Tips on Buying a Shipping Container

[Music] right in this video I want to talk about buying the shipping container and it's a topic that I really wanted to talk about in my first video and but just had so much footage of them delivering this thing that I decided to make it more about the foundations and actual physical delivery of it so if you haven't seen that video it'll be in the comment section below so have a look at that the comments that I've been having have been asking me kind of where I got it how I got it here and how much it cost which one I chose and so in this video I'll just address kind of the process that I went through as well as show you my shipping container and a few things that make it the B grade that it is it so the first thing I have to talk about is actually finding the right place to buy the shipping container I looked everywhere from trade me you know online few private sellers and in the end just decided to go with a dedicated shipping containers salesman so at sea containers and they were fantastic because not only were they they give us a great price on the shipping container but they took care of all the delivery had quite a reasonable price and the the delivery itself was probably the biggest challenge and when we first started looking at and getting the shipping container here it everybody was quoting us because they would do you do the shipping containers and then you had to find another company to get it they're here for you and most kind of transport companies don't specialize in just moving shipping containers right so anybody who was willing to move one for me was charging me probably two to three thousand dollars just to bring it here which is about three hundred KS from wherever it would be and so in the end working with see they were great because they have obviously got the right truck it's a swingarm truck which you can see in that first video and they charged us around a thousand dollars and including taxes and all that to deliver it here from Tauranga which is about three and a half hours away also when the guy was here he was absolutely fantastic and I personally wouldn't have even driven my truck on if I had to drag on where I've tried to get him to place it and he was able to lift it with one of the things and actually get it near as perfect to where wanted it to be there dad gastly kudos to him so when you're looking at your shipping containers you'll notice that there's different grades of them my shipping container is a 40-foot B grade container and that means that it's it's water and weather tight and has a few bumps and bruises because it's been around the world a few times and the the price difference is that we got say with your 20-foot container it was a mere 20 the 20-foot container in an A grade and a grade is pretty much perfect it's like a brand new looking thing there was four thousand dollars for the a grade and it was two thousand four hundred for the B and in the C grade ones which were barely barely water Titan and been bruised and bumped and rust everywhere those were those were around for around fifteen hundred bucks and the 40-foot containers they're a grade one of those so absolutely mint and they were on seven and the B grade which is my work was close to three after you know it was about three grand after tax and all that and the C grades one of these they were just around two and but the reason we went for the the B grade one yes you're going to have a few bumps and bruises but I think it's quite great that this thing's been around the world and it's still completely completely watertight and well yeah completely watertight there's a bit of surface rust but it's made from court in the surface of the steel actually makes a protective barrier and we've painted the whole thing in an enamel rust guide coat so we're not too worried about the surface rust that was on anyway us other sizing you know we were toying up between either getting to 20 foot or 140 foot in the end the 40 foot was just value for money wise completely worth it because not only the your 20 foot was about 2,500 2,400 and the the 40 foot was 3 grand so it's almost like a no brainer because you've got to pay for twice the and twice the delivery fee with the 20 foot whereas with this 40-foot container they all up you're paying four grand and you got you got all that space so what I'm going to do now is I'm going to show you around kind of my container in a few little things the surface rust and the dents and and all that little stuff yeah you can kind of see a few of the dents that are in the container come all the way to this side you'll see this quite a bit so that definitely not straight and there's quite a few dents all the way along it you know didn't really bother me too much though any spots that it actually really affects you is where you looking to put in the door so that just wasn't square when we were cutting it or measuring it out and also I think this is a little bit of rust underneath and you can't clean that up but what we did with this enamel paint is you just paint up everything just hides the whole lot this bits about the worst of the surface rest it's mainly around those corners and some of the hinges the hinges have got a little bit on them but but that's about it inside the the floor has got a few scratches on it but and the walls are considerably marked and bumped and scratched as you can see and for like that's one coat of paint and it's covered everything I'm not worried in the least in here it's going to clean up really nicely
