things up i just want to give a special shout out to my new patreon supporter verbal shout out start at the gold tier so if you don't hear your name it will be listed at the end of the video here is a special shout out to
