hey everybody tomorrow the Wizards re remake SL remaster comes out and I thought we'd go ahead and just go over a few basic uh sort of beginner tips for uh getting started here if you're not familiar with the game at all so uh first thing you want to consider is that the the uh the characters in your front line are the only ones who are going to be able to actually attack the enemies with physical attacks and uh this is just my sort of example party here that I've leveled up a fair bit but uh yeah so um to that end when you when you're making your characters the race um does sort of matter um as far as your starting stats go and some of your uh resists I believe although the game doesn't do a very good job of showing you that but yeah if we just go ahead and make a character here so the first thing you'll notice is like you're going to have 12 attribute points 10 attribute points 9 8 10 so it's it's always the same per race but if you go in to your old school options here and change your starting attribute points to random rule um this is what it was in the original Wizardry game you'll uh find that a lot of the time you can make more powerful characters like look at that 20 attribute points that's a pretty rare role there's kind of like a chance for an average roll and then like a high roll um you can get up to 29 Points if you're extremely lucky but uh yeah if I just hit left control here or even just double click on the dice here you'll see we can reroll and a lot of the time we get less than the 12 or the 10 but if you want to make a more powerful starting character you can um kind of cycle through things until you get more points basically which will let you do some interesting stuff uh for example if you make a gnome here uh you can see these are the classes that you can start as theoretically if you roll high enough so if we want to be uh like a fighter you can slap on Four Points of strength and there you go we've unlocked fighter as a possibility for this character uh you do get more stats as you level up but um then there's kind of like some advaned classes like bishop and Samurai they require a little bit more stat investment than these these four here and in particular you can see Samurai requires quite a bit now we don't have enough stat points with this particular role but it is possible to start as a uh as a samurai we one short and um you might be wondering well okay what's the why would we ever want to be a samurai what's the point well so like the fighter uh Mage priest and Thief are all kind of like your core classes uh the bishop and again like I don't think the game ever tells you this but the bishop can cast uh Mage and pre spells they uh they start with Mage spells and then as they get a little bit higher level they start learning preest spells as well uh whereas the samurai is kind of like a hybrid between a fighter and a mage so at uh level I think four they start learning uh Mage spells uh but when you're making your party and considering your your front line here you definitely want to have like a samurai or a fighter uh because they get more attacks as they level up I think around like level five they start getting an extra attack uh whereas none of the other classes here do so that's really important to consider uh there are a couple other classes that you can get that aren't listed here because you can't roll high enough to get them um that's the Lord which is kind of like a mix between a priest and a fighter and then the ninja which is kind of like a a fighter who can do a little bit of thief stuff I guess is the best way to put it all right I do want to just cut this in real quick uh you really want to have a thief in your party because they are the only ones who can reliably disarm chests should they be trapped so if we just inspect this there is a spell that you can use to inspect but that uses valuable Magic points um but he's got a pretty good chance to figure it out so he's pretty sure there's no trap um but if there was none of these other characters are really going to have a very good chance to disarm and chests are going to be your kind of kind of like your main source of for one of your main sources of income so you really want to be able to open them and The Traps can be pretty nasty so yeah definitely highly recommend having a thief even though they are kind of dead weight in combat um yeah being able to open chest is pretty important you can also get items and stuff out of chests from time to time so yeah pretty pretty valuable character to have when you're making your party all right back to the regularly scheduled video I'll let you kind of discover those a little bit on your own but I will say that the thief has to be evil so if we can confirm these attributes here so that the um the ninja rather has to ninja has to be evil and the Lord has to be good so um keep that in mind and the other thing to keep in mind is that you can't mix and match alignments unless you kind of do a little trick which I'll show you in a sec here uh but let's go ahead and we'll just finish making this character and um yeah it doesn't really matter what we do here okay so um just H yeah some thoughts for character creation there uh you can also change classes as you level up and and get more stats so if we inspect uh one of our higher level characters here like nimy she's a uh a good halfling priest right now but uh if we go to edit character instead of inspect and click on her you can change a few things here but one of them is class and you can see the there we go there's our other two classes that we can select potentially um so if I wanted to I could make her go from priest to like being a mage we do that and you can see it resets all of her stats basically down to her racial minimum so uh class changing is generally good but you do need to um be aware of that and also just that it'll age your character and uh basically once characters start getting like really old they have a chance to a higher chance to lose stats when they level up and uh characters can die of old age like if I think it's if your if your Vitality drops to two I think the character just dies so probably not something you're going to have to worry about most of the time but just a something to be aware of uh all right so I think that's all I want to say just about kind of General character creation thoughts um to get started here the other thing is if we enter the maze I'll show you the little trick if you absolutely must have an evil character mixed in with your good characters um or vice versa uh what you can do is uh you come into the Maze and then uh we'll we'll Camp here and we come over here and uh return to town so these guys are going to be hanging out in the Maze this is a game where you can have multiple parties and you may want to uh because if characters die in The Maze you can send in a second party to go recover the bodies and equipment and everything and possibly get people resurrected up at the temple there um I don't have anybody in my party so I can't visit it but if we go to the tavern and I come over here we can add in uh this evil guy that we just made and then I get back into the maze here and so basically we have to travel to the square that our charact we left our characters on and in this case we left them right here on this starting Square so if we go to camp and go to add to party you can see down here in the old the old school UI all the characters that are kind of sitting here but uh yeah now we can um we can add all these people to the uh the party basically if I can here we go and there you go so everybody's in the party now now and uh I don't know if there are any long-term consequences to doing this as far as mixing and matching your evil and good characters but it seems to work just fine in this brief my little test that I've done um and this is something that was in the original game as well I believe which this game is running on top of but yeah nobody's left the party everything seems to be fine so uh yeah just something to to keep in mind now if you try to reform your party like by going to the in you may run into some issues uh or not sorry the the uh by going to the tavern rather may run into some issues here if you try to like add or remove people but otherwise yeah so you can have an evil character with the good characters by doing that so yeah just uh as far as getting started in the Maze here I'm not going to show you too terribly much um let you figure most of this out on your own but just right over here to the right you can find yourself a room and usually this Square here will have an encounter on it also by the way old ax ass did make it into the final release oh we got a little bit of a fight here well this will let me show you something else I guess so aside from the fact that we just got surprised there which is unfortunate uh it's possible to stack Buffs and debuffs in this game so if I just have these guys Parry so this guy's got a bunch of spells if we cast um Darkness on these guys this will give them an AC penalty of uh two and I'll have you parry and then I'll have you come over here and we'll have you cast this blessing and Zeal spell which will give us an AC bonus it says plus two AC penalty so it's kind of like old school D and D where negative AC is better um but yeah so you can see these guys have a plus two AC penalty if we go to Parry again and then we cast another darkness and then we'll have you parry and then we can cast Another Blessing in Zeal you can see our AC improved again and their AC got worse again this is this will be useful for one other sort of spoilery thing that I'll show you I I'll warn you ahead of time um but uh yeah so that's something to keep in mind for harder fights uh the other thing is just that if we um dispel these Undead so priests and Bishops have the ability to dispel Undead uh Bishops are a little bit worse at it and and Lords can also do it but they're even worse at it um she's uh I can't remember I class changer her to a mage I think so she can't do it anymore but she could have but if we just do this real quick there's one uh yeah so when you dispel enemies you don't get any any XP for those enemies so it's a good way to save yourself some trouble but not good for grinding uh okay so that's everything that I want to show you there now is a part where uh if you don't want to be spoiled on any more of the dungeon layout uh this is where we part ways uh so thanks for watching I'll see you next time and uh you know enjoy the game and all that good stuff but uh if you want to find another spot that I guess was popular back in the day for grinding some XP I will show that to you now so if we start at the uh begin of the dungeon here we go straight ahead we'll have to turn right uh down these corridors we'll find a couple other spots we can add to our sort of early game grind route kind of like that first room that I showed you uh but if we go through this door at the end of the hall go up one and then this go this way again uh yeah spoilers for you know you know early game dungeon stuff uh level one stuff anyway we'll keep going forward to the end of this hallway and then if we click on this there's a secret door here then we can go to the end of here turn right and would you look at that it would appear that we've been teleported if we go I believe to this one here yes we'll find our elves a little Crystal that we can click on and uh doing that we'll find Murphy's ghost this is a uh a popular Critter to level up on uh he's not super dangerous in the sense that he doesn't do much damage and uh yes it is possible to get two of them in one fight that's not a guarantee but it can happen uh but he's super duper hard to hit and he Regens when he P per round so what you want to do when you're fighting him is buff yourself and then uh you know if you're like level four or something like that you're not going to have any of these spells down here but you probably have Darkness at least so my recommendation is to debuff him with some of that cuz he seems to land whereas other spells don't a lot of the time and uh you also can't dispel him I don't think if you have a priest uh but we'll do that and then we'll buffer ourselves because uh yeah he he doesn't do any funny business he just attacks for two damage at a time but he's uh he's got a huge AC and he's he's pretty tanky especially with his regen so again my uh recommendation is to to debuff him a bit and then just go to town so we'll see you once I've defeated him and then I'll tell talk to you about how to get out of here once you've uh finished your your grind all righty so I just defeated two Murphy's ghosts and you can see yeah you get an absolute bow lad of XP for a relatively easy fight um probably don't want to come here too low level but it's uh yeah it's not too bad all right so to get out of here just turn around go this way uh don't go that way go go this way through here through here and uh don't worry about your mini map just keep following this path till you get to the darkness and then follow the darkness so you hit the wall one step then you just keep going left until you uh hit the wall again basically you're going to see that so you just go back right to the one uh one step rather and just go south so you hit the wall left and there you go you're out of the darkness and then uh to get out of here I believe you just go straight and then down this hallway and you're back back home safe and sound no sweat so anyway there you go there's a few tips for you to get started with Wizardry here it's a bit of a complex game but uh you you'll get the gist of it I'm sure so uh yeah have fun and I will see you next time
