This ONE Thing Gives Us The Strength To Build Our Home Off Grid

we're in trouble not all youtubers are super clean and organized i'll tell you that much well maybe i should just speak for ourselves our arsenal has grown y'all jim what the heck is going on with your eyes well we're gonna get to build course number 13. give me your course number 13 roar i feel like it's my job to hype everything up and get the motivation going get the blood pumping get the heart racing get the mind moving happy wife happy life you know what i mean how's it going everyone you're watching the green dream project now if you're new here my wife and i are trying to build a sustainable life and sustainable home off-grid here in the arizona desert you might be wondering why i'm kneeling here in front of a mess of tarps well this is where we've been storing the bags that we've been using for our earth bag build you know it does all right it's under here under our roof uh kind of protects a little bit from the rain we have it covered in tarps protects it from the uv light it's still you know honestly it's still kind of out in the open uh rodents could get to it the tarps could fly off light could still get to it so i decided you know what i'm just gonna move this into our shipping container we got some room in there now and i think it'll be much more protected from light and water and everything like that rodents so i'm just going to get it in there it'll clean up the front area here a little bit once i get these bags in there and secured we got wood sitting out here wood that i bought for various projects along the build and that's kind of exposed too so time to move these bags in there and if i have room i'm going to throw that wood in there i think that'd be a great place to store the wood [Music] we got basically two different size bags here we got smaller bags and we got the larger bags that we've been using for our house and it might be kind of difficult to differentiate the two uh on camera here that's basically how it works down and between those smaller and larger sizes there's a bunch of various sizes between that that's one aspect that makes this a little bit challenging with the bags we got but the price was right and we're reusing some of these misprinted bags so it's worth it well right now we're in the thick of using these larger ones for the house build so these smaller ones are not going to be used quite yet we'll use them eventually for something i guarantee you that but i think i'm going to move these smaller ones in there and put the larger ones on top i could have carried these all by hand but i got a cart why not make it a little easier right that's a lot of bags so that right there was one full bundle of big bags should be a thousand in there now the straps were cut but that's okay because it made it a little easier to move them now i'm gonna go get the rest of the big bags these are the ones we've cut open and we're using for the house so this will be the rest of those so the second stack obviously you could see is a little lighter because we've been using it for the house build but i think there's going to be plenty to finish the whole house with these bags if we wanted to cool thing is after moving those bags in i still got room for some of this lumber that i bought so i'm going to put all my new lumber in here and that'll kind of clean up that area a bit and once i get that new lumber moved that i can get those pellets out of there some of the scrap wood and uh this area under the awning started to get kind of a collection of stuff going i think i can clean that up make it real nice be like an actual youtuber not all youtubers are super clean and organized i'll tell you that much well maybe i should just speak for ourselves fantastic everything fits i think the shipping container was a good investment i think it was about four thousand dollars total to buy it and deliver it i think this is gonna be great for now for storage and who knows down the road maybe a shop or something now that i got all my fresh wood in there i could just start clearing up some of the pallets and scrap wood around there and this front area might start looking real nice now let me tell you a little known fact maybe you've guessed already but jessica she kind of likes things neat and tidy i think she's going to be really happy with how this looks happy wife happy life you know what i mean [Music] what's up what's up what's up [Music] someone got pulled over so yeah we are making a trip into bisbee today i put the word out that we were looking for more metal cans we're gonna need more metal cans as we start building up on our dome and we got an offer someone has like a dozen or so cans that they've been collecting that they don't want to throw away and we said you know we'll take it so i'm making a trip now to pick those cans up for us those are invaluable tools for sure [Music] hey you settle down [Music] our arsenal has grown y'all so we already had 14 cans that we could utilize for the build but now with our pickup from yesterday that's 15 extra cans 29 cans that should be enough to fill even one of these large bags which is fantastic so when i prep dirt i'm going to fill the wheelbarrow i'm going to fill the cart i'm gonna fill all these cans that's at least three bags worth of dirt right there and with these tables that we have set up that should allow us to kind of keep working so i think this will work out real well let's see what happens i'm gonna go prep dirt jessica should be out here in a bit and then we're going to get to build course number 13. he's ready for lunch well i better watch out yeah exactly exactly guess what i found while digging in the dirt getting dirt ready grub hub for the chickens ready ready there you go [Music] we got a winner did you see what's going on in the garden i think there's little parsleys popping up it's the comfrey that's growing back in and what's that tribes and look at the grapevine grapevine's coming back spring's in the air spring or summer it's getting kind of hot right from winter to uh it's right in the summer all right y'all you might be wondering jim what the heck is going on with your eyes i made a little investment in some dewalt goggles i thought man with these high winds and the dust blowing around good eye protection is definitely important now i just want to say i'm not funded here by dewalt they're not sponsoring this video but so far i really like these the tint on these is just perfect nice and plus i look real cool don't i looking funky i'm looking funky yee so them dirty for this working around all this barbed wire you would i'm not sure if i would have that much flesh exposed that's a pro tip don't lay on the bar boy see how about all this info we give you killing it i'd say we're about halfway down with course number 13. early in the morning we start prepping dirt and that way we can get right back at it we're getting close [Music] good morning how you feeling today you ready to take on the world [Music] she's ready to finish up course number 13. that's for sure [Music] all right well i want to keep digging i'm gonna keep shoveling why can't this lens decide when things are in focus or not hey this thing looks in focus but you know what it could have improved maybe i'll just go way out of focus and then way back into focus [Music] this lens work like we do non-stop [Music] the tables now how did you feel about the tables that was new the platforms yeah the platforms tables scaffolding i think that that was a nice addition so we couldn't put a whole lot of weight on it yet because it really it didn't have too much anchoring it down yet but we got to use it a little bit now i think the one thing that we kind of ran into with this is that it was not sufficient like as soon as you passed it up with the bags you can you like you couldn't go forward you can only go back i suppose i could climb over the untamped bags but it's a little uh walking on the issy walking on the untapped bags is a little hazardous i find that even when tamping like i gotta tamp a bag first then i can step on that tamped bag and it's solid and you can go around not that it's super easy walking over the tamp bags with the barbed wire in it okay tamp bags without barbed wire is super nice to walk on flat solid as a rock once you start adding barbed wire yeah it becomes a little bit of a challenge and then once you start adding squishy bags on top of it then it's even bigger challenge we just had an amazing lunch many thanks to jess for getting things ready for that i feel a lot stronger i feel like i'm ready to go jess is already getting things prepped she's already here she's such a go-getter she thinks i look ridiculous in these things you guys what do you guys think does this look ridiculous i think i look cool desert cool this is desert style right here all right we got a bottle what about a quarter of this left to do yep she's tired we ideas and i kind of get things started maybe like oh hey what if we do this or that what if we move off grid and build a house out of dirt and then you're like okay yeah let's do it and then when it comes down to actually doing it then you encourage me and like hey let's get this done today and then like uh i guess so am i the task master here i think oh no that we're in trouble then we're in trouble you're the one that you get out early in the morning you start working and you're still out like after dark a lot of times getting work done so i mean your energy kind of keeps me going oh that's nice your energy keeps me going okay whoa it's like a new area over here [Music] wow i just uh i didn't realize how much material was collecting up over here with uh between all that wood and cinder blocks and pallets and everything like that i got everything moved organized looking really good under here we're gonna reclaim this area and just kind of clear out some of the the clutter things that we're not using anymore and then of course i gotta still take care of the gutter material but that'll be for a different day jess what do you think i like it feels like you can breathe a about that oh yeah it's the thing that happened it's a thing that happened course 13 is done now i think going up from here it's going to be exciting i think the next course will finish off the hallway we still have quite a few fan bags that we got to make in order to go over these forms but we are getting close like another few feet and we might be done with fan bags and then beyond like
