and now it's time for another diced our review with Tom vassal hey folks today we're taking a look at tiny epic defenders this is the sequel to tiny epic kingdoms in a prequel it's any epic galaxies because hey the words tiny an epic are awesome right I don't know tiny epic kingdoms is a game that I liked I thought it was very interesting but I didn't understand why it needs to be tiny yeah it's a cheaper price point but moving around a little tiny peices but anyhow was a decent game this one's cooperative well yeah I like cooperative maybe this one's going to be super fun let's check it out players are going to win or lose this game together to win the game you have to beat the big bad guy either the ancient the epic tree stump has grown up the dragon the giant the Kraken the Demon Lord or the Colossus each has a number of hit points and a special ability that they have you'll randomly select one and place it next to the board along with some horde cards that go on top of it like that and then each player is going to pick one of these very generically named characters cleric pout and commander Oracle druid barbarian Bard Ranger warrior or sorcerer each has a certain number of hit points so you'll keep track of your hit points like this and a special action that you can take everybody starts in the capital city and the game starts you're going to be making some decks at the beginning of the game when what you're going to do is you're going to turn the top card of the deck over oh no it's an enemy okay so here's a fish enemy and here's a scorpion enemy this will make the basically you're going to move the threat level in both those areas up one so the coast goes up one over here and the desert goes up one here okay next hooray it's the blue player's turn this gives the blue player four actions now the all four player cards are scattered throughout the deck if you're playing with four players if you're playing with less you put in like these team cards where you have action points that you can split between them when it's your turn and action can be moving you can move to an adjacent region most of the places here are adjacent to two regions so capitals next to a desert and runes the deserts next to coasts capital and planes places next to forests and deserts so you can move as an action you can also sucker an area which is basically reduces the threat in that area so you'll want to keep the threat down because threat can be a bad thing you cannot do that to the capital region the capital city have to be careful you can fight the epic foe if the epic foe has shown up in the game you can go to his area and spend an action point to reduce his health by one you can also use a special ability in a region so for example in the forest here and each of these regions has two sides so there's a different thing on each side the forest you can use for two action points you can reduce the threat of level of any outer region by one so if I'm in the forest I can spend two action points and reduce for example the coast down by one you can also use your hero's ability so for example the the commander for two action points I can move a hero to any region if you don't start your turn in the capital city you can reduce your health by one - look at the top two cards of the turn deck here nature's call which is a really really bad phrasing here but you can move to the forest alright so they each have special abilities and that is what you're going to continue to do at the end after you've gone through all these cards you will draw the top card of this deck here which has more of these generic monsters but also has some epic monsters in it or dire enemies I'm sorry and you put a certain number of dire enemies in this deck and you'll add one of these these dire enemies are much more difficult than the rest and when they show up they're going to do more damage and special abilities to you so you're gonna add those to the sec shuffle it and go through the stick again so this deck gets a little bit harder each time once you've gone through that whole pile then the big bad guy shows up and you have to beat him now when these cards are turned over and they increase the threat of a region if you are in that region let's say I'm in the plains and a monster comes it's going to make the plains go up by one I can cancel that by taking a hit point and so players will have hit points here and they can take hit points and the problem that you have is you don't actually kind of die in this game but if you don't have any hit points left you don't have many actions that you can take and so you're basically you're basically useless to the party so you need to get healed or some way back in so you can take hit points and that's not a big deal and that will keep these flerova scrum going up because of the threat level goes all the way up then that area is going to be destroyed and if that if that symbol shows up again then the capital city will move up each time and if the capital city is destroyed you lose the game that's it you fight off the big bad guy and you win have enough areas he story so the capital city gets ripped apart you move really really really dislike this one will start off with the theme it's fantasy hahahaha come on guys come on if you're designing a fantasy game I'm not going to give you a free pass here you got to put some kind of effort into the game don't be barbarian dwarf uh you know paladin I have a sword yeah in this game the only thing was if you beat one of those dire enemies and kill them you then get a special card like an upgraded card like the shield of all more and a lexer of Aaron and the staff of control and one time you can use these cards and do something special with them that's cool and that's a neat theme but other than that the theme turning a card over that shows scorpions and things and it makes a threat level go up in areas and you lose a hit point to cancel that this is like pandemic or some other cooperative game I mean the theme here could be completely wiped out and the game would be pretty much the same game nowhere along the line that I feel like this was some kind of fantasy that the word epic should be crossed off with a magic marker and then stabbed with a knife because it's ridiculous word to put in here there's nothing epic about this at all and there's no fantasy in here at all now the game itself again it's just dull you're going to turn you have a deck card you turn over and you its blues turn so and since you don't know who's coming up when you can't do any sort of planning it's like oh it's your turn okay well you do this now it's your turn and okay I'll do this and I mean I think that idea is kind of cool that you're never sure whose turn is going to be but essentially it turns out to be hey four bad guys come out and do some beatdown on you and there's not a lot you can do to stop them I felt like the decision in this game we're very boring am I going to move and reduce something move and redo something move I will use my special action to heal you please give me some money as a thank you just so boring everything about this game the artwork was okay the enemy artwork was good that bad guys are incredibly hard and by the time you get to them you don't feel like it's an epic battle you feel like it's a pain in the neck and that's the thing these enemies when they showed up was like huh these guys go huh that again it never felt like I was fighting stuff off I felt like I turned a card over I could have called this weed creep and if it could have been about flower gardens and weeds were showing up into different fields and you have to go around with a lawnmower and cut the grass in each area same thing no not giving a passin as I like cooperative games I like fantasy I am NOT even opposed to trying to put it into a small box and calling it epic but that's not in here at all this one is a very bad game did not like it neither did anyone I played it with diced our judgement had inspired and boring thanks so much for watching the diced our videos find more great videos and reviews as well as our top
