This Raided Discord’s Own Servers, Nitro Trials

Discord is experimenting with a new feature called Nitro trials and it caused a raid on discord's own servers that spammed undeletable messages but first what is this new Nitro trials feature well it currently is an experimental feature where you have the ability to give your friends free Nitro so the way that it works is that if you have Discord Nitro you can go to your friend's DMS and you can send them a little free Nitro trial you can send them two weeks of free Discord Nitro and you can do this three times now of course it's not just that easy in fact you can only share a Nitro trial with someone if they don't have Nitro or if they haven't had Nitro in the past 12 months and that does include those epic games and steel series free Nitro promotions and just like those promotions the person that redeems this two-week free trial does need to enter invalid billing information and after those two weeks they are going to be charged ten dollars a month so make sure to cancel but all this fun little Nitro trial gifting stuff does end on June 15th so if you are lucky enough to have of this feature because once again it's only limited to a certain number of people then feel free to give out all this free Nitro to your friends or whatever and let them experience consumerism at its finest now I'll admit it this article is one of my favorites because the article tells you to make sure the offer is authentic make sure that the person that is giving you this free Nitro actually has Discord Nitro because only Nitro subscribers can share this trial and if that wasn't enough they even go a little bit further telling you that it should look like this and it's not a link it's not a file or a QR code if you want to read a little more in depth I'll have this Linked In the description but basically this free Nitro trial should not lead you outside of the Discord app and it shouldn't download anything and it shouldn't ask you to scan a QR code look at that Discord making sure we're all safe and protected uh you already know what's coming up next these Nitro trials did cause a little bit of Havoc before they were even released because people used it to raid servers now this raid is a pretty serious concern because it bypassed all your permissions and you couldn't even delete the message in this race hit some pretty serious servers it hit the Roblox Discord server devastating server management are aware of bypass messages being sent to permission restricted channels but it gets worse The Hub server it also was rated with a whole bunch of messages disaster baiting and finally the cream of the crop in terms of rating it hit discord's own Discord developer server as you can see this is in the rules Channel and someone is pasting in a whole bunch of poop emojis but it didn't stop at the rules channel in fact it went to a whole bunch of different channels in the Discord developer server it was honestly quite the show to see it was a sh Show that's kind of funny because the image itself is a poop emoji but here's the thing if you were on mobile what would happen is that instead of seeing that little poop emoji you would see this message this user gave you two weeks of nitro open this DM on desktop to start your free trial now this person here that did the rating definitely got terminated by Discord but here's the thing this person is an absolute idiot because they lost the potential of making quite quite a bit of money and I'll tell you about that a little bit later but first we need to understand how did this raid even work and the way that it worked is that there was an open endpoint in discord's API don't click off yet I'll make this make sense but for those of you that don't know when you're doing stuff on Discord you're basically just sending a message to a website and in this case you're sending it to discord's API and you're telling it hey I want to send a message to this no text-to-speech guy now what I can do is I can actually send a message to discord's API so I'm just sending a little message a little bit of code to discord's website I'm telling it to send a message to myself so if I click on send here you will see that I will send a message so instead of me typing in this little text box I can do it with code now in terms of this raid the user that did the raid they basically sent a little message to discord's API the user slash at me slash referral slash eligibility and they sent in some random code basically saying am I eligible to get this referral trial offer ID variable which is just a whole bunch of funky numbers but using these funky numbers once again they send a message to discord's API now when we send a message to user slash at me slash referrals we need to put in that trial offer ID probably a couple other things and finally a channel ID which is basically what is the ID of the channel we want to send this free trial message to now if you don't know if you have Discord developer mode enabled you can right click on any channel and you can copy the ID of the channel so what this silly goose did is they just entered in the channel ID of whatever server they wanted to spam and in this case it was the Discord developers server The Hub server and the Roblox server and maybe a couple more that I haven't heard about but they send all these try trial messages to these servers and of course the trials weren't working at the time and that's how it shows up as a poop emoji now just keep in mind that these messages you you delete them this is someone actually from the uh The Hub Discord server and they were trying to delete these messages and they couldn't and this is very scary but here's the thing thankfully these messages were extremely harmless and just really annoying spam imagine if you could send your own custom message things could have been very bad someone could be spamming Gore or advertising a whole bunch of crap so thankfully at the end of the day this is just one of discord's funny little mess-ups a little bit of a shock to all the people that actually had their Discord servers rated by this but thankfully no damage and eventually these messages did get fixed where you could delete them and Discord made it so that you can't go into their little API mess around and spam a whole bunch of Discord servers a happy little ending except one thing the person that did this they got a very unhappy ending of course their account got terminated but they also missed out on a massive massive bug Bounty now if you don't know if you find a big bug on Discord that's a big vulnerability you can report it to Discord and get money they have a whole bunch of things that you need to read before you even submit a report so if you are interested this will be linked in the description I'm not going to read this all because if it bores me then it'll probably make you fall asleep but if you read through all this stuff and you submit an actual bug report to Discord you can get a fair chunk of money and I talked to a couple sources and used a little bit of my brain and this person that did this raid here they probably missed out on fifteen hundred dollars from discord's wallet so at the end of the day what was funnier this person rating the server or this person missing out on fifteen hundred dollars from Discord I know which one I'm picking anyways that's all cutie patootie I might take a gander at this Discord server for some odd reason I could never imagine why I would want to look at it anyways I'm probably going to get demonetized from that bye bye sweetheart I love you oh my
