This Trick Catches Spring Bass When Its Tough! (Fishing The Extremes)

what's up guys Tim little welcome back to Tactical Bassin today's video got a day out on the lake for you today we're fishing a Highland Reservoir early spring got some good spotted bass in it got some large mouth should be a good one let's [Music] go all right guys so it is late morning got a little bit of wind supposed to be a nice day we got water temps in the uh mid low to mid 60s so we should have fish in that uh spawn pre-spawn phase so we'll see again it's a spotted bass fishery primarily have caught some nice large mouth here in the past but I haven't been here in uh I haven't been here this year so going to start with the big baits try and get a big bite a good you know a good one on a big bait I got the uh the 6in mag d I got the Glide bait I got a weedless HUD so going to chase after a big bite either big spot or a nice large mouth and then we have if we have to we'll have to adjust and go some smaller stuff some finesse stuff but uh should be a good one beautiful day here we go no no no no no come here come here number one up cruising super shallow flip this little creature bait out there and you got it too thanks bud just Ultra finesse so far seen a lot of fish cruising up Shallow that's why I got this little creature bait my hand um I can lead them and do a couple twitches and hopefully get them to eat but uh I actually came up shall cuz I got my my karashi hung up and uh broke off in the in the stuff and saw that fish up here cruising flipped that little bait to him swam over and just smoked it but uh started off with some wind blown points throwing the the magdraft nothing now I'm uh basically fishing the backs of these Pockets these secondary points going out uh looks I haven't haven't seen any empty beds or anything like that but um haven't seen any beds either so uh I don't know I don't know if these fish are pre-spawn they should be spawn post spawn I don't know we're going to figure it out [Applause] decent one thanks dude beautiful fish thanks bud just flipping around this free rig again just fishing around this uh it's a really kind of a steeper Bank just flipping around these little laydowns and uh overhangs and uh c a nice one keep doing this for a little bit longer see if we can flip a big one and then uh it will go out a little bit deeper so kind of running that little bit deeper bank and then all this stuff out here there's lay downs there's stumps I'm basically flipping and pitching to um every piece of visible cover that I can see I can't see bottom but uh fish should be holding on that stuff so this time of the year if you can see visible cover cast to it a nice one on the wacky rig got a BFS reel come here here dude thanks dude just switched it up and went with the old old wacky rig again just um switch it up with the old weighted wacky rig I can cast it farther I can fish it faster on these uh submerged stumps but um went with that little weighted head with the with the senko and that did the trick keep moving through this little stump field and make our way out to a little bit deeper water all right guys sit here and tie tie on free rig I broke it off but um I want to kind of share with what's going on in my mind I'm seeing lots of Cruisers up Shallow um some decent ones no Giants no big ones uh you know like 2 and a half 3 Pounders and they're all Largemouth I haven't seen any spots so it's like this is the decision-making part right do you stay shallow and Target Target the large mouth and hope to to catch a kicker or do you go a little bit deeper maybe find some cooler water try and find the spotted bass schooled up but um so far the ticket has been flipping or pitching the free rig or that little Little Beaver um that little TRD bugs Little Beaver to cruising fish get out of your fly but water's warm air temp's warm fish are active I'd really like to be throwing the bigger baits so um I'm going to what I'm going to do I'm going to fish this Bay out again this is a big Bay got some points coming into it some secondary points maybe fish this way out and then maybe switch gears and throw some bigger baits um a little bit around deeper water around you know laydowns that sort of thing but uh so far this guy right here flipping and pitching the free rig around the Seno and that uh the beaver has been catching them but uh again three decent large mouth and uh I did have one one bite on the Glide probably going to cut that out that was about an hour and a half ago just on open water out here um just a doop nothing there probably a small spoted bass but uh all right let's keep going got a nice one on the free rig come here jumping jumping jumping come here nice one thanks dude look at that free rig in there something about that green pumpkin blue flake this time of the year man where did you get this thing is this in your [Music] tongue there we go that adrenaline craw 3.5 gets it done nice one thanks bud so again just basically fan cting out here I'm on a on a flat Shoreline is about I don't know 30 yards away or something and uh like a little bit of a grass line fire that thing up there and just working it super slow every once in a while I see the bait jump out so you can tell there's fish up there cruising I don't want to get up there and spook them but um just working it extremely slow and then doop that fish inhaled it pretty cool I just let him he came over and twitch twitch twitch came over lots of Cruisers up here come on come on man no come here another free rig bass nope thanks dude right along this Edge right where it pops up you can see the fish kind of cruising around every once in a while I'll Fan cast that's how I got that big one fancast and um just work it really slow you these fish are super finicky when they're up Shallow when they first start coming up so I have all of my electronics turned off I have my Troll Motor turned down low I'm using my um Raptors in the back to just anchor the boat so you can see there's a big shade line up here I don't know if you can see that or not big shade line and I can see Fish cruising in and out of it and uh threw up there to the edge of that shade line and saw that fish come out nose down on it shake shake nose down on it shake shake pretty cool it's just a really again it's that smaller EXO and that's that 3.5 adrenaline craw but it's an awesome awesome little finesse bait especially when you're up Shallow and you don't want to throw a big giant bait for absolutely cracked the magdraft got him on the swimmer thanks dude all right guys so pretty uh successful run of deeper water it's a deep water uh wall got a lot of laydowns a lot of trees in it falling into the water so I ended up with three bites and uh caught one so that was my goal was to catch one today on the on the uh the magdraft so want to give a little tip to you guys if you want to fish deeper water I'm going to go ahead and leave this one in there but uh what I was going to tell you is if you want to fish deeper water or you want to be able to fish this magdraft the 6-in magdraft a little bit quicker and still have that really good look at all the teeth marks in here that really good side to side wobble but without blowing out I will take super simple super easy but um I will take a 332 ounce nail weight tungsten nail weight that's uh that one from Swagger that pagota light weight and I will go right in front of the harness right in front of the magnet and I'm going to go in at a 45° angle into the belly I want that that weight to be kind of near the belly to keep that that lower center of gravity to keep that belly down I'll show you guys kind of where I don't know if you guys can even see this these things with these big ridges on them stay in the bait so so well it's why it's one of my favorite uh wacky rigged nail weights but let me open this up so you guys can see that so just right there in the belly again the more of an angle the better I don't want to go straight in 90° cuz that's going to put a lot of weight up at the top I want to go as flat as possible behind the harness behind the magnet and it gives that bait a little bit more weight lower center of gravity you can fish it uh faster and it won't blow out and you can fish it deep very very quickly so like I said that was cool uh my goal was to catch well I tried some top water too but um I've had so far today I've had one bite on the Glide I've had three bites on the swimbait no bites on top water and then finesse but a basically a a wacky rig Seno a little free rig and then a beaver bait so uh we're going to keep running this stuff might go a little bit shallow again and see if we can fish some isolated pieces of cover or structure and see if we can pull some fish out of that finally got one of these guys in the boat now little spot thanks dude hit that Karachi karashi twitch bait back there I had like three spots in a row that were like two plus pounds just just missed it I don't know what the deal is and then the little little guy gets it but um kind of found a pattern fishing these deep Cuts where they're both shaded both sides are shaded and just working this thing I've had seven or eight bites that's the first one I hooked and I've seen several fish follow this thing so they're all spotted bass so it's funny the large maath were out there and the spots are back here in these Cuts pretty interesting everything eats the karashi look how pretty this bluegill is super pretty thanks dude come here here missed two on that cast little guy thanks bud little bit nicer one still need your mama thanks dude that was on the pause I looked away smoked it but this is basically just a subsurface walking bait just a twitch bait you know I've thrown the top water a lot today the popper the shower blows and nothing just seems like those fish don't want to come up but they will still eat this just below the surface still running that same pattern just finding the shaded walls and you can see all this all these laydowns I mean there's fish in all this stuff it's really hard to fish with like a a wacky rig or something like that just takes forever but be able to fish this over the top and uh not have to worry about fishing slow has been really really nice again I choked on the but they just missed it I guess I don't know like uh the bigger bites I've had the better bites I've had I haven't haven't hooked up on but at least we're catching fish found the nursery for sure I'm hoping that when we get in the back we'll find some better ones but I wanted to fish my way in this is a long arm I wanted to fish my way in make sure I wasn't missing anything thanks dude clones fun though especially on this BFS this is that cashing this is that 7 foot light uh BFS Rod I icon series it's a super parabolic rod I mean it bends super parabolic and then have that curado BFS I'm actually throwing six lb braid to six lb fluorocarbon and I can cast this little guy a long ways but it's so much fun catching these things on BFS cuz it feels like you're fighting the eight or nine pounder every time peeling drag got the clicker drag but uh being able to to throw this bait be accurate with it you can see all these laydowns you got to make those real accurate roll casts and then um having this thing play these fish with those super small hooks this is the perfect little combo for that karashi all right guys I'm going to wrap it up here a great day out on the water I lost count of how many fish I caught um but uh the large mouth were definitely the better fish right U had a good limit of large mouth early and then uh it was interesting the the large mouth were or back in the in the cuts and the the spots were back on the bluff walls in the shade uh I didn't get I didn't get a single bite or have a single follow in the sun they were all in the shade so I remember that guys if you're going into a a really narrow Cove fish the fish the side that has shade cuz that's where all those fish were at again that was the uh that was the the karashi I lost track of how many fish I saw Chase that thing and try and eat it um but I I don't know caught maybe 10 or 12 or something on it maybe I don't know but uh through the Glide bait had one bite on this guy right here that's that uh C hitch that's that custom color at Tackle Warehouse I love that color uh just ordered four more of them but um started throwing that Glide got bit early and then nothing and then I switched over to the uh the magdraft and had quite a few uh bites on that I think I had four bites on that caught one but again use that uh use that nail weight trick if you want to fish faster and fish deeper but tried to tried to uh really throw the bigger baits even through the and through the uh weedless HUD 68 is a really cool bait weedless um but no love on that all those large mouth came shallow they were cruising the flats uh I didn't see a single didn't see a single bed really but you could see several fish just cruising back and forth the shallows you'd see bait jump and then you could throw your bait in there and just shake it shake it and then watch and you might see a cruiser come over You' shake it they come in and eat it was really cool um what else man I threw I threw a popper I threw this little guy it's a cool little bait by Shimano little hard swimbait another cool little uh BFS bait I'll link all the stuff down below in the video description guys but uh but uh the big one what did the big one eat the big one eat the free rig big one the free rig caught a couple of them on the free rig again that uh that green pumpkin blue flake seems to be the deal for me the last year or two but um did catch one on the weighted wacky I don't know guys I lost lost track of what we caught early but uh great day out in the water Springtime fishing yes you do have to deal with boat traffic I ran into a few different Coes today that there was several boats in uh several wave Runners and and no water skiers or or wake bers but it was definitely a big I Lake but um had a good time catching them those spots man even though they're little I don't know one pounders some of them pound and a half that one was probably 2 lbs man on the BFS rod and reel it is so much fun if you guys haven't checked that out you guys need to
