[Music] if you don't know who tony stewart is or you haven't already heard of tony stewart believe me before this year is over you will definitely know it appears as if tony stewart indeed stuart wins the championship tony stewart is the 2005 nascar nexto cup series champion hey but at the end of the day the big trophy will go to tony stewart the rushville rocket from indiana is the 2002 nascar winston cup champion and he's going to become a three-time nascar script [Music] from columbus indiana born march 20th 1971 anthony wayne stewart would be brought into this world he would win championships and go-karts midgets and even usak's triple crown before winning an indycar title in 1997. he's a three-time cup series champion in 2002 2005 and 2011. he has 49 wins 308 top 10's and 15 poles a well-deserved first ballot hall of famer before tony arrived the role of the badass was held by guys like yarbrough pearson arnhart wallace with his no thanksgiving attitude tony would soon enshrine himself on this list rather quickly tony's post race interviews are best described as pr nightmares it's what happened at the end of the race so tony good your tire and rubber company uh the kid's an idiot he wins one bush race and he's a cup driver now it doesn't matter whether we tell you we like our dislike never did he keep his thoughts inside and he always spoke from the heart i'm gonna bust these this one in comparison to the last one this one's for every one of those fans in the stands that pull for me every week and take all the [ __ ] from everybody else he better be worried that's all i gotta say he ain't gonna have an easy three weeks uh yeah same thing i told you earlier you can come visit my trophy in the room at vegas when you get out there there's been no wreck i mean is that amazing have you ever seen anything like that david only you'd think about stuff like that i don't i don't know about what you think of during the race but i try to figure out how to win the race and make my car go faster i don't sit there and think of that petty crap that you think of you know just uh sorry we couldn't crash more cars today we didn't fill the for today for uh talladega and nassau if we haven't crashed at least fifty percent of the field by the end of the race we need to extend the race till we at least crash 50 percent of the cars because it's it's not fair to these fans for them to not see any more wrecks than that and work for cars we still had over half the cars running and it's uh it shouldn't be that well i think we ought to just tape them off solid and run them until they blow up anyway i think it'd make it a lot more exciting for the fans i mean they deserve to see us run 500 miles and like i said if we don't crash half of the field by the end of the race they really need to extend it because i mean that's what that's what the fans want they want to see that excitement and i feel i feel bad that as drivers we couldn't do a better job of crashing enough cars for them with your tongue i'm upset i'm upset that we didn't crash more cars i mean i feel like i feel like that's what that's what we need you know that's what we're here for i mean i feel bad if i don't spend at least 150 000 and tour of race cars going back to the shop so we definitely got to do a better job i had a blast i just it would have been a lot more fun if i could have got caught up in one more record i could have done that it would have been perfect i mean i think we could make it a figure eight and be perfect it would absolutely be perfect here it'd be better than what we got that's that's going to be my boot for this week is that we can make it a figure eight band or we can go stop at the halfway make a break and turn around go backwards and then pretend to go we'll split the field and have it happen and go the regular direction happened from the backwards we weren't that great of a race car even but uh we were definitely faster than matt after that restart checked up twice to not run over him and i learned my lesson there i'm gonna run over him every chance i got from out of the [Music] [Music] believe it or not tony was more known for his skills behind the wheel rather than behind the microphone his sheer raw talent behind the wheel was one in a million and closely resembled his boyhood hero aj foyt unlike many drivers before him tony went out on top he was still competitive and was still winning races not many guys can say that his on-track accolades are nothing short of legendary from his goat-like super speedway skills to his all-world road course skills tony always got the job done dale jarrett trying to hold off tony stewart stewart running sixth right where he finished the indy 500 came here and had to start in the back for missing the drivers meeting and he you gotta admit guys now that's that's that's just impressive stuff i know how hard one of these things is to drive i have no idea how hard an indy car is to drive but i gotta believe they're mentally fatiguing if not anything else and here he is still in the hunt here and if he runs the whole 200 laps it's gonna cost him [Music] twenty thousand dollars the big memorial day road race up in lime rock connecticut tomorrow we probably get tony a ride up there yeah i'm sure he could fly out there tonight be ready to go in the morning and three-hour race no problem mark martin started 10th and tony stewart started in the back side the pass for third clear made it look pretty easy that car is really really good right now and tommy is just doing an i can't tell you what how impressed i am with the job he's doing his last three wins to cup races second in talladega fourth in california and the winner richmond [Applause] the fans cheering [Applause] [Music] through turn four the last trip down the front stretch tony stewart a native hoosier his dream comes true tony stewart wins the old day 400 at the brickyard let the party begin [Music] folks there's one happy race car driver [Music] i wish i could put it in words it's uh today's been my entire life so i feel like crap right now in five minutes i'm gonna feel really good [Applause] all right tony congratulations you've won at the indianapolis motor speedway thanks buddy i appreciate it tony stewart laying on the front stretch wall right over the yard of bricks celebrating his dream his win here at india two in nascar's heavyweights going toe to toe head to head the final laps and you want it in the championship what's the emotion right now oh god thank the lord for this one buddy i'm uh man i'm telling you it's been a tough tough summer and a tough ball for us and you got to believe in something and the man upstairs and he held this rain off just long enough to get us to get this job done so uh this is for sprinting all these fans up here that stuck it out all weekend here in homestead oh my god i don't care how long it rains i'm gonna be up all night this is uh oh my god are you kidding me this team there's one thing i learned when gene haas and joe custer gave us this opportunity and our good buddy rick hendrick and i couldn't do it without you bud and everybody at hendrick engines and chassis uh there's no quit here and darren grab that man up there and everybody on this team has just dug deep and never given up and uh this is a this is an awesome night eddie jarvis prep food everybody at stuart haas racing i've got the best team in the business and uh it's just awesome i i'm so grateful to be able to do this for gene haas because this man's invested a lot in this sport and for him to have the the faith in me to do this just uh you know it takes a lot to do what he's done and i'm glad i can get this done for him tony's right where he needs to be man see if he can make a gain it's all about getting off of this corner he gets in there good oh he missed it a little bit we're about two be ready for the dive oh i don't think he meant for that to happen but then he made contact with tony i think tony was also pretty loose getting in there well that was what happened to tony lap before you know when he got loose into seven and that allowed hamlin to close up hey this thing's not over guys watch what happens into turn 11 in this heavy braking zone two more corners hamlin trying to pull away close enough i think tony used up his stuff i mean we knew he was having you know here we go stewart inside he is there he gets handling they hit and stewart comes off turn 11. he's coming to the flag stewart how did that happen are you kidding me oh my goodness all right man how does that feel buddy still a champion buddy [Music] oh man they're all good it doesn't matter where you get them but [Music] we we were we could run close to those guys all day we just got stuck back in traffic so uh just it's pretty ironic the last one we got was in a code three car and i'm proud to do it again but proud of mobile one and bass pro and everybody they just uh just an awesome job you look at your legendary career your eighth road course win your final year what does it mean to chalk up another one on your racing resume especially at a place you're going to for your last time that means a bunch so it's um it's special trust me congratulations tony winning a race the excitement lasts for about a week winning a championship it lasts for a year but being inducted into the nascar hall of fame lasts for a lifetime congratulations [Music] i want you guys to know i had a really kick-ass speech prepared till this morning and then final practice the speech got wrecked and mike arnie and i had to bring up a backup speech so we're going to give it the best shot we got here but due to technical difficulties and trademark infringement we had park the first car but in the eight months since then being nominated to this year's class have come to appreciate what an honor it truly is and being one of only 55 people inducted into the nascar hall of fame and considering that nascar's been around for more than 70 years i think it's pretty much nuts for me to be here it's truly an elite group and it's incredibly humbling to be a part of it i'm not one to get overly sentimental i leave that for jeff gordon but i know it lead a blessed life becoming a member of the nascar hall of fame is proof of that thank you for being here tonight and sharing this moment and thanks to everyone from those days in club at the columbus fairgrounds to the tracks where we raced in new sac to indycar and nascar and now back to this the grassroots of sprint car racing for me thank you for being a fan and a fan of motorsports it's been a hell of a ride but all the pole positions lapse lead wins championships trophies awards and prestige they don't matter at the end as much as the relationships i've made with everyone along the way and that's what i value the most thank you guys good night [Music] [Applause] [Music] where there's smoke there's fire and where there's a race car tony is probably the best driver oh man i tell you what i've never felt like a monkey on a football so long in my life he's a championship winning cup series owner a three-time champion is a driver and one of just a handful of hall of fame inductees tony made the sport better and he still is today he brought the fire from the 80s straight to the 2000s whether he was in the right or in the wrong he always kept other guys in check [Music] he may not be very high on the list of greatest nascar drivers ever but with tony that was never the argument nobody ever thought he was the best nascar driver of his generation the real discussion was is he simply the best race car driver ever [Music] thanks for watching be sure to subscribe like and comment below [Music] you
